Both the recent spike in inflation and the current decline in US jobs are, in a very significant way, the fault of the Federal Reserve.
The Fed’s policies since 2021 reveal a nightmare “pendulum” effect: first, easy money and historic liquidity expansion fueled runaway inflation; then, rapid rate hikes hurt businesses and families as well as job creation, especially for small and medium-sized businesses and families.
In 2021, the largest monetary expansion in decades caused an inflationary burst that was particularly negative for wage earners and small businesses. A massive rate hike exacerbated this negative impact.
The August jobs report exposes the Fed’s failure to balance its mandate. The Federal Reserve did not seem to read their own beige book that warned of a widespread job market weakness for months.
The Federal Reserve’s Beige Book first alerted of a weak job market in April 2025 and continued to highlight the labor market challenges in May and June. The April Beige Book signalled flat economic activity and slow labor demand and highlighted weakness for new entrants such as graduates, with some regions noting slight declines in employment and business activity. However, despite the evident negative impact of high rates, the Fed decided to keep interest rates unchanged even when inflationary pressures proved to be nonexistent. Between April and July, CPI inflation and core CPI monthly figures showed no inflationary pressures from tariffs.

PARIS (Reuters) - Pig heads appeared outside at least nine mosques in and around Paris on Tuesday, authorities said, with French President Emmanuel Macron's name scrawled on five of them.
Authorities did not say who could be behind the attacks but pledged support for France's Muslim population at a time of rising anti-Islamic sentiment. France has Europe's largest population of Muslims, over 6 million, for whom pigs are considered impure.
"I want our Muslim compatriots to be able to practice their faith in peace," Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau told reporters. "I understand they feel hurt."
Retailleau said he could not rule out foreign interference to unsettle France as it faces a fiscal and political crisis.

The US president’s son has accused social media activists of hypocrisy
Donald Trump Jr. has criticized social media users who display the Ukrainian flag in their online profiles but have remained silent about the recent killing of a young Ukrainian woman in North Carolina.
Irina Zarutskaya, who fled Ukraine after the escalation of the conflict in 2022, was fatally stabbed on August 22 while riding a Charlotte light rail train. Surveillance footage released by the authorities over the weekend shows her being ambushed and brutally attacked from behind.
“Strangely, all the clowns with Ukraine flags in their bio are also all silent on this one,”Trump Jr. wrote on X on Monday.
His post came in response to conservative podcast host Liz Wheeler, who shared a screenshot of a New York Times search for the victim’s name. The search showed no results related to the 23-year-old’s murder, in contrast with thousands of articles the outlet published on George Floyd, whose 2020 death in police custody triggered nationwide unrest.
President Donald Trump also addressed the killing in a statement on Truth Social, calling the video “horrific” and blaming Democratic leaders for enabling repeat offenders to remain on the streets through policies such as cashless bail.
“Now her blood is on the hands of the Democrats who refuse to put bad people in jail,”he wrote, also questioning why the mainstream media has been “silent” on the case.
Both Trump and his son have framed the incident as an example of selective outrage and double standardsin US politics and media coverage, particularly in cases involving victims who do not fit prevailing political narratives.
Police arrested Decarlos Brown, 34, a man with a long criminal history, and charged him with first-degree murder. He is being held at the Mecklenburg County Detention Center without bond, pending further psychiatric evaluation.

A decomposing body has been found dumped in a Tesla reportedly registered to popular New York-born singer D4vd — several days after it was abandoned at a Los Angeles tow yard.
Police made the grim discovery at the impound lot in Hollywood on Monday afternoon after someone reported a foul odor coming from the electric vehicle.
The 2023 Tesla is registered to David Anthony Burke, the 20-year-old Queens-born artist known as D4vd, ABC7 reported.
The identity of the victim wasn’t immediately known.

Nepalese Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli and three ministers have resignedafter deadly protests over alleged government corruption left multiple people dead in the capital, Kathmandu.
The demonstrations, led mainly by people in their late teens and early 20s, erupted on Mondayafter authorities banned several major social media platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, and X. The protests turned violent, with 22 confirmed dead in Kathmandu and about 500 injured, including more than 100 police officers.
While the government revoked the ban on Tuesday, the violence continued. Protesters reportedly stormed the Nepalese parliament and set it on fire, and attacked the Nepali Congress office as well as the homes of several senior politicians.

What's that rising up from the Earth? When circling the Earth on the International Space Station early in July, astronaut Nicole Ayers saw an unusual type of lightning rising up from the Earth: a gigantic jet. The powerful jet appears near the center of the featured image in red, white, and blue. Giant jet lightning has only been known about for the past 25 years. The atmospheric jets are associated with thunderstorms and extend upwards towards Earth's ionosphere. The lower part of the frame shows the Earth at night, with Earth's thin atmosphere tinted green from airglow. City lights are visible, sometimes resolved, but usually creating diffuse white glows in intervening clouds. The top of the frame reveals distant stars in the dark night sky. The nature of gigantic jets and their possible association with other types of Transient Luminous Events (TLEs) such as blue jets and red sprites remain active topics of research.
