Support for causes like USAID or Ukraine is almost entirely performative—protests, hashtags, flags in bios. The engagement is visible but superficial. We don't see anyone signing up to join the Ukraine foreign legion.

OTOH, the pro-Palestinian faction has demonstrably taken high-risk and extreme actions to advance its goals. That willingness to escalate beyond words or peaceful protest is the most important distinction for me.

The Presidency: FDR's USS Potomac. Franklin Roosevelt used the yacht USS Potomac throughout his presidency, including to arrange a clandestine meeting with British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. After FDR's 1945 death, the Potomac had a colorful history (including as a front for drug smugglers) until it fell into disrepair. It was later salvaged and is now a National Historic Landmark docked in Oakland, California, where it is open to the public. Walter Abernathy, Port of Oakland retired CEO, recounted the storied yacht's history.

Reel America: Hydrogen Bomb Test "Operation Ivy" - 1952. On November 1, 1952 the U.S. conducted its first test of a hydrogen bomb at Eniwetok, an atoll in the Pacific Ocean. The 10.4 megaton explosion generated a three-mile-wide fireball. It also left a mile-wide crater with a depth of 175 feet. This is a 1952 film produced by the Defense Department and the Atomic Energy Commission titled, "Operation Ivy."

The Presidency: FDR's USS Potomac. Franklin Roosevelt used the yacht USS Potomac throughout his presidency, including to arrange a clandestine meeting with British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. After FDR's 1945 death, the Potomac had a colorful history (including as a front for drug smugglers) until it fell into disrepair. It was later salvaged and is now a National Historic Landmark docked in Oakland, California, where it is open to the public. Walter Abernathy, Port of Oakland retired CEO, recounted the storied yacht's history.

The Radio and Television Correspondents Association gathered for their annual dinner. Author, Actor and Comedian Larry Wilmore provided the entertainment for the evening. Jonathan Karl was awarded the Joan S. Barone Award for Excellence in Washington-based National Affairs/Public Policy Broadcasting. Richard Engel was awarded the David Bloom Award for Excellence in Enterprise Reporting. The 67th annual dinner was the first to be called the Congressional Correspondents' Dinner.

Russian and 2016 Elections, Part 1

The Senate Intelligence Committee heard testimony from witnesses on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election and its capabilities to influence elections in other Western democracies. Clinton Watts, a former FBI special agent with the Joint Terrorism Task Force, detailed how he was hacked by Russia and how Russia was able to interfere in the 2016 elections through various online mechanisms. Other experts who testified cited other instances of Russian interference in democratic elections.

President Trump and members of the White House Coronavirus Task Force hold a briefing on the federal government's response to the pandemic. The president announced from the Rose Garden that the U.S. had tested over 1 million people for the coronavirus and later unveiled a new testing kit that is supposed to give results within five minutes. The president also answered a wide range of questions on supplies for health care workers, his conversations with governors, partnerships with private sector companies, and whether there was a chance the disease could return in the fall.

Reel America: Hydrogen Bomb Test "Operation Ivy" - 1952. On November 1, 1952 the U.S. conducted its first test of a hydrogen bomb at Eniwetok, an atoll in the Pacific Ocean. The 10.4 megaton explosion generated a three-mile-wide fireball. It also left a mile-wide crater with a depth of 175 feet. This is a 1952 film produced by the Defense Department and the Atomic Energy Commission titled, "Operation Ivy."

The Presidency: FDR's USS Potomac. Franklin Roosevelt used the yacht USS Potomac throughout his presidency, including to arrange a clandestine meeting with British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. After FDR's 1945 death, the Potomac had a colorful history (including as a front for drug smugglers) until it fell into disrepair. It was later salvaged and is now a National Historic Landmark docked in Oakland, California, where it is open to the public. Walter Abernathy, Port of Oakland retired CEO, recounted the storied yacht's history.
