Federal officials have charged a Chicago woman with laundering large volumes of suspected narcotics proceeds after a months-long investigation linked her to cash exchanges tied to Mexican drug cartels and Chinese cryptocurrency networks, according to a recently unsealed federal complaint.

Homeland Security Investigations arrested Xiao Mei of Canaryville on allegations that she coordinated a series of large cash exchanges in Chinatown and River North between February and July 2024. Prosecutors said Mei, described as a Chicago-based broker for a Chinese money-laundering network, regularly used WeChat to arrange pickups of bulk U.S. currency from associates of drug traffickers and transferred equivalent sums to China through cryptocurrency and “mirror transactions.”

Investigators said Mei’s alleged activity fits into a broader system used by Mexico-based money laundering and drug trafficking organizations, or MLDTOs, to conceal drug proceeds.

In general, these groups purchase South American cocaine that is shipped through Mexico and smuggled into the United States, the feds said. They also grow, cultivate, cook, and process heroin, methamphetamine, and marijuana in Mexico, then move the drugs north for resale. The sale of these controlled substances generates massive cash profits that the cartels must move out of the United States and back into their own networks.

According to the federal complaint, a law enforcement source told investigators that Mei contacted them almost daily to handle large cash transactions, often expressing reluctance to meet “foreigners” alone. According to federal agents, Mei used the term “foreigner” to refer to anyone who was not Chinese.

In one exchange, the complaint says, Mei accepted a black bag containing about $40,000 from two people in a white vehicle, then delivered the cash later that night to an associate near East Erie Street and North Wabash Avenue in River North. That associate allegedly transferred the equivalent amount to a Chinese bank account at Mei’s direction.

Subsequent monitored transactions detailed in the affidavit include a March 5 transfer of $50,000, an April 5 pickup of $100,000, and additional deliveries of $36,000 and $51,500 in May. In each case, agents say, Mei used WeChat to coordinate meetings in and around Chinatown, provide cryptocurrency wallet codes, and direct conversions into Chinese currency or digital assets such as Tether. Investigators said multiple cash deliveries tested positive for narcotic residue during K-9 inspections.

The investigation culminated on July 15, 2024, when law enforcement stopped Mei’s white Porsche after she allegedly planned another $80,000 transfer. Officers found cash inside a white fanny pack, along with two cell phones, and a K-9 unit again alerted to drug odors, the complaint said. Mei declined to make any statements to investigators following her detention.

According to the affidavit, an individual identified as “B,” who was seen handing Mei cash in February 2024, later admitted to acting as a courier for a Mexican “boss” and said they were paid $750 per delivery to move drug proceeds between Latin and Chinese intermediaries. The cooperating witness in the case was compensated for assisting law enforcement and had no criminal history, the document noted.

Prosecutors charged Mei with money laundering and operating an unlicensed money-transmitting business.

Driven by geopolitical tensions, economic uncertainty and sustained central bank buying, the price of gold reached record levels, gaining nearly 60 percent this year to pass the $,4,000-per-ounce mark this month (closing price average from October 1st to 27th) before falling back to find support around $4000.

The level of demand for gold is now prompting questions about whether reserves of the commodity are being exhausted and if humanity has reached "peak gold".

Indeed, some analysts believe that global mining production has already reached or is close to its peak, having stagnated between 3,000 and 3,300 metric tons annually over the last decade.

While new gold deposits are still being discovered, as recently reported by CNBC in the Hunan province of China (Wangu gold field), large reserves are gradually becoming scarce, with the majority of production still happening in older mines that have been in use for decades.

So which mines are producing the most gold every year?

As Statista's Tristan Gaudiat shows below, using data from company reports published by the website Mining.com, gold mines in Nevada produced 2.70 million ounces (76.5 metric tons) of the precious metal in 2024, which is a similar output to the estimated production of the Muruntau gold deposit (2.68 million ounces that year), which has been exploited since the late 1960s in Uzbekistan.

It's transient, meaning if I try again in a few hours it will probably work, but who has time for delays?

Don't worry, I always "archive offline," like Q told us to do.

But every time I save stuff to an external hard drive, I also try to archive it on Archive Today and on The Internet Archive, and then I save those links so that there is a "paper trail," of sorts, to prove that the stuff I saved offline had originally been posted online.

That way, of course, when the U.S. Military rips through the documentation we are putting together, it'll be easy to see that we did not fabricate anything, i.e., that it was all posted by the enemy, at one time.

So if anyone has any advice on why Archive Today does this, from time to time, and how to fix it, I'd be most appreciative.

Just to clarify, my "archive offline" operation is the part where I save everything on External Hard Drives kept in a safe, guarded by dogs, cameras, bullets (if necessary, God forbid), and more.

The attached photo shows the two external hard drives that happen to be connected right now. There are more, locked up, and the contents have all been backed up online, and shared with trusted individuals around the world.

So I just wanted to clarify that when I save things to "Archive Today" and then to "The Internet Archive (The Wayback Machine)" those online, those "online archives" are done in addition to the saving of things on my external hard drives and sharing with people around the world, just in case.

The mother of a man detained by federal agents helped ensure a peaceful arrest by escorting her son into Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody.

Joaquin Viamonte Salas, a Cuban national with a 2024 final removal order, has a criminal history that includes convictions for sexual assault, assault, and larceny.

Illinois Bars ICE Arrests in State Courthouses and Safe Zones

Illinois has now joined California and Connecticut in barring federal immigration agents from conducting “civil arrests” of illegal aliens in or around state courthouses. The sanctuary law appears largely performative since it also appears unconstitutional. It is difficult to see how a state can bar the exercise of federal jurisdiction, at least after the Civil War.

Gov. JB Pritzker has been ratcheting up the rhetoric against ICE and the Trump Administration for months, including analogies to the Nazis and claims that democracy is dying. The new law, however, crosses the constitutional Rubicon by not only limiting the operation of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) but also establishing a 1,000-foot “buffer zone” outside of buildings.

The law makes courthouses equivalent to churches, where suspects can claim sanctuary not only when they cross the threshold but also within 1000 feet, unless, of course, ICE ignores the law.

Recently, the chief judge in Cook County issued an order with the same prohibition. A few other judges in other states have issued similar orders.

The authority for the orders is highly dubious.

The federal government can cite laws mandating the arrest of certain individuals for immigration violations. See, e.g., 8 U.S.C. § 1226(c) (mandatory detention of certain aliens who are removable due to criminal convictions or terrorist activities); id. § 1231(a) ( detention and removal of aliens with final orders of removal).

The most immediate problem for Illinois is the Supremacy Clause of the United States Constitution: “This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof[] . . . shall be the supreme Law of the Land[] . . . any Thing in the Constitution or Laws of any State to the Contrary notwithstanding.” U.S. Const. art. VI, cl. 2.

The second problem is the Supreme Court, which has repeatedly rejected such state authority to dictate federal enforcement or policies. See, e.g., Harisiades v. Shaughnessy, 342 U.S. 580, 588–89 (1952) (the United States has the “exclusive[]” control over “any policy toward aliens”); see also South Carolina v. Baker, 485 U.S. 505, 523 (1988); Mayo v. United States, 319 U.S. 441, 445 (1943).

Ironically, as I have previously pointed out, these blue states will face an unusual authority cited against them: Barack Obama. It was President Obama who went to the Supreme Court to strike down state laws that interfered with federal immigration enforcement (even in assisting that enforcement). In Arizona v. United States, 567 U.S. 387, 394 (2012), he largely prevailed and the Supreme Court affirmed that “[t]he Government of the United States has broad, undoubted power over the subject of immigration and the status of aliens.”

This recognized authority goes back to the Nineteenth Century. The Court has ruled that “Congress [has] the right, as it may see fit, to expel aliens of a particular class, or to permit them to remain,” and “has undoubtedly the right . . . to take all proper means to carry out the system which it provides.” Fong Yue Ting v. United States, 149 U.S. 698, 714 (1893).

The law also creates the ability to sue federal authorities for false imprisonment under state law.

Keep in mind that the law creates a 1,000-foot circle around any state court, creating safe zones for illegal immigrants.
