Victoria health chief Brett Sutton resigns after leading state Covid response

The man who implemented Victoria’s controversial Covid lockdowns has resigned after four years in the top job.

The man behind Victoria’s controversial Covid response which saw much of the state shuttered for months has resigned.

Chief health officer Brett Sutton announced he would be stepping down as the state’s health czar after more than three years in the top role.

Mr Sutton joined the Health Department in 2011, before leading the state’s response to the Covid pandemic from late-2019.

Victoria was subjected to some of the largest Covid waves throughout the pandemic, with six lockdown measures being implemented.

While widely seen as being instrumental in curbing Covid cases, tight lockdown laws drew criticism throughout Mr Sutton’s tenure.

Victorian Premier Dan Andrews defended the state’s response late-last year, stating the pandemic presented “difficult decisions” for leaders.

“These decisions were not made lightly, and they were the subject of debate and discussion and very careful consideration,” Mr Andrews said.

Mr Andrews’ comments followed the release last year of 97-page independent review led by former top public servant Peter Shergold.

The report urged governments at all levels – state and federal - to learn from the past three years.

In a statement, Victoria’s Health Department said Mr Sutton would be leaving government for a role with the country’s chief science body.

“Professor Sutton is an invaluable leader in the field of public health and will be continuing this great work in his new role at CSIRO, Australia’s national science agency, as Director of Health and Biosecurity,” a spokesperson said.

“He has helped to develop a strong and responsive public health team, providing critical health information and advice on a wide variety of issues and emergencies over the years.

“This experience will no doubt be instrumental in Professor Sutton’s new role at CSIRO where he will remain engaged in health and wellbeing at a national and regional level.”

Health officials were still finalising the details of Mr Sutton’s transition, including any acting arrangements.

American oligarch of Hungarian origin George Soros believes Ukraine will win the war, and it will be a “positive shock” for global relations. The billionaire made the predictions in a new column in Project Syndicate, which is partly funded by his own Open Society Foundations.

In the column, Soros borrows a term from U.S. economic historian Adam Tooze, writing of a “polycrisis” in the world and pointing to the meteoric rise of artificial intelligence, climate change and the war in Ukraine.

Regarding Ukraine, the controversial billionaire states that “the actual outcome (of the Ukraine war) is much better than could have been expected. The Ukrainian army put up heroic resistance and, with strong support from the U.S. and Europe, turned things around. The Russian army proved to be a paper tiger, badly led and thoroughly corrupt.”

NASA Warns of ‘Internet Apocalypse’ That Leaves People Offline for Months

A groundbreaking mission by NASA’s Parker Solar Probe (PSP) has successfully ventured through solar wind for the first time aiming to prevent people on earth being unable to get on the internet.

Scientists have issued warnings about the potential impact of a solar storm, commonly referred to as an “internet apocalypse,” which could strike within the next decade.

The spacecraft, which was launched five years ago, went on a remarkable journey which took it close to the sun’s surface, where solar wind is generated.

Solar wind consists of a continuous stream of charged particles emanating from the sun’s outermost atmosphere, known as the corona.

Despite the extreme conditions of intense heat and radiation, the Parker Solar Probe persevered to gather crucial insights into the workings of the sun.

Professor Stuart Bale, the lead author of the study and affiliated with California University in the United States, explained the significance of understanding solar wind.

He said: “Winds carry lots of information from the sun to Earth. So understanding the mechanism behind the sun’s wind is important for practical reasons on Earth.

“That’s going to affect our ability to understand how the sun releases energy and drives geomagnetic storms – which are a threat to our communication networks.”

Such an event could leave people without internet access for months or even years, rendering satellites and power lines useless.

The Parker Solar Probe, with its advanced instrumentation, detected solar wind with unparalleled detail, uncovering crucial information that is lost as the wind exits the corona in the form of photons and electrons.

The team of U.S. researchers likened the experience to “seeing jets of water emanating from a showerhead through the blast of water hitting you in the face.”

These findings helped identify a phenomenon known as “supergranulation flows” within coronal holes, where magnetic fields emerge.

The team suggests that these regions serve as the origin points for the high-speed solar wind.

Typically found at the sun’s poles during quiet periods, the holes do not directly impact Earth.

Ukraine has taken ‘significant’ losses this week – US

Kiev’s long-promised counteroffensive has met “stiff resistance,” senior American officials have told CNN

TheUkrainian military has suffered “significant” casualties in its faltering attempt to mount a counteroffensiveagainst Russian forces, US officials told CNN on Thursday. While Kiev has kept quiet about its losses, Moscow estimates that the offensive has already cost Ukraine almost 5,000 lives.

Ukrainian troops hoping to break through Russia’s defensive lines have met “greater than expected resistance from Russian forces,” the American network reported, citing anonymous “senior US officials.”

CNN’s sources described how Russian forces used anti-tank missiles and mortars to put up “stiff resistance” and inflicted “significant”casualties, as theUkrainians struggledto get their Western-provided vehicles through densely-laid minefields.

After months of delays and mixed messages from Kiev, Ukraine’s counteroffensive began on Sunday with an attack by six mechanized and two tank battalions along five sections of the frontline near Donetsk, and in other regions to the north and south. Further attacks followed, and although pro-Ukrainian sources described these thrusts as “probing” attacks, it was clear by the beginning of this week that the counteroffensive had begun in earnest.

The fiercest fighting took place on Wednesday night along the frontline near Zaporozhye, where the Russian military has spent severalmonths constructing multiple lines of minefields, trenches, gun emplacements, and anti-tank obstacles. The Ukrainian 47th mechanized brigade attacked with a total strength of up to 1,500 troops and 150 armored vehicles, but Russian troops – backed by artillery and air support – repelled the assault, Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said on Thursday.

Key to Russia’s defense has been its suppression of Ukraine’s air defense systems, allowing its fighter jets and attack helicopters to operate with impunity over the frontline.

The minister claimed that during a two-hour battle, the enemy lost 30 tanks, 11 armored personnel carriers and up to 350 troops. According to Shoigu’s daily updates, Ukraine has lost around 4,995 soldiers and almost 100 tanks since Sunday.

Despite the apparently colossal losses, US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told CNN earlier this week that Washington believed “that the Ukrainians will meet with success in this counteroffensive.” However, General Mark Milley, the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, urged caution, telling the network on Monday that it was “too early to tell what outcomes are going to happen.”

“Everyone knows perfectly well that any counteroffensive in the world without control in the skies is very dangerous,” Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said in a Wall Street Journal interview on Saturday, adding that “a large number of soldiers will die” during the operation.

Satellite Imagery from College of DuPage Meteorology Department Shows Over a Dozen Fires in Quebec Start Up at Almost the Exact Same Time

The northeastern United States was engulfed yesterday with a massive blanket of smoke from wildfires burning in Quebec since Tuesday. New York City quickly all but disappeared behind the orangish haze. Yesterday, The Gateway Pundit shared a story containing a video of the George Washington Bridge that was tweeted by Marjorie Taylor Greene, as well as a time lapse of the smoke rolling into the Big Apple.

The fires reportedly originated in Quebec, Canada. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took to Twitter to thank Joe Biden for sending hundreds of US firefighters up to Canada to help with the blaze while also, of course, blaming climate change.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy made sure to declare his allegiance to the climate change zealots as well in his statement yesterday:

Make no mistake, from the wildfires in Canada to those cropping up with increasing frequency and severity in our own backyard, these extreme weather events are tangible – and devastating – evidence of the intensifying climate crisis.

Satellite imagery shared by Wide Awake Media on Twitter shows plumes of smoke rising from at least 17 separate visible sites (over 100 separate fires have been reported) at around 6pm EST, according to the video. At the 47 second mark in the video below, you can see the smoke stacks begin to emerge almost simultaneously from central and southeast Quebec:

A user on Twitter shared a map that showed several lightning strikes in Quebec between the hours of 4am and 10am on June 2nd.

Is it possible that numerous separate fire sites were started from lightning strikes and simultaneously took at least 8 hours before the smoke was visible enough from satellite? While the video linked above suggests “terrorism of some kind…or an attack”, the official explanation being given by the Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry, Maïté Blanchette-Vézina is “lightning.”

In total, Quebec’s forest fire protection and response agency (SOPFEU) is showing 132 fires currently burning in that area. The Montreal Gazette reported that over 152 were active on Monday and 114 of those were “out of control”.

The smoke resulting from the fires has brought many in the northeastern United States to a grinding halt and forced some New Yorkers to break out their leftover COVID-era N95 masks to thwart the smoke in the engulfed city while over 10,000 residents in Quebec were forced to evacuate.

Radical Leftist Katie Hobbs Allows Males to Intrude on Young Girls in Arizona’s K-12 Public School Restrooms, Showers, Locker Rooms – Veto’s Bill Calling it a “Discriminatory Act Against LGBTQ+ Youth.”

Katie Hobbs vetoed another bill today aimed at protecting minors in schools from radical transgender policies.

SB1040 would require Arizona public schools to “provide a reasonable accommodation to a person who is unwilling or unable to use specified facilities designated for their sex in a public school building or multi-occupancy sleeping quarters while attending a public school-sponsored activity.”

These reasonable accommodations include access to single-occupancy restrooms or changing facilities and use of employee restrooms or changing facilities. This would prevent undue hardship for students who are uncomfortable with members of the opposite sex using gendered facilities like bathrooms and locker rooms.

As The Gateway Pundit reported, female students at a Peoria, Arizona high school were forced to share bathrooms, locker rooms, and showers with male students who “insisted on using the girls’ bathrooms.”

Not a single Democrat voted for this bill protecting young girls.

Katie Hobbs vetoed the bill calling it “yet another discriminatory act against LGBTQ+ youth.” She added, “As I stated in my veto letter for SB1001, I will veto every bill that aims to attack and harm children.” SB1001 would preclude schools from requiring employees to use a pronoun that differs from a person’s biological sex. Katie Hobbs also vetoed this bill.

Similarly, Hobbs recently vetoed another bill making it illegal to film or facilitate sexually explicit acts in government buildings and classrooms months after a teacher in Arizona was fired for shooting a porno in her classroom and posting it to OnlyFans.

Katie Hobbs does not care about children. Her agenda exposes children to sexual deviance.

Arizona State Senator John Kavanaugh put out a press release today, slamming Hobbs for refusing to protect female students and families from her woke “trans inclusive” insanity.

The inevitability has finally been realized (if reports are true): Donald Trump has been indicted by the Biden DOJ.

Just announced on Truth Social just minutes ago, Trump states he has been indicted concerning the handling of documents =- “the Boxes Hoax” and (perhaps) for Trump’s response to a grand jury subpoena requesting documents bearing classification markings.

While this was expected from Biden’s DOJ, who instigated this investigation and appointed Special Counsel Jack Smith, it’s no less shocking, only because this is new territory. Attorney General Garland has done what his predecessors - Comey, McCabe, Mueller - could not.

After years and years of prosecutorial and investigative abuses and crimes, the Department of Justice has finally indicted Trump. In doing so, the DOJ has inserted itself into the 2024 presidential election, again disenfranchising millions of voters. It’s a sad day for the country and a sobering day for those who wish for the equal administration of justice.

This story is still developing. The New York Times states there are seven counts; we expect these to concern various provisions of the Espionage Act (18 USC 793), such as the dissemination of national security information and the unauthorized retention of national security documents.

We understand that the indictment has been filed in the Federal District Court in Miami. Quick analysis: this is a comparatively good venue for Trump, given the support he has in Florida and the Miami community. It is much better than DC, where Trump would face unfavorable judges and a Democrat jury pool.

We’ll be publishing and analyzing the indictment once it is released.

The Ukraine-Biden-bribery evidence was first presented to the FBI by a trusted, highly credible, well paid informant back in 2017. Meanwhile Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden enjoyed a highly lucrative position as a board member of Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian natural gas company. According to MTG, the bribery allegations appear to involve Mykola Zlochevsky, the Ukrainian oligarch who hired Hunter Biden to serve on the board of Burisma Holdings.

MTG said, “Back in 2015, 2016, Burisma was looking to buy a US-based oil and gas company and this came from being advised by Hunter Biden and his partners.”

She continued, “This was around the time that Joe Biden had said the Ukrainian prosecutor [Viktor] Shokin was corrupt. They hired Hunter on the board to make the problems go away. Hunter advised that they could raise more money if they bought a US company…”

Trump will be arraigned in federal court in Miami next Tuesday afternoon.

Man Convicted Of Nonviolent Crime Cannot Be Stripped Of Gun Rights: Appeals Court

A Philadelphia federal appeals court has ruled that a Pennsylvania man convicted of a nonviolent crime cannot be stripped of his 2nd Amendment right to bear arms.

Bryan Range was convicted in 1995 of one count of making a false statement to obtain food stamps amid a dire financial situation. He completed a three-year probation, made $2,500 in restitution, and has committed no crimes aside from minor traffic offenses and fishing without a license since then.

After he pleaded guilty in 1995, it was classified as a misdemeanor punishable by up to five years in jail - a conviction which technically made him ineligible to possess a firearm under federal law, which states that it is "unlawful for any person … who has been convicted in any court, of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year" to own guns or ammunition.

In 2021, a federal judge ruled against Range's challenge. While his case was pending appeal, the US Supreme Court decided a landmark Second Amendment case which settled on a two-step test for the constitutionality of restrictions on firearms.

The two-step process, set forth by Supreme Court Justice Thomas Clarence, first requires the court to determine whether the Second Amendment’s “plain text” covers an individual’s conduct. If so, then that conduct is presumptively protected, and the government must prove that its law is “consistent with this Nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulation.” -Epoch Times

In applying the test to Range's case, a majority of the judges agreed in an 11-4 ruling (pdf) delivered on June 6th that despite his criminal record, he remains one of "the people" protected by the 2nd Amendment, and therefore the burden fell on the US government to prove that disarming Range would conform to "historical tradition" dating to the nation's founding.

"Yet the Government’s attempts to analogize those early laws to Range’s situation fall short," wrote Circuit Judge Thomas Hardiman in the majority opinion.

The fact that people during the Early Republic era sometimes got executed for committing nonviolent crimes, according to Hardiman, doesn’t mean that the state, then or now, could constitutionally strip a felon of his Second Amendment rights if he was not executed, because “the greater does not necessarily include the lesser.”

“Because the Government has not shown that our Republic has a longstanding history and tradition of depriving people like Range of their firearms, [the federal law] cannot constitutionally strip him of his Second Amendment rights,” Hardiman wrote.

The judges did note that the June 6 decision is limited to Range’s individual circumstances: he was banned from owning guns because the nonviolent crime he committed decades ago carried a relatively lengthy maximum prison sentence. -Epoch Times

Abbott signs border security bills, including designating cartels as terrorists

In just two legislative sessions, Abbott said, Texas has spent nearly $10 billion “to deal with the crisis and chaos caused by the Biden administration.”

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed six border bills into law on Thursday that range from designating cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations, to creating an interstate compact, to expanding resources for law enforcement.

“Washington, D.C. has failed to do its job to secure our border. As a result, Texas has had to take unprecedented steps in responding to the crisis created by the Biden administration. The Texas legislature has stepped up,” the governor said, by allocating $5.1 billion to the state’s border security mission, Operation Lone Star. Last session, they allocated $4.5 billion.

In just two legislative sessions, Abbott said, Texas has spent nearly $10 billion “to deal with the crisis and chaos caused by the Biden administration.”

He said OLS has successfully blocked illegal entry to Texas using miles of concertina wire as border barriers supplemented by Texas Military Department and DPS officers. These strategies have “directly stopped people from entering Texas illegally,” he said.

“Even though we’ve done a lot, we recognize more must be done,” he said, including the six bills the legislature passed with bipartisan support. More border security bills are expected to be called as part of a special legislative session, the governor has said, but only after the legislature agrees on how to provide $18 billion in property tax relief. The legislature remains at an impasse on the issue.

Abbott first signed SB 1900 into law, which designates Mexican cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations. It builds on an executive order the governor issued last September to designate cartels as FTOs under state law. The designation allows law enforcement and prosecutors to pursue higher penalties for crimes, including those related to delivering controlled substances or drugs or operating a stash house. It also allows FTOs to be added to law enforcement agency intelligence databases and local entities to seek public nuisance claims against FTOs operating in their communities.

He next signed SB 1484 into law. It creates a force multiplier by authorizing the Texas Department of Public Safety to train local law enforcement officials “on cartel related activity as well as the best tactics to train on border crimes,” Abbott said. It requires DPS to identify ways that local law enforcement can assist DPS to secure the border and expands collaborative efforts through Texas’ border security mission, Operation Lone Star.

SUBJECT: Declassification of Certain Materials Related to the FBI’s Crossfire Hurricane Investigation

By the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States of America, I hereby direct the following:

Section 1. Declassification and Release. At my request, on December 30, 2020, the Department of Justice provided the White House with a binder of materials related to the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Crossfire Hurricane investigation. Portions of the documents in the binder have remained classified and have not been released to the Congress or the public. I requested the documents so that a declassification review could be performed and so I could determine to what extent materials in the binder should be released in unclassified form.

I determined that the materials in that binder should be declassified to the maximum extent possible. In response, and as part of the iterative process of the declassification review, under a cover letter dated January 17, 2021, the Federal Bureau of Investigation noted its continuing objection to any further declassification of the materials in the binder and also, on the basis of a review that included Intelligence Community equities, identified the passages that it believed it was most crucial to keep from public disclosure. I have determined to accept the redactions proposed for continued classification by the FBI in that January 17 submission.

I hereby declassify the remaining materials in the binder. This is my final determination under the declassification review and I have directed the Attorney General to implement the redactions proposed in the FBI’s January 17 submission and return to the White House an appropriately redacted copy.

My decision to declassify materials within the binder is subject to the limits identified above and does not extend to materials that must be protected from disclosure pursuant to orders of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court and does not require the disclosure of certain personally identifiable information or any other materials that must be protected from disclosure under applicable law. Accordingly, at my direction, the Attorney General has conducted an appropriate review to ensure that materials provided in the binder may be disclosed by the White House in accordance with applicable law.

Sec. 2. General Provisions. (a) Nothing in this memorandum shall be construed to impair or otherwise affect:

(i) the authority granted by law to an executive department or agency, or the head thereof; or

(ii) the functions of the Director of the Office of Management and Budget relating to budgetary, administrative, or legislative proposals.

(b) This memorandum shall be implemented consistent with applicable law and subject to the availability of appropriations.

(c) This memorandum is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.

(d) The Attorney General is authorized and directed to publish this memorandum in the Federal Register.
