The proposed amendments to the International Health Regulations (“IHR”) are a completely different set of proposals to the “Pandemic Treaty” that will not need to be signed by any President or Prime Minister, nor would the proposed amendments require the advice and consent of the Senate or Parliament.

Amendments to the IHR were adopted in 2022 without Senate/Parliament confirmation. The amendments that are currently being proposed could easily be adopted in the same manner in either May 2023 or 2024.

The Trudeau government plans to redesign the Canadian crown that sits on the Royal Coat of Arms following the Coronation of King Charles III by removing all religious symbols.

According to the National Post, the Canadian Heraldic Authority, the body responsible for granting coats of arms in Canada, will replace the St. Edward’s Cross which has been on the Coat of Arms since 1957 with what critics call “the Trudeau Crown.”

Cheques or cash payments of more than $10,000 will not be accepted next year, raising concerns about the government one day adopting problematic central bank digital currencies.

The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) starting in 2024 will no longer allow citizens to pay tax debts over $10,000 by cheque and will mandate payment via electronic means under a new rule that is part of a federal omnibus budget bill likely to become law soon.

Since 1917, the CRA has allowed anyone with tax debt to pay by “cash or cheque,” but beginning next year payments of more than $10,000 will have to be done electronically. Many choose to pay larger debts by cheque because it is faster, easier and relatively secure.

The World Health Organization declared the COVD-19 emergency is over, ending a three-year designation it first adopted in January 2020.

The health body began using the word “pandemic” in March 2020 to alert the world to the perils of the virus, though the term bears no legal meaning.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said:

“For more than a year the pandemic has been on a downward trend.

“Yesterday the emergency committee meet for the fifteenth time and recommended to me that I declare an end to the public health emergency of international concern. I have accepted that advice.”

“It’s therefore with great hope that I declare Covid-19 over as a global health emergency,” he added.

As The Wall Street Journal reports, the move doesn’t trigger changes in government funding or services, according to Lawrence Gostin, faculty director of the O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law at Georgetown University, who has advised the WHO.

“The global public and political leaders have long moved on…” Gostin said.

A top Canadian internet analyst has sounded the alarm over a Liberal Party proposal being discussed this week that calls for online news “publications” whose sources can’t be “verified” to in effect be censored.

The Liberal proposal to curb online news sites will be discussed at its Party National Convention, which began Thursday and will conclude Saturday in Ottawa. It was one of 20 proposals brought forth by various provincial arms of the party, which made it on the list to be discussed.

Parks Canada issued a temporary evacuation order for residents, tourists, and livestock Wednesday at Rocky Mountain Resort that they rescinded later that day.

A federal equity program promoting “all genders” in firefighting lost control of a prescribed burn Wednesday that Canada Parks admitted went “out of control.”

The controlled blaze occurred Wednesday at Banff National Park as part of Canada’s first-ever Women-in-Fire Training Exchange (WTREX), with 35 applicants present for training “with diversity and inclusion goals in mind.”

According to the call for applicants, WTREX engaged participants of “all different genders, ethnic, and racial backgrounds” to explore the “growing role of women” in fire management while also serving as a training opportunity.”

Canada Parks said firefighters, with the assistance of five helicopters, contained the fire three hectares outside the prescribed burn area, as first reported by Counter Signal. “Around 1600, due to an unexpected shift in wind direction and speed, the fire escaped the predetermined boundary,” the federal agency stated. Results from Toronto Catholic District School Board (TCDSB) trustee candidate Robert Pella’s municipal election recount have ruled in favour of incumbent Joseph Martino in Ward 1 Etobicoke North.

The Oct. 24 election saw Pella – a Catholic lector who is involved with his local youth ministry – lose by one vote to Martino, pitting the incumbent’s 2,148 votes against Pella’s 2,147.

Pella believed that he had won the election on the night of Oct. 24, but when he woke up the next morning, his success had changed overnight.

“Last night when I went to bed, I believed I had won the election by seven votes. I was shocked when I woke up this morning and saw it completely reversed,” Pella told the Toronto Star in October.

The hopeful trustee opted for a ballot recount, believing the results of the election to be “down-right suspicious.” Pella said that his initial recount request was denied by the TCDSB, so he decided to seek court action instead. Continue…

C-18 would require social media platforms to pay Canadian media outlets for their content.

Head of public policy at Meta Canada Rachel Curran told The Canadian Press that they are ready to block news sources on their platform if the government moves forward with the bill.

Curran says that Meta will not remove content or pages that are not related to news and that most pages will still be accessible, such as those for governments and politicians.

“This is a business decision that we are forced to make,” said Curran. “We will remove news in a way that is careful, responsible and transparent.”

In a stand against Bill C-18, Meta says they are not able to follow the new regulations if they pass.

Canada remarkably blipped up slightly in this year’s press freedom rankings released by Paris-based Reporters Sans Frontières (RSF) last week to celebrate World Press Freedom Day. We still languish in RSF’s yellow “Satisfactory” category with a score of 83.53, however, while the green “Good” category starts at 85/100. That puts us 15th in the world, behind such nations as Lithuania, Estonia and East Timor, but at least we’re doing better than the UK (26) and the US (45). Since September 2022, nine Canadian police officers have been murdered, changing a trend that had seen only an average of two Canadian cops killed per year dating back to 1990.

President of the Ottawa Police Association Matthew Cox said to the Epoch Times, "It's as if there is an actual attack on the policing community. We have never seen this before in Canada."

Canada has seen an increase in violent crime since 2020 and Cox said many police are scared to go to work right now, according to the Epoch Times.

Cox added, "I think that the government needs to get itself involved and start toughening up on the crime bills."

According to the National Post, the acting deputy chief of Edmonton Police Service’s community policing bureau, "Tragic, senseless deaths like these set off a wide range of emotions for all of us. We are all human. So many things go through a police officer's mind when the unthinkable happens."

On May 11, 39-year-old Sgt. Eric Mueller out of Ontario was killed during a house call in Bourget, Ontario. He and three other officers were ambushed and shot at by the suspect, who was charged with first-degree murder for Mueller's death. Two other officers were shot and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

On March 27, 42-year-old Sgt. Maureen Breau out of Quebec, a mother of two, was stabbed to death in Louiseville, Quebec during an arrest. She was four days out from a new role as investigator.

On March 16, 30-year-old Brett Ryan and 35-year-old Travis Jordan, two Edmonton officers, were gunned down by a 16-year-old male who later shot and killed himself.

On December 27, 28-year-old Grzegorz Pierzchala, an Ontario provincial officer, was shot while responding to a call over a vehicle being stuck in a ditch. Two were arrested and charged with first-degree murder.

In Burnaby, BC, 31-year-old Constable Shaelyn Yang was serving an eviction notice to a vagrant living in a tent in a park when she was stabbed to death.

On October 11, Morgan Russell, 54, and Devon Northrup, 33, were gunned down during a disturbance call at a Innisfil, Ontario home.

On September 12, 48-year-old Constable Andrew Hong was ambushed and gunned down while getting coffee at a Mississauga, Ontario Tim Hortons.
