Jesús Alberto Guzmán Curipoma, an engineer from Ecuador who hoped to submit a request for asylum, was arrested in September 2021 at a railroad switching yard in Kinney County on a criminal trespassing charge.

Guzmán Curipoma's attorneys, Angelica Cogliano and Addy Miró, argued that Operation Lone Star violates the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution which establishes that federal law takes precedence over state laws and therefore prohibits state laws form interfering with immigration enforcement by the federal government. Cogliano told ABC News that her client should have been able to submit a claim for asylum, but was instead arrested and detained for weeks.

The Travis County District Attorney's Office, which represented the state in the hearing, also agreed that Guzmán Curipoma's arrest violated the Constitution.

"After careful consideration, the Travis County District Attorney's Office agreed that Mr. Guzmán Curipoma's prosecution for criminal trespass as part of Operation Lone Star violates the Supremacy Clause of the United States Constitution and represents an impermissible attempt to intrude on federal immigration policy," said Travis County District Attorney José Garza in a statement. "In addition, DA's office concluded that based on the evidence, there were multiple ways in which the OLS program has failed to satisfy basic, fundamental, and procedural state and federal constitutional safeguards."

Massive Fire Spreads To Passaic Chlorine Plant; Neighbors Told To Close Windows

A massive fire spread to a chlorine plant in Passaic on Friday night.

As of 11 p.m., it had grown to ten alarms.

The smoke was so widespread, it shut down a major highway and could be seen nearly 10 miles away.

As CBS2’s Nick Caloway reports, sirens could be heard from every direction in Passaic as the fire raged out of control.

“It’s unfortunate. You don’t know who was in there, you know? So it’s just bad to watch right now,” one resident said.

The fire started around 8:30 p.m. at two buildings on Canal Street and eventually spread to a nearby chlorine plant.

A fireball reached several stories high, and a toxic cloud of smoke could be seen, and smelled, miles away. New York City warned residents they may be able to see or smell smoke from the fire.

Passaic Mayor Hector Lora took to Facebook to warn people who live nearby.

“To all residents in the immediate area, please close your windows as our firefighters are desperately working to get this fire under control,” he said.

The man who bought an AR-15-style rifle for Kyle Rittenhouse pleaded no contest Monday to a reduced charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor in a deal with prosecutors that allows him to avoid prison.

Kenosha County Circuit Judge Bruce Schroeder accepted Dominick Black’s plea during a six-minute hearing. Assistant District Attorney Thomas Binger dropped two felony counts of intent to deliver a dangerous weapon to a minor as part of the deal.

Contributing to the delinquency of a minor is a misdemeanor punishable by up to nine months in jail, but Binger reduced the charge to a non-criminal county ordinance violation. Under the deal, Black will pay a $2,000 fine. Each felony count would have been punishable by up to six years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

The former acting head of the Office of Inspector General for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has pleaded guilty to charges related to a scheme to steal confidential software from the government, the Justice Department announced Friday.

Charles Edwards, who worked as acting inspector general at DHS-OIG between 2011 and 2013, is accused of having executed a scheme to steal confidential and proprietary software from the government after he left the agency and set up his own company.

The government accused him of stealing software from the office, including government databases that contained personal information of DHS and U.S. Postal Service (USPS) employees, "so that his company could develop a commercially-owned version of a case management system to be offered for sale to government agencies." Edwards has set up Delta Business Solutions in Maryland and was accused of stealing software between 2015 and 2017.

Before serving at DHS-OIG, he had worked as the USPS Office of Inspector General, and had access to software systems at both agencies, including those used for case management and sensitive personal databases. He resigned from the DHS OIG in 2013 amid a Senate investigation into his whether he had delayed investigations and softened reports, claims he denied. The Washington Post reported that he was accused of having pushed to changed findings in reports to keep them from embarrassing the Obama administration. He was also accused of retaliation against staff who resisted him.

The Justice Department said that Edwards pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit theft of government property and theft of government property. A second defendant has pleaded not guilty, and his case is ongoing.

In 2020, when Edwards was indicted, DOJ said he stole the software so that he could sell an enhanced version to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. It was also alleged that he and the second defendant, Murali Yamazula Venkata, reconfigured Edwards’ laptop to upload the stolen software and had built a testing server at his residence with the software and database.

The editor-in-chief of Germany’s top newspaper Bild has apologized for the news outlet’s fear-driven coverage of COVID, specifically to children who were told “that they were going to murder their grandma.”

In a speech delivered to camera, Julian Reichelt said sorry for Bild’s coverage which was “like poison” and “made you feel like you were a mortal danger to society.”

Reichelt directed his main sentiment towards children who have been terrorized by fearmongering media coverage which has caused child depression and suicides to soar across the world.

“To the millions of children in this country for whom our society is responsible, I want to express here what neither our government nor our Chancellor dares to tell you. We ask you to forgive us,” he said.

“Forgive us for this policy which, for a year and a half, has made you victims of violence, neglect, isolation, and loneliness.”

“We persuaded our children that they were going to murder their grandma if they dared to be what they are, children. Or if they met their friends. None of this has been scientifically proven.”

“When a state steals the rights of a child, it must prove that by doing so it protects him against concrete and imminent danger. This proof has never been provided. It has been replaced by propaganda presenting the child as a vector of the pandemic.”

Reichelt noted how moderate voices who attempted to offer calmer perspectives on the pandemic “were never invited to the expert table” and urged viewers “don’t believe this lie,” when encountering alarmist proclamations from the government.

The journalist called on authorities to open schools and sports halls instead of polling stations, warning that those who imposed brutal lockdown measures, “will have on their conscience and will leave in the history books, a multitude of innocent souls.”

Bild has a daily circulation of 1.24 million copies and is the best-selling newspaper in Europe, adding even more weight to this story.

As we highlighted recently, Germans protesting against plans to impose domestic vaccine passports were brutalized by police during demonstrations that took place in Berlin.

The ugly scenes prompted the UN’s Special Rapporteur on Torture Nils Melzer to put in a request for eyewitnesses ahead of a potential investigation.

Germans were protesting against plans to ban unvaccinated people from a plethora of different venues, including restaurants, cinemas and stadiums.

Omicron Vaccine To Be Made Available In March For The 12 People Who Haven't Gotten Omicron Yet

U.S—Pfizer has reiterated their commitment to the release of a new Omicron vaccine in March, just in time for the twelve people who haven't already gotten sick and recovered.

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The Biden Administration has announced that it will be providing high-quality masks to the American people for free. Taking no chances, President Joe Biden has committed to personally ensuring each mask passes the sniff test.

“Look, here’s the deal: we can’t just hand out any old kind of mask. If we’re gonna stop omicold—I mean omicron, then we need high-quality N95 masks,” Biden said. “That’s why I’ve tested each and every mask making sure they’re strong enough to block covid, but still able to smell the things we all love most such as food, candles, and a woman’s hair.”

“Now I can still give the ladies a good ol’ sniff without having to worry about catching omicron,” Biden continued. “When you’re wearing one of these bad boys you don’t even have to keep 6ft apart, which is perfect for coming up behind a woman and sniffing her neck.”

At publishing time, the White House announced that they would be requiring double N95 masks in hopes of preventing Biden from going around sniffing everyone.

To Save Time, Biden To Ship 500 Million Free Masks Directly To Landfill

WASHINGTON, D.C.—The White House is releasing new details surrounding President Biden’s plan to send free facemasks to every American. In an effort to save time, the free masks will be shipped directly to landfills nationwide.

“The science tells us that wearing a high-quality mask over your nose and mouth probably might possibly help prevent COVID maybe,” said press secretary Jen Psaki. “Therefore, the President is committed to making sure every American has access to a medium-quality government mask manufactured by the lowest bidder.”

“That being said, we realize that anyone who wants to wear a mask probably owns several dozen already,” Psaki continued. “We also know that many others want your grandmother to die and thus refuse to wear masks at all. So, to save money, we’ll be shipping all masks directly to local landfills.”

Joe Marsecci, chairman of the Masked Citizens Environmental Alliance, praised the Biden administration’s decision. “The decision to ship these masks directly to the landfill saves both time and money, as well as reducing carbon emissions from delivery and waste-hauling services,” Marsecci said. “The only thing more ecologically responsible would be dumping all the masks directly into the ocean.”

At press time, the White House was denying reports that Biden’s plan to purchase 500 million facemasks was in any way related to his son Hunter being named chairman of the board of a large Ukrainian facemask conglomerate.

If California is ever going to achieve true equity, the state must require parents to give away their children.

Today’s Californians often hold up equity — the goal of a just society completely free from bias — as our greatest value. Gov. Gavin Newsom makes decisions through “an equity lens.” Institutions from dance ensembles to tech companies have publicly pledged themselves to equity.

But their promises are no match for the power of parents.

Fathers and mothers with greater wealth and education are more likely to transfer these advantages to their children, compounding privilege over generations. As a result, children of less advantaged parents face an uphill struggle, social mobility has stalled, and democracy has been corrupted. More Californians are abandoning the dream; a recent Public Policy Institute of California poll found declining belief in the notion that you can get ahead through hard work.

My solution — making raising your own children illegal — is simple, and while we wait for the legislation to pass, we can act now: the rich and poor should trade kids, and homeowners might swap children with their homeless neighbors.

Now, I recognize that some naysayers will dismiss such a policy as ghastly, even totalitarian. But my proposal is quite modest, a fusion of traditional philosophy and today’s most common political obsessions.

In his “Republic,” Plato adopted Socrates’ sage advice — that children “be possessed in common, so that no parent will know his own offspring or any child his parents” — in order to defeat nepotism, and create citizens loyal not to their sons but to society.

Today, a policy of universal orphanhood aligns with powerful social trends that point to less interest in family. Californians are slower to marry, and are having fewer children — our birth rate is at an all-time low.

My proposal also should be politically unifying, fitting hand-in-glove with the most cherished policies of progressives and Trumpians alike.

Citing the familiar source of an unnamed US official, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan remarked that leaks conveyed the Russian government is on the precipice of launching a false flag as a pretext to invade Ukraine. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki expounded upon the revelations made by Sullivan, stating that Russian operations were attempting to “fabricate Ukrainian provocations in state and social media to justify a Russian intervention.” The anonymous source stated that the clandestine fabrication of a cause for war would be conducted by covert Russian operatives in the Donbass region of eastern Ukraine that has become the formative battleground between NATO and the Kremlin.

Though talks of full-fledged membership have not been taken back up, Stoltenberg stated that “In the coming days, NATO and Ukraine will sign an agreement on enhanced cyber cooperation, including Ukrainian access to NATO’s malware information sharing platform[.]” He would go on to offer insight into the current state of the partnership between Kiev and NATO, saying “NATO has worked closely with Ukraine for years to help boost its cyber defenses. NATO cyber experts in Brussels have been exchanging information with their Ukrainian counterparts on the current malicious cyber activities[.]"

Curiously, Russian government officials also broke news regarding the landscape of cyber crime operations already occurring within its borders. Russia's Federal Security Service ("FSB") announced that it defeated a hacking group named REvil. That hacking group was behind a US software firm, leading to increased calls from Washington for Russia to stop this criminal activity. This point of discussion was a prominent part of discussions between US President Joe Biden and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

Russian FSB officials conveyed that this initiative was taken at the behest of US authorities. The FSB effort seized over 425 million rubles, the equivalent of 5.5 million dollars/4.8 millions euros. Despite the apparent cooperation of the US and Russia in this cyber warfare countermeasure, any veneer of reconciliation between the two nations is sure to be shattered following the hack of Ukrainian government IT infrastructure.

Both the hack on Ukrainian government websites and the purported military intel warning of a Russian false flag come following the end of meetings with NATO. Admiral Rob Bauer characterized the diplomatic effort as largely inconsequential. Russian Foreign Minister Serbey Lavrov took a much more ominous tenor, state "“We have run out of patience…the West has been driven by hubris and has exacerbated tensions in violation of its obligations and common sense.” With the mounting news of Russian hostilities one again taking center stage, US officials risk their allegations being the straw that breaks the camel's back. If push does come to shove, the Donbass will assuredly be the theater that stages that tragedy.

Japan issues tsunami warning after major volcanic eruption

The tsunami follows a major eruption from an underwater volcano 65km south of the island nation of Tonga

A tsunami warning has been issued for Japan's entire east coast, as well as the southern Amami island and the Takara island chain.

A tsunami triggered by the undersea volcanic eruption has already hit the Pacific nation of Tonga and prompted multiple other nations to issue warnings, including the United States and Japan.

The eruption was so big it was seen from space.

Residents were warned to evacuate from coastal and riverside areas and seek higher ground for the early hours of Sunday, January 16, with waves expected to reach as high as three meters.

Some local media reported that tsunami waves had already reached the coast of Tohoku and Okinawa early Sunday.

US West Coast Under Tsunami Threat After Undersea Volcano Eruption In South Pacific

Update (1205ET): Social media reports indicate a surge of water has begun to hit the United States West Coast after a massive undersea volcano erupted Saturday off the South Pacific island of Tonga.

The National Weather Service's (NWS) National Tsunami Warning Center said waves of 1 to 3 feet are expected for parts of the West Coast.

Teachers Across France Stage Mass Walkout Over Govt's Ever-Changing COVID-19 Rules

Teachers across France staged a mass walkout this week in protest over the government’s ever-changing COVID-19 rules for those working in the education sector which they say fail to protect both staff and students.

The French Ministry of Education estimated that around 31 percent of all school teachers across the country took part in the strike on Thursday, 38 percent of whom worked in primary schools and nearly 24 percent in secondary schools.

A statement from the Mayor of Paris’ office said that in the capital city, roughly 58 percent of the teaching staff took part in the strike, and around 200 schools were forced to close, although trade and teachers unions put those figures much higher, at 75 percent.

The protests came as teachers across France are growing increasingly frustrated with the government’s ever-changing policies regarding the pandemic which has seen testing rules for children changed several times since the start of this year alone, oftentimes at the very last minute.

On top of that, educators say the government’s approach to the pandemic is failing to protect children or ensure replacement cover for teachers who are falling ill with the coronavirus. Unions are also calling on the government to provide more protective FFP2 face masks for staff as well as carbon dioxide monitors in classrooms so that they can ensure that they are sufficiently ventilated, as per The Guardian.

DNA test to be added to Covid screening

People most at risk from coronavirus can be identified with a simple genetic check, health officials say

The Polish Health Ministry is planning to introduce a new type of screening for coronavirus after a gene was discovered that determines the likelihood of a patient suffering from severe or fatal Covid-19.

People most at risk of suffering the severest effects or even dying of coronavirus can be identified using a genetic test, health officials in Poland revealed this week. The study that resulted in the discovery was supported by the country’s Ministry of Health and Medical Research Agency, and involved around 1,500 patients with Covid-19. Researchers from the Medical University of Bialystok identified a gene in chromosome 3 that significantly influences how badly the virus will affect an individual.

“After more than a year and a half of work, it was possible to identify a gene responsible for a predisposition to becoming seriously ill [with Covid],” Health Minister Adam Niedzielski said at a press conference on Thursday.

The findings will now be applied to help identify patients at increased risk from the virus when or even before they contract the infection. The Health Ministry plans to develop and launch a “relatively simple” and quick genetic test that can be performed alongside PCR screening within a few months.

It could also be implemented around the world to help people with apparent genetic preconditions, Polish officials said.

German Health Minister Supports Vaccine Mandate For All Adults

After weeks of warning that it was really planning to follow through with plans to make vaccines mandatory throughout German society, the German government just took one step closer to making the mandate a reality.

German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach said Friday that he would support a vaccine mandate for all German adults age 18 and up. Presumably, his feelings reflect those of Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who has never hesitated to discuss his views on mandatory vaccination (he's in favor of it).

However, the government's support doesn't change the fact that a vocal minority of Germans are vehemently against mandatory jabs. And it's not just Germany: in neighboring Austria, authorities are resorting to arresting elderly women for going to the grocery store without showing their digital identity card.

As Germany pushes for even tighter restrictions on the unvaccinated, who have been demonized by Germany's leadership in recent weeks, German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach said Friday that he supports imposing a vaccine mandate requiring all German adults 18 and up to have at least their first two vaccine shots.

Lauterbach also said during his press briefing Friday that the German government hopes to "stretch out" the omicron wave to prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed, but still he expects to reach "endemic stage" by the end of the year. Of course, that's what they said last year, too (although there were different people in charge back then). He also took a minute to slam the British: "had we followed the policies pursued by the British, we would have suffered twie as many deaths from COVID here in Germany," he said.

Keep in mind, the German government has already mandated N-95 masks, a policy that some places in the US have started to mimic.

Germany just recently became one of the first countries in Europe to approve COVID boosters for 12-to-17 year olds. The decision came as Germany reported 81K new COVID infections, a new daily record.

Fully Vaccinated Australians In Hospital For COVID-19 Surpass Unvaccinated

For the first time, New South Wales (NSW) has seen more fully vaccinated patients hospitalised with COVID-19 compared to the number of unvaccinated patients as the Omicron outbreak continues to edge toward its peak.

Data published by the NSW government’s COVID-19 Critical Intelligence Unit has revealed that as of Jan. 9, 68.9 percent of COVID-19 patients aged 12 and over in hospitals had two doses of the vaccine, with 28.8 percent unvaccinated.

The number of double-dose vaccinated patients in intensive care units (ICUs) also surpassed those of the unvaccinated, with 50.3 percent of the vaccinated presenting to ICU with COVID-19, more than the 49.1 percent who are unvaccinated.

However, based on the data presented, unvaccinated individuals appear to be six times more likely to be hospitalised and nearly 13 times more likely to be sent to ICU than those who are fully vaccinated.

This is considering that the number of unvaccinated patients appears to be over-represented in the figures—7.3 percent of the NSW population aged 12 and over at the time were unvaccinated, but they made up half of the COVID-19 ICU patients in the NSW Health system. At present, Australia does not permit alternative treatments, such as ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine, which are available and used in other countries.

According to NSW Health, 95.1 percent of people aged 16 and over have received the first dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, and 93.7 percent have received two doses as of Jan. 11.

The rise in the proportion of hospitalisations amongst the fully vaccinated comes both amid the spread of the Omicron variant of the CCP virus in Australia, along with the loss in the efficacy of the available COVID-19 vaccines.

A spokesperson for NSW Health told The Epoch Times on Jan. 11 that Omicron had supplanted Delta as the primary variant spreading in NSW, but that it also appeared to be less dangerous than its predecessor.

“The Omicron variant is associated with a lower rate of hospitalisation and ICU admission,” the spokesperson said.

While the state recorded 32,155 cases of the virus on Jan. 9, 2,030 were hospitalised, and only 159 had been sent to ICU. As of Jan. 12, the total number of cases has jumped to 53,909, with 2,242 hospitalised and 175 in ICU.

“NSW Health urges the community to continue to practise COVID-safe behaviours to keep themselves and the community safe, including wearing a mask indoors, maintaining physical distancing, and practising hand hygiene.”
