Ukraine has received nearly $350 million from Canada to fill up its underground storage facilities with gas for the winter, Ukrainian media reported on Wednesday, citing Prime Minister Denis Shmigal.

The government in Ottawa has transferred 12.7 billion hryvnia ($344 million) to Ukraine’s state-owned gas company Naftogaz he said, adding that “Ukraine earlier received this money from the government of Canada.” Shmigal also noted that the “procedure for using state budget funds for procuring gas in 2022-2023 was endorsed at today's [government] meeting.”

This week, Kiev also received €200 million ($208 million) from Norway for the same purpose and is awaiting another €300 million to be bankrolled by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development under the agreement reached earlier, the Ukrainian premier said.

The funding comes as citizens in Canada and the EU are facing unprecedented energy inflation and a cost-of-living crisis, with thousands of families struggling to pay their energy bills.

Canadians have seen a dramatic surge in electricity and gas prices in recent months. Energy analysts warn that households in the country can expect their bills to rise by between 50% and 100% on average this winter.

The revelations came about during Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland’s testimony before the commission, and was sourced from a heavily redacted readout of conversations between her and Canadian banking CEOs on February 13, the day before Prime Minister Justin Trudeau invoked the Emergencies Act (EA).

“I am told this is a public safety lead, but if you list them as people subject to sanctions (as if they are terrorists) we could act swiftly,” one banker said to Freeland.

Freeland’s handwritten notes from her conversation with the banking CEOs show that while speaking to them, she had written, “you need to designate the group as terrorists.”

On the same call, however, one banking executive warned about using Canada’s financial institutions for political means.

Independent news outlet Blacklock’s Reporter says they are retaining legal counsel with a plan to fight their recent eviction from the National Press Building, which houses outlets from Ottawa’s Parliamentary Press Gallery (PPG).

The eviction stems from complaints made to the PPG by Canadian Press journalists Emilie Bergeron and Michel Saba and freelance journalist Hélène Buzzetti, who claimed Blacklock’s managing editor Tom Korski created a “toxic environment.”

The Press Gallery released a statement Tuesday saying the complaints were “well-founded” and that Korski’s behaviour had “constituted serious misconduct.”

“Mr. Korski was given the opportunity to respond to the complaint, but the Executive did not receive any representations in that regard,” wrote the statement. However, Blacklock’s disputes the extent to which they were permitted to respond.

The Press Gallery confirmed that Korski is prohibited from accessing several shared spaces in the Gallery building for 90 days. Korski still holds his membership status at the PPG.

According to Blacklock’s, police officers accompanied by PPG executives evicted Korski from the building last Friday. Korski claims the eviction was due to their continued protests against media subsidies and was the “first of its kind in the history of the National Press Building.”

The Press Gallery says Korski was not escorted by a police officer.

Blacklock’s has drawn attention to the fact the eviction occurred one day after they published Access to Information records which revealed a private meeting between 35 publishers, who remained unknown, and the Canada Revenue Agency on how $595 million in subsidies were distributed. Continue...

The University of Western Ontario (UWO) has abruptly ended its Wuhan coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine mandate after two students died “suddenly and unexpectedly.”

According to The COVID Blog, UWO first implemented a COVID-19 vaccine mandate for students living on campus in May 2021. It was later extended to all students and staff members in August 2021. The university took things to the next level for the fall 2022 semester when it announced a COVID-19 booster mandate two weeks before the start of classes and after students had already paid their tuition and other miscellaneous fees.

The Globe and Mail reported that UWO was the only Canadian university that had a campus-wide booster mandate in place. In response, hundreds of students protested against the booster mandate in late August. (Related: 11 Professors demand University of California end COVID vaccine mandates.)

Five students sued UWO at the Ontario Superior Court in late September to block the booster mandate. Judge Kelly Tranquilli, however, ruled in favor of the university and dismissed the lawsuit on Sept. 24. Her decision stated that UWO is “expressly and broadly empowered to … do such things as it considers to be for the good of the university and consistent with the public interest,” and that the university storing students’ medical records was perfectly legal.

The university extended the deadline for students to get boosted from Oct. 1, 2022 to Jan. 9, 2023.

However, management and organizational studies major Spencer Cornelis “passed away unexpectedly” on Oct. 18. Later, computer science major and social media influencer Megha Thakur “suddenly and unexpectedly” died on Nov. 24.

This eventually led to UWO backtracking on its vaccine mandate, per a Nov. 29 announcement on the university’s website.

“[UWO] has committed to regularly reviewing our vaccination policy. Based on the latest consultation with our medical experts and local public health, we are revoking our vaccination policy and will no longer require students, employees and visitors to be vaccinated to come to campus.”

Auditor General Karen Hogan released a report on the government’s vaccine program on Tuesday, and found generally the government did a good job procuring and distributing vaccines to provinces and Canadians in a timely way, but it failed to avoid wastage.

The Bank of Canada raised its benchmark interest rate by half a percentage point to 4.25 per cent on Wednesday, the latest oversized step in its efforts to tamp down inflation.

The central bank also signalled in a statement accompanying the decision that a pause in rate hikes could be coming.

"Looking ahead, Governing Council will be considering whether the policy interest rate needs to rise further to bring supply and demand back into balance and return inflation to target," the Bank of Canada statement read.

Ottawa detective Helen Grus, a constable by rank, faces charges of misconduct nearly a year after being suspended after she began investigating the vaccination status of a string of mothers whose babies died suddenly.

A six-year-old girl who was a member of the Richmond Raven U7 girls hockey team from Richmond, British Columbia, died suddenly last month after suffering from a massive stroke.

On November 26, Danielle Mei Cabana, who had been taken to BC Children’s Hospital for treatment of flu symptoms, passed away unexpectedly, according to Richmond News.

On Instagram, Danielle’s father, Denis Cabana, claimed that she contracted the flu at the same time as her sisters around Remembrance Day.

After her sisters had fully recovered from the virus, Danielle was admitted to the hospital and was moved to the intensive care unit.

Danielle was diagnosed with myocarditis, which doctors believed was caused by the flu.

She underwent two heart surgeries and was able to breathe on her own, but in the end, she died from a “massive stroke.”

“While we may not be able to see or touch her again, her spirit and memories will live forever within her parents and sisters,” wrote Denis. “We will honor her life and make sure she experiences a full life through our eyes.”

Community members are encouraged to post pictures and share stories of Danielle.

“Pictures that we haven’t seen of Dani, that have come up over the past couple days have brought one of the biggest smiles to our face over this hellish time,” wrote Denis.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) says a drug called ivermectin does not work against COVID-19 but links to studies that show it does, an Epoch Times review has found.

The FDA’s website states, “Currently available data do not show ivermectin is effective against COVID-19.”

But half of the studies to which the FDA points support using ivermectin against COVID-19, according to the review.

The papers cut against the drug agency’s repeated exhortations for people not to take ivermectin for COVID-19. In Twitter posts, public statements, and emails, FDA officials have repeatedly warned against ivermectin. Some of those statements triggered a lawsuit from doctors who say the agency’s role is to approve drugs, not to issue recommendations. The suit was dismissed this week.

Dr. Pierre Kory, who frequently prescribes ivermectin for COVID-19 and co-authored a meta-analysis that concluded the drug is effective against the illness, told The Epoch Times that the government’s position on ivermectin “is one of the most glaring examples of the corruption of modern evidence based medicine.”

“There’s one message they want everyone to understand. And that message is that ivermectin doesn’t work,” Kory said. “That’s not a scientific conclusion, that’s theirs. That’s their perverted and distorted interpretation of the data.”

Federal prosecutors have dropped all charges against a Freedom Convoy protester accused of interfering with the property of downtown Ottawa residents, among other violations.

A press release by the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms (JCCF) explains that the charges were dropped against the individual, known in court-documents only as J.W., after the Crown agreed a provincial declaration of emergency to deal with the Windsor blockades did not apply to this matter.

“On February 19, 2022, J.W. was charged with interfering with the lawful use and enjoyment of property of downtown Ottawa residents, failure to obey a court order, and obstruction of justice for failing to identify himself to police,” the JCCF wrote.

A recent study published by CTV News suggests that one in 100 cardiovascular deaths result from extreme cold or hot weather. The solution, the article suggests, is more climate change policies.

Researchers published their findings in the American Heart Association journal Circulation. The study analyzed 32 million heart-related deaths over the last four decades across 27 countries.

Researchers found that one in 100 cardiovascular-related deaths “may be” attributed to extreme temperature days. During extremely hot days, 2.2 additional cardiovascular deaths per 1,000 were discovered. And, during frigid days, 9.1 more deaths occurred out of 1,000.

That’s 400% more cardiovascular excess deaths from extreme cold weather than hot.

Despite this, CTV leveraged the study to push for climate change policies to curb warming temperatures.

Across Canada, there are no pathologists performing proper autopsies on deceased covid injection victims. None are performing the tests necessary to show that the injections caused the deaths.

Many people die in the days, weeks, and months after the jabs; the cover up of this in Canada is extreme. Doctors who reported the deaths and injuries have had their licenses to practice medicine suspended and revoked. Only cooperative and complacent doctors remain in the old tax funded hospitals and clinics; and only they fill out death certificates now.

Ottawa will be the first among G7 countries to use a law that allows sanctioned assets to be forfeited by a court order

Canada intends to arrest and confiscate $26 million from the sanctioned company Granite Capital Holdings owned by Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, the Canadian Foreign Ministry announced on Monday.

Canada, along with the EU and the UK, imposed sanctions on Abramovich shortly after the conflict in Ukraine began in late February.

It is the first time Ottawa will be using its new legislation – the Special Economic Measures Regulations – which allows the country’s government to confiscate the sanctioned assets of blacklisted individuals by a court order.

According to the official statement published on the government’s website, Foreign Minister Melanie Joly will now consider making a court application to seize Abramovich’s assets and hand them over “permanently to the Crown.”

If forfeited, the property of the Russian billionaire and former owner of the English football club Chelsea will be used to help reconstruct Ukraine and compensate “victims of the war,” the announcement said.

Canada would also become the first among the G7 countries to implement this measure.

The law allowing for this forfeiture was passed in June. In October, Canadian authorities announced an allocation of C$76 million ($55.6 million) to fund a new unit in Joly’s ministry dedicated to sanctions enforcement and additional support for the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

Abramovich attended peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine in Istanbul in late March and later in April visited Kiev in a bid to restart the stalled talks.
