SAN DIEGO (AP) — The military contractor who pleaded guilty to orchestrating the “Fat Leonard” corruption scandal and was under house arrest in San Diego is now on the run after cutting off his GPS monitoring ankle bracelet over the weekend, federal authorities said.

Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Omar Castillo said Leonard Glenn Francis removed the tracker Sunday, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

After police officers found Francis' home empty, the San Diego Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service began a high-profile search, the newspaper reported.

Castillo said neighbors witnessed U-Haul moving trucks coming to and from Francis' home in the days before his escape.

Francis was arrested in San Diego in 2013 and pleaded guilty in 2015 to offering $500,000 in bribes to Navy officers. In exchange, the officers passed him classified information and even went so far as redirecting military vessels to ports that were lucrative for his Singapore-based ship servicing company.

Prosecutors say Francis and his company overcharged the U.S. military by more than $35 million for its services.

Francis has been on house arrest since at least 2018 and under the supervision of a federal agency that monitors defendants who are out of custody until sentencing. He was set to be sentenced at the end of month.

Francis’ defense attorney, Devin Burstein, declined to comment to the Union-Tribune on Monday.

A federal judge revealed Monday that former President Trump’s medical records and documents related to his accounting information and taxes were seized during the FBI’s raid of his Mar-a-Lago home.

U.S. District Judge from the Southern District of Florida Judge Aileen M. Cannon ordered Monday that an independent special master be appointed to review Trump’s records for attorney-client and executive privilege. The judge also ordered the Justice Department stop its own review of the material for investigative purposes.

In the order, Cannon revealed the types of documents that had been seized during the raid.

"According to the Privilege Review Team's Report, the seized materials include medical documents, correspondence related to taxes, and accounting information," Cannon wrote.

A source familiar told Fox News that the FBI seized 40 years of Trump’s medical records from Mar-a-Lago during the search.

Congressional Democrats have been seeking Trump's tax returns since 2019. Last month, a federal appeals court paved the way for the House Ways and Means Committee to finally obtain Trump’s tax returns from the Internal Revenue Service, under a law that permits the disclosure of an individual's tax returns to the congressional committee.

Trump may seek emergency intervention measures from the Supreme Court in an attempt to temporarily block any release of those tax records to the committee.

Marine veteran Stuart Scheller, who demanded accountability from senior military leaders over the botched Afghanistan withdrawal, in an exclusive interview with Breitbart News slammed Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley for being focused on “white rage” rather than fighting wars.

Milley, during a House hearing in June 2021, defended military cadets learning about Critical Race Theory and said he wanted to “learn about ‘white rage,'” using a term used by critical race theorists. Two months later, the military had to conduct a chaotic and hasty withdrawal from Afghanistan that ended in the tragic deaths of 13 service members and more than 100 Afghan civilians.

“Obviously our leaders have the wrong focus. I mean, Lloyd Austin, came into office while the Russians were staging on the border of Ukraine. We were trying to withdraw from one of the longest wars in American history. And after 100 days in office, he said he did problem framing and decided COVID was the biggest threat to the DoD followed by extremism. Like obviously his priorities are skewed,” Scheller told Breitbart News in an interview in advance of the release of his new book, Crisis of Command: How We Lost Trust and Confidence in America’s Generals and Politicians.

“And so I go back to what we were just talking about where fighting should be the focus at all times. And obviously you need a Secretary of Defense to manage that. And Mark Milley is the same thing, not only ‘white rage,’ he’s talking about climate control,” he said. “‘Hey, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, like, your job is to advise on military policy winning wars like climate control is not in your wheelhouse,'” he added.

Scheller said Milley was more interested in people-pleasing. “They get conditioned that they have to give their boss what they want. And they’re looking at their politicians and they’re seeing that, you know, equal opportunity or climate control or white rage are important topics, so they need to talk about it. Andwhat they should be doing is protecting the values of the institution in which they lead.”

Senator Chuck Grassley (R-IA) said Monday on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends” that because former FBI agent Timothy Thibault allegedly interfered with an investigation into Hunter Biden, FBI Director Christopher Wray needed to do “much more” to combat political bias within the agency.

Grassley said, “We wouldn’t even know about it if there weren’t whistleblowers, very patriotic people in the Justice Departmentthat came to me and gave me this information about Thibault. He opens an investigation against Trump based upon very just fuzzy newspaper reporting and then closes down an investigation on Hunter. And at least Wray moved him out of that position. Now he is not even in the department. But I think Wray has to do much more to come up with a plan to show that this political bias within the FBI is going to be attacked and rooted out.”

He continued, “If there isn’t corruption the way they take care of that by total transparency whether it’s in regard to the most raid in Florida or whether it’s how they treated Hillary Clinton different than Trump or whether what they are doing with Thibault.”

Grassley added, “That’s why total transparency is important. The public’s business has to be public.”

Democrat Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) chairman Rep. Sean Patrick Maloney (D-NY) said this past weekend on Fox News Sunday that the members of his party are ready to campaign with President Joe Biden.

Maloney claimed that his members are ready to campaign with Biden, and the country would see that this week. This comes after very few members would admit they were willing to campaign together this summer, but also after his party has seen a few legislative accomplishments and the president’s approval has increased slightly.

Guest anchor Mike Emanuel asked if the Democrats running for office should be welcoming Biden to their district to campaign with them. His approval rating has started to rise since his low approval rating of 29 percent this summer.

“You’d better believe we’re gonna stand with the president and say we passed, in a bipartisan way, better roads, better bridges, better health care for our veterans,” Maloney said, pointing to Pennsylvania and Ohio — where Democrat candidates have met with Biden during his recent visits. “That’s the kind of agenda that we’re standing in support of, and you see it working in the polls.”

Emanuel pressed Maloney about lawmakers — especially those in tough reelection battles — typically rushing to presidential events to eagerly tout successful legislation after their party passes major bills and fulfills campaign promises.

“You’re going to see it this week. There’s going to be a celebration on the White House lawn,” Maloney added. “You better believe Democrats are going to celebrate that — so are the voters — and that’s why we’ve been winning special elections from Alaska to New York.”

After the Democrats passed several partisan bills and won special elections last month — in New York and Alaska — the party is starting to feel optimistic about their chances of keeping the House majority in the midterm elections roughly two months away. However, this comes as numerous polls are still showing Republican leading Democrats on the generic ballot.

But despite what Maloney said, vulnerable Democrats like Iowa’s Rep. Cindy Axne and Ohio’s Rep. Marcy Kaptur recently released campaign ads distancing themselves from Biden.

Republicans are trying to unseat Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) from her speakership and take back the majority in the House of Representatives.

The riots that ensued from the death of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin, led to widespread destruction across the county.

Supervisor Terry Rose referred to the riots as the “biggest crisis in the history of Kenosha County.”

Heather Wessling, vice president of economic development for the Kenosha Area Business Alliance, said thedamage to the buildings amounts to an estimated $50 million.

On Monday’s “CNN Newsroom,” Commissioner of the National Center for Education Statistics in the Institute of Education Sciences at the U.S. Department of Education Peggy Carr responded to a question on whether there’s a better way to handle education in the event of another pandemic by stating that “we’ve already done a lot.” She cited schools changing how they taught students, having “more devices in the hands of students” than before, and teachers getting more training “in how to impart instruction if something like this, God forbid, will happen again.”

Host Erica Hill asked, “So, as we look at this, there’s the one piece of, okay, how do we work to reverse this learning loss, how do we better serve our children across this country, pandemic or not? There’s also the question of, God forbid it should happen again, but if there is a future outbreak, if there is some sort of a pandemic situation, is there a way to do things differently?”

Carr answered, “Well, we’ve already done a lot. The schools pivoted. They did a lot of changes in how they were administering instruction to the students that I think we’re going to learn from. We have more devices in the hands of students than we had before. Teachers have gotten more staff development in how to impart instruction if something like this, God forbid, will happen again. I think that we are better — in a better place than we were before the pandemic, that’s for sure.”

The number of American jobs outsourced to foreign visa workers each year has exploded in recent decades to more than half a million, federal data suggests.

The Immigration Act of 1990, signed by then-President George H.W. Bush, greatly expanded the number of visa programs and created today’s business model where employers import foreign visa workers in droves to take American jobs in blue-collar and white-collar industries.

Federal data from the State Department shows that in 2021, almost 550,000 foreign visa workers were allowed to enter the United States labor market to take American jobs. Most of those half a million foreign visa workers, almost 470,000, arrived on the H1-B, H-4, H2-A, and H2-B visas.

This figure does not include large portions of the foreign visa worker population who are in the U.S. waiting to secure green cards.The federal government refuses to track the total foreign visa worker population. The figure also does not include the millions of foreign nationals who are in the U.S. on work permits and the roughly eight million illegal aliens holding American jobs today.

In 2021, alone, nearly 118,000 foreign visa workers arrived in the U.S. with their spouses and children on the H-1B and H-4 visas. The H-1B visa allows Fortune 500 corporations to fire their American employees and replace them with H-1B visa workers mostly in the STEM professions.

“Thousands of skilled migrants with H-1B visas working as subcontractors at well-knowncorporations like Disney, FedEx, Google, and others appear to have been underpaid by at least $95 million,” Economic Policy Institute (EPI) researchers revealed of the program last year.

The large-scale white-collar importation scheme comes even as millions of Americans with degrees and qualifications for STEM jobs are not employed in STEM professions.

In 2021, the Census Bureau found that “among the 50 million employed college graduates ages 25 to 64 in 2019, 37 percent reported a bachelor’s degree in science or engineering but only 14 percent worked in a STEM occupation.”

The Census Bureau data shows that in effect, less than 3-in-10 STEM-educated Americans hold jobs in the STEM fields.

Meanwhile, in the blue-collar industries, more than 308,000 foreign visa workers were imported by the federal government to take agricultural and nonagricultural American jobs in 2021 on the H-2A and H-2B visas.

The H-2B visa program, notably, has been widely used by businesses to drag down the wages of American workers in landscaping, conservation work, the meatpacking industry, the construction industry, and fishing jobs, a 2019 study from the Center for Immigration Studies found.

When comparing the wages of H-2B foreign workers to the national wage average for each blue-collar industry, about 21 out of 25 of the industries offered lower wages to foreign workers than Americans. In the construction industry, wage suppression is significant, with H-2B foreign workers being offered more than 20 percent less than their American counterparts....

The Sherman Anti-Trust Act of 1890 became law while Theodore Roosevelt was serving on the U.S. Civil Service Commission, but it played a large and important role during his presidency.

When Theodore Roosevelt’s first administration sought to end business monopolies, it used the Sherman Anti-Trust Act as the tool to do so. Passed after a series of large corporate mergers during the 1880s, this Act enabled government departments and private individuals to use the court system to break up any organization or contract alleged to be in restraint of trade. The federal government used the Act to invalidate formal and informal arrangements by which different companies in the same industry set prices, though for the first decade of its existence the Act did little to slow the rate of business mergers.

This changed when, in 1902, President Roosevelt urged his Justice Department to dismantle the Northern Securities Corporation. This entity was a holding company, a combination of separate railroads administered by a Board of Trustees. At issue was its control of railroading in the northern tier of the United States from Chicago to the Pacific Northwest. After losing in the lower courts, Northern Security trustees appealed to the Supreme Court, which ruled 5-4 in March 1904 that the Northern Securities Corporation violated the Sherman Anti-Trust Act, the first major example of trust-busting during Roosevelt’s presidency.

Democrat politicians have gone silent since 13 more illegal migrants drowned in the Rio Grande as they tried to reach President Joe Biden’s welcome at the border.

But some Republicans are stepping up to blame and shame Democrats for the record and growing death toll of men, women, and children.

“Nine dead trying to illegally cross the border,” tweeted former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, shortly before the discovery of four additional bodies. “This is a direct result of Biden’s border policies,” said Pompeo, who used his legal authority in 2020 to help curb migration under President Donald Trump.

However, even before the bodies are buried, business-backed migration advocates and some Democrats used the September 1 drowning deaths of 13 adults and children to demand yet more legal immigration — regardless of the pocketbook damage to American families.

“This heartbreaking tragedy highlights once again the need for Congress to act and pass immigration reforms,” said a tweet from the business-funded National Immigration Forum. “Congress must act quickly to pass solutions that bring compassion and security to our border, in the names of human lives and human dignity,” said the group, which helps deliver cheap migrant labor to Fortune 500 corporations.

“Another horrible tragedy at the border,” tweeted Aaron Reichlin-Melnick, an advocate with the American Immigration Council, which is a spin-off of the immigration lawyers’ trade association. “With the ports of entry shut … desperate people feel like they have no other options,’ he tweeted. “The blame is bipartisan and decades-old,” he said.

National borders are killing migrants, saysAustin Kocher, a migration advocate at Syracuse University who regards the public support for clear borders as illegitimate: “The fact that migrants have been found in [sic] dead in large numbers at the borders of the US and Europe this week should be understood as … the routine functioning of borders and the perceived expendability of migrants’ lives.”

The different reactions of Democrats, Republicans, and migration zealots are rational in the final few weeks before the critical November election.

The pro-migration progressives simply deny Americans’ right to clear borders and stable labor markets. They insist that Americans’ nation actually belongs to foreigners because it somehow became a “Nation of Immigrants” in the 1950s.

Whatever the body count, the progressive zealots — including Biden’s border chief, Alejandro Mayorkas, can lobby in Congress, the media, universities, and the public because they are lavishly backed by Wall Street investors. The investors support the advocacy campaigns because they gain extra workers, consumers, and renters whenever migrants cross the border, legally or illegally.

But Democrat politicians keep quiet because they know that Biden’s mostly-open border is deeply unpopular, even among their own base.

They also know that the media coverage of Biden’s massive death toll could shame millions of swing-voting Americans to vote against Biden in November.

Biden’s recognized 2022 death toll is roughly three times the 247 migrants who died in 2019 under Trump’s oversight.

So Democrat consultants are urging Democrats to stay quiet on migration.

“Major parts of the Democratic base accept Trump’s dire warning that America has never been more at risk from crime, open borders, disrespect for police, and a lack of pride in America,” famed pollster Stanley Greenberg wrote in an August 30 article. He continued:

I asked voters to choose between a Democratic message, with its hugely popular policies, and a Republican message, embodying Trump’s words on making America great again, that led with crime and borders and ended with the police. A stunning 28 percent of Blacks chose the America First message. But more alarming, 45 percent of AAPI voters and 47 percent of Hispanics did too. (This pollster is delusional and spreading propaganda if he thinks democrat message is hugely popular)

The Democrats’ media allies also muffle the ghastly, government-created drama under other news, as they did with the June death of 53 migrants in a San Antonio truck.

For example, the New York Times tried to excuse Biden, instead blaming imaginary “tightened border restrictions … [that] have encouraged more desperate people to take risks...

Bed Bath & Beyond CFO's suicide leaves billionaire investor on the hook for lawsuit

Bed Bath & Beyond (BBBY) Chief Financial Officer Gustavo Arnal leapt from the 18th floor window of a luxury apartment building in downtown Manhattan on Friday, days after a lawsuit alleged he and billionaire investor Ryan Cohen made millions while the company crumbled. According to the Daily Mail, shareholder Pengcheng Si filed the lawsuit on August 23 and is seeking damages for a "pump and dump" scheme that alleges Cohen approached Arnal and the two then deliberately inflated, or pumped up, the value of the company's stock and then dumped it, making millions for themselves and leaving everyone else to lose in their investment. Si, a Virginia resident, filed the suit on behalf of all the BBBY shareholders who purchased stock between March 25 and August 18. On Wednesday, BBBY announced it lost a quarter of its value and said they're making massive cuts and closures. It was suggested that around 20 percent of the company's corporate and supply chain staff will have their positions terminated, with nearly 150 locations across the country closing their doors. Shareholders lost around $1.2 billion. On August 16, Arnal made a little over $1 million from selling 42,513 shares in company stock. The lawsuit alleges that billionaire Cohen, who was BBBY's majority shareholder, had Arnal "regulate all insider sales" for the pair's benefit. According to the lawsuit, Arnal made "materially misleading statements and omissions" and "blatantly misrepresented the value and profitability of [the company] causing BBBY to report revenues that was fictitious." While the company was really in freefall, Arnal led investors to believe, "Through mid August 2022, BBBY appeared — from the company's public statements and financial reporting to be a successful turning-around company." Arnal's actions kept other insiders from "flooding the market" with stock while Cohen could do just that. Cohen had previously agreed to buy around 1.6 million shares at low cost. On August 16, the same day Arnal sold his shares, Cohen filed with the SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) stating he owned a total of 9,450,100 shares, including the new 1,670,100 under certain call options. The idea was that this would create a frenzy of demand for the market to purchase BBBY stock. Stock prices rose to 75 percent that same day and Cohen signed forms saying he was going to sell all his shares and call options, banking a huge profit. As the New York Post reported at the time, "Cohen earned a $68.1 million profit on the stock, generating a 56% gain on his original investment." The very next day shares dropped to $22.50 and continued to drop after that, hitting $8.78 on August 23.While Cohen will face the lawsuit, Arnal's death has been ruled a suicide according to CNBC. The New York Post reports that his wife was in their apartment, located in Tribeca's "Jenga Building," and she watched him jump and plunge to his demise on the concrete below. Arnal did not leave a note.

If someone other than the voter is delivering their absentee ballot, it must be delivered to the clerk of the respective city or township office. Not to a drop box. There are no specific rules in Michigan regarding nursing home absentee voting. Michigan does not have special voting deputies for nursing homes as does Wisconsin. Therefore, the general rules apply as noted above.

As seen in the video, postal workers made visits to the drop boxes. MC4EI discussed this with postal service employees in the metro-Detroit area. None of them has ever delivered absentee ballots to drop boxes, but only to clerks offices.

Multiple ballots being deposited raises the question- is this from residents of one household? Potentially 10 to 50 voters from one household? Or does it represent something which is illegal?

Multiple ballot drops have been seen in other states as well, such as Pennsylvania in which a woman was seen dumping a stack of ballots in the off year 2021 election in Montgomery County. In Pennsylvania, if a voter designates another person to submit their ballot, they are not permitted to be dropped off at a drop box but only at the clerks office. In fact, hundreds of people were seen on surveillance videos as stuffing multiple ballots into drop boxes during the Pennsylvania 2021 election.

How can elections be considered secure with such questionable and potentially illegal behavior occurring at drop boxes, even despite surveillance cameras being present? And with no accountability or follow-up by law enforcement for investigation or prosecution? The only sane conclusion one can come to is that drop boxes should be eliminated.

Both millennials and Generation Zers are avid consumers of news , with nearly 80% reporting that they consume news every day. A new AP-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research survey found that nearly a third of the group is also willing to pay for news . Just 23% of the group, which ranges from 16-40 years old, has a positive view of the media in general. They're more likely to trust local media outlets, but trust in those entities is scarce as well. The majority of respondents reported spending either 2-4 or 5-8 hours online each day. While many follow the news, less than a third find it enjoyable or entertaining. This number fell from seven years ago, when more than half of the group reported enjoying news. Furthermore, only 37% of respondents say they like discussing the news with friends and family, similarly plummeting from 53% seven years prior. Only 12% believe misinformation is not a problem, while more than half of respondents described it as a "major problem." Additionally, almost half of millennials and Generation Z'ers reported being either unfamiliar with or only a little familiar with what an op-ed, or opinion editorial, is.

I'm A Democrat Who Thinks Biden's Rhetoric Has Gone Too Far

I am a lifelong Democrat. I even worked for Joe Biden at one time. Thus, nothing that has happened in America since January 2021 has surprised me. But the president’s speech in Philadelphia last week marked a new low for America and a new low for a party that I once idolized.

To me, the Democratic Party was the party of hope, tolerance, and opportunity. Indeed, those themes echoed through Bill Clinton’s speeches in 1992. Clinton’s presidency was the high-water mark of the post-war Democratic Party. He blended JFK’s idealism with Reagan’s folksiness. He embodied America’s middle class, the greatest political force at the time, and pulled the country into a new century that our leaders promised would be peaceful and safe.

That has all vanished. Biden’s speech in Philadelphia last Thursday confirmed it.

As speeches go, the Biden speech was a letdown, filled with shallow attacks on broad categories of people and, of course, the former president. Nobody outside of a CNN newsroom, which appears to have modified the speech’s lighting in real-time, will be inspired by a fall campaign focused on Donald Trump and the people who rioted at the Capitol.

But writing a poor speech is one thing. Delivering it in front of a Nuremberg-style backdrop is quite another. The imagery shocked many people. It should have shocked everybody. It took just a few minutes for The Babylon Bee to draw comparisons between Biden’s speech and Nazi Germany. And while most Nazi comparisons are exaggerated, these ones struck a little too close to home.

After all, while the president warns about fascism (or “semi-fascism,” whatever that is) in America, his administration is the one censoring people who disagree with it and trying to prosecute its political opponents, both flagrant violations of democratic norms. His administration is the one that, while claiming to crack down on Big Tech, works with it to punish dissenting voices and stifle debate. His administration is one that attacks its critics as terrorists, and which compares speech to violence. His administration is the one that felt bold enough to create a “disinformation” board within the Department of Homeland Security, an Orwellian concept that the world has not seen on such a large scale since those 1930s regimes that Biden says he hates.

These are not signs of a healthy democracy. They are not what Biden promised to deliver during his 2020 campaign or his inaugural address. Voters have noticed. Although the president’s approval rating stabilized during August, it still sits at a measly 42.1 percent in the RealClearPolitics average. It’s hard to see that number increasing after last week’s speech....

The saddest part is that most Americans want Biden to succeed. That is what drew so many of them, me included, to his campaign. They did not like the negative tone that Trump brought to the White House. They wanted compassionate, competent, bipartisan leadership, somebody with the confidence to thank Trump for his service and move on. Biden seemed the perfect fit.

I learned earlier than others that those were hollow promises, and that Biden is a shell of his former self — at this point, a puppet of the media and political establishment, both of which are obsessed with Trump. Hence last Thursday’s speech.

It’s comforting to know that at least some White House staffers reportedly worried about the speech. They should speak up more often. Or resign and speak out publicly. Voters need to know that there are professionals within the Democratic Party who do not agree with this administration’s descent into demagoguery. There are people who care less about political labels and more about finding common ground on the vast issues our society is facing at home and abroad, people who believe that the progress America made in the decades after World War II were good things and that, while not perfect, we have built the freest and most fair country in the history of the world, a country that is the perfect foil to the oppressive society created by the CCP in China.

I know these people exist because I speak with them privately. But that’s not sufficient. The next two elections will be the most important ones since the Civil War. They will decide whether America moves on from the toxic, divisive Trump/Biden era, to deal with the issues facing the 21st-century world or whether we face another four years of hatred, censorship, and political persecution.

There are some bright signs. Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro has already backtracked on his state’s Covid policies, saying its lockdown didn’t work and that this is an area “where folks got it wrong.” His comments may come too late for the businesses that the lockdown destroyed and the kids whose educations were impaired, but they at least show the open-mindedness that we need in our leaders. And they stand in stark contrast to comments from California Gov. Gavin Newsom, who started the lockdown fetish in America and who still stubbornly claims that he did everything right.

(Disclaimer: as a lawyer, I am litigating a case that seeks to require that Newsom end the statewide Covid-19 emergency that has been in place since March 2020.)

But it’s clear that Biden is not the answer and needs to go. Last week’s speech confirmed it.

Of course, it’s possible that the president will acknowledge the criticism and pivot. But I doubt it. There are still too many people in the media and political establishment who are obsessed with Trump and want to see him behind bars. It’s hard to ignore that echo chamber and it’s hard to pivot from calling your political opponents fascists who are a threat to the country itself.

Thus, expect the message to continue and to change only if Americans finally say enough and vote accordingly.

Wiping out 10k in student debt is not the most expensive part of the Biden student loan program. Most Federal student loans are now eligible for an income based repayment plan, under these plans students pay a small percentage of their “discretionary” income, say 10%, and then after a fixed number of years the debt is wiped off the student’s books. At first glance these plans don’t seem crazy, but as Matt Bruenig points out they create perverse incentives. Under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program, law graduates that go on to work in the public sector, which is a lot of them as the public sector employs many lawyers, only have to pay 10 percent of their discretionary income for 10 years in order to have their debt forgiven. Law schools figured out many years ago that, for a student who is planning to enroll in PSLF upon graduation, prices and debt loads don’t matter. Ten percent of your discretionary income is ten percent of your discretionary income regardless of what the law school charges you and how much debt you nominally have to take on. Law schools also realized that they could make the deal even sweeter by setting up LRAPs [repayment programs, AT] that give graduates money to cover the the modest repayments required by the PSLF.

The LRAP schemes work as follows:

The school increases their tuition.

The student takes out federal loans to cover the tuition increase.

The school squirrels away the debt-financed tuition increase into an LRAP fund.

The school disburses money from the LRAP fund to cover PSLF repayments.

Did you get that? Here’s a stylized example. Suppose a student will make 150k per year for 10 years working in the public sector. If they have 200k in debt they pay 15k every year to the government for 10 years and then 50k is “forgiven.” But now the law school comes to the student and says ‘heh, I have a deal which will make both of us better off. We are going to raise the price of law school to 400k but don’t worry not only won’t that cost you a penny more than the 15k a year you are already obligated to pay it will actually cost you much less because we will pay your payments of 15k per year!’ This indeed is a great deal for the student who pays nothing and it’s a great deal for the law school which gets 200k more revenue immediately in return for 150k of payments paid out over the following 10 years. Win-win! Except for the taxpayer of course. But wait there’s more. Student loans can be used not only to pay tuition and fees but also to pay “living expenses.” Thus, under these plans, students have an incentive to take out as big a loan as allowed in excess of tuition and fees because no matter how large the loan the student’s costs are zero! Lyman Stone has a good tweet thread giving many examples of how to game the system such as “Every student should borrow their maximum loan eligibility and then find some way to invest it illegally. My strategy would be: rent a wildly oversized apartment and sublet.” And here is a tweet thread from Michael Feinberg showing how even wealthy parents may be able to game the system.

Furthermore, the new Biden plan makes the income driven repayment schemes even more generous!

The IDR changes are four-fold:

Increase the amount of income not subject to IDR from 150 percent of the federal poverty line to 225 percent of the federal poverty line.

Reduce the interest rate on IDR-enrolled loans to 0 percent.

For undergraduate debt, reduce the IDR rate from 10 percent of income beyond the threshold in (1) to 5 percent of income beyond the threshold in (1).

For IDR-enrolled debts with original loan balances below $12,000, reduce the repayment period from 20 years to 10 years.

Essentially what this means is that every school will now have the possibility of using a law school like program to shift costs onto taxpayers. Thus Bruenig concludes:

…going forward, these new rules could quite radically alter the incentives of colleges and students when it comes to college prices, institutional financial aid, how much debt to take on, and how to approach repayment. Indeed, these programs are likely to be very expensive and the resulting increase in the price of tuition will lead to calls either to end the program or for price controls on education.

Michigan voters are calling out Democrat Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson over her claims that she bears no responsibility for a private funding operation that affected election processes leading up to the 2020 general election.

As part of a lawsuit brought by the Thomas More Society on behalf of Michigan voters, the reply brief filed on Aug. 30 addressed Benson’s claims that she is not personally responsible for allowing millions of dollars worth of private grants to flood the state during the 2020 election cycle “because ‘she did not personally hand out the money’ and that the courts have no authority to review her failure to follow Michigan law because the election scheme occurred in the 2020 general election.”

“Secretary Benson is wrong,” said Thomas More Society Special Counsel Thor Hearne. “This lawsuit does not seek to relitigate the results of the 2020 general election. Rather, it is about how futureMichigan elections are conducted and Secretary Benson’s responsibility to conduct elections according to Michigan’s Constitution and Election Code so that every Michigan voter has equal access to the ballot.”

Hearne also went on to debunk Benson’s claims that even if such a “private funding scheme is contrary to Michigan’s Constitution and Election Code, she is not responsible and, Michigan voters lack any judicial remedy to hold her accountable.”

Benson does not deny that “she is responsible for supervising Michigan elections and directing how Michigan — and other — election officials conduct the election,” Hearne said. “Nor does she deny that she was fully aware of and supported this private funding scheme. Secretary Benson is asking the court to overlook her responsibility and hold that, because she did not personally pay the money to election officials, she bears no responsibility.”

The lawsuit against Benson was originally filed by the Thomas More Society back in October 2020 in the Michigan Court of Claims over the state’s 2020 use of grants from the left-wing Center for Tech and Civic Life (CTCL), with the legal group alleging that the bid to utilize private grants in the conduction of an election “was intended to influence the election results and den[y] Michigan voters’ right of equal access to the ballot.”

The complaint also argues that “several Michigan election laws were violated when Secretary Benson allowed the use of illegal drop boxes, permitted illegal acquisition of ballot containers that facilitated ballot harvesting, and allowed election authorities to spend public funds for private purposes.”...

Given upwards of $400 million by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, CTCL was instrumental in quietly altering state and local election processes in the lead-up to the 2020 election. In Michigan alone, the group distributed “135 grants above the $5,000 minimum,” resulting in $16.8 million “Zuckbucks” being poured into localities across the state.

“Out of these grants just 45 of the recipient localities were won by Trump, while 90 were won by Biden. Together these 90 municipalities received $14.6 million or 86 percent of all CTCL funds in Michigan,” a Capital Research Center report found. “Meanwhile, Trump won municipalities overwhelmingly received CTCL’s minimum $5,000 grant, though some received even less.”

As detailed by Federalist Editor-in-Chief Mollie Hemingway in her New York Times bestselling book, “Rigged: How the Media, Big Tech, and the Democrats Seized Our Elections,” Zuckerberg’s financing of “liberal groups running partisan get-out-the-vote operations” such as CTCL and the Center for Election Innovation and Research (CEIR) was ultimately “the means by which [Democrat] activists achieved their ‘revolution’ and changed the course of the 2020 election.”

“It was a genius plan,” wrote Hemingway. “And because no one ever imagined that a coordinated operation could pull off the privatization of the election system, laws were not built to combat it.”

Federalist Contributor William Doyle further expanded upon the effects of CTCL and CEIR’s election funding last year, writing that the groups’ efforts “had nothing to do with traditional campaign finance,” but everything to do “with financing the infiltration of election offices at the city and county level by left-wing activists, and using those offices as a platform to implement preferred administrative practices, voting methods, and data-sharing agreements, as well as to launch intensive outreach campaigns in areas heavy with Democratic voters.”

“CTCL demanded the promotion of universal mail-in voting through suspending election laws, extending deadlines that favored mail-in over in-person voting, greatly expanding opportunities for ‘ballot curing,’ expensive bulk mailings, and other lavish ‘community outreach’ programs that were directed by private activists,” Doyle wrote.

As of September 2022, 24 states and five counties have passed laws banning or restricting public officials’ use of “Zuckbucks” and other private funds when conducting elections.

The second State Department review commenced with more fanfare in 2019 under Tillerson’s unscrupulous successor Mike Pompeo, who, it is worth noting, soon came under official scrutiny himself for gross and self-serving misuse of State Department resources. By then, the hypocrisy behind Republican indignation over “her emails” had been highlighted by massive, repeated security breaches in the Trump White House, where numerous officials , including Ivanka Trump, unlawfully used private email accounts and normal protective protocols were routinely flouted.

No doubt Pompeo, a veteran of the House Select Committee on Benghazi, hoped to find something, anything to arraign Clinton. But again, in the end, there was zero, zilch, nada. Although the second review began with a July 31, 2019 notice from State Department officials that they “suspected” Clinton might be responsible for 12 classified “spillages,” this investigation concluded nine weeks later that she did not “bear any individual culpability” for those incidents.

Again, the overarching absurdity of the State Department and FBI investigations lay in the fact that nearly all of the documents at issue had been classified retroactively – meaning they had carried no markings identifying them as such when Clinton handled them. Comey's assertion that documents can somehow be deemed inherently secret, without proper markings or any classification history whatsoever, is extremely dangerous and hostile to the concept of open democratic governance. It is an idea that should never have been entertained by a free press.

Nobody in their right mind would hold Clinton, or any official, to be culpable under those circumstances.

The same cannot be said for Trump in the current documents scandal, as must be obvious to anyone who has seen that photograph of the folders, clearly marked “TOP SECRET,” strewn around his office floor at Mar-a-Lago, or the folders emptied of their contents, who knows where.

Despite the hysterical accusations that persist to this day, Hillary Clinton was repeatedly judged to be innocent of jeopardizing national security, including twice by the Trump administration. It now appears frighteningly obvious that Donald Trump is not nearly so innocent.

RNC, Other Conservative Groups File Lawsuit Against Pennsylvania For Illegally Altering Ballots

The Republican National Committee (RNC) announced on Friday that it will lead a lawsuit against the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania over the issue of illegally “curing” ballots in elections, a process whereby election workers alter incomplete or unreadable ballots rather than treating them as the law requires.

“The RNC is joining with the NRSC, NRCC, Pennsylvania GOP, and concerned Pennsylvania voters to sue the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for unequal treatment of its citizens at the ballot box. Pennsylvania Democrats, led by Governor Tom Wolf, are unconstitutionally flouting the law by failing to adopt uniform rules for how elections in the Keystone State are run,” said RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel in a statement. “This lawsuit will ensure that Pennsylvania voters have confidence in their elections and underscores the Republican Party’s commitment to making it easier to vote and harder to cheat in Pennsylvania and nationwide.”

According to the RNC press release, the lawsuit seeks to challenge “the illegal and unfair practice of some [Pennsylvania] counties allowing voters to ‘cure’ defective mail ballots while others do not.”

“Pennsylvania law does not permit counties to contact voters and allow them to cure their ballots,” the document reads. “Many counties in Pennsylvania follow the law and do not allow for curing; however, others have implemented a curing process, largely in secrecy, that varies by county.”

Ballot curing is a process by which an election worker adds information to an absentee ballot that has a noticeable defect, such as missing personal information. The law does not allow for anyone but the voter to fill out a ballot. The law says mail-in ballots that are not filled out as legally required must be declared invalid rather than altered by election workers so they can be counted.

As noted in the lawsuit, “[i]n 2020, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court unanimously held that ‘the

Election Code provides procedures for casting and counting a vote by mail’ but does not provide for a notice and opportunity to cure procedure for a voter who fails to comply with the requirements for voting by mail or absentee.”

“The [Pennsylvania] Supreme Court further stated that ‘[t]o the extent that a voter is at risk of having his or her ballot rejected’ due to failure to comply with the Election Code’s signature and secrecy ballot requirements for mail-in and absentee ballots, ‘the decision to provide a “notice and opportunity to cure” procedure to alleviate that risk is one best suited for the Legislature,'” the lawsuit reads.

“It is the Pennsylvania legislature’s responsibility to uniformly enact these procedures and for them to apply across the state. The U.S. Constitution is clear that state legislatures should set the rules for how elections are run,” the RNC said.

Pennsylvania Democratic Gov. Tom Wolf has regularly blocked efforts by the state’s GOP-controlled legislature to bring transparency and security to state and local elections. Last year, Wolf vetoedlegislation that would have “mandated voter identification in all elections,” among “a host of other changes to election law.”

“Governor Tom Wolf has vetoed and opposed Pennsylvania Republican-led legislation to remedy [the issue of ballot curing],” the RNC said in conclusion. “Now, a coalition of Republican groups and concerned citizens are stepping in to protect and standardize Pennsylvania elections.”

Crossfire Hurricane agents never intended to drop their investigation of Donald Trump, and therefore any lies he told the FBI did not affect their decision-making, Igor Danchenko argued in a motion filed on Friday seeking dismissal of the criminal charges pending against him in a Virginia federal court. With the trial set to start next month, Special Counsel John Durham must now decide whether to acknowledge the deep state’s complicity or risk a second acquittal.

Durham charged Danchenko last year with five counts of making false statements to the FBI related to Danchenko’s role as Christopher Steele’s primary sub-source in the fake dossier the Hillary Clinton team peddled to the FBI and the media. According to the indictment, Danchenko lied extensively when he provided Steele with supposed intel, and then later made false representations to the FBI during a series of interviews.

One count of the indictment concerned Danchenko’s denial during an FBI interview on June 15, 2017, of having spoken with “PR Executive-1” about any material contained in the Steele dossier. According to Durham’s team, “PR Executive-1,” who has since been identified as the Clinton and DNC-connected Charles Dolan, Jr., told Danchenko that a “GOP friend” had told him Paul Manafort had been forced to resign from the Trump campaign because of allegations connecting Manafort to Ukraine.

“While Dolan later admitted to the FBI that he had no such ‘GOP friend’ and that he had instead gleaned this information from press reports, Dolan’s fabrication appeared in the Steele dossier.” But according to the indictment, when the FBI asked Danchenko whether he had talked with Dolan about that and other details included in Steele’s reports, Danchenko lied and said he hadn’t.

The four remaining counts of the indictment concerned Danchenko’s alleged lies during questioning by the FBI on March 16, May 18, October 24, and November 16, 2017, concerning conversations he supposedly had with Sergei Millian, who was the then-president of the Russian-American Chamber of Commerce. According to the indictment, Danchenko told FBI agents during those interviews that he believed Millian had provided him information during an anonymous phone call, including “intel” later included in the Steele dossier that there was “a well-developed ‘conspiracy of cooperation’ between the Trump Campaign and Russian officials.” However, no such call ever occurred, Durham’s team charged.

In seeking dismissal of these five counts, Danchenko’s attorneys argued in the motion to dismiss they filed on Friday that the government’s false statement charges failed as a matter of law because ambiguity in the FBI’s questions and in his own answers make it impossible to show he knowingly lied to the government. What proved more intriguing, however, was Danchenko’s second argument based on “materiality.” Here, in essence, Danchenko argued that his statements, even if knowingly false, could not create criminal liability because they were immaterial to the FBI’s investigation.

To support this argument, Danchenko notes that the FBI was already investigating Millian’s “potential involvement with Russian interference efforts long before it had ever interviewed or even identified Mr. Danchenko,” apparently based on Steele’s claim that Millian served “as the source of relevant information.” Accordingly, Danchenko maintains his supposed lies were not the reason the FBI targeted Millian.

Danchenko further emphasizes in his brief that Steele had falsely told the FBI that “Danchenko had reported meeting with [Millian] in person on multiple occasions.” Danchenko exposed Steele’s own lies by telling the FBI he had never met with Millian “and could not be sure he ever spoke to him,” Danchenko’s attorneys stress in their motion to dismiss, thus calling Steele’s “statements, and portions of the Company Reports, into question.” Yet, even after learning of Steele’s apparent lies, the FBI did not alter the course of the investigation and, in fact, continued to rely on Steele’s reporting to seek renewals of the FISA surveillance orders, Danchenko’s brief underscores to argue that nothing Danchenko said during his interviews really mattered to the FBI.

Because Danchenko’s statements failed to change the trajectory of the government’s investigation into Millian and more broadly Trump and his associates, Danchenko posits that “it is difficult to fathom how the government would have made any decision other than to continue investigating [Millian] … regardless of what Mr. Danchenko told them.” In other words, Danchenko’s alleged lies were immaterial.

As a matter of law, Millian’s materiality argument is weak, but as a matter of defense-attorney rhetoric, it holds the potential to score Danchenko an acquittal.

Potential for Acquittal

The legal standard for materiality requires a false statement to have “a natural tendency to influence, or [be] capable of influencing, either a discrete decision or any other function of the agency to which it is addressed.” Further, “the falsehood need not actually influence the agency’s decision-making process, but merely needs to be ‘capable’ of doing so.” Thus, legally speaking, that the Crossfire Hurricane team, and later Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s office, seemed unconcerned with what Danchenko said, as shown by their continued reliance on Steele and his dossier, is irrelevant. The question is whether the lie was capable of influencing how a hypothetically “objective” government official would have acted had they known the truth.

While Durham’s team will argue to the jury — assuming the district court denies Danchenko’s motion to dismiss the indictment — that the alleged lies were capable of influencing several decisions of the FBI agents, the reality is that the jurors will have a hard time buying that proposition unless Durham exposes the malfeasance of the Crossfire Hurricane agents and the members of Mueller’s team. In short, Durham needs to tell the jury that Danchenko’s alleged lies did not actually influence the government’s investigation because the agents were out to get Trump.

If the Special Counsel’s office does not take this tack, what the jury will hear is the story Danchenko previewed in his motion to dismiss:

“During the course of its investigation into the [Steele dossier], the FBI determined that the defendant, Igor Danchenko, was a potential source of information contained in the [dossier]. In order to assist the FBI in its investigation of the accuracy and sources of the information in the [dossier], Mr. Danchenko agreed to numerous voluntary interviews with the FBI from in or about January 2017 through November 2017. He answered every question he was asked to the best of his ability and recollection. As part of the 2017 interviews, FBI agents asked Mr. Danchenko to review portions of the [dossier] and describe where he believed the relevant information had derived from and to explain how any information he had provided to [Steele] may have been overstated or misrepresented in the [dossier].”

Danchenko did as the FBI asked, his defense will argue to the jury, before stressing that even after Danchenko highlighted Steele’s lies to the bureau, agents continued to investigate Millian. This fact will serve as a lynchpin for Danchenko to argue that his statements, even if false, were immaterial.

A Likely Argument

In his motion to dismiss, Danchenko previewed another argument likely to be repeated at trial, namely that no one thought Danchenko lied until the appointment of a second special counsel. “The Special Counsel’s office closed its entire investigation into possible Trump/Russia collusion in March 2019,” Danchenko noted in his motion, stressing that while “approximately thirty-four individuals were charged by Mueller’s office, including several for providing false statements to investigators. Mr. Danchenko was not among them. To the contrary, not only did investigators and government officials repeatedly represent that Mr. Danchenko had been honest and forthcoming in his interviews, but also resolved discrepancies between his recollection of events and that of others in Mr. Danchenko’s favor.”

While these arguments are currently aimed at the court, a repeat will surely follow during next month’s trial, and unless Durham provides the jury with an explanation for the FBI and Mueller’s lack of concern over Danchenko’s statements to investigators, an acquittal seems likely.

Durham’s Strategy

We won’t have to wait until the start of the trial to learn Durham’s likely strategy, however, as the government’s response to Danchenko’s motion to dismiss will likely provide some strong hints, especially given some of the assertions included in Danchenko’s brief. For instance, in his summary of the facts, Danchenko claimed, based on the DOJ’s inspector general report, that there was an “articulable factual basis” to launch Crossfire Hurricane based on “information received from a Friendly Foreign Government.” The “information received from a Friendly Foreign Government” refers to then-Australian diplomat Alexander Downer’s claim that Trump campaign adviser George Papadopoulos made suggestions that the Russians could assist the Trump campaign with the release of damaging information about Clinton.

Those well-versed in the Russia-collusion hoax will remember that Durham has already publicly pushed back against the Inspector General’s claim that Downer’s tip prompted the launching of Crossfire Hurricane. Durham released a statement following the publication of the IG report contradicting the IG’s assertion and revealing that “based on the evidence collected to date,” his team had “advised the Inspector General that we do not agree with some of the report’s conclusions as to predication and how the FBI case was opened.”

Another passage in Danchenko’s brief could similarly prompt pushback by Durham. Relying again on the inspector general’s report on FISA abuse, Danchenko asserts that there is “no evidence the [Steele] election reporting was known to or used by FBI officials involved in the decision to open the Crossfire Hurricane investigation.”

Two years have passed since the IG issued its report, however, and during that time Durham has been continuing to investigate the claimed predication of Crossfire Hurricane. If his team found evidence that Steele’s reporting prompted the launch of Crossfire Hurricane, Danchenko’s motion provides a perfect opportunity for Durham to publicly reveal that evidence.

Whether Durham will reveal these details and others remains to be seen. And while the special counsel’s office used pretrial court filings in the criminal case against former Clinton campaign attorney Michael Sussmann to pepper the public with new revelations about the Russia-collusion hoax, the lead prosecutor in that case, Andrew DeFilippis, is no longer prosecuting the case against Danchenko. We should know soon whether Durham, who is now personally involved in the Danchenko prosecution, will use the case to expose more details about SpyGate.

Durham has already filed his first motion in limine, or a pretrial request for the court to rule on the admissibility of evidence, in the Danchenko case. That motion, however, concerns classified information and was thus sealed. The special counsel will likely be filing several more motions in limine in the weeks to come, with the court last week entering an order encouraging the parties to file those motions “as early as possible,” but no later than October 3, 2022, absent good cause.

Those motions, as well as Durham’s response to Danchenko’s motion to dismiss, will provide some insight into the special counsel’s planned strategy in the Danchenko case and specifically whether the special counsel will highlight the complicity of the deep state in the Russia-collusion hoax. If Durham doesn’t, it might cost his team a second loss.

In an interview with Pharmacy Times, Francesca Ceddia, MD, senior vice president of respiratory vaccines at Moderna, said the company is in early stages of development for a combined mRNA vaccine for influenza, COVID-19, and RSV. Such a vaccine could prove effective, while also improving vaccine rates.

Aislinn Antrim: Excitingly, Moderna is also developing a new combination respiratory vaccine candidate against SARS-CoV-2, influenza, and RSV. So where does this work currently stand?

Francesca Ceddia, MD: So, currently it is preclinical, but by the end of the year we will be able to start a phase 1 clinical trial. And we have observed in preclinical results a very strong immune response against all the antigens. So, this is very encouraging. And we have also started a combination COVID and flu [vaccine], which is clearly very relevant, particularly when it comes to the fall season. And then, you know, we will progress more and more into additional combinations. That's another important feature of mRNA vaccines, particularly our mRNA platform, which allows for including more and more antigens in combination.

Aislinn Antrim: Absolutely. And how would such a combination vaccine change the immunization landscape for people?

Francesca Ceddia, MD: Well, imagine that if you have to go to the doctor and get a shot, that’s either 2 shots in 2 different arms, or you can get 1 shot in the same arm. I think we would all want to have a combination vaccine, right? And this is quite typical in the pediatric space, because the majority of the pediatric vaccines are vaccines in combination, to avoid giving too many injections to children who have to be up to date with a number of vaccines. So, having, for example, a COVID [and] flu vaccine or COVID, flu, [and] RSV vaccine, also in adults who are less familiar with vaccination, then younger children, is a major advantage in adherence to vaccination. And, and therefore, I mean, we have the opportunity to tackle 2 diseases or 3 diseases at the same time. That will be quite brilliant.

The FBI Exposed

One man’s experience demonstrates how the FBI needs to be exposed for what it has become and how it has betrayed the nation and its very own motto.

It saddens many of us that the FBI, unfortunately, has become more akin to the KGB than the independent and efficient arm of the Department of Justice it was intended to be. To the surprise and horror of the American people, among it’s many failures, the FBI has repeatedly failed to protect Americans (remember 9/11) and the U.S. Constitution. The motto of the FBI is “Fidelity, Bravery, Integrity,” which has become a farce. The truth is we no longer trust the FBI.

It is hardly surprising now to hear many conservative and law-abiding people, as well as some brave political leaders, say the FBI should be broken up. Its abilities could be reassigned, in parts, to other federal agencies or cut from appropriations altogether. It could be radically downsized. It may be the only way to deal with what has become an extrajudicial, politicized, and rogue agency—totally out of control and lacking oversight. It seems every day we get more and more evidence to that effect—and there are whistleblowers galore.

My Personal Experience with the FBI

I have had only one set of dealings with the FBI. On March 27, 2018 I flew on a long international flight into Boston’s Logan International airport. I was to connect to a domestic flight enroute to my in-law’s house, just outside of Cleveland, Ohio for the Easter holidays.

After exiting the plane, I was escorted to a special line for passport control. There, I was formally detained and asked to wait, along with my wife who was traveling with me. They would not say why, and I found it most curious as I was a frequent flier and went back and forth between the United States, U.K., and Europe and elsewhere many times a year. I never had such treatment.

After about 20 minutes left waiting, we were taken by a TSA official and an FBI agent to a separate hall where they thoroughly checked my suitcase and asked about any electronic devices, phones, or computers I had in my possession.

This all seemed very foreboding and I have never experienced anything like this before, unless you include trips to Communist China or in the old world to eastern bloc countries as a diplomat.

What’s going on, I thought?

When they found nothing suspicious and would not answer my questions about why they were detaining me, they separated me from my wife and told her to wait in a lounge, without explanation, while I was to be interviewed. That is all they said. Naturally, this left her in a state of total confusion and near panic.

What had I done? Why me? Why this arrangement and detention?

I was then escorted to another building and into a secure conference room with padded walls where two FBI agents introduced themselves to me. They said I was being detained to answer questions regarding the Department of Justice Special Counsel probe and showed me their identification and badges.

They seemed to know everything about me and had my color photograph and personal details and said in intimidating ways that it was a felony to lie to the FBI. I stated that I realized that, and I would readily, in fact gladly, cooperate with them. They never allowed me to call my attorney.

I did, however, find it objectionable to be treated in that way, as I was entering my home country, where I am a citizen and have served at the highest levels of government. They did not need to use such tactics or intimidation. I am a United States patriot and would do anything and everything to assist the government and I had no information that I believed was relevant.

They asked for my cell phone and any laptop (I didn’t have a computer on me) and produced a document, marked “warrant” in bold print, to seize it and perform forensics on it. I signed permission and asked if at least I could keep my drivers’ license and credit cards. They said yes, and they gave them back to me. They then demanded the code to open the phone and I was told I would be held in contempt, if I did not offer it. One of the agents took the phone into another back room and downloaded items but returned to say they would need to keep it and take it to Washington, D.C. for a full assessment. I asked when I could get it back. They assured me in a few days they would definitely get it to me—one way or another.That did not happen. It took months and it was altered.

The other agent then proceeded just short of about two hours to interrogate me and involved himself in various disarming chit-chat about my career, sterling academic credentials, top-secret codeword government clearances from an earlier era, and my being a fan of the championship Philadelphia Eagles. All well and good, I presumed. What did they really want? Why me? And why in this underhanded fashion? What had I done? I should state at this point, and they knew it, that I had taken both the month-long course on intelligence and the two week one on negotiation, when I was at the Department of State during the Reagan Administration, given by the Foreign Service Institute. I knew their game.

The questions got more detailed about my involvement in the Trump campaign (which was informal and unpaid); whom I communicated with, the whole list; whom I knew and how well—they had a very long list of names, starting with Steve Bannon and running the gamut.

They seemed to then focus more attention on Roger Stone (whom I have met a grand total of three times and only briefly and in company); Jerome Corsi, a journalist who had been the acquiring editor of a memoir I had written some years ago; and about Wikileaks, about which I knew nothing.

“Had I ever visited the Ecuadorian embassy in London?” they asked again, and again. They were trying to break me down and catch me up, which is a very old and tested interrogation technique.

No, I replied truthfully. They already knew that and surely had all the CCTV tapes from that very place.

I was unfazed and very dubious about why they thought I knew anything. I couldn’t help but wonder: had they read a copy of my soon-to-be-released book, The Plot to Destroy Trump: How the Deep State Fabricated the Russian Dossier to Subvert the President? The timing of this interrogation along with the nearing publication date just days off, seems to me to suggest, yes, they had read it. Closely, and with a fine-tooth comb.

Then they served me with a subpoena, which I noticed had only been issued that very day by an Obama appointed magistrate, not a judge, in Boston. I was to appear before the Mueller grand jury in Washington, D.C. that Friday. They said I could telephone the lead attorney on that team, Aaron Zelinsky, and make necessary arrangements.

They shook my hand and had agents take me to my wife, who was very alarmed and in disbelief. They then escorted us to the adjoining terminal to catch our delayed domestic flight. I have to believe they delayed it.

I called the special counsel’s office the next morning and they said it would be better to appear later, which we agreed would be April 13 and they would pay for my travel, room and board. I told them I had legal representation and asked that they establish contact. For the record, that excellent counsel, over months and months,ended up costing me about $60,000.

The deep state was sending a signal and had no doubt read my detailed book which implicated them. They wanted to intimidate me and knew well that I had no connection whatsoever to Julian Assange.

What could they want from me, a professor—a policy wonk, and philosophical defender of conservatism and Trump? Well, I had endorsed him in a 2015 Forbes article, saying we needed another TR and the economic nationalism that made America great.

I am not and have never been an operative, have no Russian contacts, and—aside from appearing on air and in print often to defend and congratulate our Donald J. Trump—have done nothing wrong. What message does this send? I will tell you—stay clear of Trump and all things Trump or the globalists and deep state will get you as they say, “seven ways to Sunday.”
