US Senate ready to review $52 bln in semiconductor funding
The US Senate is prepared to review a semiconductor chips bill very soon with the aim to help raise American competitiveness, Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Wednesday.
The Senate voted by a large margin to start the debate on legislation to give more than $52 billion in grants to the US semiconductor industry.
"With this package, the United States returns to its status as a world leader in the manufacturing of semiconductor chips," she said in a press release, adding that this is "an economic necessity to lower costs for consumers and to win in the 21st-century economy, as well as a national security imperative as we seek to reduce our dependence on foreign manufacturers."
Aside from initiatives to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) research and development, the Chips Act for the US includes what Pelosi called "strong guardrails", including banning firms from using funds awarded through the act for stock buybacks or dividend payments and companies who received federal financial support from engaging in particular expansions of semiconductor manufacturing in countries of concern.
These firms are also requested to inform the Department of Commerce of any plans for significant transactions that may breach the agreement. Congress will keep tight control over federal funds that support the domestic production of semiconductors.
The Senate held on Tuesday a procedural vote to advance the bill and approve it "as early as next week."

The larger climate change objective is to “transition” the global food supply away from cows, pigs and chickens, and toward a more sustainable lifestyle of eating insects and bugs. Farmers in North American and Europe are facing massive regulatory changes as part of the Build Back Better or Green New Deal initiatives.
In the U.S. Joe Biden has pledged his entire administration effort toward the goal of reducing U.S. carbon emissions and protecting the planet. Part of that initiative includes the need to change the diet of Americans away from traditional farm proteins, and toward sustainable alternatives via bugs and/or insects like cockroaches, crickets and grasshoppers.
A comprehensive marketing, branding and image campaign is underway to change the public perception toward an acceptance of sustainable algae and bugs as food sources. Public Broadcasting (PBS) is part of that imitative:
Several U.S. food manufacturers now include insects and bugs as part of their ingredient list. It would be worthwhile checking the labels on the latest snack foods to identify the percentages of worms and bugs that may be included in your favorite salted snack.
Additionally, a significant investment has taken place in Canada where they are now generating 9,000 metric tons of crickets to replace traditional protein sources (link). The public/private partnership in London, Ontario, is now shipping crickets for use by North American food manufacturers. There has been minimal public pushback against the effort and the government appears to be fast-tracking insects as food alternatives for global shortages of grain and meats.

Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) announced Tuesday he is no longer a candidate for New York’s tenth congressional district. He withdrew after two months campaigning, lamenting it’s clear “people are looking for another option.”
The Democrat was running in a crowded primary for a deep-blue congressional district that includes his Brooklyn home and parts of southern Manhattan, as Breitbart News reported.
If successful, the determined leftist would have replaced Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY) in the district, which was recently redrawn under the supervision of a New York judge.
“I’ve listened really carefully to people and it’s clear to me that when it comes to this congressional district, people are looking for another option. And I respect that,” de Blasio said in a video posted online Tuesday.
His campaign was launched months after his tenure as mayor ended and was the latest attempt by de Blasio to further his national political ambitions, as AP reports.
De Blasio admitted in a recent Atlantic op-ed that he was an “unpopular” politician and made his “fair share of mistakes.”
“And when it comes to being unpopular, I’m unfortunately somewhat of an expert. I made my fair share of mistakes,” the former mayor wrote.
He considered running for governor of New York but opted not to challenge incumbent Democrat Kathy Hochul.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has derided Coca-Cola and suggested that ‘Ivan Tea’ – a medicinal brew made from Siberian fireweed – is a more “useful” refreshment. Coca-Cola pulled out of the Russian market in June over Moscow’s military operation in Ukraine.
Participating in the ‘Strong Ideas for New Times’ forum in Moscow on Wednesday, Putin was approached by Alexander Khlynov from the Union of Ivan Tea Producers, who proposed the government help boost production of the traditional Russian drink.
Putin agreed to bring Khlynov’s proposal to Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev, and gave the tea his personal approval. “Indeed, it is certainly more useful than Coca-Cola,” he remarked, “which is all chemicals.”
‘Ivan Tea’ is made from the fermented leaves of the fireweed plant. Enjoyed for both its refreshing taste and its medicinal properties, it is a natural anti-inflammatory beverage, contains 16 amino acids, and is packed with vitamins B and C. Outside Russia, fireweed is consumed in the Canadian Yukon, where its flowers are made into jelly, and in the US Pacific Northwest, where honey produced from its pollen is highly regarded.
Putin’s comments on Coca-Cola came after the American beverage giant announced last month that it would withdraw from the Russian market in response to Russia’s ongoing military offensive in Ukraine. The pullout followed similar moves by other iconic Western brands, including Starbucks and McDonald’s.
The Russian president is not the only world leader to denigrate the sugary soft drink. Despite reportedly consuming up to a dozen cans of Diet Coke a day, former US President Donald Trump quipped on Twitter in 2012 that he had “never seen a thin person drinking Diet Coke,” before suggesting that “the more Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, etc you drink, the more weight you gain?”
While Diet Coke contains less than a single calorie per can, Trump concluded in yet another tweet that “this stuff just doesn’t work. It makes you hungry.” Finally, after apparently receiving some backlash from the company, Trump later tweeted “The Coca Cola company is not happy with me – that’s okay, I’ll still keep drinking that garbage.”

After releasing the trailer for the upcoming “Monster High: the Movie,” Nickelodeon is facing tremendous criticism for using pronouns to introduce the LGBT characters.
“”Monster High: the Movie” is an upcoming American, Canadian-produced live-action musical film based on Mattel’s Monster High franchise, which was created by Garrett Sander,” as stated by Monster High fandom. “It is directed by Todd Holland with a teleplay written by Jenny Jaffe, Billy Eddy and Matt Eddy from a story by Jaffe, Greg Erb and Jason Oremland.”
The woke movie is scheduled to be released on both Nickelodeon and Paramount+ on October 6.
In the sneak peek, two of the characters introduced themselves using their respective pronouns. Frankie Stein, a nonbinary, refers to herself as they/them, while Clawdeen Wolf, a lesbian character, refers to herself as she/her.
This is not the first time that Nickelodeon has been criticized for its controversial and woke programming choices.
The Gateway Pundit previously reported that Nickelodeon was facing backlash after releasing a video of a creepy drag queen singing about Pride in front of a trans flag.
Of course, with this one, Nickelodeon went too far for many parents, one of whom asked “is this the slippery slope I was told not to worry about?”

Rand Paul: "Senate Just Rejected My Attempt To Reaffirm The Constitution"
Senator Rand Paul warned Tuesday that the Senate “shockingly” rejected his efforts to reaffirm the Constitution as far as declarations of war go, noting that NATO does not have the authority to supersede Congress in the U.S.
Paul’s comments came after the Senate Foreign Relations Committee backed the accession of Finland, Sweden to NATO ahead of a full vote in the Senate on its expansion, the first of its kind for three decades, which could happen next week.
While other members of the committee verbally voted with a ‘yes’ or ‘no’, Paul voted a neutral “present”.
Paul proposed an amendment that would emphasise only the U.S. Congress has the right to declare war under the Constitution.
However, it was immediately REJECTED by the committee.
Paul took to Twitter to voice his displeasure:
Russia has repeatedly warned both Sweden and Finland against joining NATO, promising it will lead to further confrontation.
Committee’s chairman, Democratic Senator Bob Menendez said in a statement “As US foreign policy priorities evolve to account for a changing world, what is self-evident is the future of the transatlantic partnership will be even more intertwined and integrated thanks to Putin’s recklessness.”

A New York judge on Wednesday ordered Trump’s former personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani to testify before a Georgia grand jury.
In January Fulton County Georgia District Attorney Fani Willis requested a special grand jury in her investigation into former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn Georgia’s fraudulent 2020 election results.
Fani Willis based her investigation on President Trump’s call with Georgia officials that was later doctored and leaked to the fake news outlet Washington Post. Again — Willis and her handlers are investigating a now-infamous call between former President Trump and Sec. of State Brad Raffensperger, in which Trump pressured the Georgia SOS to uncover what he insisted was fraud that would overturn Georgia’s election results.
The infamous phone call between Trump and Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger was recorded by Raffensperger and his office. Raffensperger’s team then leaked and lied about it to the far left Washington Post.
In May local news reported that a grand jury has been selected to investigate Fani Willis’s junk charges against President Trump.
A judge has now ordered Trump’s personal lawyer to testify before a grand jury.

A New York judge has ordered Rudy Giuliani to testify before the Georgia special grand jury hearing evidence in an investigation into possible 2020 election interference by former President Donald Trump and others, court filings show.
The order came after Giuliani, who was Trump’s personal attorney, failed to appear at a July 13 hearing before the judge to challenge a subpoena for his testimony in the investigation.
“There is evidence that [Giuliani’s] appearance and testimony at the hearing was part of a multi-state, coordinated plan by the Trump Campaign to influence the results of the November 2020 election in Georgia and elsewhere,” the subpoena said.

China tells US to stop plundering Syria
The United States must stop siphoning oil and grain out of Syria and make up for the damage caused by its military presence on Syrian soil, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said Wednesday.
"The US must … immediately lift unilateral sanctions on Syria, stop plundering Syrian national resources and take concrete steps to compensate Syrians for the damage," Wang Wenbin told a press briefing.
The US occupation forces remain largely in control of oil and grain-rich areas in northeastern Syria, according to Wang.
Syrian state media has accused over and over again US and SDF armed groups of smuggling resources to Iraq and then siphoning them out of there.
The United States has been for years supporting SDF militias against Damascus, and the US-backed forces are currently controlling parts of the provinces of Al-Haskah, Deir Ezzor, and Raqqa, where the largest Syrian oil and gas fields are located. The actions carried out by the United States constitute state piracy with the aim of plundering Syria's oil resources.
On May 16, the US-led "international coalition" began a new repositioning process in Syria, roughly two and a half years after former President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw from Syria, which he later retracted and deployed instead his oil-thirsty occupation forces in areas where oil and gas fields are found.
Syrian civilians have long been resisting the US occupation of their country, with locals preventing US military convoys from entering their cities and villages all over Syria.
