Miss Brazil Gleycy Correia dead at 27 after routine tonsil surgery
A former beauty queen from Brazil was laid to rest Tuesday after dying a day earlier from complications due to a routine tonsil surgery, according to multiple media reports.
Gleycy Correia, 27, Miss United Continents Brazil 2018, died after having been in a coma for two months.
She had reportedly suffered massive bleeding and a heart attack only days after having had surgery to remove her tonsils.

"She had surgery to remove her tonsils and after five days at home, she had a haemorrhage." said family priest Lidiane Alves Oliveira told The Mirror.
"She went to Unimed and had a cardiac arrest on April 4 and since then she was in a coma, with no neurological activity. Today she passed away."

The mayor of a town in Texas was arrested for online solicitation of a child, a report said.
Pilot Point Mayor Matt McIlravy was charged with a second-degree felony for the offense, according to KTVT-TV.
The mayor, who is also a teacher, was busted by a Dallas Police undercover operation, the station said.
McIlravy is a married father of two boys that works as a design engineer and also serves as a men’s prayer meeting leader, according to his government profile.
He was recently elected mayor of the city of less than 4,000 north of Dallas. His Facebook campaign page did not list a political affiliation.

Sheriff Grady Judd of Polk Country, Florida warned parents that Walt Disney World is run by pedophiles and predators during an interview with WKMG-TV on Sunday, while announcing the results of Operation Child Predator II, which was conducted by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Auburndale Police Department and Winter Haven Police Department.
“What would an operation be — either a pornography investigation or predator operation or human trafficking operation — without a Disney employee? Two Canadians Found Dead with Throats Slashed in Mexico Resort of Playa Del Carmen
Quintana Roo – Two Canadians were found dead with their throats slashed in Mexico’s Playa del Carmen, state officials said on Tuesday.
The couple was found dead at a hotel condominium and a security guard was injured, Quintana Roo state prosecutors said.
The deceased male was on Interpol’s wanted list for fraud.
ABC News reported:
Prosecutors in Quintana Roo state, also home to resorts like Cancun and Tulum, said the man and the woman were found dead Monday at a hotel or condominium in the troubled resort, and a third person was reported injured.
There was no immediate information on their names or hometowns. “Global Affairs Canada is aware of the death of two Canadian citizens in Mexico,” the ministry said in a statement.
But prosecutors confirmed the male victim was on an Interpol wanted list for fraud charges.
News of the executed couple comes as violence in Mexico’s resort towns of Tulum and Cancun explode.
Cartel violence has spilled over into the tourist resorts along Mexico’s Caribbean coast.
Last October two travel bloggers visiting Tulum were caught in the crossfire of rival gangs and died.
A fierce shootout just north of Playa del Carmen left at least two drug dealers dead last November, AP reported.

The suspects communicated with and solicited who they thought were children online. Four suspects showed up to an undercover location in Polk County at separate times to meet who they thought were children, to sexually batter them. Detectives obtained warrants for eight other suspects who were arrested and booked into jails in their respective counties. Additional suspects were charged via warrant after transmitting pornographic images and/or grooming and soliciting the children online; they are still at-large in Florida and detectives are actively looking for them.
In all, detectives arrested 12 suspects, who face a total of 49 felony charges. Their combined criminal histories include 22 felonies and 31 misdemeanor charges. The youngest suspect arrested is 20 years old, and the oldest suspect is 67 years old.
Of the suspects who traveled to the location to have sex with a child, one suspect brought condoms, one has a criminal history, and two told detectives they were married. They were all from the central Florida area.
Of the suspects who had warrants, all of them sent sexually explicit images and/or videos to who they thought were 13, 14, and 15-year-old girls. Two of the suspects are from out of state and are in custody there, in Michigan and Alabama. Three of these suspects have criminal histories.

According to Forbes, Ukrainian forces are set to receive an uncrewed ground vehicle (UGV) called "GNOM" that is no bigger than a standard microwave and weighs around 110lbs.
GNOM isn't radio-controlled and has a 2,000 meter (1.25 mile) spool of fiber-optic cable mounted on the rear that offers operators a jam-proof way to control it on the modern battlefield without being detected or signal jammed by Russian electronic warfare equipment.
"Control of GNOM is possible in the most aggressive environment during the operation of the enemy's electronic warfare equipment.
"The operator doesn't deploy a control station with an antenna, and does not unmask his position. The cable is not visible, and it also does not create thermal radiation that could be seen by a thermal imager," said Eduard Trotsenko, CEO and owner of Temerland, the maker of the GNOM.

Matt McIlravy, who was recently elected Mayor of Point Pilot, Texas, was arrested for online solicitation of a child, according to KTVT-TV. The mayor, who is also a teacher, has been charged with a second-degree felony.
The 42-year-old was arrested on June 21 as a result of an undercover operation conducted by the Dallas Police Department. Point Pilot is located north of Dallas.
Law enforcement officials said their ongoing investigation revealed other communications with minors who have not been identified at this time, KTVT-TV reported.
The small-town Texas mayor is a married father of two boys that works as a design engineer and also serves as a men’s prayer meeting leader, the New York Post reported. His city government profile has since been scrubbed.
He was elected mayor of the town of roughly 4,000 this past May. The Point Pilot mayor does not have a listed political affiliation on his campaign Facebook page.

Former Australian of the Year Grace Tame is calling on the federal government to close a legal loophole that allows paedophiles to quarantine their superannuation from sexual abuse survivors.
Under the current rules, victims of crime who launch civil action for compensation against their perpetrators cannot access any funds held in the offender's superannuation accounts.
"Paedophiles are able to hide their assets in their super, which should be available to compensate survivors of abuse," she said.
"What this means is that the liability is on the taxpayer to fund the compensation of survivors.
"What needs to change is that paedophiles should be responsible for compensating their victims."
Victims' advocate Howard Brown said the issue came to light in 2017, when the victims of convicted Bega Valley paedophile Maurice Van Ryn discovered they would be unable to access hundreds of thousands of dollars he had in superannuation through a civil compensation claim.
"We found that [Van Ryn] was virtually [penniless] as he had placed all his funds into his superannuation account," Mr Brown said.
"And [Van Ryn] basically said to us: 'Everything I have is in my superannuation account, and you can't touch that.'
"And of course, he was correct – we couldn't."

Former Olympic swim coach Dick Caine charged over historical sexual abuse allegations
Renowned swimming coach Dick Caine has been charged over the alleged sexual abuse of young teenage athletes he was training.
The 76-year-old was arrested at a home in Condell Park, in Sydney's south-west, about 7am today and taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he was charged with nine offences.
The charges relate to the alleged abuse of two teenage students at a swim school at Carss Park, in Sydney's south, in the 1970s.
The first report was made by a woman last January who said she was targeted while she was a student at a swim school in the mid-1970s.
Strike Force Coco was established by officers from Kings Cross and the investigation uncovered further allegations of another teenage girl being abused at the same swim school.
Acting Superintendent Chris Nicholson from NSW Police said police will allege the girls were aged 16 and 17 at the time of the alleged offences.
He said the alleged assaults took place "in a number of locations in and around the southern Sydney area".
"I want to stress that these allegations are very serious but the investigation is ongoing," Nicholson added.
Caine has been charged with nine offences - six counts of carnal knowledge by a teacher of a girl aged 10-17, and three counts of indecent assault.
He has been refused bail and will face court later today.
Nicholson also spoke about the "courage and bravery" of the alleged victims, and had a message for other survivors.
"I would like to say to all survivors of sexual abuse living in our community that the NSW Police Force wants to listen to your story," he said.
"What today should show is that whether the NSW Police Force receives an allegation of sexual violence that occurred yesterday, or last week, or last year or 50 years ago, that we will investigate all matters that come to our attention with our full potential and we will wrap our full support around victim-survivors as they tell their story."

President of Mexico has offered sanctuary to jailed WikiLeaks publisher
WikiLeaks co-founder Julian Assange has been treated “very unfairly” to the shame of the entire world, and Mexico has offered to take him in, President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador told reporters on Tuesday. He said he would bring up Assange’s case with his US counterpart Joe Biden when they meet in July.
The UK announced last week it would extradite the jailed journalist to the US, where he faces espionage charges and up to 175 years behind bars if convicted. The decision by UK Home Secretary Priti Patel was “very disappointing,” said Lopez, who also goes by his initials AMLO.
He also said he intends to ask Biden to drop charges against Assange when they meet next month. Such an action would go counter to the “hardliners in the US” but “humanity must prevail,” AMLO added.
What about freedoms? Are we going to remove the Statue of Liberty from New York?
“Julian Assange is the best journalist of our time in the world and he has been treated very unfairly, worse than a criminal,” AMLO said. “This is a shame for the world.”
Mexico is willing to provide Assange sanctuary if and when he is released, the president added, reminding reporters that he had called on the previous US administration to drop charges against Assange as “a prisoner of conscience.”
Assange, an Australian citizen, sought asylum in Ecuador in 2012, suspecting that Washington wanted him arrested and extradited over WikiLeaks publishing the documents about US wars in Iraq and Afghanistan in 2010. He spent the next seven years trapped at Ecuador’s embassy in London – as the UK refused him safe passage – until his asylum was revoked by a new US-friendly government in Quito.
British police dragged Assange out of the embassy in April 2019 and put him in the maximum-security Belmarsh prison in south London, where he remains to this day. Within a month of his arrest, the US unsealed an indictment charging him of offenses under the Espionage Act, for which he could face 175 years in prison. Assange has denied all allegations, and a key witness in Washington’s case against him admitted he lied in his testimony.
Canberra has not spoken up for Assange’s release, even though the recently elected Prime Minister Anthony Albanese had opposed the charges against the journalist during the election campaign. Albanese said Monday that he still believed Assange should go free, but that his government would not publicly intervene with the US on his behalf, because it “engages diplomatically and appropriately with our partners.”

VATICAN CITY (RNS) — While concerns regarding Pope Francis’ health have fueled rumors he might soon resign, Brazilian bishops told Vatican media outlets on Monday (June 20) that the pope intends to continue in his role as head of the Catholic Church “for as long as God allows it.”
Archbishop Roque Paloschi of Porto Velho said the pope reassured him during a visit at the Vatican on Monday that despite the many challenges the pope faces, resigning “does not cross his mind,” according to an article published by Vatican News.
Seventeen bishops from Brazil will meet with the pope this month for traditional “ad limina” visits, obligatory consultations that bishops from around the world make on a rotating five-year schedule.

We know that in the FBI-orchestrated “Whitmer Kidnapping Plot,” just three months before January 6, key FBI informants received text messages from handlers to “maximize attendance” of the patsies at locations where their presence would be construed as an “overt act” in furtherance of a conspiracy (“agreement” and “overt act” are the two legal elements of a federal conspiracy charge).
Congressional Republications must now demand the phone records and full and complete account of Ray Epps’s relationship with the federal government. Subpoenas should be flying at Sean Kaul, the Special Agent-in-Charge of the Phoenix FBI Field Office, faster than Merrick Garland can run from an honest question.
January 6 defense lawyers: you must seek court-ordered subpoenas for discovery production related to the federal government’s records on such individuals as Ray Epps and ScaffoldCommander. If Ray Epps is a Fed, and your client walked through the Peace Monument gate or was induced to trespass because of the Big Bang Breach Team’s booby trap, you have an entrapment case and a potential affirmative defense. The Justice Department is legally required under Brady to provide you with all potentially exculpatory evidence related to that defense, and you should be prepared to play tapes of Ray Epps to the jury showing how the riot started in the first place.

Scientists Studying Temperature at Which Humans Spontaneously Die With Increasing Urgency
"Wet-bulb" conditions are when heat and humidity can cause otherwise healthy humans to overheat and die. They're happening more often than ever.
Last week’s historic heatwave saw portions of the Northwest breaking all-time temperature records and gearing up for wildfire risk. The temperatures are now being attributed to an excess of 100 deaths across the region as it gears up for another week of extreme highs.
The heat can feel apocalyptic, and scientists are increasingly studying the heat and humidity conditions at which some humans suddenly die, a phenomenon that is becoming increasingly common as a result of extreme weather driven by climate change. This is perhaps best illustrated in a study published last year in Science Advances, alarmingly titled "The emergence of heat and humidity too severe for human tolerance."
Originally, conditions like this weren't expected until the mid 21st century, according to climate models. But they are actually already here. In that study, Radley Horton, Lamont Research Professor at Columbia University’s Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory and co-authors surveyed weather station data from across the world, collected between 1979 and 2017, and found over 7,000 instances of so-called "wet bulb" conditions, which can lead to human deaths. Wet bulb temperature is the point at which humidity and heat hit a point where evaporation due to sweat no longer works to cool a person. Most of these wet bulb conditions were concentrated in South Asia, the coastal Middle East, and southwest North America (areas denoted in red and orange on a map Horton and his colleagues created, below).
The conditions aren't actually that hard to imagine: Wet bulb conditions occur when relative humidity is above 95 percent and temperatures are at least 88 degrees F, according to the study. The human body, Horton's study found, is essentially unable to withstand wet bulb conditions at all once temperatures hit 95 degrees F. Under these conditions, it's possible for otherwise healthy people to die.
“Even if they're in perfect health, even if they're sitting in the shade, even if they're wearing clothes that make it easy in principle to sweat, even if they have an endless supply of water,” Horton said. “If there's enough moisture in the air, it's thermodynamically impossible to prevent the body from overheating.”
Horton's research was supported by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, meaning that the U.S. government has been actively studying the weather conditions at which otherwise healthy humans spontaneously die: "Some locations have already reported combined heat and humidity extremes above humans' survivability limit," a NOAA press release stated. NOAA is also supporting a few projects that further study wet bulb conditions.
Sweating is a necessary function for coping with hot days. Once on the surface of the skin, sweat droplets can get hot enough that they turn into a gas and dissolve, eliminating heat and keeping the body’s internal temperature down.
The problem is, the atmosphere’s ability to take up moisture is finite; water can only transform into a gaseous state if the air surrounding the body is dry enough to accept it. In overly humid conditions, sweat is less likely to evaporate into the atmosphere than in dry conditions, Horton said. Dry heat, like that of the desert, is typically more comfortable than humid heat for this reason.
“We need a differential between the human body and the environment, and if the air is already holding as much moisture as it can, you don't have that gradient,” Horton said. “Your body's not able to get the atmosphere to take that moisture from it.”
So, on humid days, the water our bodies emit just stays there, getting hotter and hotter without ever evaporating into a gas. (Think of what happens in a steam room, when your body collects sweat instead of eliminating it, until the heat becomes so overwhelming that you need to step out.)
A growing number of other regions are nearing this point: The Southeast US, the Gulf of Mexico and Northern Australia, all denoted by green on the map, are seeing higher daily maximum wet bulb temperatures.
Horton believes that, in the short term, reducing exposure to wet bulb temperature will be a matter of behavioral adaptation—simply avoiding these conditions by taking respite in air conditioning, for example. But as severe heat straddles the country and energy grids in Texas, New York and beyond show signs of buckling under the pressure of extreme use, the reliability of AC becomes increasingly uncertain.
