Cell-Cultured Chicken Meat Goes Live In Singapore

In a world’s first, a hawker in Singapore recently offered a cell-cultured chicken meal at an affordable price of $4.

And diners said the meat tasted “just like real chicken”.

Cultured meat is made from growing animal cells in a bioreactor – similar to the vats used in brewing beer – instead of slaughtering actual animals.

The slices of lab-grown chicken were served alongside a hearty portion of white rice drenched in curry, together with eggplant and cai xin, a Chinese flowering cabbage, and a bottle of iced lemon tea at Loo’s Hainanese Curry Rice in Tiong Bahru.

The hawker stall, which has been open since 1946, partnered Eat Just’s Good Meat, a Californian start-up dedicated to the production of alternative proteins, to serve up cultured chicken in an everyday setting.

The meal was offered from Feb 26 to March 1 to a limited number of diners who made bookings months in advance.

During the run, Good Meat subsidised the cost of its chicken bites so that the whole meal could be offered to consumers at $4 each.

Barber Mervyn Hi, 33, said he could not tell the difference between the cultivated meat served and regular meat from slaughtered chickens.

Mr Hi, who only found out from his friend that he was eating lab-grown chicken on his second bite, said: “The meat tastes just like normal chicken. There is no taste of artificial flavouring in the meat at all.”

But he said the decision to give up regular chicken for lab-grown meat would depend on its eventual cost, citing the price point of McDonald’s nuggets as the one to beat.

The barber said: “If it were as affordable as McDonald’s nuggets, the choice of cultured chicken would be easy because I can continue my meat-eating lifestyle while avoiding contributing to the slaughter of chickens.”

Mr Loo Kia Chee, the 62-year-old owner of the Hainanese curry rice stall, said: “This cell-cultured meat is a big step forward for humanity’s food-related needs and is more environmentally friendly while also being ethical.”

“As it is a noble cause, I don’t mind supporting it.”

Good Meat will collaborate with hawkers in Singapore to promote its chicken meat.

While mainstream media and fact checkers insists claims that Gates is a eugenicist is are premised on conspiracy theories, the 66-year-old business magnate has openly advocated for reducing population growth.

In 2010 during a TED Talk presentation that has been widely circulated during the manufactured COVID-19 pandemic, Gates outlined plans to use vaccines would be instrumental in reducing the rate of global population growth and lowering carbon emissions.

Dark Money Group To Spend Millions Targeting Trump Lawyers

A dark money group with ties to the Democratic Party launched Monday and will spend millions of dollars throughout 2022 to try and disbar, shame and destroy the careers of over 100 lawyers who worked with former President Donald Trump.

The 65 Project will specifically target lawyers who worked on Trump’s post-election lawsuits, were linked to Jan. 6, or were part of Trump’s inner circle, according to Axios. The suits will be coupled with ad-buys in key battleground states in the lead up to the 2022 midterms and 2024 election. The dollar reserve system is facing its greatest threat yet.

Russian Finance Minister Anatoly Siluanov said on Saturday that the five BRICS countries - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa - could mitigate the backlash of Western sanctions against Russia on their economies by pooling their efforts and using a range of financial instruments at their disposal.

“The current crisis is man-made and BRICS countries have all the instruments necessary to mitigate its consequences for the national and global economies,” Siluanov was cited as saying by the Russian Finance Ministry.

The minister blamed economic sanctions on Russia for “destroying the foundation of the existing international monetary and financial system based on the US dollar” and urged BRICS to rely more on their national currencies in foreign trade, integrate payment systems and create an alternative to the SWIFT payment messaging platform.

Siluanov on Friday told a ministerial meeting with BRICS that the global economic situation had worsened substantially due to the sanctions, a statement from his ministry said on Friday.

“This pushes us to the need to speed up work in the following areas: the use of national currencies for export-import operations, the integration of payment systems and cards, our own financial messaging system and the creation of an independent BRICS rating agency,” Siluanov said.

April 9 (Reuters) - Russia, hit by Western sanctions, has called on the BRICS group of emerging economies to extend the use of national currencies and integrate payment systems, the finance ministry said on Saturday.

Sanctions have cut Russia off from the global financial system and from nearly half of its gold and foreign exchange reserves, which stood at $606.5 billion in early April.

On Friday, Finance Minister Anton Siluanov told a ministerial meeting with BRICS, which consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, that the global economic situation had worsened substantially due to the sanctions, the ministry's statement said.

The new sanctions also destroy the foundation of the existing international monetary and financial system based on the U.S. dollar, Siluanov said.

"This pushes us to the need to speed up work in the following areas: the use of national currencies for export-import operations, the integration of payment systems and cards, our own financial messaging system and the creation of an independent BRICS rating agency," Siluanov said.

International payment cards Visa and MasterCard suspended operations in Russia in early March and Russia's biggest banks have lost access to the SWIFT global banking messaging system.

Russia set up its own banking messaging system, known as SPFS, as an alternative to SWIFT. Its own card payment system MIR began operating in 2015.

They were part of Moscow's efforts to develop homegrown financial tools to mirror Western ones, to protect the country in case penalties against Moscow were broadened.

The finance ministry said BRICS ministers have confirmed the importance of cooperation in efforts to stabilise the current economic situation.

"The current crisis is man-made, and the BRICS countries have all necessary tools to mitigate its consequences for their economies and the global economy as a whole," Siluanov said.

Hunter Biden used his family’s high-profile connections to promote friends and associates to federal office while his father was vice president, emails obtained from his hard drive show.

During the spring of 2010, Hunter Biden exchanged a series of emails with John M. Mott, an associate judge of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia who was angling for appointment to the federal bench.

“I appreciate your help,” Mott told Hunter Biden in a March 9, 2010 email after the two spoke by phone. Mott asked Hunter to press his case to then Vice President Biden’s chief of staff Ron Klain.

“I know that it is a lot to ask for Ron to put in a good word for me when he doesn’t know me and hears about me from you out of the blue, but I’m hoping that he appreciates my background and support and decides to help,” Mott wrote.

“I have made my feelings clear and if there is anything I learn I will pass it on,” Hunter wrote back on May 20, 2010, noting that Klain had “not been very forthcoming.”

Mott never got the appointment. In a statement to The Post, Mott said he could not recall the emails.

“After I had been recommended (along with two or three other people) for a position on the District Court in 2010, I talked with Hunter Biden at a neighborhood social event,” Mott told The Post.

“I am not sure what effort, if any, he ever made on my behalf, but I do know that I was not appointed to the District Court. I continued to serve on the DC Superior Court until 2019, and I remain on the Superior Court on senior status. I have had no contact with Hunter Biden since that time about 12 years ago,” he added.

Hunter also lobbied preferred candidates directly to his father.

“Before you fill position pls talk to me — [John] McGrail very much wants to serve as detail fr [sic] treasury, Hunter emailed his dad on June 23, 2014.

“Re Johnny call me right away, Dad,” Joe Biden responded less than an hour later.

McGrail was a longtime chum of Hunter’s. At the time, McGrail was serving as senior counsel to the US Department of Treasury. Just weeks after Hunter’s email, he went on to become deputy counsel to Vice president Biden. He later rose to counsel.

When Biden left office in 2016, McGrail went back to Treasury, where he remains to this day, according to his LinkedIn.

McGrail did not respond to a request for comment from The Post.

I don't like the "white hats are in control" narrative for a number of reasons. While I believe that good people in the military and intelligence community are working to prosecute bad actors—and there is a mountain of evidence to back up this idea—to say that they are "in control" can give people a false sense of security.

When the idea that good people are "in control" is misapplied, it can remove our desire to get involved personally in the political process.

The Flynn brothers have seen the need to urge average people to get involved in the political process. The idea that white hats will clear everything up without our help is antithetical to that message. Even if they believed it to be true they would be foolish to say so publicly.

One of Q's most important messages was that we need to do our own research, think for ourselves, and trust our own judgment, and rely less on political pundits, intelligence experts and insiders. If we're still depending on them to inform us about what's happening, we haven't learned the lesson.

New York City is a liberal bastion and the elected officials appear to not want any reminders of former President Donald Trump in that city, but a judge just nixed one of the city’s plans.

The city wanted to cancel the Trump Organization’s Ferry Point golf course in the Bronx but a judge ruled in the organization’s favor this week, Bloomberg reported.

The city ended $17 million worth of contracts with the company in February 2021 after the Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol, including deals to operate a carousel and two ice rinks in Central Park. The company, which had a Nov. 14 deadline to leave the course, sued the city in June.

New York said the organization breached a provision of the contract that required it to “operate a course capable of attracting professional tournament-quality events.”

The city argued that the PGA of America’s announcement in January that it wouldn’t hold its annual championship at Trump’s Bedminster, New Jersey, course led it to believe that no golf organization would associate itself with the Bronx course if it was connected to Trump after the Capitol riot, according to the suit.

But New York State Supreme Court Justice Debra James on Friday vacated the city’s decision to cancel the contract for Ferry Point, saying that there is no such obligation in their agreement. James noted that while the deal allowed the city to cancel the agreement at will, New York wasn’t citing that section in its decision to terminate the contract.

“Anyone holding a city concession is held to a high standard,” a New York City Law Department spokesman said. “We are disappointed in the court’s decision, and we are reviewing our legal options.”

Eric Trump, the son of the former president, said that the organization will continue to operate the gold course, The New York Post reported.

“The judge didn’t buy their nonsense and this is a well-reasoned and appropriate decision and we look forward to running the best golf course for years to come,” he said.

North Korean state media issued a scathing condemnation of US President Joe Biden on Saturday, decrying his “senility” and diagnosing a “problem in his intellectual faculty.” US sanctions on Russia will backfire, the article by the official KCNA news agency claimed, with Washington being the “final loser” on the world stage.

By accusing Russia of war crimes in Ukraine, the US is attempting to defame Russia and “achieve the collapse of its regime,” the article read. “This reminds one of ‘a guilty party filing the suit first’,” it continued, before accusing the US of the “merciless” killing of “millions of innocent civilians” in Afghanistan, Iraq and Yugoslavia.

Recently, Kiev and its Western backer have floated ‘war crimes’ accusations against Russia, when they accused its troops of having killed scores of civilians in the town of Bucha. Moscow has vehemently denied the allegations, claiming instead that the evidence was manipulated by Ukraine as part of a propaganda campaign. The Kremlin has requested a UN inquiry into the incident.

President Biden had referred to Russian President Vladimir Putin as a “war criminal” who “cannot remain in power” even prior to the incident at Bucha.

“Calling the head of a sovereign state a ‘war criminal’ and a ‘murderous dictator’ for no justifiable and confirmed reason…is an insult to the other nation and clear infringement of sovereignty,” the article continued. “Such reckless remarks can be made only by the descendants of Yankees, master hand at aggression and plot-breeding.”

“Perhaps, the trouble was caused by him reading a script which his aides prepared beforehand,” it continued. “If not, the conclusion could be that there is a problem in his intellectual faculty and that his reckless remarks are just a show of imprudence of an old man in his senility.”

Such arguments have long been made by Biden’s opponents in the US, who point to the 79-year-old president’s history of verbal slip-ups and apparent confusion as evidence of cognitive decline. “Gloomy, it seems, is the future of the US with such a feeble man in power,” the article continued.

The article went on to claim that US sanctions on Russia will only hurt the US. Commentators in the US and Europe have raised similar concerns, amid record high energy prices and multi-decade high levels of inflation in both regions.

North Korean officials and writers have a long history of attacking US presidents before Biden, with Donald Trump previously called a “dotard,” Barack Obama a “wicked black monkey,” and George W. Bush “a half-baked man and a philistine.”

The US’ policy of sanctioning its foreign enemies has always been a target of criticism from Pyongyang. North Korea itself has been extensively sanctioned by the US, EU and UN, especially over its nuclear program.

Former US President Donald Trump said his successor, Joe Biden, is humiliating the country, and told supporters he might run for re-election in 2024.

The 45th president tore into Biden during a ‘Save America’ rally in Selma, North Carolina on Saturday.

“Our children are being indoctrinated, our values are being desecrated, our heritage is being obliterated, and our country is being humiliated by a president who has no idea what the hell is going on,” Trump told the crowd of supporters.

Trump hinted that he might run again for the highest office in the land in 2024. “I did much better the second time than I did the first and now we may have to do it again. Is there anybody here who’d like to see me run again?”

He also mentioned the midterm election that will take place in November. “This is the year we’re going to take back the House,” Trump said. “We’re going to take back the Senate, and we’re going to take back America, and in 2024, most importantly, we are going to take back our beautiful, beautiful, beautiful White House.”

Trump shocked many observers when he was elected to run the country in 2016, beating the odds-on favorite, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. He lost in the 2020 election to Biden, but claimed the race was rigged against him.

Trump supporters stormed and briefly overran the Capitol building in Washington, DC on January 6, 2021, as Congress was finalizing Biden’s victory.

They plan to set up a SWIFT-like system and a ratings agency

Ukraine-related Western sanctions are pushing BRICS countries into closer economic cooperation at an accelerated pace, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov said on Saturday during the first meeting of finance ministers and central bank governors of the BRICS countries, chaired by China.

According to the finance minister, the “current crisis is man-made,” and the BRICS member states – Russia, Brazil, India, China, and South Africa – “have all the necessary tools to mitigate its consequences for their respective economies and the global economy on a broader scale.”

Siluanov says the current US dollar-based international financial system should be reformed to ensure “independence and continuity of economic processes.”

“The situation in the global economy has deteriorated significantly as a result of the sanctions. Bans on settlements, disruption of production and supply chains, export controls and import bans – all of these restrictions hit the global economy.”

In order to prevent economies from plunging into crisis, BRICS countries are working to reform their financial interaction, for instance, by creating a BRICS-based interbank messaging system, an analogue of SWIFT, which Russia was cut off from last month as part of EU sanctions, and other measures.

“This pushes us to the need to speed up work in the following areas: The use of national currencies for export-import transactions, the integration of payment systems and cards, our own financial messaging system and the creation of an independent BRICS rating agency,” Siluanov said.

The prospect of creating a BRICS-focused rating agency, for instance, is a highly positive idea, analysts say, as major ratings agencies Moody’s, Fitch, and S&P recently removed their Russia ratings due to sanctions pressure, which makes it difficult for Moscow to secure foreign investment.

During their meeting, representatives of the BRICS countries also discussed cooperation through the New Development Bank, investment in infrastructure, and the creation of a BRICS research network. The central banks of the nations agreed to conduct a new test of the BRICS Contingent Reserve Pool mechanism, which allows member states to swap national currencies in times of need.

A North Carolina congressman has introduced a bill to require the federal government to restart rebuilding the border wall, which was halted by President Joe Biden.

U.S. Rep. Ted Budd, R-NC, introduced the Build the Wall Now Act, which removes all legal impediments to building the border wall. Among other things, it unlocks an additional $2.1 billion that was appropriated in fiscal years 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021 that weren’t spent.

Congress allocated $6 billion for the wall’s construction between fiscal years 2018 and 2021, according to the General Accounting Office.

Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Missouri Attorney General Eric Schmitt sued the administration last fall, asking the court to require the administration to resume building the wall using funds already appropriated by Congress.

Within a month of the AGs' lawsuit, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security said it was using the money on environmental and cleanup projects in certain areas of Arizona, California and Texas. Funds would be used to “address life, safety, environmental, and remediation requirements for border barrier projects” in the San Diego, El Centro, Yuma, Tucson, El Paso, and Del Rio Border Patrol sectors.

As the AGs’ lawsuit makes its way through court and as border communities brace for an estimated roughly 18,000 people expected to come through the southern border after Title 42 is repealed next month, Budd said, “The best way to end the Biden Border Crisis is to finish the border wall now.”

“The Biden administration is trying to run out the regulatory clock on wall construction while undermining our border patrol officers by repealing Title 42,” he said in a statement. “Every time I visit the southern border, law enforcement agents tell me how Biden’s open border policy is endangering our national security and the safety of the entire interior of our country.”

Title 42 is a public health authority that allows Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents to quickly process and deport illegal immigrants under a public health emergency. It was used by the Trump administration to slow the spread of the coronavirus. The Biden administration announced it was ending it May 23.

As long as Democrats hold a majority in Congress and Biden remains president, the bill isn’t expected to become law. But it’s an example of Republicans increasingly frustrated with the administration’s open border policies filing legislation in Congress as immigration lawsuits remain tied up in courts.

Even while Title 42 was being used, in Biden’s first year in office, roughly two million people from over 150 countries were apprehended or encountered by CBP agents entering the U.S. illegally. This number excludes an estimated several hundred thousand who evaded law enforcement.

All funding for the border wall was suspended on Biden’s first day in office. It costs taxpayers $3 million a day to not build the wall due to contractual obligations with the construction firm tasked with building it.

Scientists at Hull York Medical School in England published their findings in the journal Science of the Total Environment, the first such study to show microplastics in the lung tissue of live people.

Microplastics are extremely small plastic particles composed of mixtures of polymers and functional additives that measure less than five millimeters in size and are generally unintentionally released into the environment because of the disposal and breakdown of larger consumer products or industrial waste.

Researchers in the study collected lung tissue from living patients undergoing surgical procedures at Castle Hill Hospital and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust before filtering it to see what was present.

Disney Helps Employees ‘Transition’ Transgender Children and Themselves

The Walt Disney Co. is assisting employees and their children with sex-change and “gender affirmation” procedures through the company’s benefits program, an internal video suggests.

Disney’s “benefits team” is offering resources and guides to employees transitioning to the opposite gender, as well as information for employees’ children who are transitioning, according to a video shared by Manhattan Institute senior fellow Christopher Rufo.

“The other big area is gender identity and expression, so doing all of this work to ensure that our employees and cast can express their gender here authentically and proudly at the company,” a man said in the video.

The video is from an internal company meeting, according to Rufo, and the backdrop displayed the phrases “The Walt Disney Company” and “Reimagine Tomorrow.”

“So, you know, coming up with guides on how to change your photo, information about pronouns, working with our benefits team to give information about gender-affirmation procedures both for our employees who are transitioning and trans, but also our employees who have kids who are transitioning,” the man in the video continued.

A question-and-answer document on Disney’s gender-affirmation coverage shared online by Fidelity Investments, which manages Disney’s benefits program, appears to confirm this policy.

Disney covers “Gender Affirmation procedures” for both adults and adolescents through Cigna, a health insurance company. The company covers puberty-suppressing hormones for minors under the direction of an endocrinologist, according to the Fidelity document.

For those over 18, the company covers genital implants or prosthesis, breast augmentation or reduction, facial feminization surgeries, vocal surgery and speech therapy, trachea shaving, chest contouring, hair removal, hair transplants, and chest contouring, according to the Fidelity document.

Because of state law, Disney also covers mastectomies and genital surgeries for California employees, the document explained.

Disney came under fire after Rufo leaked other videos March 30 that purportedly revealed Disney employees and corporate leaders’ coordinated efforts to inject “queerness” into children’s programming, add more gay and transgender characters, and promote what one employee reportedly called a “not-at-all-secret gay agenda.”

Disney and Cigna did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

In early 1987, O'Rourke became ill with giardiasis, which she contracted from well water at her family's home in Big Bear Lake.[25] She was subsequently diagnosed as having Crohn's disease. She was prescribed cortisone injections to treat the disease during the time she was filming Poltergeist III.[26] The steroidal injections resulted in facial swelling of the cheeks, which O'Rourke's mother said she was very self-conscious about.[5]

The following morning, she collapsed in her home, and was rushed to Community Hospital in El Cajon.[27] En route, she suffered cardiac arrest, but paramedics were able to restart her heart at 9:25 a.m.[27] She was subsequently flown to the Children's Hospital of San Diego,[27] where it was discovered she had intestinal stenosis and went into emergency surgery. She survived the surgery, but suffered another cardiac arrest while in the recovery room. Doctors performed CPR for over 30 minutes, but finally, O'Rourke was pronounced dead at 2:43 that afternoon.[25][27] O'Rourke's cause of death was ruled congenital stenosis of the intestine[28] complicated by septic shock.[10][29][30]

Daniel Hollander, the head of gastroenterology at the University of California, Irvine Medical Center stated that O'Rourke's death was "distinctly unusual" as she lacked prior symptoms of the bowel defect: "I would have expected a lot of [digestive] difficulties throughout her life and not just to have developed a problem all of a sudden."[25] However, Dr. Hollander further stated that it was possible for congenital bowel narrowing to cause sudden death without symptoms if an infection caused the bowel to rupture.[25] A private funeral was held for O'Rourke on February 5, 1988, in Los Angeles.[25] She was entombed at Westwood Village Memorial Park Cemetery.[3]

Trucks back up so far that one observer friend of mine who flew a drone high overhead (see photo below) said the end of the line could not be seen, not for “miles and miles and miles.” The same scene played out at one of America’s other busiest land ports, the international bridge connecting Ciudad Juarez to El Paso. China has banned “Christ” and other religious words from social media apps under a new policy that went into effect on March 1. According to a new report, the policy also requires licensing and training to post Christian and religious content on the internet.

The Chinese Communist Party’s new law – dubbed the “Measures for the Administration of Internet Religious Information Services” – prohibits individuals and organizations from posting religious information on the internet unless they have first obtained permission from a provincial government department, according to China Aid, which monitors religious freedom within the country.

Early Rain Covenant Church, a Chinese congregation, recently discovered the far-reaching impact of the new law. Using the messaging app WeChat, a church member tried posting the names of eight books for members of a reading group, asking them to vote on their favorite. Among the titles: The Defense of the Faith by Cornelius Van Til, Tradition and the Individual Talent by T. S. Eliot and The Imitation of Christ by Thomas à Kempis.

But the WeChat app rejected the post, saying the word “Christ” was not allowed.

“The word ‘Christ’ you are trying to publish violates regulations on Internet Information Services, including but not limited to the following categories: pornography, gambling, and drug abuse; excessive marketing; incitement.”

The issue could only be resolved by editing the post, which the church member did.

“Unfortunately, the group administrator had to replace part of the word ‘Christ’ to pass censorship,” China Aid said.

The watchdog group also noted that under the new law, individuals and organizations must undergo government training and obtain an “Internet Religious Information Service License” in order to post religious information on the internet. Yet, even then, the content must conform to the Chinese Communist Party’s beliefs on religion and government.

“Anyone who posts content with the purpose of ‘inciting the state power using religion,’ ‘objecting to the Chinese Communist Party’s leadership,’ ‘obstructing the socialism system,’ ‘damaging national reunification,’ or ‘harming the unity of various ethnic groups and social stability’ shall be punished,” China Aid reported.

Pakistan's Imran Khan Ousted In Midnight No Confidence Vote, Urges Supporters Rise Up Against US-Led "Foreign Conspiracy"

The past week has witnessed a political earthquake rock nuclear-armed Pakistan, culminating in the historically unprecedented ouster of its sitting prime minister by a vote of no-confidence in parliament. The country has seen many days of constitutional chaos and massive rival street protests unfold, culminating in the midnight Saturday vote to boot longtime ruler Imran Khan, who has now seen his term end Sunday.

Khan was earlier able to block a similar attempt by seeking to dissolve parliament (a move thwarted by the country's Supreme Court), but by the weekend some key political allies deserted him, leading to 174 parliamentarians passing the no-confidence motion, which required 172 votes among the 342 seat parliament to pass.

Crucially Khan quickly pointed the finger at the United States, and urged his supporters across the nation to take to the streets. The Hill writes, "Anticipating his loss, Khan, who charged his opposition colluded with the United States to unseat him, has called on his supporters to stage rallies nationwide on Sunday."

"Khan’s options are limited and should he see a big turnout in his support, he may try to keep the momentum of street protests as a way to pressure Parliament to hold early elections," the report continues. Khan said in a national address on Friday: "You have to come out to protect your own future. It is you who have to protect your democracy, your sovereignty and your independence. … This is your duty." He vowed: "I will not accept an imposed government."

It's believed his relations with the country's powerful military (which has long been the core of Islamabad's 'deep state') have soured, also amid surging inflation and a plummeting rupee, earning charges of severe economic mismanagement from the political opposition and widespread public anger. In particularl he's said to have clashed with Pakistan's Army Chief as well as the foreign office.

It bears recalling that PM Khan had met with Russia's Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Feb.24 - a mere hours before Russian tanks rolled across the border into Ukraine. Despite the Feb.23-24 visit being long in planning, and primarily aimed at boosting energy and trade ties between the two countries, the poor timing served to spotlight the controversy of the visit and warming Pakistan-Russia relations.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO) has announced that it will begin engaging in the Asia-Pacific region both practically and politically in light of Beijing’s growing influence and coercion and its unwillingness to condemn Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Meta shareholders slam Zuckerberg, question metaverse’s ‘dystopian downsides’

A group of angry shareholders say Mark Zuckerberg’s weak leadership has sent Meta’s stock tumbling 34% this year — and they plan to push for checks on the CEO’s power, The Post has learned.

Concerned investors are pushing two resolutions at the social media titan’s upcoming shareholder meeting they say would provide badly needed oversight of Facebook, Instagram and the potential “dystopian downsides” of Mark Zuckerberg’s metaverse project.

In an effort to drum up support, a corporate accountability group called SumOfUs that’s working with activist investors is sending a report to more than 4,000 institutional investors with stakes in the company — among them Vanguard, Fidelity and BlackRock.

The scathing report, which was exclusively obtained by The Post, describes three crises “engulfing” Zuckerberg’s company: privacy restrictions by Google and Apple that have bruised Meta’s advertising business, the storm of antitrust lawsuits and bills targeting Meta and other big tech firms, as well as allegations that Zuckerberg has lied to investors and lawmakers about Instagram’s harmful effects on teens.

The group places blame for these crises squarely on Zuckerberg, who they say has failed to prove that his recent embrace of the metaverse is anything more than a “rushed attempt to divert attention from fundamental issues with Meta’s core business.”

Christina O’Connell, SumOfUs’s shareholder engagement advisor, told The Post that Meta’s plummeting stock price should wake up investors.

“When you see a loss of over $230 billion in February, that shakes up everybody, and that should be a sign that it’s time for change,” O’Connell said.

The first resolution, which SumOfUs is pushing alongside shareholders Harrington Investments and the Park Foundation, calls for an outside assessment of Meta’s Audit and Risk Oversight Committee, a board the company created in 2020 that is supposedly independent from Zuckerberg and makes decisions about content moderation issues such as former President Donald Trump’s ban from Facebook and Instagram.

Ex-Clinton Campaign Lawyer Fights Durham’s Use of FBI Expert Testimony

Attorneys for former Democratic National Committee lawyer Michael Sussmann filed a motion seeking to exclude certain expert testimony from his case, accusing special counsel John Durham’s attorneys of missing a key deadline, and asking a judge to block testimony in his false statement case.

The lawyers representing Sussmann, who is accused by the Justice Department of lying to the FBI, said Durham “never once suggested that it intended to call an expert witness,” according to a Friday evening court filing (pdf).

“Now—a mere six weeks before trial—the Special Counsel has provided a perfunctory and legally deficient notice that he intends to call Special Agent David Martin of the FBI to offer highly technical and complex testimony at trial,” said the motion, “including (at his sole discretion) on a topic that the Special Counsel has told the Court he does not intend to put at issue at trial, namely, the accuracy of the data that Mr. Sussmann provided to the FBI, as well as the accuracy of the conclusions drawn from that data.”

Sussmann, his lawyers stated, “is amenable to expert testimony from Special Agent Martin that helps educate the jury about basic, uncontroversial issues like what Domain Name System data is,” read the filing. Sussmann also seeks to block “any expert testimony regarding the accuracy of the data or the accuracy of conclusions drawn from the data.”

They also asserted in court that the testimony requested by Durham is “complicated and highly technical,” adding that it “relates to the accuracy and possible fabrication, manipulation, or ‘spoofing,’ of truly voluminous DNS data, as well as ‘the analytic significance and conclusions that can be drawn based on the provenance and origins’ of that voluminous data.” DNS refers to Domain Name System, a decentralized naming system used to identify computers, servers, and other devices reachable via the Internet.

Martin is being called by Durham to testify about the Tor open-source software platform that allows for anonymous communications and accessing certain “darknet” websites, according to a previous filing from the special prosecutor. He also told Sussmann’s team that “as you are aware, a white paper that the defendant submitted to FBI General Counsel Baker contained assertions about the purported use of a TOR exit node by the Trump Organization and Alfa Bank.”

Hunter's Hard Drive - Let's Talk About Reality

Ever since Jack Maxey revealed that he and his technical team had succeeded in recovering large numbers of deleted files from Hunter Biden’s laptop a chorus of voices have piped up to suggest the claim is bogus. The intent of this criticism is obvious. The individuals behind the claims are very worried about what will be revealed and they want to get a running start on discrediting what could be very damaging information. We assume the words “Russian disinformation” might reappear at any moment.

Still, we thought it might be worthwhile talking to an actual technical expert on the subject and getting his take. Here are the comments of Harry Haury – who has actually seen the hard drive in question. We have quoted them verbatim.

“Let’s talk a little bit about disk drives, data capacity, and recovery of data in a forensic investigation. Many people that have worked with computers, even as technicians, understand little about how they actually work. Hard disk drives store information as individual bits across the drive using what is called a File System, Disk Operating System or is sometimes referred to as part of the Operating System. Since the early days of computing these terms have evolved and can be a bit ambiguous, but the issue has come up about how Jack Maxey and his team might have found a lot more data on Hunter Biden’s laptop than previously found and why the size of these files might appear much larger than the size of the original disk. There are many reasons that this occurs and without an exhaustive discussion I will cover the primary reasons we see this:

1) Header and descriptive information added by the extraction software:

This is a small but noticeable expansion, but almost all forensic recovery tools write out a lot of information about the drive, the files encountered and other various information that might be relevant to examining a drive.

2) Erased or deleted files:

Except for Hillary Clinton or her Tech, most people do not realize that when you erase a troublesome file it does not actually disappear. The File System usually just deletes the reference to it. The original data remains. People expert in hiding inconvenient data not only erase a file but over-right it multiple times with a Wipe Utility like BleachBit to make it impossible to recover any data. With NSA-level tools, it is possible to read down a number of layers into the disk to see what was written and overwritten, so a system has to write and rewrite over deleted data several times. Otherwise, it is possible, often to pull data from a hard drive that no one knows is there. Why is this important? It speaks to the travesty of the FBI and NSA never fully investigating the original laptop and its contents, at least not publicly. But it is completely plausible that the copy of the hard drive Jack Maxey has contains numerous deleted files that could be recovered.

The Russian military claims it has destroyed a Ukrainian base hosting “foreign mercenaries” with warship-launched cruise missiles.

“During the night, high-precision sea-based missiles destroyed the headquarters and base of Dnepr nationalist battalion in Zvonetskoe, Dnepropetrovsk Region, where foreign mercenaries had recently arrived,” claimed Major-General Igor Konashenkov, the Russian defence ministry’s chief spokesman, in one of his regular social media briefings.

Ukraine has recruited volunteers from the West in large numbers, along with Chechen dissidents and other foreign fighters, whom the Kremlin regard as mercenaries — although the Russians are themselves luring thousands of Arabs, chiefly Syrians, to join their invasion force with the prospect of superior pay.

Konashenkov also claimed that “[h]igh-precision air-based missiles” had destroyed a number of Soviet-era S-300 anti-aircraft missile launchers — the same system Slovakia is donating to Ukraine in exchange for U.S. Patriot missiles — although the Associated Press noted that these “Russian military claims couldn’t be independently verified” on Saturday.

The Russian officer further claimed that his country’s armed forces had downed eight drones and struck a number of Ukrainian ammunition depots, command posts, fuel depots, and 49 military strong points, although this is similarly unverified.

Moscow is believed by Britain’s Ministry of Defence and other Western government entities to be shifting its focus to the Donbas (Donbass) and Black Sea coastline in Ukraine’s south-east, after sustaining significant losses in the Kyiv (Kiev) region in the north and retreating most of the way back to Ukraine’s pre-invasion frontiers.
