Pfizer Vaccine Could Be Authorized For Kids By Early Next Week

Teenagers aged 12 to 15 may soon be able to get their COVID-19 vaccination with authorization of the Pfizer (PFE) vaccine anticipated to come sooner than previously thought.

Federal officials told CBS News that the Food and Drug Administration is expected to authorize the Pfizer-BioNtech COVID vaccine for use in teens aged 12 to 15 as early as next week.

This would mean that children aged 12 and upwards would have access to the Pfizer vaccine prior to the start of the next school year.

The FDA is currently in the review process of the Pfizer vaccine for adolescents, following a clinical trial of 2,260 12 to 15-year-olds, CNN reported.

But before emergency use authorization would be granted, the FDA typically holds an independent Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee, thoughit is not expected to occur in this case, CNN said.

"While the FDA cannot predict how long its evaluation of the data and information will take, the agency will review the request as expeditiously as possible using its thorough and science-based approach," the FDA said in an email to CNN last week.

"Based on an initial evaluation of the information submitted, at this time, the agency does not plan to hold a meeting of the Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee (VRBPAC) on this request to amend the EUA for the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine, which was discussed and recommended for authorization at a VRBPAC meeting in December 2020. As with all FDA-authorized COVID-19 vaccines, we are committed to transparency with this EUA review process.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advisory committee will hold an Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices meeting following the FDA’s decision on the Pfizer vaccine, where CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky will determine the agency’s recommendation on the vaccine’s use, according to CNN.

Currently, the Pfizer vaccine is authorized for use in those aged 16 and up, while the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccines are authorized for use in individuals aged 18 and older. Both Pfizer and Moderna are also testing their vaccines in children as young as six months and are looking to receive authorization from the FDA later this year, CNN reported.

According to Pfizer, the vaccine has shown 100% efficacy in children as young as 12 years old during clinical trials with side effects that are similar to those that have been experienced in young adults. This would be the first COVID vaccine authorized for adolescents in the U.S.

The Israeli People Committee (IPC), a civilian body made of leading Israeli health experts, has published its April report into the Pfizer vaccine’s side effects indicating damage to almost every system in the human body. If the findings by IPC are genuine, then Pfizer vaccine is linked to more deaths in Israel than AstraZeneca’s in the whole of Europe. The findings are catastrophic on every possible level. This is a detailed report that highlights the most devastating findings.

The verdict of the Israeli People Committee is that “there has never been a vaccine that has harmed as many people.” The report is long and detailed (read full report below).

“We received 288 death reports in proximity to vaccination (90% up to 10 days after the vaccination), 64% of those were men.”

Yet the report states, “according to data provided by the Ministry of Health, only 45 deaths in Israel were vaccine related.”

If these are the genuine numbers, then Israel has failed to report on its experimental results genuinely.

Son of Sinaloa Cartel leader pleads guilty in the US to drug trafficking

The son of the leader of Mexico’s notorious Sinaloa Cartel pleaded guilty in a U.S. court to drug trafficking and agreed to forfeit US$5 million in proceeds, a statement from the Department of Justice said. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for April next year.

Ismael Zambada-Imperial, also known by the nickname “Mayito Gordo,” was extradited from Mexico to California in 2019 after he, his brother and his father were indicted in 2014 along with the son of the previous leader of the cartel, incarcerated Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán Loera.

After El Chapo was arrested in 2016, his close associate Ismael Zambada-Garcia, or “El Mayo,” took over command over one of the most powerful criminal organizations in the world. He remains out of reach to U.S. authorities.

“Zambada-Imperial accepted responsibility for his role as a leader within the Sinaloa Cartel, acknowledging that he organized the transportation and distribution of thousands of kilograms of controlled substances, including cocaine, heroin, and marijuana for importation from Mexico into the United States,” the DoJ statement said.

Despite the arrest of El Chapo, the Sinaloa Cartel remains the most prominent drug trafficking group and criminal enterprise in Mexico and much of the Western Hemisphere.

Trump launches new communications platform months after Twitter, Facebook ban

EXCLUSIVE: Former President Trump on Tuesday launched a communications platform, which will eventually give him the ability to communicate directly with his followers, after months of being banned from sites like Twitter and Facebook.

The platform, "From the Desk of Donald J. Trump" appears on www.DonaldJTrump.com/desk.

The space will allow Trump to post comments, images, and videos.

The technology appears to be powered by Campaign Nucleus— the "digital ecosystem made for efficiently managing political campaigns and organizations," created by his former campaign manager, Brad Parscale.

The space allows Trump to post, and allows followers to share the former president’s posts to Twitter and Facebook, however, the new platform does not have a feature to allow users to "reply" or engage with Trump’s posts.

"This is just a one-way communication," one source familiar with the space told Fox News. "This system allows Trump to communicate with his followers."

Trump’s new platform surfaced Tuesday, after advisers had told Fox News that the former president planned to "move forward" to create a social media platform of his own after being banned from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and Snapchat after the Capitol riot.

It unclear, at this point, if this platform is part of those plans, or if there is a separate project underway.

The rollout of the platform also comes just a day before Facebook's Oversight Board is expected to announce its decision on whether to indefinitely suspend Trump from Facebook and Instagram.

The board in January accepted a case referral from Facebook to examine the ban, as well as to provide policy recommendations on suspensions when the user is a political leader.

Facebook moved to block Trump "indefinitely" after the Jan. 6 riot in the U.S. Capitol, with CEO Mark Zuckerberg saying that they "believe the risks of allowing the President to continue to use our service during this period are simply too great."

Regardless of Facebook’s decision Wednesday a Twitter spokesperson told Fox News that Trump is permanently suspended from tweeting.

Conservative think tank Heritage Foundation stops taking Big Tech donations

The Heritage Foundation has stopped accepting donations from tech giants amid an escalating battle with Silicon Valley over censorship, The Post has learned.

The influential conservative think tank — which famously turned pro-Trump after initial skepticism of his presidential candidacy, brokering appointments of cabinet members including Mick Mulvaney, Jeff Sessions and Betsy DeVos — said it will join a group of more than 40 right-leaning research outfits refusing to accept money from Big Tech firms including Google, Twitter, Facebook, Apple, and Amazon, according to a memo obtained by The Post.

“As you know, there is a growing momentum in Washington to rein in Google and other technology companies, either through antitrust action or changes in liability protections you enjoy,” Heritage President Kay Coles James wrote in the memo to the tech firms. “Heritage is in the midst of reviewing these proposals, and the last thing we need is for anyone to think that our conclusions have in any way been influenced by a relatively small donation from your company.”

In October 2020, Heritage turned down a $225,000 donation from Google and returned $150,000 it received from Facebook. Previously, Google had donated a total of $1.55 million to Heritage and Facebook had given $275,000, according to a Heritage spokesman. Donations to Heritage in 2019 totaled $87 million, according to the think tank’s most recent tax filings.

Last month, dozens of conservative think tanks including the Family Research Council, Media Research Center, Center for Renewing America, and Citizens United pledged to turn down donations from big tech. Other big right-leaning research nonprofits like American Enterprise Institute, Mercatus, Cato Institute, the Manhattan Institute, the Hoover Institution and the Rand Corporation haven’t announced positions on tech donations.

Tech companies are in the crosshairs of the Federal Trade Commission, the Department of Justice’s antitrust division, and dozens of states attorneys general over their increasing clout. In response, they have significantly ramped up lobbying. In 2020, Facebook spent $19.7 million, Amazon spent $17.9 million, Google spent $7.5 million, Apple spent $7.4 million, and Twitter spent $1.5 million, according to public filings.

Donations to think tanks, meanwhile, can be made privately, making it a more discreet way of influencing policy and shaping legislation. But a growing number of think tanks are concerned about possible conflicts of interest.

A Heritage spokesman said the group — which gets most of its donations from smaller donors despite big-name trustees that include Rebekah Mercer — has felt escalating bias from Big Tech during the past two years.

AUSTIN, Texas (CNS) – Texas Catholic bishops said they are opposed to a bill pending in the state legislature that would allow people to carry handguns without a permit.

Writing to legislators and the state's 8.5 million Catholics May 3, the bishops said the "permitless carry" proposal "would remove important safeguards to protect human life in our communities."

"As pastors we are alarmed at the aggressive calls for the unfettered presence of weapons carried into public places," the letter said, citing mass shootings that have occurred and the fear people have about such violence.

The bill has passed in the Texas House of Representatives, and a Senate committee specifically created to consider the legislation quickly approved it April 29. A vote in the full Senate was not scheduled.

Political observers questioned whether the bill has enough support in the Senate to pass and go to the desk of Gov. Greg Abbott, who is Catholic.

Known as HB 1927, the bill eliminates the requirement for Texas residents to obtain a license to carry handguns as long as they are not prohibited by state or federal law from possessing a firearm. It also rescinds the requirement to receive training before carrying a handgun in public.

The bill has been opposed by some law enforcement officers, concealed carry license instructors and Democrats, all of whom cited safety concerns.

The bishops' said in their letter issued by the Texas Catholic Conference, the public policy arm of the state's bishops that the bill risks increasing the number of deaths because more untrained people would be carrying firearms in more public spaces.

"We are also concerned this bill would allow those with mental health issues to carry handguns. This would place our communities at greater risk of harm," the letter said.

The bishops urged society to confront the "growing culture of violence with a commitment to life, a vision of hope, and a call to action."

"HB 1927 fails to reflect a commitment to life or a vision of hope and instead accomplishes nothing more than to make it easier for potentially violent persons to act in anger or delusion. This will cause people to feel more threatened and more afraid," the letter said.

"Too often we have seen how guns are used in the public forum by someone acting in anger. Instead of relying on law enforcement and our justice system, people with guns in public areas can become the aggrieved, the jury and the judge, in swift and violent sequence," it continued.

"Respect for the dignity of human life and moral responsibility will be further eroded" with the bill's passage, the letter added.

The letter was signed by Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo of Galveston-Houston, Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller of San Antonio, 13 state bishops and Bishop Stephen J. Lopes of the Ordinariate of the Chair of St. Peter, established by the Vatican in 2012 to serve former Anglicans living full communion with the Catholic Church.

A federal judge ordered the DOJ to release a memo that Bill Barr used to clear President Trump of obstruction of justice, saying 'it is time for the public to see' it

A federal judge on Tuesday ordered the Justice Department to turn over an internal memo that Attorney General Bill Barr cited in 2019 as justification for clearing President Donald Trump of obstructing justice.

Barr said at the time that he'd come to his decision "in consultation with the Office of Legal Counsel and other Department lawyers," but he did not publicize the OLC's memo. In response, the watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit to obtain the memo.

In Tuesday's ruling, US District Judge Amy Berman Jackson said the unreleased OLC memo that Barr used to clear Trump of obstruction contradicted his claim that the decision to charge the president was under his purview because the special counsel Robert Mueller "did not resolve the question of whether the evidence would support a prosecution."

Barr announced the decision in a four-page letter to Congress in March 2019 summarizing Mueller's findings in the FBI's investigation into Russia's interference in the 2016 US election.

"The letter asserted that the Special Counsel 'did not draw a conclusion – one way or the other – as to whether the examined conduct constituted obstruction,' and it went on to announce the Attorney General's own opinion that 'the evidence developed during the Special Counsel's investigation is not sufficient to establish that the President committed an obstruction-of-justice offense,'" Jackson wrote.

However, the OLC's memo "calls into question the accuracy of Attorney General Barr's March 24 representation to Congress" and "raises serious questions about how the Department of Justice could make this series of representations to a court," the ruling said.

Jackson pointed out that Mueller himself criticized Barr's handling of the public release of the report and his description of the special counsel's conclusions.

On April 18, 2019, Barr "appeared before Congress to deliver the report," Jackson wrote. "He asserted that he and the Deputy Attorney General reached the conclusion he had announced in the March 24 letter 'in consultation with the Office of Legal Counsel and other Department lawyers.'"

"What remains at issue today is a memorandum to the Attorney General dated March 24, 2019, that specifically addresses the subject matter of the letter transmitted to Congress," she added, referring to the OLC memo.

She continued: "It is time for the public to see that, too."

Mueller's findings in the obstruction investigation were widely discussed when his final report was released in April 2019. He laid out 11 potential instances of obstruction by Trump but declined to make a "traditional prosecutorial judgment."

Barr told reporters that Mueller's decision was not influenced by long-standing Justice Department guidelines that say a sitting president cannot be indicted. He said that in fact, Mueller's determination — or lack thereof — was prompted by the inconclusive nature of the evidence.

But in his report, Mueller did not cite the nature, or absence, of evidence as the reason he did not come to a decision on obstruction. He did, however, cite the OLC's 1973 memo saying that a sitting president cannot be charged with a crime.

Moreover, the special counsel's team said that "if we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the President clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, we would so state." The team continued: "Based on the facts and the applicable legal standards, however, we are unable to reach that judgment."

NASA announces launch plans for new Dream Chaser spaceplane

The Dream Chaser spaceplane, a cargo spacecraft built and operated by Nevada-based Sierra Nevada Corp., is to begin launching and landing in Florida in 2022, NASA and the company announced Tuesday. The uncrewed, robotic spaceplane will be launched aboard a United Launch Alliance rocket from Kennedy Space Center for flights to the International Space Station. Once it docks and delivers cargo, Dream Chaser will return to the space center's former space shuttle landing strip.

The first Dream Chaser is being prepared for delivery to the space center next spring, Janet Kavandi, a former astronaut and an executive vice president of Sierra Nevada, said during a press conference Tuesday on the landing strip. "When we first launch next year, 2022, at the end of that mission, we plan to come back and land here at this very runway," Kavandi said. She was joined on the tarmac by Kennedy Space Center director Bob Cabana and Frank DiBello, executive director of Space Florida, the state's development agency for space, which manages the landing facility. Space Florida has signed a contract to allow use of the landing facility, and the Federal Aviation Administration has licensed the spaceplane for landings there, DiBello said.

Cabana said that Sierra Nevada's plans for Kennedy are further evidence that the space center is truly a multi-user, commercial spaceport rather than just a NASA facility. Sierra Nevada planned to tour the space center and adjacent Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on Tuesday and Wednesday to search for a suitable building to process Dream Chaser between launches, Kavandi said. "We'll look first at existing facilities on government property, but we may also consider building something ourselves if needed," she said. The company also plans to hire dozens of people in the region for processing and other possible engineering functions, she said. Sierra Nevada is one of a growing number of commercial space companies vying for NASA business. The company lost a competition in 2014 to SpaceX and Boeing to deliver astronauts to the space station using Dream Chaser. SpaceX delivered on its astronaut contract in 2020 with the Crew Dragon capsule, while Boeing still plans a test flight of the Starliner capsule later this year. But Sierra Nevada has won over $2 billion in NASA contracts to develop Dream Chaser as a reusable cargo vessel. The company plans at least seven cargo trips for NASA.

At just 30 feet long, the spacecraft is only one-quarter the size of the space shuttle. The spaceplane's ability to land at the space center instead of splashing down at sea like SpaceX's cargo capsule would result in a faster return of science and materials from the space station, according to NASA and Sierra Nevada. Dream Chaser would return to Earth under its own power. Since it doesn't carry people, no test flights beyond short drops from aircraft completed in 2013 and 2017 are required. The test flights were done with prototypes. The spacecraft has yet to launch as intended on a rocket sent into space. That rocket will be ULA's new Vulcan Centaur, which is being developed.

SpaceX is among several companies pursuing new, high-speed and global broadband coverage that could be used by ships at sea, residents in remote rural areas and possibly on trucks and large commercial vehicles. "To date, over half a million people have placed an order or put down a deposit for Starlink," said SpaceX operations engineer Siva Bharadvaj said during a launch broadcast. Scientists turn cellphone into a chemical detector

Scientists have trained a cellphone camera to perform spectroscopy, turning the handheld device into a chemical detector, capable of identifying drugs, biological molecules and pathogens, according to a study published Tuesday in the Review of Scientific Instruments. The device could be used for a variety of field applications, like surveying environmental contamination sites, screening for tainted food or diagnosing diseased crops, according to the researchers, from Texas A&M University. "[The] outstanding quality and sensitivity of cameras in modern day cell-phones can … be utilized as sensitive light detectors for various types of sensing," researchers wrote in the study. "There have already been several successful attempts to utilize cell-phone cameras as portable digital light microscope systems," they wrote.

To turn the cellphone into a chemical detector, researchers developed a small diode laser that can be affixed to the phone's camera. The accessory allows the cellphone to perform two kinds of spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy. Fluorescence spectroscopy measures the fluorescent light emitted by a sample, while Raman spectroscopy measures the vibrational frequency of target molecules. Raman spectroscopy is useful for identifying biological molecules, including DNA and RNA, which are typically less fluorescent.

Spectroscopy involves the detection and measurement of different wavelengths. Because different chemicals produce different spectral signatures, the digitized frequency spectrum captured by the cellphone camera can be used to identify the substances from which the light reflected off of or passed through. The diode laser used by the research team at Texas A&M attaches to the cellphone camera at a right angle, preventing ambient and back-reflected light from entering the camera lens. "In addition, this right-angle excitation geometry has the advantage of being easier to use for the analysis of samples where a bulk property is to be measured," lead author Peter Rentzepis said in a press release. To test the new device, researchers aimed the camera-laser system at a range of liquid targets, including ethanol, acetone, isopropyl alcohol and methanol. Scientists also captured spectral signatures from solid objects, including a carrot and pellet of bacteria. When researchers compared the spectral images captured by their cellphone system to the most sensitive commercial spectrometers, they found their images were about 10 times noisier. However, researchers suggest the sensitivity of their cellphone spectrometer could be improved by utilizing High Dynamic Range applications, HDR, which combine multiple exposures to boost clarity and eliminate spectral noise.

For now, scientists said the inexpensive handheld chemical detector comparable commercial technologies cost at least a few thousand dollars works well enough to be deployed in the field. "Our pocket sized designed and constructed Raman spectrometer system that utilizes right angle geometry to record Raman and resonance Raman spectra of molecules and biological species that contain colored pigments can be constructed for much lower cost," researchers wrote in the study.

Attorney General Garland: Biden DOJ Budget Includes $85M Increase to Probe Domestic Terrorism Cases

Attorney General Merrick Garland told House lawmakers Tuesday that the Biden Administration’s 2022 budget request for the Department of Justice (DOJ) would seek an $85 million increase from last year’s budget for domestic terrorism investigations and cases.

“Our budget supports my commitment to protecting our national security, including addressing both international and domestic terrorism while respecting civil liberties.” Garland testified to the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Commerce, Justice and Science. “It includes increases of $45 million for the FBI domestic terrorism investigations and $40 million for the U.S. attorneys to manage increasing domestic terrorism caseloads.”

The increase from last year’s budget for domestic terrorism cases comes as Democrats have sought to label Trump supporters who protested on January 6 at the Capitol as domestic terrorists, domestic violent extremists, and white supremacists. Committee Chairman Matt Cartwright (D-PA) said at the hearing the “attack on the Capitol” was an “unprecedented” threat from domestic violent extremism.

Garland testified during his confirmation hearing that his first priority as attorney general would be the investigation into January 6. So far, the DOJ has charged more than 400 people as part of that investigation.

Garland also said at Tuesday’s hearing the threat of domestic violent extremism and domestic terrorism keeps him up at night.

“My oath is to protect the Constitution and Americans from all enemies, both foreign and domestic,” he said. “And so both forms of terrorism are extraordinary concern to me. We never want to take our eyes off of what happened on 9/11 and that the risks that the country continues to face from foreign terrorist attacks on the homeland.”

“Likewise, we have a growing fear of domestic violent extremism and domestic terrorism and both of those keep me up at night…virtually every morning, I get a briefing from the FBI in one of the other or both areas,” he told the committee.

Committee Ranking Member Robert Aderholt (R-AL) pressed Garland on why the FBI classified the 2017 congressional baseball game shooting that targeted Republican members of Congress as a case of “suicide by cop” instead of domestic terrorism, despite the Department of Homeland Security and the Office of the Director of National Intelligence doing so, as previously reported by Breitbart News.

The attorney general said he had not yet had a chance to speak to the FBI about it and promised he would do so.

Users can see posts, images, and videos from Trump and share them to social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. The site currently does not have a way for users to comment or interact with the posts on the platform. "This is just a one-way communication," one source familiar with the platform Fox News. "This system allows Trump to communicate with his followers." Trump has already added a few posts to the site, including a video introducing users to the new platform that promises to be “straight from the desk of Donald J. Trump.”

Former President Donald Trump on Tuesday appeared to launch a new communications platform, coming several months after he was suspended from Facebook, Twitter, and other platforms.

The platform appears on Trump’s personal website. It includes social-media-like posts from the former president that can be shared to Facebook and Twitter.

It’s not clear whether the website will be developed into a full-fledged social media website. Currently, it’s not possible to create user accounts or reply to Trump’s posts, and Trump is the only poster.

“Heartwarming to read new polls on big-shot warmonger Liz Cheney of the great State of Wyoming,” reads Trump’s latest post. “She is so low that her only chance would be if vast numbers of people run against her which, hopefully, won’t happen. They never liked her much, but I say she’ll never run in a Wyoming election again!”

Following the Jan. 6 Capitol breach, Trump was suspended from Facebook and Twitter—with Twitter’s ban being indefinite. Facebook’s oversight board is slated to render a decision on Wednesday whether to allow the former commander-in-chief to return.

“The reaction to our decision shows the delicate balance private companies are being asked to strike,” said Nick Clegg, Facebook’s vice president of global affairs, said in a company blog post in January. “Some said that Facebook should have banned President Trump long ago, and that the violence on the Capitol was itself a product of social media; others that it was an unacceptable display of unaccountable corporate power over political speech,” he added.

In a video posted on Jan. 6, Trump called on protesters to “go home peacefully” and said that “we love you” and “you’re very special,” prompting concerns that he was speaking affectionately to the individuals who breached the Capitol, rather than the larger, more peaceful crowd who attended rallies at the time.

Since being de-platformed, Trump has relied on sending out emailed statements to issue endorsements and offer criticisms of certain politicians.

In March, a former Trump campaign advisor, Corey Lewandowski, said the former president will launch a social media website in three or four months.

“What we’ve seen from Big Tech and the cancel culture is if you don’t agree with their philosophy, they’re going to cancel you, and we’re going to have a platform where the president’s message of America First is going to be able to be put out to everybody and there’ll be an opportunity for other people to weigh in and communicate in a free format without fear of reprisal or being canceled,” he said in a Newsmax interview.

Coca-Cola pauses controversial diversity plan after abrupt departure of company's top lawyer

Coca-Cola has temporarily abandoned its diversity plan after general counsel Bradley Gayton, the architect of the company’s diversity policy, abruptly resigned last month. "When there is a leadership change, it takes time for the new leader to review the current status of the team, organization, and initiatives," said Coke spokesman Scott Leith, who said incoming general counsel Monica Howard Douglas will be reviewing the plan. "Monica is fully committed to the notions of equity and diversity in the legal profession, and we fully expect she will take the time necessary to thoughtfully review any plans going forward." Gayton announced a plan in January to punish outside law firms that did not meet Coca-Cola's diversity standards, threatening to slash their fees or stop doing business with the firms completely. The plan required outside law firms to have at least 30% of their bill time come from “diverse attorneys,” half of whom had to be black.

But the plan was controversial among many, including critics who questioned whether such a policy may violate Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. "The hard truth is that our profession is not treating the issue of diversity and inclusion as a business imperative," Gayton said at the time. "We have a crisis on our hands, and we need to commit ourselves to specific actions that will accelerate the diversity of the legal profession." The plan was just the start of a string of controversies for the company, including the February leak of company diversity training that urged employees to be “less white.” "In the U.S. and other Western nations, white people are socialized to feel that they are inherently superior because they are white," read one of the slides in the training. A different slide urged employees to "try to be less white" and "be less oppressive," "listen," "believe," and "break with white solidarity."

The following month, the company caused more controversy when its CEO came out in strong opposition to Georgia’s new election security law. "Let me be crystal clear and unequivocal — this legislation is unacceptable, it is a step backward, and it does not promote principles that we have stood for here in Georgia, around broad access to voting, around voter convenience, about ensuring election integrity, and this is frankly just a step backwards," CEO James Quincey said of the legislation. But shortly after voicing that opposition, the company seemingly began walking back its new embrace of social justice causes. “We believe the best way to make progress now is for everyone to come together to listen, respectfully share concerns and collaborate on a path forward. We remain open to productive conversations with advocacy groups and lawmakers who may have differing views," the company told the Washington Examiner. "It’s time to find common ground. In the end, we all want the same thing — free and fair elections, the cornerstone of our democracy.” That change of heart may have come about because the company was facing increasingly bitter backlash from conservative customers, with the majority of Republican voters polled indicating they planned to buy less of the company’s products in response to its activism. Gayton is said to be with the company still in an advisory role, though how much of his diversity plan will be carried over under his replacement is unclear.

Derek Chauvin's lawyer files motion requesting new trial

A lawyer for former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin filed a motion on Tuesday to request a new trial for his client. Eric Nelson argued in the document to the Hennepin County District Court that it "abused its discretion" on a number of matters, depriving Chauvin of a "fair trial." Last month, Chauvin was found guilty of second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in connection with the May 2020 death of George Floyd. Alleged CIA headquarters intruder shot dead by FBI agents

A suspected intruder who purportedly attempted to breach an entrance to the Central Intelligence Agency's Fairfax, Virginia, headquarters died after being shot by FBI agents on Monday. Roy Gordon Cole, who was known to the CIA as someone who may have been mentally unstable and attempted to drive into the facility before, approached the gate to the government compound and refused to move before negotiations ensued between him and law enforcement at the scene, NBC News reported. He then exited his car, claimed he was holding a bomb, and agents opened fire at about 6 p.m. Cole was declared dead at a local hospital, and no explosive device was recovered. “The FBI reviews every shooting incident involving an FBI special agent,” the bureau wrote in a statement to the Washington Examiner. “The review will carefully examine the circumstances of the shooting and collect all relevant evidence from the scene. As the review remains ongoing, we cannot provide any additional details at this time.”

Prior to the shootout, the CIA alerted the public that there was a "security incident" at the facility. "In coordination with our local law enforcement partners, we are addressing a security situation just outside the secure perimeter of CIA headquarters by our main gate on Route 123," a spokesperson said. "Our compound remains secured, and our security protective officers working the incident are the only agency personnel directly involved.” A temporary flight restriction was placed in the area at the time. A Roman statue that was allegedly en route to Kim Kardashian is now the subject of a lawsuit by the U.S. government. Sometimes considered an idol herself, Kardashian is named as an interested party in a lawsuit by the U.S. government regarding a sculpture of the lower half of a human figure. The civil forfeiture suit, filed with the U.S. District Court of Central California last Friday, said that the defendant's antique Roman statue was "smuggled and illegally exported from Italy." "Based on the information and scientific aspects [an] archaeologist provided, the archaeologist opined that the defendant statute was looted, smuggled and illegally exported from Italy," the filing read. The statue was reportedly on display at the booth of Brussels’s Axel Vervoordt gallery in the 2011 edition of the TEFAF art fair that displays antiquities, according to the lawsuit. After it was seized on June 15, 2016, in Los Angeles because "evidence showed that the defendant statue was designated archeological or ethnological material," authorities discovered the importer’s name was allegedly listed as "Kim Kardashian dba Noel Roberts Trust."

The reality TV star made headlines earlier this year when she filed for divorce from her husband, Kanye West, on Feb. 19, citing "irreconcilable differences." The details of the divorce, including custody of assets, such as artwork, are not yet known, though the pair agreed to joint custody of their four children. The Comando Carabinieri Tutela Patrimonio Culturale, the part of Italy's Ministry of Cultural Heritage that plays a role in the safety and protection of Italy's national cultural heritage, "requested that all efforts be made for the return of the defendant statue to Italy in accordance with the bilateral agreement between Italy and the United States," according to the filing. La Nina, the cooling of the equatorial Pacific waters that creates volatile weather worldwide, has produced dryness for California and contributed to a record-setting year of wildfires in the state in 2020. This week, Red Flag Warnings have been posted in the Bay Area, an ominous warning of things to come, according to local news ABC7.

California's top fire officials warn conditions are already ripe for wildfires - way ahead of schedule - and could quickly transpire into the worst wildfire season on record - even outpacing last year, where 9,639 fires burned 4,397,809 acres, more than 4% of the state's 100 million acres of land.

"Every acre in California can and will burn someday," said CAL FIRE Director Thom Porter. "I need not say here in the Bay Area how devastating it is when you're hillsides are on fire, some of your communities are on fire, and you're deep in smoke that looks like Armageddon for a week on end."

John Christopher Smith now in his 40s, had been working at J&J restaurant since he was 12, and started as a part-time dishwasher. Once Bobby Edwards took over in 2009 that was when the abuse started, according to the Court of Appeals, People reported. A Black South Carolina with intellectual disabilities who was forced to work 100 hours a week without pay and was physically and mentally tortured over a five-year-period by his former boss has been awarded $546,000 in restitution, double than what he was initially entitled to, the United States Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit ruled. John Christopher Smith, was initially awarded $273,000 in back payments stemming from all the years his former boss Bobby Paul Edwards at J&J Cafeteria, withheld payment, but the appeals court held that the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina did not include the federal labor laws in the initial decision, People reported. “Minimum wages and overtime compensation must be paid on a current basis as work is done, such that an employee receives the prescribed compensation without delay. When an employer fails to pay those amounts, the employee suffers losses, which includes the loss of the use of that money during the period of delay," the Court of Appeals wrote in its filing.

Edwards allegedly abused Smith between 2009 and 2014 subjecting Smith to physical and psychological abuse whenever he made a mistake or failed to work fast according to the Department of Justice (DOJ) release. Edwards beat the victim with a belt, fists, and pots and pans, they said. On one occasion, he allegedly dipped metal tongs into hot grease and burned the victim’s neck. Edwards also yelled at the victim and used racial slurs to belittle and demean him, the release said. In 2014, Edwards was removed from the restaurant after a concerned resident notified state authorities of the abuse taking place, the DOJ said. Smith, who is now in his 40s, had been working at J&J restaurant since he was 12-years-old, started off as a part-time dishwasher. Once Edwards took over in 2009 that was when the abuse started, according to the Court of Appeals, People reported. Smith told WMBF during a 2015 interview that he was diagnosed with delayed cognitive development and that he never reported the abuse because he was scared.

In Nov. 2019, Edwards, 53 a white man from Conway, SC, was sentenced to 10 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to one count of forced labor of coercing an African-American man with an intellectual disability to work extensive hours at a restaurant for no pay. He also admitted that he used violence, threats, isolation, and intimidation to enslave and abuse him, according to the DOJ. “It is almost inconceivable that instances of forced labor endure in this country to this day – a century and a half after the Emancipation Proclamation,” said Assistant Attorney General Eric Dreiband of the Civil Rights Division. “The Department of Justice will continue to investigate, prosecute, and convict human traffickers involved in forced labor, seeking justice on behalf of their victims.” “For stealing his victim’s freedom and wages, Mr. Edwards has earned every day of his sentence,” said U.S. Attorney Sherri A. Lydon for the District of South Carolina. “The U.S. Attorney’s Office will not tolerate forced or exploitative labor in South Carolina, and we are grateful to the watchful citizen and our partners in law enforcement who put a stop to this particularly cruel violence.”

Assistant Attorney General John Gore said in a statement. “Edwards abused an African-American man with intellectual disabilities by coercing him to work long hours in a restaurant without pay,” Gore said. “Human trafficking through forced labor can happen on farms, in homes, and as today’s case shows, in public places, such as restaurants.” He continued, “Combatting human trafficking by forced labor is one of the highest priorities of this Justice Department and today’s guilty plea reflects our commitment to seeking justice on behalf of victims of human trafficking.”

The head of infection control at the agency running Victoria's hotel quarantine program has been stood down after allegedly breaching their own protocols twice in the past two months.

"This issue with [Matiu] Bush goes more to [their] attitude and behaviour: there were infection control breaches, but they were of a very low level," Mr Pearson said.

"Public confidence is paramount, and I don't think the public would want to see someone in a senior leadership role continue to behave in this way, that's why [they have] been stood down."

The head of CQV, Emma Cassar, said the breaches were minor but disappointing.

She said the first incident involved Matiu Bush refusing to get tested at one quarantine hotel after a request by ADF personnel, but they were eventually tested at another site.

"[They] still met the requirement to have a daily test … but my understanding is the staff member did make comments about the fact [they] didn't need to be tested at that site," Ms Cassar said.

"We expect the highest standards from our staff, and this has fallen well short of that."

Another incident involved the infection control manager getting a coffee from a coffee shop and coming back to a quarantine hotel without changing their mask or sanitising.

Government stands by claim nebuliser sparked February outbreak

The leaked incident reports detailing the breaches were published in The Australian newspaper, which also published an internal report contradicting claims by the government that an outbreak at the Holiday Inn quarantine hotel in February was caused by a banned nebuliser.

Instead, the CQV infection control report said the "proposed working hypothesis" was that the leak was caused by a staff member who took an extended amount of time to swab a guest.

Big Tech's censorship continues with the deplatforming of an information provider that goes against their beliefs and agenda regarding coronavirus vaccines.

In a quick series of notices and emails to LifeSiteNews’ marketing department, Facebook delivered the shocking news, accusing LifeSite of publishing “false information about COVID-19 that could contribute to physical harm.”

Rear Adm. Darse E. Crandall of the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General’s Corps began the proceedings by painting Podesta as a sanctimonious, smug lackey whom Hillary Clinton had recruited into her “nefarious cabal” in the early 1990s. Podesta’s unquenchable thirst for power and Clinton Cash morphed a barely competent attorney into a literal “yes man” who sacrificed his soul and committed unspeakable crimes to appease his Clinton masters, Rear Adm. Crandall told the three-officer, all-female panel picked to judge the merits of the military’s case.

In full dress uniform of their respective branches, the officers heard Rear Adm. Crandall rifle off names of 50 male and female minors Podesta had allegedly molested between 2003-2014. The admiral produced a dozen sworn affidavits from victims who had escaped Podesta’s clutches. Now adults, most were between 9 and 12 years old when Podesta convinced the victims’ parents that their children were being groomed for a future in politics, modelling, or Hollywood stardom. Two affidavits, authored by unrelated persons who did not know each other, told a strikingly similar story.

In July 2012, 10-year-old Henry Rayburn (not his real name) was introduced to Podesta as a friend of his parents, Washington socialites who spent more time hobnobbing at diplomatic soirees than they did caring for their child. Henry’s parents did not blink twice when Podesta offered to take young Henry on a trip to Disneyworld to meet Micky Mouse. According to the affidavit, Podesta chartered a private plane and “chaperoned” a group of four children to Orlando.

Rear Adm. Crandall read part of it aloud to the panel: “I never met Micky Mouse. After arriving in Florida, John Podesta told us we were going to a hotel and he was going to order pizza and soda for us to eat before meeting Micky. As much as I’ve tried to forget it, I remember one thing vividly: feeling lightheaded and dizzy after eating and waking up in sweat, blindfolded, face down and strapped down to a metal table in what I now know was an abandoned warehouse. I hurt all over, hurt so bad I thought it had to have been a nightmare. I tried to scream, but my words came out slow and odd. I heard John Podesta’s voice saying ‘this is the best time to draw blood’ as someone else, at least I assume it was someone else, sodomized me. I drifted into unconsciousness again, and then remember waking up on the airplane back to D.C. Podesta wasn’t on the plane, or at least I didn’t see him. Another man I didn’t recognize told me I was being sent home early because I had gotten sick and wouldn’t be able to meet Micky Mouse. I asked about the other kids and was told they were still in Orlando. When I told my parents, they tried to convince me that my imagination had been playing tricks on me, even though I was bruised all over and had huge hematomas on my forearms where they’d done blood draws. HARRISBURG, Pa. - Pennsylvania is soon lifting almost all of its COVID-19 mitigation orders. Effective at 12:01 a.m. on Memorial Day, May 31, the state is lifting orders including caps on indoor and outdoor gatherings, as well as capacity limits, announced Gov. Tom Wolf's administration, in a news release Tuesday. “We continue to make significant progress in the fight to stop the spread of COVID-19 and as more Pennsylvania adults get vaccinated and guidance from the CDC evolves, we can continue to move forward with our reopening efforts,” ​Department of Health Acting Secretary Alison Beam said in a statement. The statewide mask mandate remains in effect. Wolf said it will be lifted when 70% of Pennsylvanians ages 18 and older are fully vaccinated.

As of Tuesday, the state health department said 50% of all Pennsylvanians have received at least first doses of the vaccine. Officials said municipalities and school districts can still continue and implement stricter mitigation efforts. The state is also keeping in place testing and reporting requirements for hospitals and long-term care facilities, in order to monitor COVID-19 spread. "Pennsylvania’s small business taverns and licensed restaurants are certainly ready for this change as the past 14 months have been some of the worst in industry history. There are countless stories of financial ruin and jobs lost," said Chuck Moran, executive director of the Pennsylvania Licensed Beverage and Tavern Association. "But now the time has come in which we can move into a full recovery mode. It’s time to make the come back greater than the set back."

Minneapolis police are refusing to enter the George Floyd Autonomous Zone, with emergency responders instructing a bleeding woman who was pushed out of a window to go to them.

Known as “George Floyd Square,” or “The Free State of George Floyd,” the area surrounding the death site of Floyd has been operating as an Autonomous Zone independent from control of the police or emergency services since September last year, encompassing seven to eight blocks in total. With police refusing to enter lest they face violent reprisals from radical antifa or Black Lives Matter activists, victims of crime are left to fend for themselves, or meet police outside the zone.

One particularly disturbing incident took place at the end of last month, where a female victim was pushed out of a window in a domestic dispute on the corner of 38th and Elliot. Police dispatch audio revealed the attitude taken by police regarding breaching the George Floyd Autonomous Zone. “Is it possible to have her move at least a block away, maybe [to] 38 and 10th?” asked the police officer responding to her 911 call. “She is bleeding and cut everywhere, but we’ll call her back and ask her to move a block away,” the dispatcher responded, with the woman ordered to move, despite her severe injuries.

District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson criticized former Attorney General William Barr and the Department of Justice in a ruling ordering the release of a memo related to the Mueller report. Berman Jackson wrote in her partially-redacted ruling that the federal government must release a memo analyzing whether or not the Justice Department should have charged former President Donald Trump with a crime in connection with the Mueller probe. In doing so, she claimed that Barr was “disingenuous” in his characterization of the Mueller report’s findings. Barr released a summary of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report on alleged Russian involvement in the 2016 presidential election before the report was redacted and released to the public.

In the summary, Barr noted the principal finding of the report, that “the investigation did not establish that members of the Trump Campaign conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in its election interference activities,” even as “there were two main Russian efforts to influence the 2016 election.” Mueller later objected to Barr’s characterization, saying that it did not “did not fully capture the context, nature and substance” of the special counsel’s investigation. Mueller did not, however, say that he believed Barr’s summary was inaccurate, but that the media and congressional Democrats misinterpreted the announcement. The Center for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW), a liberal watchdog group, filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request demanding that the Justice Department release “all documents pertaining to the views OLC [Office of Legal Counsel] provided Attorney General Barr on whether the evidence developed by Special Counsel Mueller is sufficient to establish that the President committed an obstruction-of-justice offense.” Although the Justice Department released 33 documents pursuant to the FOIA request, it withheld 28. In directing the Justice Department to release one of the 28 withheld documents, Berman Jackson wrote that the “DOJ has been disingenuous to this Court with respect to the existence of a decision-making process that should be shielded by the deliberative process privilege.” The deliberative process privilege refers to a rule that allows the federal government to shield documents that consist of “advisory opinions, recommendations and deliberations” towards decision making. “The review of the document in camera reveals that there was no decision actually being made as to whether the then-President should be prosecuted,” Berman Jackson wrote. The Department of Justice will have two weeks to either release the document in question or appeal Berman Jackson’s order.

Pfizer sees ‘durable demand’ for COVID-19 vaccine as it boosts sales forecast

Pfizer Inc on Tuesday raised its forecast for 2021 COVID-19 vaccine sales by more than 70 per cent to US$26 billion and said demand from governments around the world trying to halt the pandemic could contribute to its growth for years to come. The company said it expects by the end of this month to file for full approval of the vaccine for people over the age of 16 in the United States, where it is currently only authorized for emergency use. It also expects to hear soon from U.S. regulators on the expansion of the vaccine’s emergency use authorization (EUA) for children ages 12-15. Revenue from the vaccine – developed with German partner BioNTech SE – is expected to account for more than one third of Pfizer’s full-year sales this year. The forecast is based on already signed contracts for 1.6 billion vaccine doses to be delivered this year. The company said it expects to sign more deals for this year and is in supply talks with several countries for 2022 and beyond. “Based on what we’ve seen, we believe that a durable demand for our COVID-19 vaccine – similar to that of the flu vaccines – is a likely outcome,” Chief Executive Albert Bourla said.

The two-shot vaccine was Pfizer’s top-selling product in the first quarter. Expenses and profit from the vaccine are split 50-50 between Pfizer and BioNTech. Given persistent infections globally and ongoing discussions with governments, Mizuho analyst Vamil Divan said the 2021 forecast could increase further and also spill over to latter years. Daily vaccination rates for adults in the United States have started to slow, off more than 25 per cent since hitting a peak in mid-April. Authorization in younger children would expand the vaccine-eligible population by millions of people. Pfizer said it expects to have safety and efficacy data for children ages 2-to-11 in September, when it plans to ask for further expansion of the EUA for that age group. Pfizer and BioNTech aim to produce up to 2.5 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses this year, 900 million of which are not yet included in the New York-based drugmaker’s sales forecast.

If Pfizer sells that number of doses at similar prices, the vaccine’s sales in 2021 could be more than 50 per cent above the projected US$26 billion. Moderna In has forecast US$18.4 billion in 2021 sales of its similar COVID-19 vaccine. Pfizer has said it expects to profit from the vaccine, while some drugmakers including Johnson & Johnson have said their vaccine will be sold on a not-for-profit basis until the end of the pandemic. Pfizer aims to manufacture at least 3 billion doses of the vaccine next year. It generated US$3.5 billion in revenue in the first quarter, exceeding analysts’ estimates of US$3.28 billion, according to IBES data from Refinitiv. Total revenue for the quarter of US$14.6 billion, topped analyst forecasts of US$13.5 billion. Pfizer could use the vaccine profit to invest in research and development of other treatments and on deals to spur future growth, said Edward Jones analyst Ashtyn Evans. The company already said it is boosting R&D spending to fuel drug discovery using the messenger RNA technology in the COVID-19 vaccine. The company is developing two flu vaccines that are expected to enter clinical trials in the third quarter. Pfizer shares were up slightly in morning trading.

5 Charged In Human Smuggling Operation In Houston

Five people face federal charges in an alleged human smuggling operation in Houston. On Monday, the DOJ announced the charges after Houston Police recently found nearly 100 illegal immigrants held in a house.

Authorities said the migrants were locked in two separate rooms of the residence and dressed only in their undergarments. Police added, there was a possible COVID-19 outbreak among the group.

“We are in a pandemic and we do have some people in the house that are symptomatic,” Assistant Houston Police Chief D.B. Edwards stated. “So, we’ve already had some people in the house tell us they’re not able to smell and not able to taste. And we did have some people with fever. So we’ve got the Health Department going to do some rapid testing and kind of take it from there.”

The suspects face federal smuggling charges. If convicted, each suspect faces up to 10 years in federal prison and a possible $250,000 fine.
