A Mafia fugitive has been caught in his Caribbean hideaway — after being spotted in YouTube cooking videos he made with his wife, Italian police said Monday.
Marc Feren Claude Biart, 53, had been on the run since 2014, when Italian prosecutors ordered his arrest for alleged cocaine trafficking for the Cacciola clan of the ‘Ndrangheta Mafia, Agence France-Presse said.
He managed to lead a quiet life in Boca Chica in the Dominican Republic — until he showed off his Italian cooking skills on a YouTube channel, police said, according to the news agency.
While Biart attempted to hide his face, he was betrayed by distinctive tattoos on his body, the agency said, without elaborating on their distinctive features.
The video was part of a cooking channel he set up with his wife, according to Calabria News. He had otherwise lived like a “ghost” among the large Italian community in Boca Chica, with locals just knowing him as “Marc,” the outlet said.
Biart was shown being escorted by Interpol to a jet that took him to Milan, where he was arrested as soon as he landed, according to the report. His bust was a key development for the specialist operation dubbed I-CAN, for Interpol Cooperation Against ‘Ndrangheta.
The ‘Ndrangheta is considered one of the world’s most powerful crime syndicates due to its control of most of the cocaine entering Europe, AFP said.
It has extended its reach across all parts of the world, and it has long surpassed Sicily’s Cosa Nostra as Italy’s biggest Mafia organization.

Louisiana’s unique open primary election system and move to closed party primaries, a public disagreement between some of the state’s top Republican officials has emerged over the question.
Attorney General Jeff Landry, state Sen. Sharon Hewitt and U.S. Rep. Steve Scalise are among those spearheading the effort to move to closed primaries, where Democrats and Republicans would hold separate contests to decide who each party would send to a general election.

U.S. officials issued what was intended to be a sobering warning Monday that the COVID-19 pandemic could still get a whole lot worse.
Their unusually emotional message carried obvious international implications, especially given that the U.S. has already vaccinated its citizens at a rate triple Canada's.
The theme of a White House briefing Monday was that this is a terrible time for the country to let down its guard and reopen as some states are doing.
The head of the Centers for Disease Control, Rochelle Walensky, said she plans to speak with state governors Tuesday to encourage continued mask-wearing and physical distancing.
She said U.S. case loads had risen 10 per cent in a week, and hospitalizations and deaths are ticking up again. She said the country is on the same trajectory as some European countries were a few weeks ago before they hurtled into their latest wave.
"We are not powerless; we can change this trajectory of the pandemic," she said. "But it will take all of us recommitting to following public health-prevention strategies."
Walensky said she was pleading with Americans as a physician who had seen the death and human suffering caused by COVID-19, and as a wife, mother and daughter.
"I'm going to reflect on the recurring feeling I have of impending doom," she said as she went off script.
"We have so much to look forward to … so much reason for hope, but right now, I'm scared."
When later asked to elaborate on her reference to "impending doom," Walensky said:
"We know that travel is up, and I just worry that we will see the surges that we saw in the summer and the winter again."

Over Twitter, Canada’s ambassador to the Philippines expressed opposition to “recent Chinese actions” in the contested waterway.

It is a union of two different divine energies, both masculine and feminine, and has really nothing to do with the actual 'sex' of the body itself. The energy signature is the only thing that necessarily needs to be present.
Although, I do prefer to be in a heterosexual based relationship, I realize, wholeheartedly, that once you comes to terms with the fact that we all initiate gestational growth as a female, and then if criteria is met, change growth instruction sets to the male counter-part.
So, to exclaim that one must be strictly with a male or female in order to achieve a certain level of sexual/spiritual maturity is just a matter of preference, and nothing more. Any further contemplation on the idea, of 'mixing' divine masculine and feminine energies should be directed towards the art and practice of 'kundalini tantra.'
As far as waiting for the right person, and having faith that they will come to the right decision on a path of their consent and choosing, is only one out of any aspects of this vast reality that we need to be more concerned about. Yes, in a silent war of shadows, it would be nice to be able to attain a higher state of deep sexual epiphanies, but sometimes, it's just not in the cards… yet, maybe.

Journalist Can’t Sue Rod Rosenstein for Alleged Illegal Spying on Her Family During Obama Admin Because of Qualified Immunity
Television journalist Sharyl Attkisson and her family sued former deputy attorney general Rod Rosenstein for illegally spying on them in violation of the Fourth Amendment and federal law during the Obama administration. A federal court dismissed the lawsuit earlier this week by finding that Rosenstein is entitled to qualified immunity.
The controversy has taken numerous paths through the legal system since the Attkissons claimed they discovered that the government had hacked into their computers and cellphones in 2014—first filing a lawsuit against former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder, former U.S. Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe, and numerous “John Doe” agents with the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) based on alleged violations of the First and Fourth Amendments.
The Tuesday decision notes the case’s initial claims:
The Plaintiffs had specifically alleged that Holder was personally involved in discussions that centered on Sharyl’s “Fast and Furious” reporting, and that he directed one of his aides to “get a ‘handle’” on her reporting. The Plaintiffs also alleged that Donahoe was ultimately responsible for the use of the USPS network to infiltrate the Attkissons’ devices and the unconstitutional monitoring of mail as part of a mass surveillance program.
In January 2020, based on new information from an anonymous source, the Attkissons tried again. This time they alleged that Rosenstein along with several other named defendants—including the FBI’s former D.C. head Shawn Henry—directly facilitated the spying and violated their Fourth Amendment rights as well as two statutory violations of the Electronic Communications Privacy Act.
Rosenstein and Henry responded to the lawsuit with a motion to dismiss based on qualified immunity and other grounds.
On Tuesday, U.S. District Court Judge Richard Bennett in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland ruled in all the defendants’ favor—dismissing the case against Rosenstein, Henry and even the defendants who didn’t ask the court to dismiss the lawsuit.
Judge Bennett found that the Fourth Amendment claims were barred by collateral estoppel—the legal doctrine that bars courts from constantly re-litigating the same basic claims. Here, the court determined that the Attkissons’ claim, known as a Bivens claim, had already been litigated against Holder. A Bivens claim is the only remedy for suing a federal agent who deprives a person of their constitutional rights and is based on the landmark Supreme Court case of Bivens v. Six Unknown Named Agents.

Trump must face 'Apprentice' contestant's defamation lawsuit -NY court
NEW YORK (Reuters) - New York state's highest court on Tuesday cleared the way for a former contestant on "The Apprentice" to sue Donald Trump for defamation, after the former U.S. president called her a liar for accusing him of sexual assault.
Trump had argued before leaving the White House on Jan. 20 that Summer Zervos could not pursue her case because a sitting president could not be sued, but the state Court of Appeals said in a brief order that "the issues presented have become moot."
Zervos' case will now return to a Manhattan trial court, where her lawyers may have an opportunity to question Trump under oath. The case had been on hold during Trump's appeal.
"Now a private citizen, the defendant has no further excuse to delay justice for Ms. Zervos, and we are eager to get back to the trial court and prove her claims," Beth Wilkinson, a lawyer for Zervos, said in an email.
Lawyers for Trump did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Zervos came forward during the 2016 presidential campaign with accusations that Trump subjected her to unwanted kissing and groping after she sought career advice in 2007, two years after her appearance on his reality television show.
She sued Trump in January 2017 after he branded such allegations by women "lies" and retweeted a post calling Zervos' claims a "hoax."
Zervos has sought a retraction or an apology, plus compensatory damages and punitive damages.
Trump has denied Zervos' claims, and called her case politically motivated.
Former Elle magazine columnist E. Jean Carroll is also suing Trump for defamation, after he denied having raped her in the Bergdorf Goodman department store in Manhattan in the mid-1990s.
Trump has also denied claims by several other women of improper sexual conduct.

A joint WHO-China study on the origins of COVID-19 says that transmission of the virus from bats to humans through another animal is the most likely scenario and that a lab leak is "extremely unlikely," according to a draft copy obtained by The Associated Press.
The findings offer little new insight into how the virus first emerged and leave many questions unanswered, though that was as expected. But the report does provide more detail on the reasoning behind the researchers' conclusions. The team proposed further research in every area except the lab leak hypothesis.
The report, which is expected to be made public Tuesday, is being closely watched since discovering the origins of the virus could help scientists prevent future pandemics — but it's also extremely sensitive since China bristles at any suggestion that it is to blame for the current one. Repeated delays in the report's release have raised questions about whether the Chinese side was trying to skew its conclusions.
"We've got real concerns about the methodology and the process that went into that report, including the fact that the government in Beijing apparently helped to write it," U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a recent CNN interview.
