Insanity on Stilts: Iraqi Official Claims ‘Trumpist Sleeper Cells’ Behind Rocket Attack

As insane as it is, this was inevitable: now the left’s fantasy about “terrorist Trump supporters” has gone international. Rockets hit coalition forces near Erbil International Airport in Iraq last Monday, killing a civilian contractor and a member of the U.S. military. The following day, Iraqi Sheikh Mohammad Al-Basry, a former official of the Popular Mobilization Forces (PMU), which are primarily Shi’a groups that fought against the Islamic State, appeared on Iraq’s Iraqiya TV to blame “Trumpist sleeper cells” for the attack. No, you are not reading Stephen Green’s Insanity Wrap. This is just a bit of miscellaneous insanity.

The host of the show said to Al-Basry, according to the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI): “Some people say that the rocket attack (on Erbil) was a terrorist act, and a malicious one at that.”

Wait, what? A terrorist act that was also malicious? What does a non-malicious terrorist act look like? I hope that will be a matter for another Iraqiya TV program. In the meantime, the host immediately started into his audition for MSNBC, saying: “The Biden administration has been talking in a calmer and more reasonable fashion with regard to Iran, and wants to resume negotiations with Iran (over the JCPOA). Therefore, it is unreasonable, at this stage that Iran would carry out such an act, the reaction for which could influence Iran’s nuclear program, to say the least.”

Mohammad Al-Basry responded: “Let me tell you my opinion, which could sound a bit exceptional [no kidding], but take it as it is and look it up [where?]. Biden’s rise to power has definitely opened new horizons for negotiations, whether in the Middle East, with China, or with the rest of the world, in order to (counter) decisions taken by Donald Trump. Before Trump left office, he warned and threatened, because he did not want the new administration to succeed.”

So far, neither the host nor Al-Basry said anything that couldn’t form the basis for the next Cuomo Brothers skit. But then Al-Basry added that Trump “has old alliances in the Middle East, and specifically in the Gulf and in Iraq. It is inconceivable that Trump would just leave things as they are and get out. Through these alliances, he established Trumpist sleeper cells that are trying to cause disturbances for the Biden administration and to cause a crisis between Washington and Tehran.”

Trumpist sleeper cells! You can just see them out there with their red MIGA hats, chanting “The election was stolen!” as they set off these rockets.

Despite having a severe case of TDS himself, this was too much even for the interviewer, who replied: “It’s a very strange thing to say that Trump, or Trumpist groups, targeted Erbil.”

To that, Al-Basry pointed out that “in the second day after the Biden administration took office, an explosion happened in Tayaran Square [in Baghdad], followed by [ISIS] attacks in the Diyala and the Salah Al-Din governorates.” Rather than ascribing this to Iran taking advantage of a weak puppet and appeaser in the Oval Office, Al-Basry asked: “Is it difficult for Trump to recruit militias? He had wanted to attack Iran.”

Kyrgyz Ex-Deputy Custom Chief, Matraimov, Back in Jail

A Bishkek court has put Raimbek Matraimov, former deputy head of the Kyrgyzstan’s Customs Service, in pre-trial detention on Saturday, after the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) rearrested him last week.

Matraimov was arrested on Thursday and is being investigated for money laundering, the Committee said in a statement. He was kept in detention for 48 hours, after which the Pervomaisky District Court of Bishkek decided to place the controversial official in pre-trial detention for at least two months, according to OCCRP Kyrgyz partner, Kloop.

Matraimov’s lawyer, Madina Niyazova, said she would appeal the ruling, the news outlet said.

Earlier this month Matraimov pleaded guilty to orchestrating numerous corruption schemes and agreed to testify against his accomplices.

Following his confession, the court only ordered Matraimov to pay a US$3,000 fine, claiming that he had already paid back to the Kyrgyz state some US$24 million which allegedly vanished in the corruption schemes he was linked to.

The court’s decision prompted hundreds to hit the streets of Bishkek and protest the mild ruling, demanding a harsh sentence. Days later the GKNB arrested Matraimov again.

The U.S. Embassy in Bishkek hailed Matraimov’s second arrest “on charges of corruption and money laundering.”

“We are committed to working with Kyrgyz law enforcement to identify and, if proven, return stolen Kyrgyz assets to the Kyrgyz people,” the Embassy tweeted.

Raimbek Matraimov is the subject of several investigations published by OCCRP, RFE/RL, Kloop and Bellingcat through the course of several months. The investigations uncovered how he used his political connections to help funnel an estimated $700 million out of Kyrgyzstan to a dozen countries across the world.

Merrick Garland: Portland Riots May Not Be ‘Domestic Terrorism’ Because Courthouse Was Closed

Judge Merrick Garland told the Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday that Antifa’s attacks on the U.S. courthouse in Portland last year may not have been “domestic terrorism,” because unlike the Capitol riot, they took place at night when the court was not “in operation.”

Garland, who is President Joe Biden’s nominee for U.S. Attorney General, was questioned at his confirmation hearing by Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO):

Sen. Hawley: Let me ask you about assaults on federal property in places other than Washington, DC — Portland, for instance, Seattle. Do you regard assaults on federal courthouses or other federal property as acts of domestic extremism, domestic terrorism?

Judge Garland: Well, Senator, my own definition, which is about the same as the statutory definition, is the use of violence or threats of violence in attempt to disrupt the democratic processes. So an attack on a courthouse, while in operation, trying to prevent judges from actually deciding cases, that plainly is domestic extremism, domestic terrorism. An attack simply on a government property at night, or any other kind of circumstances, is a clear crime and a serious one, and should be punished. I don’t know enough about the facts of the example you’re talking about. But that’s where I draw the line. One is — both are criminal, but one is a core attack on our democratic institutions.

Last August, then-Attorney General William Barr described the attacks on the courthouse:

Behind the veil of “protests,” highly organized violent operators have carried out direct attacks on federal personnel and property, particularly the federal courthouse in Portland. Shielded by the crowds, which make it difficult for law enforcement to detect or reach them, violent opportunists in Portland have attacked the courthouse and federal officers with explosives, lasers, projectiles, and other dangerous devices. In some cases, purported “journalists” or “legal observers” have provided cover for the violent offenders; in others, individuals wearing supposed press badges have themselves attacked law enforcement or trespassed on federal property. More than 200 federal officers have been injured in Portland alone.

The riots resulted in the front of the courthouse being boarded up; the destruction of security equipment protecting the courthouse; and the breaking of windows in the offices of federal prosecutors.

Garland cited the domestic terrorism statute, which defines “domestic terrorism” as follows (18 USC § 2331):

(5) the term “domestic terrorism” means activities that— (A) involve acts dangerous to human life that are a violation of the criminal laws of the United States or of any State; (B) appear to be intended— (i) to intimidate or coerce a civilian population; (ii) to influence the policy of a government by intimidation or coercion; or (iii) to affect the conduct of a government by mass destruction, assassination, or kidnapping; and (C) occur primarily within the territorial jurisdiction of the United States

Notably, the statute does not confine acts of domestic terrorism to working hours.

Blinken Welcomes EU Decision to Sanction Russia Over Navalny Situation

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has welcomed the decision of the European Union to slap sanctions against Russia under the human rights sanctions regime over the situation with Russian opposition figure Alexey Navalny, State Department Spokesperson Ned Price said in a readout on Monday.

Earlier in the day, EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said that the bloc agreed to expand sanctions against Moscow over the situation with Navalny during.

"The Secretary welcomed the EU’s decision to impose sanctions against Russia under the human rights sanctions regime in response to actions taken against Aleksey Navalny and his supporters," Price said.

The Russian Foreign Ministry said the decision is disappointing, noting that Moscow considers calls to release Navalny unacceptable and unlawful.

"We consider categorically unacceptable the constantly sounding unlawful and absurd demands for the 'release' of a citizen of the Russian Federation who was convicted of economic crimes by a Russian court on the territory of our country in accordance with Russian law," the Russian Foreign Ministry stated.

In addition, the ministry accused the EU of interfering in Russia's internal affairs over the threat of new sanctions.

President Joe Biden’s nominee for attorney general Merrick Garland avoided directly addressing whether biological males should compete in women’s sports during the first day of his confirmation hearing.

Garland discussed the much-contested issue with Republican Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy before the Senate Judiciary Committee Monday.

“I’m going to ask you if you agree with this statement,” Kennedy told the attorney general nominee. “Allowing…biological males to compete in an all-female sport deprives women of the opportunity to participate fully and fairly in sports and is fundamentally unfair to female athletes.”

“This is a very difficult societal question,” Garland told Kennedy, to which the senator responded, “I know, but you’re going to be attorney general.”

I’ve been thinking about the SCOTUS actions of today. I’m a lawyer. Been retired a long time but I worked at a huge international law firm for years and worked on many cases that involved extensive legal research using Supreme Court cases; even so, I do not consider myself to be an expert in constitutional law because I’ve been out of it too long. Ok, enough credentialing.

First of all I do not think that the Great Awakening hinges on anything SCOTUS does.

Second, historically SCOTUS will take the most narrow view possible in any matter. This means given half a chance the court will slither out of taking a stand.

[Also, as a footnote, I think it is a mistake to appoint academics to the high court because they have so little practical experience. Their existence is comprised of niggling argumentation. (Makes me nuts) Look at who dissented the loudest—Thomas. Not an academic. He alone truly understands the practical aspects of a corrupt election.]

Ok. Here’s what I think was Trump’s aim was with respect to all his judicial appointments: to end judicial activism and social engineering. Read: Roe v. Wade and other cases.

Yes, the judiciary is somewhat connected to Q’s messaging. But the judiciary is NOT the driver. The Q story is political. The courts should not ever be political by design of the founders. Trump was trying to move the entire judiciary back to the founding principles so as to undo many years of judicial activism. I think this part of the story is still inconclusive but even in the 9th Circuit huge positive change has happened.

Finally, I think that we make a mistake of thinking we have any idea whatsoever how this movie ends. I was stunned that Trump was not inaugurated. But looking back I am starting to think the Great Awakening hasn’t yet happened—it’s only started.

So in conclusion, I’m not surprised the SCOTUS kicked the can (but I’m with Thomas and think it was wrong to not hear the cases. I think that Kavanaugh and Barrett were put there for non-political purposes. (I think they might also be afraid of being Trump sycophants which would make them cowards if so, but we have no way of knowing that.)

The SCOTUS decisions today are going to be looked on as irrelevant after all is said and done. So, everyone, don’t be discouraged. The military is the main actor.

Think about it logically.

The only way is the military. Fully controlled.

What do you know? It turns out a critic of TGP’s article on the obvious questionable election results in Colorado neglected to disclose that his wife worked for Sequoia and Dominion Voting Machines for more than a decade.

We reported ten days ago on the suspect and questionable results in Colorado in the 2020 election.

One individual by the name of Matt Crane claimed to be a “strong conservative and very proud republican” in an email to top Republicans. He challenged our report but never reached out to us. He did, however, have the gall to reach out to state Republicans and disparage our report. One of those who received his email provided it to us. We responded to Crane’s email in an article yesterday.

We weren’t really sure why a ‘conservative and very proud republican’ (as Crane referred to himself) would write the email Crane sent out. We mentioned this in our post and provided in our rebuttal three things never addressed by Crane:

Well, overnight we discovered that there is more to this Matt Crane individual. He was the former Clerk and Recorder in Arapahoe County. We located support for this in various articles, even one report that mentions the woman who took his job:

Arapahoe County Clerk and Recorder Joan Lopez had no elections experience prior to being elected clerk. And it’s showing — frequently — in ways that should make every resident question her ability to fulfill her duties.

The article goes on to mention how the new Clerk and Recorder blocked individuals on Twitter:

But she didn’t just block me. At least three fellow constituents were also blocked, including former Deputy Secretary of State Suzanne Staiert and Lisa Flanagan-Crane (Lopez’s predecessor’s wife).

Colorado Bill Would Limit Mail-In Voting, the Country's "Gold Standard"

State senator Paul Lundeen isn't just mailing it in this legislative session.

Even though state Republican leaders agree that the November 2020 elections in Colorado — home base of Dominion Voting Systems, the focus of voter-fraud rumors around the country over the past few months — came off without a hitch, five pieces of legislation have already been introduced to change the state's voting procedures, including Lundeen's controversial proposal regarding Colorado's vote-by-mail system.

Since 2013, all registered Colorado voters have automatically received their ballots in the mail, with the option of casting those ballots or voting in person instead. But SB 007 would require that registered voters indicate that they would like to receive a mail-in ballot; otherwise, they would not get one automatically and would instead have to vote at an in-person site. And under the proposal, those sites would only be open for a seven-day period — the six days before Election Day and Election Day itself.

"What we're trying to do here is get the conversation going," Lundeen explains. "Colorado is good; what can we do to make it better?"

Colorado isn't alone in looking at its election system. The Brennan Center for Justice at New York University has been tracking all election-reform bills that have been introduced, pre-filed or carried over by state legislatures so far in 2021. Its latest report, dated February 8, notes that 706 election-reform bills have been proposed by legislators in forty states. Of those,165 are what the center calls "restrictive bills" that, like Lundeen's, seek to bolster election confidence by increasing restrictions throughout the voting process. Meanwhile, lawmakers have also introduced 541 "expansive bills" designed to reduce barriers to voter access.

The number of bills is unusual, according to the Brennan Center; by early February of the 2020 session, only 223 election-reform bills had been introduced. And the center's February 8 count didn't include Lundeen's bill or other Colorado proposals — such as SB 21-010, which calls for more stringent ballot signature verification requirements, and HB 1053, which broadens criteria for who can request a recount.

In fact, Lundeen says, his proposal was inspired in part by the absence of any Colorado bills in the Brennan Center's recent report. "I figured if it's a 1-to-4 Republican-to-Democrat ratio of people that think we should be doing the work to improve election confidence, that's something that is bipartisan in nature, and we ought to be looking into it," he explains.

But others question how bipartisan the effort really is. Within 48 hours of the introduction of Lundeen's bill, Denver Clerk and Recorder Paul López and Secretary of State Jena Griswold both released statements criticizing the proposal. Their statements note that the vast majority of voters relied on vote-by-mail in the most recent election; according to data from the Secretary of State's Office, 94 percent of Colorado voters used the vote-by-mail system in the 2020 election.

They also point out that Colorado's voting system has been widely called the "gold standard," partly because it was the first to adopt a robust, risk-limiting audit for its ballot counts — and that audit confirmed the accuracy of 2020's tally, López notes.

The wife of Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera, leader of a Mexican drug trafficking organization known as the Sinaloa Cartel, was arrested today in Virginia on charges related to her alleged involvement in international drug trafficking.

Emma Coronel Aispuro, 31, a dual U.S.-Mexican citizen, of Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico, was arrested today at Dulles International Airport. She is scheduled to make her initial appearance in federal court tomorrow in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia via video conference.

A Lexington, Kentucky, police officer was fired early Friday for leaking inside information about police to a Black Lives Matter protest leader.

The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council announced that after a nine-hour hearing and two hours of deliberations it had sided with Lexington Police Chief Lawrence Weathers in his recommendation to fire officer Jervis Middleton, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader. Middleton was convicted on two of the three charges against him.

Middleton was accused of funneling information to Sarah Williams, a friend of his who was also a leader of weeks of protests over the death of Breonna Taylor. Middleton had said the information he disclosed did not jeopardize the safety of any officers.

Middleton’s “conduct during a highly stressful and potentially vulnerable time during the history of our community — the most significant policing event in our community in 20 years — demonstrates that he should no longer be a police officer,” Keith Horn, a lawyer for the city, said.

“The allegations against Officer Middleton is that he provided information that could be used to insult, intimidate and harass our officers while they were working the protests,” Weathers said.

Biden’s HHS Pick Advocates Sex Changes for Kids.

On Thursday, the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee will hold a nomination hearing for Dr. Rachel Levine, President Joe Biden’s pick for Assistant Secretary of Health at the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). There are plenty of reasons for the committee to be concerned about placing Dr. Levine in such an influential and powerful role.

COVID-Overkill.

During Levine’s time as Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Health, Levine and Pennsylvania’s Governor Tom Wolf drew headlines by engaging in a draconian campaign of threats against counties that questioned state COVID-19 guidelines and wished to reopen their local economies as local businesses fell further into despair.

Additionally, Levine infamously forced COVID-19 patients out of hospitals and into nursing homes and long-term care facilities, exacerbating the spread of the virus to the elderly and infirm, among whom it proved to be most lethal. Levine repeatedly downplayed this criticism, arguing it was a necessary part of the state’s coronavirus response, and that COVID-19 was already present in those facilities.

While Levine was actively putting these elderly residents at grave risk, Levine chose to personally play by a different set of rules by quietly removing a parent from a nursing home facility early on in the pandemic.

But while the draconian treatment of local Pennsylvania governments and the COVID-19 nursing home scandal should be enough to call Dr. Levine’s nomination into question, Levine’s commitment to imposing a radical gender ideology on our nation’s children should perhaps be of even greater concern to the Senate HELP Committee.

Transitions for Kids.

Most alarmingly, Dr. Levine has advocated for sex changes for pre-pubertal people, otherwise known as “children.”

A professor of Pediatrics and Psychiatry at the Penn State College of Medicine, Levine has given lectures in various settings since at least 2012 on how to perform sex changes and gender conversion therapy on children.

According to Levine, children ought to be given the latitude to choose their own gender. Levine has advised adults to “try not to force them one way or other [sic]” and instead to follow the child’s lead.

Eight DOS ‘Slaves’ Defend Secret Sorority, Nxivm and Keith Raniere

The DOSsier Project [thedossierproject.com] is now live with brand new articles defending DOS, the once-secret sorority, headed by a man, Keith Raniere, the founder of NXIVM.

Raniere is now serving a 120-year sentence at USP Tucson.

Eight former DOS women founded the Dossier website and seek to combat the negative view of their sorority and show that it was a legitimate effort to improve women’s lives through, as they explain, the kind of discipline and adherence to keeping one’s word that is normally only expected of men.

The DOS women allot to me a fair amount of blame for the destruction of DOS, along with Sarah Edmondson, a whistleblower, who told me that she was a DOS slave and was branded.

On June 5, 2017, on Frank Report, I broke the story of DOS, in a series of articles beginning with Part 1: Branded Slaves and Master Raniere; Sources: Human branding part of Raniere-inspired women’s group.

In the stories, I reported the use of their terminology of “master” and “slave,” the practice of branding slaves with the initials of Keith Raniere on the women’s groins, and keeping collateral, essentially information and nude photographs of each woman which they would not want released to the public, family or friends. The collateral was provided by each slave as a condition of membership in DOS to ensure their keeping the sorority secret.

For good or ill, there is ample evidence that the DOS women are telling the truth, insofar as that I had a hand in the destruction of DOS. See Media Comments and Comments About My Role.

While I can respect the position of Nicki Clyne and the other seven women of the Dossier Project in that their intentions are good, that they wanted to help themselves and other women, the overall DOS scheme, especially the collection of collateral, was bound to cause some women to be victims. It was an impossible scheme and profoundly stupid to think that the wholesale collection of collateral, essentially blackmail-worthy material, could keep more than 100 women from revealing DOS’ existence. And they planned to recruit thousands of women.

I deeply sympathize with the women who felt they were victims and I think that the eight DOS women who still support Keith Raniere, the true author of the DOS scheme, are misguided in their faith in Raniere. Yet I support their decision to speak out and defend their actions and even the actions of their master, Raniere.

China Boasts of Military Buildup While Pushing ‘Dialogue’ with U.S.

Chinese state media boasted of China’s massive military buildup over the weekend while simultaneously claiming Beijing wants nothing more than to renew friendly dialogue with the United States under the Biden administration.

China’s state-run Global Times reported Sunday that the People’s Liberation Army(PLA) has developed “a new type of training systemthat would improve military training in all respects, strengthen the capability to win wars and build the Chinese military into a world-class one.”

The Global Times did not discuss the system, approved by dictator Xi Jinping — whose many titles also include Chairman of the Central Military Commission — in detail, but the article hinted it would include some combination of real-world combat drills and high-tech simulations. The goal is to “train as if exercises are real wars, boost joint exercises, enhance training with technology, strengthen talent support and follow patterns and laws of training and winning wars.”

A Chinese military expert whom the Global Times quoted said the new training regimen will combine “training with real combat, to the extent that the two need to be highly identical.” This has been the fundamental goal of all serious military training throughout human history, so it is interesting that Chinese state media felt the need to brag that its soldiers are really digging in and learning how to be killers now.

The article included a sideswipe at the supposedly more warlike United States, combined with extensive self-flattery of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) as a peace-loving organization:

Unlike the US military, which has operated around the globe and has been constantly in battles, which means it retains its sharpness, China has not fought a real war for decades, so training is one of only a few ways to hone combat capabilities, and that is why high-quality training is very important to the Chinese military, another Chinese military expert told the Global Times on Sunday on condition of anonymity.

The new military training system aims to eliminate malpractices that have accumulated through prolonged peace to make the military more ready for engaging in wars, even if China never wants any, the anonymous expert said.

The day after the Global Times touted this new super-warrior program for the PLA, it quoted Foreign Minister Wang Yi claiming China wants nothing but peaceful dialogue with the new American administration:

“Over the past few years, the US basically cut off bilateral dialogue at all levels. And this was one of the main reasons for the deterioration in China-US relations,” Wang Yi said in his address to the Opening of the Lanting Forum on Promoting Dialogue and Cooperation and Managing Differences: Bringing China-US Relations Back to the Right Track.

“We urge the US to stop smearing the Communist Party of China and China’s political system, stop conniving with or even supporting the erroneous words and actions of ‘Taiwan independence’ forces, and stop undermining China’s sovereignty and security on internal affairs concerning Hong Kong, Xinjiang and Tibet,” Wang added, listing four places whose residents would strongly dispute the idea that the gentle and peaceful CCP is only just beginning to learn how to fight wars effectively because it loathes violence.

Wang laid out the price the Biden administration must pay to restore friendly dialogue with the CCP, including the end of “restrictions on Chinese educational and cultural groups, media outlets and institutions” and “obstructions for the US’ local governments and social sectors to engage with China.”

The rest of the Global Times article was filled with Chinese experts who insisted the burden of restoring friendly relations lay upon the U.S., since the Trump administration was so aggressive at blocking CCP technology theft, protecting American institutions from CCP cyber-threats, shutting down CCP espionage operations in the United States, and investigating the CCP’s influence on American higher education.

“To right the wrongs and bring the China-U.S. relation back to the right track, the walls of misperceptions must be torn down first to clear the way for knowing, observing and understanding China,” Wang demanded, as quoted by the Global Times.The truth is that China was seen much too clearly by the previous administration. Beijing wants the Biden administration to restore all of the old illusions.

The year the pandemic threw tens of millions of Americans out of work was extraordinarily good for the bank accounts of the wealthiest hedge fund managers.

The top 25 hedge fund bosses made $32 billion, according to Institutional Investor’s annual Rich List. The list was published Monday.

The top earner was Izzy Englander of Millennium Management, who took home an estimated $3.8 billion in 2020. His flagship fund achieved a 26 percent return. The prior year he was number six on the list with $750 million and the year before that he was in fifth place at $975 million.

There were far more billion-dollar hedge fund paydays than in years past. This year all of the top ten made over $1 billion, The 10th place spot taken by Bill Ackman, whose Pershing Square Management earned a 70 percent return and who was paid an estimated $1.4 billion.

The year before only Ray Dalio of Bridgewater Associates and James Simons of Renaissance Technologies earned over a billion dollars.

Hedge funds overall returned 11.6 percent last year, their best performance in a decade. But they were outperformed by the S&P 500, which rose 16 percent last year.

German lawyers have already filed criminal complaints, and one of the attorneys is saying that they are looking athomicide and possibly even murder charges.

Joe Biden on Relations with China

It hardly needs explaining that the nature of relations between the two leading world powers under the new American administration (during its next four years in power) will be at the center of the global political process.

The last time we touched on this topic was in connection with the February 5 phone conversation between the new US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, and Yang Jiechi, who is responsible in the CPC Central Committee for the whole range of relations of the PRC with the outside world. The content of this conversation, as it was reflected in the official report of the State Department, gave no reason for any positive forecast of the development of US-Chinese relations in the near future. It seems that Michael Pompeo’s case (resolutely anti-Chinese) continues to thrive, even though he himself is no longer at the helm of American diplomacy.

Again, it should be noted that in this conversation Blinken outlined the position of his country (which, incidentally, is also not completely obvious) in relation to only the political and diplomatic sphere of relations with the PRC. The trade and economic sphere occupies an extremely important place in them. There are also other areas of interstate interaction (such ideological and cultural). But mostly with the trade and economic are hopes to keep the process of development of US-Chinese relations from following the bad, going back centuries, logic of the predetermined conflict between the “aging” and “emerging” superpowers.

Generally speaking, the US position in the complex of relations with its main geopolitical opponent can only be considered as the one that is voiced by the first person of the country, that is, its president, which since January 20 this year is Joe Biden. As the incumbent president, it was touched upon in one way or another both in his public speeches and in the course of his contacts with his foreign colleagues. The speeches, which were to a certain extent “orientation” in nature, were delivered at the headquarters of “relevant” departments, such as the State Department and the Department of Defense.

The first one under the general title of “President Biden’s Remarks on America’s Place in the World” was held on February 4. The central message of the speech was a statement to the outside world that “America is coming back,” not to solve yesterday’s problems, but to respond to today’s and tomorrow’s. The main sources were “China, which has challenged the US with its growing ambitions” and Russia, which “threatens our democracy”.

China was promised “confrontation” over its “economic abuses” and “attacks on human rights, intellectual property and world order”. At the same time there was expressed a “willingness to work with China when it suits American interests”. Indirectly, “(anti-)Chinese” motives were present in other parts of this speech as well, for example, in the passage about the plans to hold a “Summit of Democracies” in order to protect the process of “global democratization from authoritarianism”. Apparently, the symbol of this process will be the promotion of (specifically noted) LBGT rights.

One of the main points of Joe Biden’s February 10 speech at the Pentagon was that the US should be strong “not so much by example of power, but by the power of the example.” Further promising “no hesitation” in using the armed forces to protect the vital interests of “the American people,” he nevertheless noted that it was a “last resort” in dealing with one or another of the country’s external problems.

In general, this thesis is a variation on the theme of the ancient Roman meme Ultima ratio, which in the early 17th century in France (and a hundred years later in Prussia) was even cast on the royal cannons. In view of the monstrous power of modern “guns,” Joe Biden’s above thesis can only be welcomed and seen as a positive signal to the outside world. It’s just a matter of filling this signal specifically.

And in this case, too, there are several “options”. Is the appearance in early February in the South China Sea of two aircraft carrier strike groups of the US Navy a pre (or pre, pre, pre…) final argument of “King” Joe Biden? One thing is certain: this action, like the earlier passage of the missile destroyer John S. McCain through the Taiwan Strait, is an extremely dangerous game. Given the exceptional importance that China, i.e. the main opponent of the United States, attaches to the situation in the waters of both the South China Sea and around Taiwan.
