BREAKING: Pastor Artur found GUILTY for contempt of court for hosting worship services
https://www.rebelnews.com/pastor_artur_guilty_for_contempt_of_court_for_hosting_worship_services
This wasn’t the news any of us wanted to hear. But we were ready, and we aren’t done fighting — but we will need your help.
Justice Adam Germain found Pastor Artur Pawlowski guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of contempt of two separate court orders during a brief virtual court appearance today.
The first guilty verdict was regarding Justice John Rooke’s May 6 court order, which never even named Pastor Artur or his church — that one named the Whistle Stop Cafe and Chris Scott and prohibited illegal public gatherings.
The second contempt conviction related to Justice David Gates’ court order. That order was sought out in secret, without the knowledge of Pastor Artur’s lawyers, on April 23, and improperly served to Pastor Artur on April 24.
Whistle Stop Café owner Chris Scott was also dealt a similar blow during this same hearing. He was also found guilty for contempt of Justice Rooke’s court order that, unlike Pastor Artur, was explicitly issued against him, but obtained in secret all the same.
Prior to announcing his decision, Justice Germain stated that the Pawlowskis and Scott had openly defied the efforts of Alberta Health Services (AHS) to control the third wave.
One month from now, July 27, the court will hear arguments from AHS on sanctions against the Pawlowskis, which may include a term of imprisonment. Although we were hoping for better news, we won’t let this decision discourage us. We’ll continue to fight for Pastor Artur, Chris Scott, and every other Canadian targeted by our health overlords.
We also have a plan to keep the fight for religious freedom alive, but we don’t want to tip our hand to the bad guys just yet.
To help us with the astronomical costs that we’ve incurred defending Pastor Artur, and to help us fund future legal actions, please go to SaveArtur.com.
We’ll have more to report on this soon, including an exclusive interview with Pastor Artur and his lawyer Sarah Miller. Stay tuned.

Man on Air Canada flight criminally charged for sneezing
https://www.rebelnews.com/man_on_air_canada_flight_criminally_charged_for_sneezing
Talk about a nightmare at 20,000 feet!
Last August, Vadim Ilyinsky was returning to Toronto from Mexico aboard an Air Canada flight. But upon landing at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, Vadim was met by Peel Regional Police officers and promptly charged with the offence of “Mischief - Interfere with lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property.”
Gracious! That sounds quite serious, doesn’t it? Just what the heck did Vadim do while flying back to Canada? Did he get into a fistfight? Did he try to hijack the aircraft?
Hardly! You see, as it turns out, Vadim’s egregious crime against humanity was... sneezing?! Huh?
Here’s the nitty-gritty: while in his seat, Vadim claims he took off his mask to fix a broken string. A COVID-Karen in another row complained (naturally) and a flight attendant promptly read Vadim the riot act. As they were talking, Vadim sneezed (he says that he suffers from sinus issues).
Vadim says it was a dry sneeze and completely accidental; alas, the flight attendant begs to differ.
In a statement, she said that Vadim “suddenly and very deliberately leaned forward and emitted a very loud sneeze.” She also claimed that “saliva and possible nasal fluids landed on her uniform.”
(It is unknown if the uniform was sent to the forensics department.)
About two hours later, the plane touched down at Pearson and Vadim says he was “shocked” to be charged by waiting police officers. The maximum fine he faces: a whopping $5,000. Vadim will have his first court appearance next month.
Check out my interview with Vadim and ask yourself: could this be the craziest COVID story yet?

Guilbeault has received no letters of support for internet regulation from Canadians
https://tnc.news/2021/06/28/guilbeault-has-received-no-letters-of-support-for-internet-regulation-from-canadians/
Not one Canadian has sent Liberal Heritage Minister Steven Guilbeault a letter or email in support of further further regulating the internet, the government says.
The lack of support was revealed following an Order paper question filed in the House of Commons by Conservative MP Alex Ruff.
“With regard to correspondence received by the Minister or the Prime Minister related to internet censorship or increased regulation of social media sites since January 1, 2019, how many pieces of correspondence were received? And how many pieces of correspondence asked for more internet censorship or regulation?” Ruff inquired.
According to a response from the Department of Canadian Heritage, Guilbeault’s office “has not received any correspondence asking for more internet censorship or regulation.”
However, the response from the government noted that “a total of 389 pieces of correspondence related to internet censorship or increased regulation of posts on social media sites” were sent to the ministry as of April 30.
The revelation flies in the face of past claims by Guilbeault that a “very high proportion” of Canadians were in support of anti-internet laws like Bill C-10 and Bill C-36.
Critics have claimed that Bill C-10, which seeks to upgrade the Broadcasting Act to meet current online media environments, and Bill C-36 which hopes to regulate online hate speech are a threat to Canadians’ free speech rights.
“This is really an important point. There are some people out there, a minority clearly, who would advocate that we shouldn’t intervene, there should be no laws whatsoever regarding the internet, and anyways what happens on the internet stays on the internet. Well, it’s clearly not the case,” claimed Guilbeault during a Commons heritage committee.
“A very high proportion of Canadians are asking the government to step in. It’s very clear we will act.”
Guilbeault has also accused critics, which include former CRTC officials, of belonging to an “extremist element” of the Conservative Party.
According to a poll by Public Square Research and Maru-Blue a majority of Canadians support free speech rights over Bill C-10. The poll found that 73% of Canadians would choose their rights to freedom of expression over further regulation.

BC apologizes for encouraging Canadians to identify unvaccinated family members
https://tnc.news/2021/06/28/bc-apologizes-for-encouraging-canadians-to-identify-unvaccinated-family-members/
The British Columbia government has apologized after asking Canadians to snitch on their unvaccinated family members.
On Thursday, an official BC government Twitter account called on residents to tag their unvaccinated friends or family members in the replies. The tweet has since been deleted.
“Thank you! Next, let’s get to 80%! Tag a friend or family member who still needs their first dose and help them register here: gov.bc.ca/GetVaccinated,” read the tweet.
Despite the tweet’s deletion, an unknown number of people were publicly outed as unvaccinated in the replies.
According to Black Press Media, the BC government apologized for the incident saying that they will work to “ensure this does not happen again.”
A survey by Leger from 2020 found that 40% of Canadians were willing to snitch on their fellow citizens for not complying with COVID-19 measures.
In comparison, only 27% of Americans were willing to do the same when asked the same question.
Several places including London, Ontario have established COVID-19 snitch lines where residents can report others for breaking gathering limit rules or playing sports in parks.
In British Columbia, the City of Vancouver has a reporting system where residents can report house parties with 6 people or more and gatherings of 50 or more people.

The Trudeau government is trying to legislate cancel culture
https://tnc.news/2021/06/28/the-trudeau-government-is-trying-to-legislate-cancel-culture/
It turns out that Bill C-10 was just the tip of the iceberg of the Trudeau government’s plans to control what you can say and what you can see online.
Bill C-36 aims to shut down opinions the government doesn’t like — with no recourse and no clear explanation about what is legal free speech and what is illegal hate speech.
In other words, it aims to take the worst elements of cancel culture and turn it into federal law.
True North’s Candice Malcolm explains how the Trudeau Government is taking steps to censor the internet, shut down speech they don’t like and erase due process and the rule of law.

Bill C-36 would criminalize speech that’s not “far left woke speech”: PPC
https://tnc.news/2021/06/28/bill-c-36-would-criminalize-speech-thats-not-far-left-woke-speech-ppc/
The Trudeau government’s newly-unveiled online “hate speech” bill would criminalize any discourse that is not “far left woke speech,” the People’s Party of Canada (PPC) warned.
On June 23, hours before the House of Commons adjourned for the summer, the Liberals introduced Bill C-36 – a bill to crack down on “hate speech” published online.
The bill would reinstate section 13 of the Canadian Human Rights Act, amend the Criminal Code and Youth Criminal Justice Act to give the government new powers to address hateful content and give the Canadian Human Rights Commission the power to compel citizens to cease online communication.
According to PPC spokesperson Martin Masse, the legislation would effectively criminalize dissent and criticism that doesn’t align with “far left wokeism.”
“Hate speech is already illegal in Canada but you must meet a high bar to prove it in court. However, C-36 will vastly expand the power of human rights commissions to crack down on all kinds of unpopular speech that could be described as hate speech based on vague and subjective criteria,” said Masse.
“The Liberals have spent the past several years making every issue about race, gender and religion. They and other far left groups and politicians have been calling everybody who disagrees with them racist, bigots and white supremacists. With C-36, their goal is clearly to shut up dissidents who reject far left wokism, or at least scare them and force them to be very careful about what they say. It’s to criminalize any speech that is not far left woke speech.”
In an emailed statement to True North, Masse also slammed the Conservative Party of Canada for not speaking out against the legislation since it was unveiled last week.
“They are courting the Liberals’ centre-left vote and won’t take any position that jeopardizes this strategy. That’s why they won’t oppose C-36. Electoral expediency is more important for them than principles,” said Masse.
Soon after the bill was tabled, Conservative MP and justice critic Rob Moore addressed the law claiming that the decision was political and not a genuine attempt to tackle hate speech.
“Once again, we see all Canadians can expect from the Trudeau Liberals are photo ops and announcements,” More told CTV News on Wednesday.
“The fact this bill was brought forward in the last minutes before Parliament ends for the summer shows this Liberal government is only interested in political posturing ahead of the next election — not rooting out hate speech.”
Conservative Party leader Erin O’Toole has not yet addressed Bill C-36 publicly or his party’s position on the law since it was first announced.
If a fall election is called by the government, Bill C-36 will die and will have to be reintroduced in the next parliamentary session.

Florida Gov. DeSantis cites Canada as example of lockdown overreach
https://tnc.news/2021/06/28/florida-gov-desantis-cites-canada-as-example-of-lockdown-overreach/
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis cited Canada as an example which he didn’t want to model his state’s pandemic response to.
Speaking to Fox News’ Mark Levin, DeSantis defended his early opposition to COVID-19 lockdowns, noting that if he had not, Floridians would have little freedom and a crippled economy like in Canada.
"CANADA, FOR EXAMPLE, IS STILL LOCKED DOWN" @GOVRONDESANTIS #CDNPOLI PIC.TWITTER.COM/V5RL22MBIF
— Pundit Class (@punditclass) June 28, 2021
“We were the leading state fighting against coronavirus lockdowns,” DeSantis said.
“I believe had Florida not done that, you would see the other states to have followed Canada, for example, [which] is still locked down.”
DeSantis credits his opposition lockdowns to have inspired other states to reopen and abandon more controversial public health measures.
From early on in the COVID-19 pandemic, Florida decided to enact few public health restrictions and chose to reopen faster than most states. In terms of cases, Florida has largely done better than many states.
In Canada, most residents have been barred from travelling, gathering in groups or practicing regular religious services for over a year. Constant lockdowns have also had a devastating impact on the economy, leading to businesses failing and skyrocketing debt.
In May, DeSantis signed a bill banning “vaccine passports” and other local orders that make vaccination required in unnecessary situations. Multiple other states followed, ending the possibility of a nationwide vaccine passport in the United States.
DeSantis believes that many within the bureaucracy wanted a Canada-style lockdown, and it took the governor of the third-largest state to dissent to stop them.
“I think that’s what a lot of these bureaucrats wanted to see in the United States. And we made sure that we lead in a different direction,” he said.
“You just have so many threats to freedom nowadays. And what we’re doing is we’ve essentially, ‘Katie, bar the door’ to protect Floridians and to protect their freedoms and opportunities. And you see it in a number of different ways.”

New Study Finds COVID-19 'Very Well Adapted' To Specifically Infect Humans
https://www.zerohedge.com/covid-19/covid-19-very-well-adapted-specifically-infect-humans-study
An Australian team of researchers has published a new study which found that SARS-CoV-2, the virus which causes COVID-19, appears to be specifically adapted to attack human cells, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Flinders University professor and vaccine researcher Dr Nikolai Petrovsky was part of a team that discovered that Covid-19 is uniquely adapted to attack human cells.
The scientists from Flinders University and La Trobe used powerful computers to model the protein receptors in a number of animal species to see how the coronavirus’s spike protein attached itself to them.
The theory was that if the coronavirus attached itself readily to an animal like a bat or a pangolin, it would have likely been the species that the bug used to make its leap into the human population.
However, the modelling found that the coronavirus’s spike protein was best suited to attacking protein receptors in humans.
"The computer modelling found the virus’s ability to bind to the bat ACE2 protein was poor relative to its ability to bind human cells," said Flinders University epidemiologist and vaccine researcher Professor Nikolai Petrovsky, adding "This argues against the virus being transmitted directly from bats to humans."
"Hence, if the virus has a natural source, it could only have come to humans via an intermediary species which has yet to be found."
Other animals found to be relative susceptible to infection include pangolins, dogs and cats - all of which have been ruled out as an intermediary species between bats and humans.
RMSD of overlay of S protein RBD (pink = with pangolin and turquoise = with human) complex with human ACE2 (red) or pangolin ACE2 (blue) after MD simulation showing different geometry of the two complexes.
"Overall, putting aside the intriguing pangolin ACE2 results, our study showed that the COVID-19 virus was very well adapted to infect humans," Professor Petrovsky said.
The findings lend more weight to the lab-origin theory, which postulates that researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology became infected with SARS-CoV-2 and inadvertently spread the disease, or that it was intentionally released.
The Australian team's report, In silico comparison of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein-ACE2 binding affinities across species and implications for virus origin, can be found in the journal Scientific Reports.

Lisbon Court Rules Only 0.9% of ‘Verified Cases’ Died of COVID, Numbering 152, Not 17,000 Claimed
https://www.globalresearch.ca/lisbon-court-rules-only-0-9-verified-cases-died-covid-numbering-152-not-17000-claimed/5748807
Following a citizen’s petition, a Lisbon court was forced to provide verified COVID-19 mortality data, reports AndreDias.net.
According to the ruling, the number of verified COVID-19 deaths from January 2020 to April 2021 is only 152, not about 17,000 as claimed by government ministries.
All the “others” died for various reasons, although their PCR test was positive.
“We live in a fraud of unprecedented dimensions,” wrote Dias.
“The data are from the Sistema de Informação dos Certificados de Óbito (Death Certificate Information System – SICO), the only such system in Portugal. The reference to 152 death certificated issued ‘under Justice Ministry supervision’ is spurious, as all death certificates are issued under Justice Ministry auspices, being the only institution that issues them.
“In response to a popular suit, a court order was required for the Ministry to respond, desperate not to denounce the fraud.
“All those responsible for handling data from ‘cases’ and ‘deaths’ can, thereafter, only be tried for the crime if there is any dignity remaining in the rule of law,” he continued.
“If these figures are of the same order of magnitude for other countries as well, and there is no reason to assume otherwise, then the plague is a deception of unprecedented proportions and crimes committed against humanity on a huge scale have been committed here.”

St. Anne's Catholic Church on Upper Similkameen Indian Band land burned down on Saturday, in a fire being treated as suspicious.
Princeton RCMP received a call that St. Anne's was on fire at 3:52 a.m. on June 26.
Less than an hour later, at 4:45 a.m., Keremeos RCMP received a call that Lower Similkameen Indian Band's Lady of Lourdes Chopaka Church was on fire.
Both churches were destroyed.
Elder Carrie Allison of USIB spoke to Penticton Western News about the history of St. Anne’s:
“Our ancestors had to go to Penticton on horse and wagon to haul the lumber to build that church and would walk for miles to come to church rain or shine because it meant so much to them,” she said. “A lot of us suffered, but this is not how we do things, and this is not our way. “
She went on to send a message to whoever is responsible for the fires.
“I feel sorry for you, and I hope you’re satisfied. When your hurt turns to rage it is not healthy for you or your community.”
The Upper Similkameen Indian Band or Upper Smelqmix, is a First Nations band government in British Columbia. The head offices of USIB are located in Hedley, Similkameen Country.

Keremeos RCMP received a call at 4:45 a.m. on June 26 that Our Lady of Lourdes was on fire.
Just before that, at 3:52 a.m, Princeton RCMP received a call reporting a fire at nearby St. Anne's Catholic Church on Upper Similkameen Indian Band land.
Both churches were destroyed.
The LSIB published a press release addressing the fires, stating in part:
The Lower Similkameen Indian Band (Chief and Council) and community are shocked to discover that the Chopaka Church was destroyed in early morning fire. We along with the Upper Similkameen Indian Band, who also lost their Church this morning (Hedley B.C.) are in disbelief and angered over these serious occurrences, as these churches represent place of worship for community members as well as gathering spaces for many for various celebrations and times of loss. It will be felt deeply for those that sought comfort and solace in the Church.
...While we cannot speculate that the person(s) responsible had any connections to our Communities of Upper and Lower Similkameen, all we can do now is be there to support others during this time of loss in community and the loss of our historical landmarks. The Lower Similkameen Indian Band will fully cooperate as the investigation unfolds. Chief Keith says, “I'm very upset about the burning of all these churches. I sent my sympathies out to all my members who have been affected by these fires and I hope the investigation warrants an arrest.”
“It's going to be under investigation. It's too much of a coincidence that they both happened at night,” Chief Keith Crow told https://infotel.ca/newsitem/two-churches-destroyed-by-fire-on-similkameen-band-lands/it83961.

EZRA REACTS: Mandatory vaccines for Montreal high schoolers?
https://www.rebelnews.com/ezra_reacts_mandatory_vaccines_for_montreal_high_schoolers
With every COVID metric declining in Quebec, despite numerous huge gatherings to support the Montreal Canadiens as they compete in the Stanley Cup playoffs, things seem like they might be shifting back toward a semblance of 2019-style normalcy.
And then, all of a sudden, the province's director of public health sends out a letter demanding high school kids be vaccinated — a request so ridiculous even the World Health Organization doesn't agree with it. The letter was shared by on Twitter by Viva Frei, a YouTuber and political commentator based in Quebec.
Ezra Levant gave his opinion on this new government policy on yesterday's Rebel News DAILY Livestream, saying:
So I don't know what “must” means, is that an exhortation or a command?
Is that ‘come on guys, you really must.’ I'm not sure if that means mandatory for everyone, it's basically the government holding kids hostage and saying if 75 per cent of you take two doses of this experimental med that has specific health problems for young people we're not opening schools, we're not getting rid of masks, we're not having extra curriculars.
I don't think it's quite ordering teenagers to be injected, but it's pretty close.

DYSTOPIAN: First Canadian music festival held in Quebec since pandemic declared
https://www.rebelnews.com/first_canadian_music_festival_held_in_quebec_since_pandemic_declared
The first Canadian music festival since the pandemic, FestiVoix, is currently taking place in Trois-Rivières, Quebec.
Several Canadian artists are performing at the festival, which began on June 25 and will end July 4.
In front of the main stage, several enclosures have been built to ensure that the audience respects the sanitary rules of two metres distancing. On the other two stages, perimeter lines have been drawn and the tables have been carefully placed at the appropriate distances.
Festivals must be content with a maximum of 3,500 festival-goers per evening. Despite everything, FestiVoix has prioritized having a maximum of 1,750 people in order to be able to manage public health measures. This festival will create a standard subsequent large events are held to.
The other day, 20,000 people were crowded in front of the Bell Centre to watch the Habs game, and today, music shows have to be content with enclosures of two to four people maximum.
Where, then, is the logic in all this?

At least 2,300 Canadians died waiting for surgeries in 2020: report
https://tnc.news/2021/06/29/at-least-2300-canadians-died-waiting-for-surgeries-in-2020-report/
Over 2,300 Canadians died while waiting for a surgery last year as much of the healthcare system cancelled non-essential procedures.
According to a report by SecondStreet.org, at least 2,367 people are confirmed to have died in 2020 while on the waitlist for a surgery.
“The most unfortunate part about so many patients dying on waiting lists in our health care system is that many of these tragedies could have been prevented,” said SecondStreet.org President Colin Craig.
1,086 of the deaths reported came from Ontario. The true number of deaths is likely much higher as Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, and most of Manitoba did not track deaths of patients on waiting lists.
During the pandemic, many hospitals stopped non-essential procedures to limit human contact and make room for a potential surge of COVID-19 patients.
In March, SecondStreet.org reported that at least 353,000 surgeries, procedures and consultations were postponed due to lockdowns in 2020.
Disruptions to healthcare have continued into 2021 as Ontario halted non-essential surgeries in April. Ontario estimates it will take 3.5 years to clear the backlog of surgeries.
According to SecondStreet.org, the death count shows that provinces need to consider major reforms to reduce wait times, including private healthcare options and alternate funding models for hospitals to incentivize efficiency.
“Health reform could save lives and improve the quality of life that patients experience in their final years. Australia, New Zealand, Norway, there are many other countries out there with both universal health care and better outcomes for patients,” Craig said.
“If we don’t see meaningful health reform, we should expect to see even more patient suffering in the years ahead.”

A timeline of every town that has cancelled Canada Day celebrations in 2021
https://tnc.news/2021/06/29/a-timeline-of-every-town-that-has-cancelled-canada-day-celebrations-in-2021/
Numerous municipalities across Canada have decided to cancel Canada Day in 2021. The movement to ditch celebrating Canada’s birthday has taken hold since the Tkemlúps te Secwépemc First Nations and Cowessess First Nation announced two alleged burial sites located near former residential schools in British Columbia and Saskatchewan, respectively.
Spurred on by activists and far-left groups, 20 cities and towns, spanning five provinces and territories, have either fully canceled the holiday or substantially altered their Canada Day plans for this year. The municipalities are in British Columbia, Alberta, New Brunswick, Yukon and the Northwest Territories.
Check out True North’s interactive timeline below to explore every community that has decided to give in to the demands to cancel Canada Day.

Gun buyback could cost nearly four times Liberal estimate: PBO
https://tnc.news/2021/06/29/gun-buyback-could-cost-nearly-four-times-liberal-estimate-pbo/
A taxpayer rights group is demanding that the Liberal government immediately end its gun buyback program after a Parliamentary Budget Office estimate pegged the program’s cost at $756 million, nearly four times what the Liberals originally claimed.
“Using the number of estimated firearms and data from the Government, the estimated cost ranges from $47 million to $225 million. With the industry’s estimate and data, that range becomes $158 million to $756 million, owing largely to the variance in estimated non-registered firearms in Canada,” the PBO writes.
Tuesday’s PBO report, “Cost Estimate of the Firearm Buy-Back Program,” was written in reponse to an inquiry from Conservative MP Glen Motz.
Following the report’s publication, the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) put out a press release slamming the program’s ballooning costs.
“Today we learned the gun buyback could cost hundreds of millions more than Canadians have been told and the government still doesn’t know the full costs,” said CTF Federal Director Franco Terrazzano.
“This is a huge sum of money and the people on the front line say the buyback won’t make Canadians safer.”
As noted by the CTF, the PBO’s report did not take into account administrative and other costs associated with running the program, so the final cost will likely be larger.
Similarly, Conservative public safety critic Shannon Stubbs also blasted the federal program for targeting law-abiding gun owners and sending taxpayers such a steep bill.
“Like the first Liberal government gun registry, the firearms buyback program is yet another billion-dollar boondoggle that does nothing to truly address increasing violent crime, gun smuggling, and gang violence in our communities,” Stubbs said in a statement.
“The simple fact is that every dollar spent taking a firearm away from a law-abiding firearm owner is a dollar not going to fight the true issue of firearm crime in Canada – illegally smuggled guns.”
The Liberals’ now-repealed long gun registry, introduced in the 1990s, was supposed to cost $10 million per year, but ultimately ran up costs of close to one billion dollars over ten years, before Stephen Harper’s government scrapped it.
Upon announcing that it would ban 1,500 kinds of rifles and firearms in May 2020, the Liberal government said its buyback program cost would only reach $200 million.
These concerns were echoed by True North’s Andrew Lawton, a licensed gun owner and producer of the upcoming documentary Assaulted: Justin Trudeau’s War on Gun Owners.
“The government’s initial figure was a joke,” he said. “Anyone familiar with the Liberals’ track record on firearms policy knew it. Yet that hasn’t stopped this government from politicking on the backs of lawful Canadian gun owners, no matter the cost.”

It’s been nearly a week since the Liberals introduced their online censorship Bill C-36, and Conservative leader Erin O’Toole has still not said a word about it. True North’s Andrew Lawton explains why this bill needs to be a hill to die on for politicians, and talks about its most concerning traits with exonerated “hate speech” defendant and Rebel News founder Ezra Levant. Also, why the “cancel Canada Day” crowd is just plain wrong.

Why we need a global framework to regulate harm online
https://www.weforum.org/agenda/2021/06/global-framework-regulate-harmful-online-content/
Digital platforms used by billions of people around the world are being misused to cause harm and endanger people.
Urgent areas of concern, including child exploitation, highlight fundamental deficiencies in the current digital media ecosystem.
A new report by the World Economic Forum examines these issues and how we can address them to improve online safety.
The pandemic highlighted the importance of online safety, as many aspects of our lives, including work, education, and entertainment became fully virtual. With more than 4.7 billion internet users globally, decisions about what content people should be able to create, see, and share online had (and continues to have) significant implications for people across the world. A new report by the World Economic Forum, Advancing Digital Safety: A Framework to Align Global Action, explores the fundamental issues that needs to be addressed:
How should the safety of digital platforms be assessed?
What is the responsibility of the private and public sectors in governing safety online?
How can industry‑wide progress be measured?
While many parts of the world are now moving along a recovery path out of the COVID-19 pandemic, some major barriers remain to emerge from this crisis with safer societies online and offline. By analysing the following three urgent areas of harm we can start to better understand the interaction between goals of privacy, free expression, innovation, profitability, responsibility, and safety.

Major federal departments are unable to rule out working with Huawei subsidiary companies
https://www.rebelnews.com/major_federal_departments_are_unable_to_rule_out_working_with_huawei_subsidiary_companies
Several federal government departments, including Public Safety, the Privy Council and the Department of National Defence, are unable to say if they are doing business with companies associated with Chinese telecom giant Huawei.
In 2019, then-President Donald Trump banned Americans from doing any business with Huawei, citing security concerns. That ban was extended through to May 2021. However, the Canadian government is unable to respond to inquiries about the feds doing business with parent or subsidiary companies related to Huawei.
Confirmation of the lax security regarding government contracts comes from and order paper question posed to the Liberal government by Conservative MP Michael Barrett from the Ontario riding of Leeds—Grenville—Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes.
In April, Barrett asked for details regarding "monetary and non-monetary contracts, grants, agreements and arrangements entered into by the government with Huawei and its known affiliates, subsidiaries or parent companies since January 1, 2016.”
Several agencies — including National Defence, Global Affairs, Public Safety, and the Privy Council — rule out working with Huawei specifically, but those same agencies were unable to deny entering into contracts with companies under the Huawei umbrella.
"National Defence is unable to search and validate the information requested in regard to affiliates, subsidiaries or parent companies."
“Global Affairs Canada has not awarded any monetary or non-monetary contracts, grants, agreements or arrangements with Huawei since January 1, 2016. As the question does not identify a complete and comprehensive list of affiliates, subsidiaries or parent companies, the department is unable to search and validate the information requested.”
Strangely, other less security sensitive departments — like Heritage, Environment and Climate Change and Western Economic Diversification — were able to answer the inquiry. Natural Resources Canada even looked up the affiliates of Huawei and provided a list of those they checked against a departmental ledger of contracts.
Two Canadians currently sit in a Chinese prison as political hostages in response to the arrest of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou at a Vancouver airport on an American warrant. Trudeau may have forgotten about them, but we haven't. We've hired an international human rights lawyer to file a complaint to the United Nations to raise the profile of the plight of Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig.

Canadian senator says “smug” Canada shouldn’t deny China’s legitimacy
https://tnc.news/2021/06/29/canadian-senator-says-smug-canada-shouldnt-deny-chinas-legitimacy/
A senator appointed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau lectured Canadians on residential schools this Monday and launched into a tirade in which he defended the Chinese government’s legitimacy.
Senator Yuen Pau Woo echoed Communist Party of China’s talking points during a speech in which he called on fellow senators to not label China’s treatment of the country’s Uyghur minority in the Xinjiang region as a genocide.
“The fact that China does not share our view of individual freedoms or, indeed, our interpretation of freedoms based on the Charter is not a basis on which to lecture the Chinese on how they should govern themselves,” said Woo.
According to Woo, some Canadians understand that China’s mass internment of approximately one million men, women and children was “motivated by the fight against terrorism” and a “desire to provide employable skills for minorities.”
Woo also went on to claim that while China’s legitimacy might not come from democratic elections and electoral representation, it instead comes from their “outputs.”
“Now like most of you, I was brought up in the orthodoxy that input democracy through free and fair elections will, in the long run, outperform because citizens can always vote out a government that has not performed and in that way seek to improve outputs by changing the inputs,” said Woo.
“But we are learning the hard way that democratic elections and changes in government over decades have not consistently produced better outcomes for citizens in many industrialized economies.”
In his speech Woo also discussed residential schools, saying that Canadians don’t want China to make the same mistakes as Canada has in the past.
“We do so not because we have a superior moral position, not because we have the answers to the problems they are trying to solve and not because we want to embarrass China. We do it because of the pain we feel over what happened in our own country and for what we can learn from each other in not making such mistakes again,” said Woo.
“Let me be clear: I much prefer the vagaries of democratic choice to the certainty of authoritarian rule, but we cannot be smug about our preference for input legitimacy as the only way to validate state power. We also cannot deny that the Chinese state has its own claim to a kind of legitimacy, even if we don’t like it.”
Woo, who was appointed by Trudeau in 2015, also leads one of the largest organizations within the Canadian Senate, the Independent Senators Group.
This is not the first time that Woo has made controversial statements in support of China. In December 2020, Woo said that Canadians should wish China well and hope that it will succeed on the world stage.

"Panic Porn Dressed Up As Science" - Exposing The Truth About The Delta Variant
https://www.zerohedge.com/covid-19/panic-porn-dressed-science-exposing-truth-about-delta-variant
Equity futures are in the red Wednesday morning as Dr. Anthony Fauci's warnings about the supposedly "dire threat" posed by the Delta variant continue to be dramatically amplified by the American media.
Yesterday, we delved into the issue of the Delta variant as daily COVID cases reported in the US ticked higher after touching their lowest levels since the start of the pandemic. The data set off another round of warnings about the relatively large swath of Americans who refuse to get the vaccine.
On Wednesday, Bloomberg published the latest in a series of stories effectively re-stating the same facts: the vaccination rate in a handful of deep-red states has substantially lagged the rate in the rest of the country. The lead-in for Wednesday's story was the fact that the gap between the most- and least-vaccinated states has continued to widen. Though even Bloomberg concedes that "on a national level, the news appears good...the country's vaccination campaign is among the most successful in the world..."
Source: Bloomberg
One academic quoted in the Bloomberg story, Timothy Callaghan, who studies rural health at Texas A&M, warned that "we're going to have counties where vaccination is rare and nowhere close to herd immunity, and others where it's high. We could be headed toward a divided country of haves and have nots."
They also warned that an analysis last week of COVID cases in 700 counties found that the new delta variant first identified in India (which, according to Bloomberg, is "far more contagious") has been found more often in less-vaccinated US counties.
But is the Delta variant really "far more contagious" than earlier iterations of SARS-CoV-2?
In a recent piece published by the Blaze, writer Daniel Horowitz explains that the existing data suggests Delta isn't any deadlier or more infectious than other strains. Horowitz described the warnings from epidemiologists and public health bureaucrats like Dr. Fauci as "panic porn dressed up as science." Continue...

Czech Republic president condemns transgenderism as ‘a crime of self-harm’
https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/czech-republic-president-condemns-transgenderism-as-a-crime-of-self-harm
'Every surgery is a risk and these transgender people to me are disgusting,' Milos Zeman candidly said.
PRAGUE, Czech Republic, June 29, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) – Czech Republic President Miloš Zeman is under fire after commending Hungary for its decision to protect children against homosexual and transgender ideology.
During a recent interview on CNN Prima News, Zeman expressed support for Hungary Prime Minister Viktor Orban and the new legislation, which includes forbidding the showing of pornographic material or content portraying homosexuality or transgenderism to minors under age 18.
After passing the legislation, Orban has been repeatedly condemned by various politicians for his attempt to protect innocent children. The EU threatened to “investigate” the new legislation.
Additionally, Zeman was criticized as a result of his outspoken conservative views. During the 2018 election in the Czech Republic, the BBC condemned him as a “politically incorrect president” after he warned about the effects of Muslim immigration.
Regardless of risking his political career, Zeman supported Orban’s decision and commitment to protect children.
“Viktor Orbán says that he is not against homosexuals, but that he is against the manipulation not only of parents, but also of children in sex education,” Zeman boldly stated.
“I see no reason to disagree with him, because I am completely annoyed by the suffragettes, the Me Too movement and Prague Pride,” he continued.
“If you undergo a sex-change operation you are basically committing a crime of self-harm,” Zeman said. “Every surgery is a risk and these transgender people to me are disgusting.”
He commented that the upcoming homosexual “pride” march in Prague represents a small minority of the people’s beliefs who are attempting to put themselves above others. He declared that, if he were younger, he would organize a counter-protest.

‘Huge red flag’: Medical researchers bury data showing 82% miscarriage rate in vaccinated women
https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/huge-red-flag-medical-researchers-bury-data-showing-82-miscarriage-rate-in-vaccinated-women
'The evidence is actually there in the NEJM study, but completely misrepresented in the way the data was presented in general,' Dr Carmen Wheatley shared with LifeSiteNews.
WALTHAM, Massachusetts, June 30, 2021 (LifeSiteNews) — A medical journal discovered that 82% of women who took an mRNA vaccine in the first 20 weeks of pregnancy had a miscarriage — and then it then buried the data.
In mid-June the New England Journal of Medicine published a study called “Preliminary FIndings of mRNA Covid-19 Vaccine Safety in Pregnant Persons” by Tom T. Shimabukuro and others from the Center of Disease Control’s “v-safe COVID-10 Pregnancy Registry Team.” The team wrote that there were “no obvious safety signals among pregnant [women] who received Covid-19 vaccines” even though it published a table which showed that 82% of women in the study who were injected with either the Pfizer or the Moderna vaccine during early pregnancy lost their babies. More prominent in their study was a claim that only 13.9% of all “completed pregnancies” had ended in miscarriage — but this figure included the women who were not vaccinated until they were in the second half of their pregnancies.
The significance of the buried information was not lost on British oncologist Dr. Carmen Wheatley, who shared her information with LifeSiteNews. Having at first found the conclusions of the study’s abstract “reassuring,” Wheatley went on to discover "Table 4” and the fine print under it.
“The researchers inexplicably subsumed the first trimester spontaneous abortions — before, and including, 20 weeks — into the completed pregnancy/losses as a whole—104 [miscarriages] out of 827 pregnancies,” she wrote to two leading British doctors, Dr. Peter Rabey, the medical director of the UK’s Channel Island of Guernsey, and Dr. Nicola Brink, Guernsey’s director of Public Health.
“However, since the aim was to discover whether Covid vaccination had any adverse effects in the different trimesters, the NEJM papers’ authors should have deducted the 700 women who were not actually vaccinated until the third trimester from the total 827, leaving only those vaccinated in the first 20 weeks, i.e. 127 women to figure in that part of Table 4.”
Wheatley pointed out that the “real rate” of spontaneous miscarriages among women vaccinated in the first 20 weeks of their pregnancy was not 12.6% but 82% because 104 of these 127 pregnancies were lost. She highlighted the “small print” in the study that stated that a “total of 700 participants (84.6) received their first eligible dose in the third trimester” and that a “total of 96 of 104 spontaneous abortions (92.3%) occurred before 13 weeks of gestation.”
“So the evidence is actually there in the NEJM study, but completely misrepresented in the way the data was presented in general,” Wheatley stated.
The oncologist went on to say that the first trimester norm for miscarriages without vaccination, before COVID-19 began to spread, was reportedly between 10 to 26%. The incidence of 82% of pregnancies of women vaccinated in their first 20 weeks ending in miscarriage was thus “a more than 3-fold increased incidence of spontaneous abortions directly linked to the mRNA vaccines,” Wheatley wrote.
“So, yes, there is a huge red flag [against] vaccinating pregnant women here.” Continue...

https://www.rebelnews.com/siksika_first_nation_anglican_church_rcmp_second_attempted_arson
Gleichen RCMP are investigating a second fire at a church on Siksika First Nation land in Alberta.
A fire was reported at St. John Divine Anglican Church around 6:30 a.m. or 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, where authorities found a broken window and evidence of an attempted fire inside the church.
RCMP are already investigating an arson at the Siksika First Nation Catholic Church in Alberta after receiving a report that the building was burning at 12:30 a.m. on Monday morning.
Siksika Nation is part of the Siksikaitsitapi – Blackfoot Confederacy, and is located an hour east of Calgary.

The New Hazelton Fire Department responded to a fire at the vacant St. Paul’s Anglican Church in northwest British Columbia on Saturday, but were able to put out the flames before serious damage could be done.
Local RCMP received a call early on Saturday morning about a fire in the entrance of the church, which is no longer used by the community.
According to a report from the CBC, investigators are treating the fire as potentially suspect:
Staff Sgt. Darren Durnin says in a statement that police want to know if the blaze could be linked to four recent fires at churches within Indigenous communities in the south Okanagan.
St. Paul’s was built in approximately 1882 and stands a half block from a set of ten totem poles erected in the 1840s.
Gitwangak, also known as Kitwanga, has its head office in Smithers.

Stephen Harper's son takes a shot at Ezra Levant: Ezra responds
https://www.rebelnews.com/stephen_harpers_son_takes_a_shot_at_ezra_levant_ezra_responds
As Canada Day approaches, it appears that the lockdown in Alberta is finally coming to an end. The province, which once was the strongest in resisting the stringent measures enacted in other parts of the country, ended up jailing three pastors and engaging in costly legal battles with small-town restaurants that were simply trying to survive.
With the restrictions winding down, Ezra Levant had some harsh words for Alberta's chief medical officer of health, suggesting that her decisions caused more harm than good. Taking exception to this tweet was none other than Ben Harper, a staffer in Premier Jason Kenney's government and the son of former prime minister Stephen Harper.
On last night's episode of The Ezra Levant Show, Ezra shared his thoughts on the comment made by Ben Harper. One line from the younger Harper that really irked Ezra was his suggestion to “show some class.” Ezra thought this was a peculiar choice of words, saying:
Really, Ben? Am I not classy enough? I'm too low class for you, Ben? I'm not high class, I'm not fancy, I'm not part of the establishment — I think you're right.
I'm not part of the NHL class that's exempt. I'm not a millionaire hockey player or billionaire owner, I'm not apart of the Hollywood movies that for some reason had a data-driven exemption from Deena Hinshaw. The politicians, the lobbyists, the bureaucrats who have these Sky Palace parties with $50 bottles of booze.
It is true, I'm not classy enough for that, Ben. It is true. I'm what the Brits would call middle class. I'm not working class, I'm not high class. My dad was a doctor, I've got a law degree. But I went to a public high school, a normal university. I work for a living. I'm not high class, that's for sure. I use the wrong fork most of the time.
But you know, I'm old enough Ben — and I come from Calgary, so I actually know your parents, Ben. I knew them each before they were married to each other, did you know that?
Laureen Tesky and Stephen Harper, and I know them a bit. And they're not high class either.

Defending religious freedom isn't extremism, it's conservatism
https://www.rebelnews.com/defending_religious_freedom_isnt_extremism_its_conservatism
The three pastors arrested in Alberta are all very different men. While each had their own way of standing up against the government's restrictions, none were doing it merely for publicity. In the end, the result was the same: legal consequences and jail time.
On yesterday's Rebel News DAILY Livestream, David Menzies and Sheila Gunn Reid shared their take on the spat between Ezra Levant and Ben Harper, a staffer in Premier Jason Kenney's government and son of former prime minister Stephen Harper.
Speaking about how the younger Harper referred to Rebel News as an “extremist” outlet, Sheila wondered how standing up for religious freedom became an extremist ideology:
I'm not the one locking down pastors. I'm not the one justifying 35 days in jail for Pastor James Coates, keeping the church from the congregation for 90 days, driving Christian congregations underground, arresting pastors on Calgary freeways and arresting Tim Stephens in front of his children twice — not once, but twice.
Sorry, but [those are] the extremists. Defending religious freedom from the government during an emergency, which is always when the government takes away your fundamental freedoms — they always use an emergency to do it — I'm sorry, that's not the extremist view, that's the conservative position.
And wouldn't it be great if a Conservative would take it?

St. Jean Baptiste Catholic Church burned to the ground early this morning in a fire being treated by RCMP as suspicious.
The church is located in Morinville, north of Edmonton in Alberta.
The blaze was reported at 3:08 a.m. Morinville Fire Department arrived on scene at 3:20 a.m. to find that they were unable to enter the building and collapse was already underway.
Crews were able to get the fire under control just before 7:00 a.m. but by then the church was completely destroyed. The nearby former convent sustained water and smoke damage, but the building was saved.
Construction on St. Jean Baptiste began in 1907 and the church celebrated its first Mass on New Year's Day in 1908. The church is located near the centre of town on the east–west Highway 642.

Justin Trudeau told media he's “so eager” to see his children for the first time since returning from the G7 summit, one day after keen observers spotted him relaxing at one of Ottawa's outdoor restaurants.
Trudeau returned from the G7 on Tuesday, June 15, and was released from a COVID hotel on Wednesday, June 16 after testing negative for the coronavirus.
On Tuesday, June 29, Ottawa speechwriter Peter O'Neil tweeted that the prime minister was at an outdoor restaurant with a friend.
While Trudeau found time after his quarantine to relax on a patio, he admitted today that he had not yet visited his children.

Ottawa Peace Tower flag to fly half-mast for Canada Day: Justin Trudeau
https://tnc.news/2021/06/30/ottawa-peace-tower-flag-to-fly-half-mast-for-canada-day-justin-trudeau/
The Canadian flag at the Peace Tower on Parliament Hill will be flying at half-mast, Justin Trudeau announced Wednesday.
“As people across the country continue to honour the Indigenous children whose lives were taken far too soon, and as we reflect on the tragedy of residential schools, I have asked that the flag on the Peace Tower remain at half-mast for Canada Day,” tweeted Trudeau.
According to the rules that govern how to display the national flag, half-masting the Canada flag is mandatory on several occasions including upon the deaths of the Queen, her family members, the prime minister of Canada, former prime ministers and other dignitaries.
Half-masting is also required on special days including on Remembrance Day, the National Day of Remembrance for Victims of Terrorism and other similar occasions.
Trudeau’s decision to fly the Canadian flag half-mast on Canada Day comes as far-left activists have called for the national civic holiday to be cancelled altogether.
While a contingent of people have been calling for Canada Day to be cancelled for some time now, the recent announcements of two unmarked residential school burial sites in British Columbia and Saskatchewan have prompted dozens of localities to cancel their own celebrations.
In response to the findings, Trudeau has attempted to shift blame onto the Catholic Church. Most recently, the prime minister demanded that Pope Francis should apologize on Canadian soil for their responsibility in Canada’s residential school system.
“I have spoken personally directly with His Holiness Pope Francis to press upon him how important it is not just that he makes an apology but that he makes an apology to Indigenous Canadians on Canadian soil,” said Trudeau.
As reported by True North, nearly 20 cities and towns have cancelled or changed their Canada Day plans as of yesterday. Initially, on June 10, Victoria city council announced that it had unanimously decided to cancel its Canada Day plans for this year in favour of an event on reconciliation.
Victoria was then followed by other BC municipalities including Kelowna and Penticton and Port Hardy. Localities in Alberta, Ontario, New Brunswick, Yukon and the Northwest Territories have also announced that they would be axing their own Canada Day plans as well.

“It's a very dangerous precedent”: Pastor Artur's lawyer reacts to guilty verdict
https://www.rebelnews.com/its_a_very_dangerous_precedent_pastor_arturs_lawyer_reacts_to_guilty_verdict
Justice Adam Germain found both Pastor Artur Pawlowski and his brother Dawid guilty beyond a reasonable doubt on two charges of contempt of court, in a bizarre ruling delivered on Monday. Despite a great deal of flattery from Justice Germain towards the Pawlowskis’ legal counsel, in addition to his praise for the legal counsel of Chris Scott, who was also found guilty on the same charges, his written rulings offered dissatisfying responses to the challenges proposed by the counsels of the accused parties.
Justice Germain’s ruling also included references to a legal standard of “near certainty,” rather than “beyond a reasonable doubt,” a less stringent standard which favoured Alberta Health Services (AHS). On the spectrum of outcomes, this ruling fell virtually entirely in favor of AHS. Nearly every counterpoint that had been provided by the Pawlowskis’ counsel was set aside in the ruling.
Oddly, the guilty verdict of the Pawlowskis hinged on the phrasing of a May 6 order by Justice Rooke which was so ambiguous as to apply to all Albertans. On May 13, the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms sought clarification on the May 6 order, which was granted. AHS lawyers agreed to remove the ambiguous language in order to clarify that the order did not apply to Albertans at large.
In Monday’s ruling against the Pawlowskis, however, Justice Germain rather troublingly justified his finding of guilt based on the terms of the May 6 version of the Rooke order that were in effect for only five days — rather than on the clarified version of the order that was amended on May 13. You might expect that a judge would take into consideration a meaningful clarification on an order while ruling on its enforcement, but that evidently did not occur in this case.
This ruling has broader implications for others facing legal battles in the province, including the currently imprisoned Pastor Tim Stephens, as it may set a legal precedent that the Justice Rooke order could be interpreted as applying to Albertans at large, despite the May 13 amendment.
Premier Jason Kenney and Health Minister Tyler Shandro are apparently exempt from the wide-sweeping application of the order, while Christian pastors are fair game. We look forward to legal clarification as to the reasoning why, but we won’t hold our breath.
I was joined by Sarah Miller of JSS Barristers for an update on the ruling and some details on the upcoming July 27 sanction court date for the Pawlowkis. We also discussed whether this ruling honours the responsibility of the judiciary to serve as a measured balance to AHS’s unilateral focus on the prevention of the spread of COVID without consideration of broader factors, such as the violation of fundamental Charter rights and widespread economic devastation.
Pastor Artur Pawlowski is not one to go down without a fight, and we know that his legal battle is not over yet. If you want to help Artur stand up to this questionable ruling, go to SaveArtur.com and donate now.

Mill Stream Bible Camp wins in court: Feds unfairly denied funds based on camp's pro-life stance
https://www.rebelnews.com/mill_stream_bible_camp_wins_court_feds_unfairly_denied_funds
The Federal Court of Canada has struck down a discriminatory federal government decision against a Christian Bible camp after they were denied counsellor funding on the basis of the camp's pro-life beliefs.
Justice Richard Mosley ruled that Mill Stream Bible Camp, operated by BCM International (Canada) was subjected to the unreasonable decision to withhold $45,600 to fund six jobs for summer camp counsellors, and has also ordered the government to cover BCM's legal costs.
BCM had used funds from the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) program to hire students to work at their camps and to allow for underprivileged children to attend.
According to BCM's legal representatives from the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms [JCCF]:
In 2018, the Federal Government rejected BCM’s applications because BCM could not accept the controversial 2018 CSJ attestation, which required BCM to express agreement with abortion as a condition for receiving a government grant.
...Without providing a detailed or specific explanation, Service Canada claimed that the summer camp positions at Mill Stream for students would “restrict access to programs, services, or employment, or otherwise discriminate, contrary to applicable laws, on the basis of prohibited grounds, including sex, genetic characteristics, religion, race, national or ethnic origin, colour, mental or physical disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity or expression.”
In 2019, the JCCF found that the final decision to prevent practicing Christians and secular pro-life individuals from participating in the federal government's summer jobs grant came directly from the prime minister.
According to internal government emails obtained by the Justice Centre, the language these Christian groups called “discriminatory” and “compelled speech” was signed off on by Justin Trudeau himself.

UPDATE: Gracelife church fences taken down early
https://www.rebelnews.com/update_gracelife_fences_taken_down_early
The fences came down at GraceLife Church west of Edmonton on Tuesday, two days early.
The church is slated to be returned to its congregation after it was seized by the province on April 7.
The property has been segregated behind three layers of fencing and was guarded by private security guards, after the church and its pastor, James Coates, refused to comply with the province's public health restrictions on places of worship. At the time of the confiscation of the church, places of worship were restricted to 15 percent of fire code capacity, as well as masking and social distancing requirements.
GraceLife garnered international attention after Coates turned himself in for refusing to force his congregation to follow health restrictions that he says violated his Charter rights to freedom of expression, religion, assembly and conscience.
While Coates qualified for bail to be released from Edmonton's high security Remand Centre, he was unable to agree to sign conditions of release that required him to follow health regulations.
Since the seizure of the church, GraceLife's congregation has been meeting in secret to avoid further enforcement from health officials and police.
The province of Alberta enters stage three of reopening on July 1, when most provincially enforced public health orders will be dropped.

Whistle Stop Cafe goes to court arguing for procedural fairness after secret court order filed
https://www.rebelnews.com/whistlestop_cafe_goes_to_court_arguing_for_procedural_fairness_after_secret_court_order_filed
Today lawyers for the Whistlestop's Chris Scott were in the Alberta Court of Appeals arguing for procedural fairness from Alberta Health Services and their secret court orders.
Scott's lawyer, Chad Williamson, funded by the support of Rebel viewers through our civil liberties project, www.FightTheFines.com, and in partnership with registered Canadian charity, the Democracy Fund argued that the secret order violates the fundamental principles of justice of the Canadian legal system.
Scott was arrested after AHS went ex-parte - in secret - in front of a judge in Calgary on May 6 to get a court order restraining Scott's right to attend, organize or promote a protest after the government confiscated his restaurant, gas station, convenience store and campground. Ex-parte orders are often reserved for those who pose a serious public safety threat, like criminal gangs and terrorists, not diner owners in a town of 500.
AHS lawyers failed to inform the judge hearing arguments in favor of the May 6 order, John Rooke, that Scott was represented by a lawyer. They also failed to inform Williamson about the proceedings against his client - a serious procedural violation. AHS lawyers, instead, contacted Williamson only after the May 6 order was awarded, indicating, however, AHS lawyers knew who Williamson was and exactly how to get in touch with him.
Williamson was prevented from making arguments about procedural fairness when Rooke ruled against his attempts at an earlier date. Today's hearing asks the court of appeal to revisit that decision to deny Scott's legal team from making any arguments that the order was improperly obtained. The judge's ruling will come "as soon as possible".
Scott's Mirror, Alberta property was chained up after Scott refused to close when the government plunged Alberta restaurants and pubs back into lockdown this spring. Scott held a 1500 person protest the following Saturday and was arrested for breaching the court order and was held for three days in jail before his release.
Today's hearing is about basic human rights. Do we as citizens have the right to have a lawyer defend us from government overreach that could land us in jail? Do have recourse when the government clearly violates our rights? Should we have secret courts in Canada or any free country?
If this decision to deny Chris Scott fairness before the law is allowed to stand, then the courts are only tools for the rich and powerful and not a place where the little guy can expect to get a fair shake. That's why we are fighting back. If they can do this to Chris Scott, they can do this to anyone of us.
The government of Alberta has endless resources to squash entrepreneurs and people just trying to live their lives. But we have something better: you. An army of freedom minded people to level the playing field. If you are able to offset the legal costs as Chris Scott fights for fair treatment under the law, please donate at www.FightTheFines.com.
All donations to Fight The Fines now qualify for a charitable tax receipt from the registered Canadian charity, the Democracy Fund.
Previously Scott was repeatedly ticketed and issued summonses in an attempt to close his businesses after he re-opened them in defiance of the lockdown in January.

Alberta initiative hopes to cut police response times in rural communities
https://tnc.news/2021/06/30/alberta-initiative-hopes-to-cut-police-response-times-in-rural-communities/
In an effort to reduce police response times for communities in rural Alberta, Alberta Sheriff highway patrol officers will have expanded powers to respond to traffic incidents.
The expansion, first announced on Friday, is part of the Rural Alberta Provincial Integrated Defence Response (RAPID) initiative.
With the new changes, an additional 260 officers will be able to respond to traffic incidents.
Originally, Alberta traffic sheriffs only had the power to enforce Traffic Safety Act violations and investigate collisions but now they will be able to engage with criminal offences like impaired driving.
“We are taking action to address the very real issue of crime in rural Alberta,” said the province’s justice minister Kaycee Madu.
“We know Albertans have been frustrated with response times in rural areas, and we are committed to making sure they feel safe and protected in their communities,” Madu added. “More boots on the ground means authorities can respond more quickly when Albertans need them. It will also deter crime and make our highways and communities safer.”
In recent years, the Alberta government has introduced several measures in order to crack down on the problem of rural crime.
Provincial and wildlife officers were granted new powers to respond to RCMP calls for backup in April as part of the RAPID initiative. Since being in effect, the program added an additional 140 peace officers who can help respond to rural crime incidents.
According to Statistics Canada, rural residents in the Prairies are impacted by higher rates of property crime than those living in urban areas.
“As with most property crimes, rates of break and enter and motor vehicle theft were higher in the Prairie provinces, especially Alberta. In 2017, police reported 978 break and enter incidents per 100,000 population in rural Alberta,” claimed a 2017 Statistics Canada report.

https://tnc.news/2021/06/30/the-left-in-canada-is-turning-on-the-symbols-they-created/
There’s a little bit of delicious irony to hear Liberals and leftists today calling for the country to “cancel Canada Day.” The Liberals and leftists, after all, are the ones who created Canada Day, among many other new Canadian symbols in an effort to erase Canada’s British history and traditions.
There are certainly some conservatives out there chuckling saying, sure, cancel Canada Day — and bring back Dominion Day!
True North’s Candice Malcolm breaks down all the ways the left has tried to change Canada by introducing new symbols and whitewashing our past, and how their version of Canada has never stood up to scrutiny.

https://tnc.news/2021/06/30/canadians-owe-57500-in-government-debt-per-person-according-to-taxpayers-organization/
A new report by the Canadian Taxpayers Federation (CTF) found that on average, Canadians’ share of federal and government debt totalled $57,500 per person.
The 2021 Canada Day Debt Report was based on 2021 federal and provincial budgets.
When broken down based on provinces, Canadians in Newfoundland and Labrador held the highest amount of federal and provincial debt with $65,200 owed per person. Ontario followed closely behind with each person having a $61,600 share of government debt.
“Governments have been borrowing too much money for too long and now they need to start addressing the red ink before taxpayers get clobbered,” said CTF Federal Director Franco Terazzano in a news release.
“Canadians don’t have tens of thousands of dollars lying around to pay for this mountain of government debt, and that’s why it’s so important for politicians to find savings like everyone else.”
According to the CTF, interest charges alone will cost Canada between $1,100 and $2,400 per person in 2021.
“Interest charges alone will cost more than $1,000 per person this year, and that money isn’t being spent on health care or lowering taxes because it’s going to bond fund managers,” said Terazzano.
“Canadian governments are up to their eyeballs in debt and taxpayers are going to get walloped if politicians don’t figure out ways to save money.”
Canada’s federal debt surpassed $1 trillion dollars this year following a frenzy of pandemic spending by the ruling Liberal government.

Radical calls to cancel Canada Day, toppling statues and renaming street names is not a productive path forward.
What’s rarely discussed are the positive stories about First Nations people. The successes and accomplishments are worth talking about and worth celebrating.
Anthony Furey discusses in his latest video.

Soros Hires Former Smartmatic Prez as CEO and Former Podesta CEO as Head of US Operations – Podesta Hires Former Soros Chief as President of Center for American Progress
In late December far-left billionaire globalist George Soros announced new leadership at his Open Society Foundation.
Former Obama official Patrick Gaspard was stepping down as president of the Open Society Foundation.
Lord Mark Malloch Brown, the former UN deputy secretary‐general and UK minister and president of Smartmatic voting systems, replaced Patrick Gaspard at the helm.
Brown was formerly the vice-chairman of Soros’s Investment Funds and even the deputy secretary-general of the United Nations when he worked as chief of staff to Kofi Annan.
Lord Mark Malloch-Brown was also the chairman of Smartmatic.
The Smartmatic owners, were denounced in June 2004 by the press for having received a US $200,000 equity investment from a Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela (BRV) joint venture fund called FONCREI which was a Chavez organization. A Chavez campaign adviser was also placed on the board as well.
Smartmatic has links with Dominion Voting Systems, the scandalous company used to steal the election for Joe Biden this year.
Tom Perriello is currently executive director of Open Society-U.S. and is the former CEO of John Podesta’s Center for American Progress.
And now Patrick Gaspard, a far-left operative linked to Barack Obama, will take the reins at Center for American Progress after leaving the Open Society in December.
Democratic operative Patrick Gaspard will take the reins of a top Democratic think tank, stepping into the shoes of liberal firebrand Neera Tanden.
Center for American Progress founder and board member John Podesta, a longtime Clintonworld staple, announced Gaspard’s appointment to the post Tuesday.
A former Obama administration official, Gaspard led the George Soros-run Open Society Foundations for three years before stepping down at the end of 2020.
It appears these two globalist, anti-American think tanks are intrinsically connected at this point.

The Pacific Is Crowded With Unprecedented Number Of War Games
https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/pacific-crowded-unprecedented-number-war-games
Each week the Pacific is getting even more crowded with military ships, submarines and aircraft from countries in the region and from outside. NATO countries — United Kingdom, France, Germany and the Netherlands — are sending military vessels and aircraft. The Russian navy conducted military maneuvers off Hawaii. The US is on the verge of creating a permanent Pacific naval task force as a part of its aggressive response to China’s naval presence in the Pacific. The largest land exercise in Asia and the Pacific is taking place in Australia with 17,000 U.S. and Australian military.
In March, President Joe Biden directed the Pentagon to establish a China Task Force to examine China-related policies and processes and give its recommendations to Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. The creation of a Pacific Naval Task Force would allow the secretary of defense to provide more of the Pentagon’s budget for challenging China’s presence in the Pacific. The Pacific task force would also include NATO allies such as Britain and France, that have already sent their warships into the Pacific, as well as Japan and Australia.

Orwellian: Canada Moves to Ban “Hate Speech” Online, Punishable by a $40,000 Fine
https://www.activistpost.com/2021/06/orwellian-canada-moves-to-ban-hate-speech-online-punishable-by-a-40000-fine.html
Last week, Canada’s Liberal Party headed by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau proposed new legislation to criminalize “hate speech” online, punishable by a $50,000 fine (roughly $40,000 U.S.D.), paid to the government. Government officials, including the attorney general and the minister of public safety, announced the new bill on Wednesday.
“Canadians expect their government to take action against hate speech and hate crimes. These legislative changes would improve the remedies available to victims of hate speech and hate crimes, and would hold individuals accountable. The actions we are taking today will help protect the vulnerable, empower those who are victimized and hold individuals to account for the hatred they spread online,” David Lametti, minister of justice and attorney general, said in a statement.
Lametti introduced amendments to Canada’s Criminal Code, the Canadian Human Rights Act, and the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Lametti and his allies justified their Orwellian move by claiming that “hate speech” online can turn into “offline hate.”
“Too many people and communities in Canada are harmed and victimized by hate speech, which is often amplified and spread online. Online hate can turn into offline hate with devastating impacts on communities and families. We have a responsibility to victims to take action to combat hate online and continue to build a more inclusive Canada,” the Justice Department explained in a statement.
According to the Canadian Justice Department, the bill aims to: Continue...

Justice Centre appeals federal court ruling on Canadian isolation facilities
https://www.lifesitenews.com/news/justice-centre-appeals-federal-court-ruling-on-canadian-isolation-facilities
Chief Justice Paul Crampton ruled that mandatory quarantine hotels and quarantine facilities are constitutional.
July 1, 2021 (Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms) – The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms has launched an appeal at the Federal Court of Appeal about the decision of Chief Justice Paul Crampton, that ruled mandatory quarantine hotels and quarantine facilities are constitutional.
The appeal states that Justice Crampton erred in law and fact in finding that the forced detention of returning Canadians in federal facilities do not breach the Charter rights and freedoms of Canadians. The Justice Centre further asserts that the Chief Justice Paul Crampton erred in law by making findings that went beyond the scope of the evidence and the issues that were before the Court in making additional, conclusionary findings that “principles of fundamental justice would permit the imposition of stronger border control measures including longer period of quarantine at the border.”
“The permissive findings of Chief Justice Paul Crampton that the principles of fundamental justice would allow the government to put in place even more restrictive measures sets a dangerous precedent,” states Justice Centre Litigation Director, Jay Cameron.
“When the state detains and forcibly confines a citizen in a federal facility, it doesn’t matter if the facility is a fancy hotel, it is still a detention and a confinement, and therefore an infringement of the constitutional freedoms of Canadians. The decision of the Federal Court on this point is a judicial aberration that must be appealed.”
The ruling did find that the constitutionally protected section 9 and 10(b) rights and freedoms of Justice Centre client, Pastor Nicole Mathis, were unjustifiably infringed when authorities failed to inform her of her right to counsel and because federal authorities failed to inform her of the location she was being taken under the threat of arrest. This part of the ruling will not be appealed.
Pastor Mathis was forced against her will on January 28, 2021 into a federal quarantine facility and detained for three nights because her negative Covid test was not accepted by Canadian Public Health officials. Calgary police officers refused to tell her worried husband, Pastor Chris Mathis, where his wife was being taken.
The Justice Centre appeared in Federal Court on June 1 – 3 on behalf of Pastor Mathis and ten more clients: Barbara Spencer, Sabry Belhouchet, Blain Gowing, Dennis Ward, Reid Nehring, Cindy Crane, Denise Thomson, Norman Thomson, and Michel Lafontaine, and Steven Duesing, who are challenging the government’s policy of forcing returning Canadians into federally chosen quarantine hotels and quarantine facilities at their own expense.
The Justice Centre argued that these oppressive measures violated seven different sections of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms and that the infringements were not justified in a free and democratic society. Nine out of the original eleven clients will be moving forward with the appeal.
On February 14, 2021, the Federal Government issued an Order-In-Council forcing international Canadian air travelers to be quarantined for three days in a federally mandated hotel at their own expense, sometimes at the cost of thousands of dollars, while waiting for COVID PCR test results. If individuals test negative they are allowed to go home to complete the remainder of their 14 day quarantine, however if they test positive for COVID they may be directed to further confinement at another quarantine facility, to complete the remainder of their 14 day quarantine.
The new measures took effect on February 21, 2021.
“To date thousands of Canadians each day have been detained against their will in quarantine hotels and quarantine facilities, and thousands more have received large fines for refusing to be detained. These oppressive measures, calculated to punish and intimidate Canadians exercising their constitutional right to leave the country, were not utilized by the vast majority of countries during COVID. They are another signpost in Canada’s movement away from a free and democratic society,” concludes Mr. Cameron.
