Bodies of All 179 Victims of South Korea Plane Crash Recovered - Reports
SEOUL (Sputnik) - The bodies of all 179 passengers and crew killed in what is believed to be South Korea's worst air disaster in decades have been retrieved from the wreckage, South Korean media reported on Sunday.
Only two of the 181 people on board survived the deadly crash. They are a male and a female members of the plane crew, who were taken to a hospital with injuries of various degrees of severity, Yonhap news agency reported.
Acting South Korean President Choi Sang-mok declared a week of national mourning from December 29 to January 4. Flags on all government and local authorities' offices will be flown at half-mast, and all government officials will be required to wear morning bands on their uniforms, Choi said.

Leftist New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) has signed a legislative package that includes a bill encouraging platforms to censor speech.
In a Dec. 24 press release, Hochul’s office bragged about alleged “Online Safety Legislation.” One bill in particular, S895B/A6789B, “Requires Social Media Companies To Disclose Their Terms of Service Relating to Hate Speech.” But “hate speech” is a vague and easily abused term, often weaponized by anti-speech leftists like Hochul and Big Tech censors as justification for draconian censorship.

Methane Bubbles Frozen in Lake Baikal
What are these bubbles frozen into Lake Baikal? Methane. Lake Baikal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Russia, is the world's largest (by volume), oldest, and deepest lake, containing over 20% of the world's fresh water. The lake is also a vast storehouse of methane, a greenhouse gas that, if released, could potentially increase the amount of infrared light absorbed by Earth's atmosphere, and so increase the average temperature of the entire planet. Fortunately, the amount of methane currently bubbling out is not climatologically important. It is not clear what would happen, though, were temperatures to significantly increase in the region, or if the water level in Lake Baikal were to drop. Pictured, bubbles of rising methane froze during winter into the exceptionally clear ice covering the lake.

‘Yellowstone’ Actor Sees Shift in Hollywood ‘There’s a Tide of Change Going on Right Now’ (Video)
by Margaret Flavin Dec. 29, 2024
Yellowstone’ actor Neal McDonough joined Fox News to talk about his new film with Angel Studios and the shifting tides in Hollywood.
The father of five credits his faith for helping him navigate tough times as an actor after he claims he was blacklisted from the industry in 2010 for refusing to agree to on-screen sex scenes.
During a recent the importance of storytelling with Will Cain of ‘Jesse Watters Primetime,’ he had hopeful words for those who have been turned off by Hollywood’s constant and exhausting push of the woke agenda.
Will Cain: Actor Neal McDonough joins me now. Neil, great to see you. Of course, ‘Yellowstone’ is a Taylor Sheridan show. Another one, ‘Landman,’ out right now. There’s a scene in ‘Landman,’ Neal, a speech where he gives about the power of oil and gas versus wind and how everything in our world revolves around the production of oil. If nothing, Neal it’s unique.
Neal McDonough: Well, there’s something about what Taylor Sheridan is doing, and Will, you hit on something. It’s just being pro-American in our approach to our filmmaking. I think Taylor has done it better than anyone. Even on ‘Tulsa King,’ we had such a great time talking about the heartland of America this year. But what I do miss, I have to admit on a side note, I miss you sparring with Stephen A. Smith so much, I can’t even tell you. Those were the days I loved watching you on ESPN. It was great. But if you’re right, though.
Will Cain: I watched Tulsa King. To know that the guy in Tulsa King is telling me that he used to watch me on first take. That’s very flattering. Thank you, Neal.
Neal McDonough: That’s right. No, exactly. But It just seems like there’s a tide of change going on right now in Hollywood. I’m fortunate because my wife, Ruvé and I, we get to produce all of our films for Angel Studios, which is just an incredible machine that they have. Our film, ‘Homestead,’ came out this last weekend. It’s doing very, very so thank you everyone for your support.
The more you support films like this that actually talk about the family, talk about issues that the whole family can sit around the theater and watch and have a discussion after. If you like those types of films, please keep supporting what the Ewrin Brothers are doing, the Kendricks are doing, Dallas Jenkins doing, everyone at Angel is doing. There’s a movement going on, and I’m just so blessed that we get to be part of it.
Will Cain: I haven’t had a chance to see yet, but I’ve heard great things, by the way, about Homestead. The thing about it is, if you’re interested in being a storyteller, how rich What a rich environment to mine stories from, Americana, America.
Neal McDonough: Well, it’s funny. Five years ago, they just came up with a list of all the wants that all the networks want. I want a show like this. I want to show like that. But I would say eight out of ten of them on the list that I just read at the bottom, it says,’ If you have anything with faith-based, we’re very interested this year.’
There’s just a change that’s going on that I love because these films are turning profits. We keep the prices down. The advertising isn’t as much as you have with a big studio film, but the word of mouth through our Angel Films has really just caught on so well, and it’s building such a fan base that I just love that we’re part of it and Ruvé get to keep on making, the two of us get to keep making for Angel Studios. We have our next one, The Last Rodeo, which comes out in May that we’re very proud of that I wrote.
According to their website, “Angel Studios is a free, community-supported streaming platform offering exceptional movies, shows, and documentaries for all ages. Enjoy unlimited access to our award-winning, viewer-supported entertainment designed to inspire, uplift, and unite through meaningful storytelling. Each Angel Studios title is voted for and refined by the Angel Guild, our body of members that decides which films and shows are distributed by Angel Studios. Because of the Angel Guild, our films are produced and seen for free by millions of people.”

NASA Is Watching a Vast, Growing Anomaly in Earth's Magnetic Field
Dec 28, 2024
NASA has been monitoring a strange anomaly in Earth's magnetic field: a giant region of lower magnetic intensity in the skies above the planet, stretching out between South America and southwest Africa.
This vast, developing phenomenon, called the South Atlantic Anomaly, has intrigued and concerned scientists for years, and perhaps none more so than NASA researchers.
The space agency's satellites and spacecraft are particularly vulnerable to the weakened magnetic field strength within the anomaly, and the resulting exposure to charged particles from the Sun.
The South Atlantic Anomaly (SAA) – likened by NASA to a 'dent' in Earth's magnetic field, or a kind of 'pothole in space' – generally doesn't affect life on Earth, but the same can't be said for orbital spacecraft (including the International Space Station), which pass directly through the anomaly as they loop around the planet at low-Earth orbit altitudes.
During these encounters, the reduced magnetic field strength inside the anomaly means technological systems onboard satellites can short-circuit and malfunction if they become struck by high-energy protons emanating from the Sun.
These random hits may usually only produce low-level glitches, but they do carry the risk of causing significant data loss, or even permanent damage to key components – threats obliging satellite operators to routinely shut down spacecraft systems before spacecraft enter the anomaly zone.
Mitigating those hazards in space is one reason NASA is tracking the SAA; another is that the mystery of the anomaly represents a great opportunity to investigate a complex and difficult-to-understand phenomenon, and NASA's broad resources and research groups are uniquely well-appointed to study the occurrence.
"The magnetic field is actually a superposition of fields from many current sources," geophysicist Terry Sabaka from NASA's Goddard Space Flight Centre in Greenbelt, Maryland explained in 2020.
The primary source is considered to be a swirling ocean of molten iron inside Earth's outer core, thousands of kilometers below the ground.
The movement of that mass generates electrical currents that create Earth's magnetic field, but not necessarily uniformly, it seems.
A huge reservoir of dense rock called the African Large Low Shear Velocity Province, located about 2,900 kilometers (1,800 miles) below the African continent, is thought to disturb the field's generation, resulting in the dramatic weakening effect – which is aided by the tilt of the planet's magnetic axis.
"The observed SAA can be also interpreted as a consequence of weakening dominance of the dipole field in the region," said NASA Goddard geophysicist and mathematician Weijia Kuang in 2020.
"More specifically, a localized field with reversed polarity grows strongly in the SAA region, thus making the field intensity very weak, weaker than that of the surrounding regions."
010 nasa south atlantic anomaly 2
Satellite data suggesting the SAA is dividing. (Division of Geomagnetism, DTU Space)
While there's much scientists still don't fully understand about the anomaly and its implications, new insights are continually shedding light on this strange phenomenon.
For example, one study led by NASA heliophysicist Ashley Greeley in 2016 revealed the SAA slowly drifts around, which was confirmed by subsequent tracking from CubeSats in research published in 2021.
It's not just moving, however. Even more remarkably, the phenomenon seems to be in the process of splitting in two, with researchers in 2020 discovering that the SAA appeared to be dividing into two distinct cells, each representing a separate center of minimum magnetic intensity within the greater anomaly.
Just what that means for the future of the SAA remains unknown, but in any case, there's evidence to suggest that the anomaly is not a new appearance.
A study published in July 2020 suggested the phenomenon is not a freak event of recent times, but a recurrent magnetic event that may have affected Earth since as far back as 11 million years ago.
If so, that could signal that the South Atlantic Anomaly is not a trigger or precursor to the entire planet's magnetic field flipping, which is something that actually happens, if not for hundreds of thousands of years at a time.
A more recent study published this year found the SAA also has an impact on auroras seen on Earth.
Obviously, huge questions remain, but with so much going on with this vast magnetic oddity, it's good to know the world's most powerful space agency is watching it as closely as they are.

Via The Mind Unleashed,
Imagine if something as common as the oil in your kitchen could be silently contributing to cancer. For millions around the world, this unsettling possibility has moved from speculation to science. Two studies, released just days apart, have cast a harsh spotlight on widely used cooking oils, suggesting a troubling connection between their consumption and increased cancer risks, particularly in the colon.

After 60 years of spaceflight patches, here are some of our favorites
Dec 29, 2024 4:00 AM
The art of space mission patches is now more than six decades old, dating to the Vostok 6 mission in 1963 that carried Soviet cosmonaut Valentina Tereshkova into low-Earth orbit for nearly three days.
The patch for the first female human spaceflight showcased a dove flying above the letters designating the Soviet Union, CCCP.
That patch was not publicly revealed at the time, and the use of specially designed patches was employed only infrequently by subsequent Soviet missions.
NASA's first mission patch would not follow for two years, but the practice would prove more sticky for missions in the United States and become a time-honored tradition.
The first NASA flight to produce a mission-specific patch worn by crew members was Gemini 5.
It flew in August 1965, carrying astronauts Gordon Cooper and Pete Conrad on an eight-day mission inside a small Gemini spacecraft. At the time, it was the longest spaceflight conducted by anyone.
Robert Pearlman has the story behind the patch at Collect Space, which came about because of the wishes of the crew. During the initial Mercury missions, the pilots were able to name their spacecraft—Freedom 7, Liberty Bell 7, and so on.
Cooper had named his Mercury spacecraft 'Faith 7.' But an increasingly buttoned-up NASA ended this practice for the Gemini missions, and when Cooper and Conrad were assigned to the third Gemini flight they considered alternatives.
"Several months before mission, I mentioned to Pete that I'd never been in a military organization that didn't have its own patch," Cooper recounted in Leap of Faith, his memoir. "We decided right then and there that we were at least going to have a patch for our flight."
They chose a covered wagon design to indicate the pioneering nature of the mission and came up with the "8 days or bust" slogan to highlight the extended duration of the flight.
Since then, virtually every NASA mission has included a patch design, typically with names of the crew members. The tradition has extended to non-human missions and has generally been adopted by space agencies around the world.
As such, there is a rich tradition of space mission patches to draw on, and we thought it would be fun to share some of our favorites over the decades.
Apollo 11
The first human mission to land on the Moon is one of the only NASA mission patches that does not include the names of the crew members, Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins.
This was a deliberate choice by the crew, who wanted the world to understand they were traveling to the Moon for all of humanity.
Another NASA astronaut, Jim Lovell, suggested the bald eagle could be the focus of the patch. Collins traced the eagle from a National Geographic children's magazine, and an olive branch was added as a symbol of the mission's peaceful intent.
The result is a clear symbol of the United States leading humanity to another world. It is simple and powerful.
Skylab rescue mission
Skylab was NASA's first space station, and it was launched into orbit after the final Apollo lunar landing in 1972.
From May 1973 to February 1974, three different crews occupied the space station, which had been placed in orbit by a modified Saturn V rocket.
Due to some problems with leaky thrusters on the Apollo spacecraft that carried the second crew to Skylab in 1973, NASA scrambled to put together a 'rescue' mission as a contingency.
In this rescue scenario, astronauts Vance Brand and Don Lind would have flown to the station and brought Alan Bean, Jack Lousma, and Owen Garriott back inside an Apollo capsule especially configured for five people.
Ultimately, NASA decided that the crew could return to Earth in the faulty Apollo spacecraft, with the use of just half of the vehicle's thrusters. So Brand and Lind never flew the rescue mission. But we got a pretty awesome patch out of the deal.

Space shuttle program
With the space shuttle, astronauts and patch artists had to get more creative because the vehicle flew so frequently—eventually launching 135 times. Some of my favorite patches from these flights came fairly early on in the program.
As it turns out, designing shuttle mission patches was a bonding exercise for crews after their assignments. Often one of the less experienced crew members would be given leadership of the project.
"During the Shuttle era, designing a mission emblem was one of the first tasks assigned to a newly formed crew of astronauts," Flag Research Quarterly reports.
"Within NASA, creation of the patch design was considered to be an important team-building exercise.
The crew understood that they were not just designing a patch to wear on their flight suits, but that they were also creating a symbol for everyone who was working on the flight."
In some cases the crews commissioned a well-known graphic designer or space artist to help them with their patch designs. More typically they worked with a graphic designer on staff at the Johnson Space Center to finalize the design.
National Reconnaissance Office
The activities of the US National Reconnaissance Office, which is responsible for the design and launching of spy satellites, are very often shrouded in secret.
However, the spy satellite agency cleverly uses its mission patches as an effective communications tool. The patches for the launch of its satellites never give away key details, but they are often humorous, ominous, and suggestive all at the same time.
The immediate response I often have to these patches is one of appreciation for the design, followed by a nervous chuckle. I suspect that's intended by the spy agency.
In any case, these are my choices for the best space patches ever, perhaps because they are developed with such abandon.
European Space Agency
The space agency that consists of a couple of dozen European nations has also created some banger patches over the years that both recognize the continent's long history of scientific discovery—with Newton, Kepler, Galileo, and Curie to name but a few—and the potential for future discovery in space.
Attached are some of my personal favorites, which highlight the launch of European astronauts on the Russian Soyuz spacecraft to three different Russian space stations across three decades.
What I like about the European mission designs is that they are unique and not afraid to break from the traditional mold of patch design. They're also beautiful!
SpaceX mission patches
In recent years, some of the most creative patch designs have come from SpaceX and its crewed spaceflights aboard the Dragon vehicle. Because of the spacecraft's name, the missions have often played off the Dragon motif, making for some striking designs.
There is a dedicated community of patch collectors out there, and some of them were disappointed that SpaceX stopped designing patches for each individual Starlink mission a few years ago.
However, I would say that buying two or three patches a week would have gotten pretty expensive, pretty fast—not to mention the challenge designers would face in making unique patches for each flight.
If you read this far and want to know my preference, I am not much of a patch collector, as much as I admire the effort and artistry that goes into each design.
I have only ever bought one patch, the one designed for the Falcon 1 rocket's fourth flight. The patch isn't beautiful, but it's got some nice touches, including lights for both Kwajalein and Omelek islands, where the company launched its first rockets.
Also, it was the first time the company included a shamrock on the patch, and that proved fortuitous, as the successful launch in 2008 saved the company. It has become a trademark of SpaceX patches ever since.

Dick Morris to Newsmax: Trump Will Stop the Grift With H-1Bs
https://www.newsmax.com/newsmax-tv/dick-morris-h-1b-visas-immigration/2024/12/28/id/1193190/
President-elect Donald Trump is setting a courseto keep the H-1B visa program honest and "stop the grift" in the program, political analyst Dick Morris told Newsmax Saturday.
Morris further said on Newsmax's "The Count" that he does not think there is a divide among conservatives concerning the program, which allows companies to hire foreign workers for employment in specialty occupations.
"I think Trump is just enforcing his will," Morris said. "That program has been rife with corruption ever since it started under the Clinton administration. [Alejandro] Mayorkas, the head of the immigration service, was literally working with Hillary's brother to get H-1B visas issued for a Chinese company that was producing weapons of mass destruction."
Trump said Saturday he supports keeping the program and appeared to agree with Elon Musk in the growing debate among conservatives on the issue.
"I've always liked the visas. I have always been in favor of the visas," Trump said about the program. "I have many H-1B visas on my properties. I've been a believer in H-1B. I have used it many times. It's a great program."
Morris told Newsmax that the "program has not been honest from the beginning, and there is a strong vested interest in it."
He added that Trump is "cracking down" to make sure the program stays honest.
"We do need the program, because there are many people who we need in our business world who have this expertise and we don't have enough Americans to fill that," he said. "I think Trump is setting a course here to keep it honest and stop the grift, but at the same time, to increase the availability of these skilled workers in the U.S."

BEN HABIB STABS REFORM U.K IN THE FRONT BACK AND SIDE
Note: This something anon thought was going on but did not want to admit it with ben habib, he is probably one of the best spoken high up members who left reform after farage came in leadership at the 2024 election.
brief summary, habib trashes reform and than states that the vetting for donations to the site can be done by anyone with a fake email and phone and he actually did it, so the numbers are not real, that that the ticker is not real, the donations are real but people with money are doing it. - what a betrayal.

Kemi Badenoch's feud with Reform escalates as Tory leader urges GB News boss to cut airtime for rival Nigel Farage after complaining broadcaster was 'offering a haven for my critics'

Kemi Badenoch’s unprecedented feud with Nigel Farage escalated tonight over claims she urged the head of a television station to cut the airtime given to the Reform UK leader.
The Tory leader is said to have accused GB News of giving too much of a platform to her critics and raised the spectre of regulatory action.
The revelation comes amid the row over Mr Farage’s claim that his party has more members than the Tories, which Mrs Badenoch has branded fake.
Sources told The Mail on Sunday that the broadcaster’s chief executive Angelos Frangopoulos was called in to Westminster before Christmas for a chat with Mrs Badenoch – but during the meeting she made it clear GB News should not be ‘a haven for my critics’.
Mr Farage has a primetime show on the Right-wing channel, which also airs other programmes fronted by Reform figures, including chief whip Lee Anderson and former Tory MP Andrea Jenkyns – as well as Mrs Badenoch’s Tory colleague and former leadership rival Robert Jenrick.
Tonight both sides played down the suggestion that the encounter between Mrs Badenoch and Mr Frangopoulos was in any way acrimonious.
But allies of the Tory leader confirmed she had raised the regulatory implications of the blurring of Mr Farage’s roles as both politician and broadcaster.
And GB News sources admitted that the amount of airtime given to Mr Farage was highlighted.

Russia Will Abandon Its Unilateral Missile Moratorium, Lavrov Says
https://www.newsmax.com/world/globaltalk/russia/2024/12/29/id/1193198/
Russia will scrap a moratorium on the deployment of intermediate and shorter range nuclear-capable missiles because the United States has deployed such weapons in various regions around the world, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said on Sunday.
Russia's move, long signaled, will kill off all that remains from one of the most significant arms control treaties of the Cold War, amid fears that the world's two biggest nuclear powers could be entering a new arms race together with China.
Russia and the United States, who both admit their relations are worse than at any time since the depths of the Cold War, have both expressed regret about the disintegration of the tangle of arms control treaties which sought to slow the arms race and reduce the risk of nuclear war.
Asked by state news agency RIA if Russia could withdraw from the New START treaty before its expiry in February 2026, Lavrov said that there were currently "no conditions" for a strategic dialog with Washington.
"Today it is clear that, for example, our moratorium on the deployment of short- and intermediate-range missiles is no longer practically viable and will have to be abandoned," Lavrov said.
"The U.S. has arrogantly ignored the warnings of Russia and China and in practice has moved on to the deployment of weapons of this class in various regions of the world."
The Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, signed by Mikhail Gorbachev and Ronald Reagan in 1987, marked the first time the superpowers had agreed to reduce their nuclear arsenals and eliminated a whole category of nuclear weapons.
The United States under former President Donald Trump formally withdrew from the INF Treaty in 2019 after saying that Moscow was violating the accord, an accusation the Kremlin repeatedly denied and dismissed as a pretext.
Russia then imposed a moratorium on its own development of missiles previously banned by the INF treaty - ground-based ballistic and cruise missiles with ranges of 500 km to 5,500 km (310 miles to 3,417 miles).
Trump in 2018 said he wanted to terminate the INF Treaty because of what he said were years of Russian violations and his concerns about China’s intermediate-range missile arsenal.
The United States publicly blamed Russia's development of the 9M729 ground-launched cruise missile, known in NATO as the SSC-8, as the reason for it leaving the INF Treaty.
In his moratorium proposal, Putin suggested Russia could agree not to deploy the missiles in its Baltic coast exclave of Kaliningrad. Since leaving the pact, the United States has tested missiles with a similar profile.
Russia fired a new intermediate-range hypersonic ballistic missile known as "Oreshnik," or Hazel Tree, at Ukraine on Nov. 21 in what Putin said was a direct response to strikes on Russia by Ukrainian forces with U.S. and British missiles.

Charles Dolan, HBO and Cablevision Founder, Dies at 98
https://www.newsmax.com/finance/streettalk/charles-dolan-dies-obituary-hbo-cablevision/2024/12/29/id/1193208/
Charles F. Dolan, who founded some of the most prominent U.S. media companies including Home Box Office Inc. and Cablevision Systems Corp., has died at age 98, according to a news report.
A statement issued Saturday by his family said Dolan died of natural causes, Newsday reported late Saturday.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father and patriarch, Charles Dolan, the visionary founder of HBO and Cablevision,” the statement said.
Dolan's legacy in cable broadcasting includes the 1972 launch of Home Box Office, later known as HBO, and founding Cablevision in 1973 and the American Movie Classics television station in 1984. He also launched News 12 in New York City, the first 24-hour cable channel for local news in the U.S., Newsday reported.
The Cleveland native, who dropped out of John Carroll University in suburban Cleveland, completed the sale of Cablevision to Altice, a European telecommunications and cable company, for $17.7 billion in June 2016.
Dolan, whose primary home was in Cove Neck Village on Long Island in New York, also held controlling stakes in companies that owned Madison Square Garden, Radio City Music Hall, the New York Knicks and the New York Rangers, Newsday reported.
James L. Dolan, one of his sons, was the Cablevision CEO from 1995 until the 2016 sale to Altice. He now is the executive chairman and CEO of Madison Square Garden Sports Corp. The company owns the Knicks and Rangers franchises, among other properties, according to the MSG Sports website.
Newsday, which Cablevision purchased in 2008, also came under the control of Altice with the sale. Patrick Dolan, another son of Charles Dolan, led a group that repurchased 75% of Newsday Media Group in July 2016. Patrick Dolan then purchased the remaining 25% stake in 2018.
At the time of his death, Charles Dolan and his family had a net worth of $5.4 billion, Forbes reported.
Dolan was a founder and chairman emeritus of The Lustgarten Foundation in Uniondale, New York, which conducts pancreatic cancer research.
He is survived by six children, 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. His wife, Helen Ann Dolan, died in 2023, Newsday reported.

Abortions are up in the US. It's a complicated picture as women turn to pills, travel==1/2
(This is sad, but it would be sadder if it wasn't the majority leftists wanting it)
GEOFF MULVIHILL and KEVIN S. VINEYS
Updated Sat, December 28, 2024 at 12:25 PM EST
Abortion has become slightly more common despite bans or deep restrictions in most Republican-controlled states, and the legal and political fights over its future are not over yet.
It's now been two and a half years since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and opened the door for states to implement bans.
The policies and their impact have been in flux ever since the ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization.
Here's a look at data on where things stand:
Abortions are slightly more common now than before Dobbs
Overturning Roe and enforcing abortion bans has changed how woman obtain abortions in the U.S.
But one thing it hasn't done is put a dent in the number of abortions being obtained.
There have been slightly more monthly abortions across the country recently than there were in the months leading up to the June 2022 ruling, even as the number in states with bans dropped to near zero.
“Abortion bans don’t actually prevent abortions from happening,” said Ushma Upadhyay, a public health social scientist at the University of California San Francisco.
But, she said, they do change care.
For women in some states, there are major obstacles to getting abortions — and advocates say that low-income, minority and immigrant women are least likely to be able to get them when they want.
For those living in states with bans, the ways to access abortion are through travel or abortion pills.
Pills become a bigger part of equation — and the legal questions
As the bans swept in, abortion pills became a bigger part of the equation.
They were involved in about half the abortions before Dobbs.More recently, it’s been closer to two-thirds of them, according to research by the Guttmacher Institute.
The uptick of that kind of abortion, usually involving a combination of two drugs, was underway before the ruling.
But now, it's become more common for pill prescriptions to be made by telehealth. By the summer of 2024, about 1 in 10 abortions was via pills prescribed via telehealth to patients in states where abortion is banned.
As a result, the pills are now at the center of battles over abortion access.
This month, Texas sued a New York doctor for prescribing pills to a Texas woman via telemedicine. There's also an effort by Idaho, Kansas and Missouri to roll back their federal approvals and treat them as “controlled dangerous substances,” and a push for the federal government to start enforcing a 19th-century federal law to ban mailing them.
Travel for abortion has increased
Clinics have closed or halted abortions in states with bans.
But a network of efforts to get women seeking abortions to places where they're legal has strengthened and travel for abortion is now common.
The Guttmacher Institute found that more than twice as many Texas residents obtained abortion in 2023 in New Mexico as New Mexico residents did. And as many Texans received them in Kansas as Kansans.
Abortion funds, which benefitted from “rage giving” in 2022, have helped pay the costs for many abortion-seekers. But some funds have had to cap how much they can give.
The abortion map has been in flux
Since the downfall of Roe, the actions of lawmakers and courts have kept shifting where abortion is legal and under what conditions.
Here's where it stands now:
The ban that took eff ect in Florida this year has been a game-changer
Florida, the nation’s third most-populous state, began enforcing a ban on abortions after the first six weeks of pregnancy on May 1.
That immediately changed the state from one that was a refuge for other Southerners seeking abortion to an exporter of people looking for them.

2/2
There were about 30% fewer abortions there in May compared with the averagefor the first three months of the year. And in June, there were 35% fewer.
While the ban is not unique, the impact is especially large. The average driving time from Florida to a facility in North Carolina where abortion is available for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy is more than nine hours, according to data maintained by Caitlin Myers, a Middlebury College economics professor.
Clinics have opened or expanded in some places
The bans have meant clinics closed or stopped offering abortions in some states.
But some states where abortion remains legal until viability – generally considered to be sometime past 21 weeks of pregnancy, though there’s no fixed time for it – have seen clinics open and expand.
Illinois, Kansas and New Mexico are among the states with new clinics.
There were 799 publicly identifiable abortion providers in the U.S. in May 2022, the month before the Supreme Court reversed Roe v. Wade. And by this November, it was 792, according to a tally by Myers, who is collecting data on abortion providers.
But Myers says some hospitals that always provided some abortions have begun advertising it. So they’re now in the count of clinics – even though they might provide few of them.
Lack of access to abortions during emergencies is threatening some patients' lives
How hospitals handle pregnancy complications, especially those that threaten the lives of the women, has emerged as a major issue since Roe was overturned.
President Joe Biden's administration says hospitals must offer abortions when they're needed to prevent organ loss, hemorrhage or deadly infections, even in states with bans. Texas is challenging the administration’s policy and the U.S. Supreme Court this year declined to take it up after the Biden administration sued Idaho.
More than 100 pregnant women seeking help in emergency rooms and were turned away or left unstable since 2022, The Associated Press found in an analysis of federal hospital investigative records.
Among the complaints were a woman who miscarried in the lobby restroom of Texas emergency room after staff refused to see her and a woman who gave birth in a car after a North Carolina hospital couldn't offer an ultrasound. The baby later died.
“It is increasingly less safe to be pregnant and seeking emergency care in an emergency department,” Dara Kass, an emergency medicine doctor and former U.S. Health and Human Services official told the AP earlier this year.
Abortion rights are popular with voters
Since Roe was overturned, there have been 18 reproductive rights-related statewide ballot questions.
Abortion rights advocates have prevailed on 14 of them and lost on four.
In the 2024 election, they amended the constitutions in five states to add the right to abortion. Such measures failed in three states: In Florida, where it required 60% support; in Nebraska, which had competing abortion ballot measures; and in South Dakota, where most national abortion rights groups did support the measure.
AP VoteCast data found that more than three-fifths of voters in 2024 supported abortion being legal in all or most cases – a slight uptick from 2020.The support came even as voters supported Republicans to control the White House and both houses of Congress. (I don't believe this poll)

Finally, An Electric Minivan With Six Wheels That Launches A Drone
Dec 29, at 10:00am ET
These days, buyers all over the world have more and better choices for going electric.
But one thing has been sorely missing until now: a six-wheeled EV minivan that can also launch its own people-carrying electric drone aircraft.
Finally, Xpeng AeroHT, an affiliate of Chinese electric car maker Xpeng, is giving the people what they want.
Xpeng AeroHT will bring its modular flying car concept to the United States.
Dubbed the Land Aircraft Carrier, it’s essentially a six-wheeled minivan that houses a separate foldable drone in the back.
The modular vehicle will appear at the CES tech trade show in Las Vegas in January.
It’s a pretty big deal, and it shows that the Chinese company is serious about its flying vehicle efforts.
Will it ever be sold stateside? We don’t know, but it’s a strong indication that Xpeng AeroHT, which claims it’s the largest flying car company in Asia, is thinking about it. But what is this Land Aircraft Carrier thing, anyway?
For starters, it’s not exactly what futurists envisioned flying cars would look like–as in, a car that you can also use as a flying vehicle. Instead, it’s two separate vehicles bundled together.
The base, called the Mothership, is a six-wheeled extended-range minivan. It has a combustion engine at the front which sends power to the car’s battery and electric motors.
It can also recharge the batteries of the people-carrying drone that sits in the back.
The flying part of Xpeng’s modular concept seats two and can be deployed at the push of a button.
The rotor arms need to be extended after it has been taken out of the van, but after that, the pilot can fly the thing either from inside or outside, using a remote control.
Xpeng AeroHT claims the six-rotor electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft can be flown with a single hand thanks to its innovative single-lever control system, and that it takes just five minutes to learn how to fly–and three hours to master it.
The battery of the aircraft can supposedly be charged from 30% to 80% in 18 minutes. With a full battery, it supports five to six flights, but the company didn’t say how long these flights would last.
The first unmanned public flight of the six-rotor electric drone happened in China last month. Xpeng AeroHT said production and deliveries will start sometime in 2026, with a planned output of 10,000 units per year.
The Land Aircraft Carrier will cost up to $280,000 (2 million yuan) in China, and the company claims it has already received over 2,000 pre-orders.

Democrats taunt Trump with ‘President Musk’ moniker
BY ALEX GANGITANO AND MIKE LILLIS 12/29/24
The Democrats stupid "Divide and Conquer" childish scheme. ==1/2
Democrats are taunting President-elect Trump with claims that billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk is calling the shots instead of the incoming president.
And with Musk set to play a major role in Trump’s second term — both as co-chair of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and a close presidential ally — it remains to be seen if the moniker of “President Musk” will cause a rift between the famously mercurial incoming president and the richest man in the world. (Are you kidding me?)
Lawmakers began the effort after Musk helped kill a bipartisan spending agreement that had taken months to work out.
Rep. Ami Bera (D-Calif.) noted that Musk launched the public opposition campaign long before Trump issued his own statement critical of the deal, suggesting Musk compelled the president-elect to intervene, even if he had no previous designs to do so. “Elon Musk dives in, and I think forces Trump to dive in,” Bera said.
That power dynamic, Bera added, could spell trouble in the future, as two of the most powerful figures in the world— while aligned for the moment — might be headed for a messy divorce if or when their interests and egos collide.
“What we learned from former President Trump is that he doesn’t want to share the spotlight with anyone, so what does that look like?” Bera asked.
Musk was tasked with leading DOGE in order to find ways to make government more efficient and to cut waste. But his role appears to be growing as he involves himself in government funding fights, joins key meetings with Trump and shares his opinion on top issues, like calling for “some basic cognitive test for elected officials” after the news broke that Rep. Kay Granger (R-Texas) has had health challenges that kept her away from the Capitol for months.
Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-Md.), who served as the second-ranking Democrat for two decades, is among the lawmakers who’s now referring to the billionaire entrepreneur as “President Musk.”
“We had an agreement that was jointly reached,” Hoyer said during the chaotic stalemate last week, “and that monkey wrench was put in there by 50 or 100 tweets by Musk that turned the Republicans around.”
Trump and Musk have had a close relationship since before the election and appear to still be on good terms, despite the power dynamic that has led some to claim the tech tycoon is in charge.

Political watchers have wondered when the relationship between the two big personalities will go sour and even some Republicans assume a rift is inevitable, especially with Musk working closely with the Trump team as he takes on DOGE.
“I assume at some point there’ll be a rift because history tells us…most people do not last a long time in Trump’s world. Maybe, Musk will people defy that but history tells us that that’s not the case,” GOP strategist Doug Heye said.
Heye called the Democrats’ efforts to get under Trump’s skin by labeling Musk as president “just trolling” and argued it’s “not always effective.”
A Trump spokesperson fired back at Democrats, saying the party “just lost the House, Senate, and presidency because their abysmal policy proposals failed Americans for the past four years.”
“Democrats have nothing but ad-hominem attacks because they lost everything,” Trump-Vance Transition spokesperson Anna Kelly added.
Among Democrats who are propping up Musk with the faux title of president, there seem to be different motivations.
Some said they think it simply reflects the reality of who’s truly in charge, and they’re hoping to shine a bright light on the extraordinary fact that an unelected figure has assumed so much power over public policy.
“The fact speaks for itself: The one that first disrupted the bill was Musk, and the one that helped pay for the presidency was Musk, and the one that has been in front of Trump— and that’s hard to do— has been Musk,” Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-N.Y.) said. “So it’s clear to me that there’s some kind of coalition between the two of them on what is the best way to run the country.”
Meeks suggested Trump would be easier to work with without Musk’s intervention in policy debates. “That probably would be helpful,” he said.
Still, there’s also a sense that the Democrats’ “President Musk” campaign is part of a political strategy designed to drive a wedge between the billionaire, who plays by his own rules, and the incoming president, who demands loyalty and doesn’t have much tolerance for challenges to his authority.
Most might not be saying it out loud, but some lawmakers suggestedthat was at least part of the objective.
Asked if Democrats were trying to incite that clash, Bera was coy.“We would never do anything like that,==” he quipped.
Democrats piled on the Musk taunts in the midst of the impasse over government funding, which was solved just before the deadline on Friday. Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) argued Musk “pulled the rug out from underneath” Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Rep. Lois Frankel (D-Fla.) argued that Musk “is calling the shots.”
Former Rep. Joe Crowley (D-N.Y.), who called Musk Trump’s “second vice president,” called the degree of influence the South African-born billionaire has as an unelected official “unprecedented.”
Pretty amazing they had a fake president and the staff running things, but criticizing Trump for having an advisor?

Easily fixed by raising the minimum salary significantly and adding a yearly cost for maintaining the H1B, making it materially more expensive to hire from overseas than domestically.

Drones attacked Rostov region: Locomotive depot damaged
Sun, December 29, 2024 - 14:27
Russia reports a drone attack in the Rostov region, damaging a locomotive depot in Salsk, according to Rostov Governor Yuri Slyusar and the ASTRA Telegram channel.
According to the Russian governor, the attack by the UAV in Salsk caused "minor damage to the structure at the locomotive depot."
"There was no fire at the crash site. Preliminary reports indicate that no one was injured. Emergency services have arrived at the scene," Slyusar reported.
Later, he clarified that another UAV was reportedly shot down near Salsk. Footage of the drone flying over Salsk has already been shared online.
As reported, recently the Ukrainian Air Forces targeted a facility in the Rostov region. The plant is involved in the production of fuel for ballistic missiles.
Additionally, on the night of December 19, several cities in the Rostov region were subjected to a massive drone and missile attack.
Allegedly, the occupiers' air defense forces shot down the strike drones and missiles.

WATCH WHO chief escape Israeli airstrike
Tedros Ghebreyesus was in Yemen’s airport when it was hit by the IDF
The head of the UN’s global health watchdog said he narrowly escaped death when Israel struck the airport in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa, on Thursday.
World Health Organization (WHO) chief Tedros Ghebreyesus visited the civil-war torn country to negotiate the release of UN workers held by the Houthis rebels who control Sanaa. Israeli jets struck the airport as the UN team was about to board their plane.
Security camera footage posted by Ghebreyesus shows the WHO chief being quickly escorted by his team from the airport lounge, as well as a strike on a control tower.
“It was very chaotic. People were in disarray and running everywhere and no shelter: we were completely exposed,” Ghebreyesus told reporters after returning to Switzerland on Saturday, as quoted by AFP.
“It’s a matter of luck. Otherwise, if the missile deviated just slightly, it could have been on our heads… my colleague actually said after all that, we escaped death narrowly.”
In a post on X, Ghebreyesus thanked everyone for the words of support. “I’m especially grateful to the colleagues and airport staff, who were selfless as they tried to protect me,” he said.
Julien Harneis, the UN’s coordinator for Yemen, said that a UN worker was injured with shrapnel. “I saw his blood on the tarmac this morning as we said goodbye to Tedros,” he said on Friday.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) conducted airstrikes in response to Houthi missile attacks on Tel Aviv and other Israeli cities. According to the IDF, the Houthis were using the country’s airport and seaports to smuggle weapons from Iran.

Elon Musk Says “Hateful, Unrepentant Racists” MAGA Should Be Removed from the Republican Party “Root and Stem” as Debate Over H-1B Visas Intensifies
In a recent escalation of the internal Republican Party debate over H-1B visas, tech magnate Elon Musk has called for the expulsion of “hateful, unrepentant racists” from the party.
This statement comes amid rising tensions between Silicon Valley leaders and certain factions of the MAGA movement regarding the employment of highly skilled foreign workers.
The controversy centers on the appointment of Sriram Krishnan, an Indian-American entrepreneur, as a senior policy advisor on artificial intelligence in President-elect Donald Trump’s administration.
Krishnan’s selection has drawn criticism from the MAGA movement, notably Laura Loomer, who accused Indian immigrants of “stealing jobs” and labeled them as “third-world invaders.”
Laura Loomer then claimed that she was suspended for 12 hours on X after a heated exchange with the platform’s billionaire owner, Elon Musk
Musk, a staunch advocate for merit-based immigration, defended Krishnan and condemned the racist rhetoric.
Scott Adams, the creator of the comic strip Dilbert, responded to a statement from Neera Tanden, President Joe Biden’s director of the U.S. Domestic Policy Council.
"MAGA is taking a page from Democrats on how to lose elections while feeling good about themselves," Adams wrote.
Tanden had earlier shared her perspective, saying: "I am an Indian American who was born here and it's crystal clear that the Democratic Party sees me as American and a large part of the base of the Republican Party does not. I hope Indian Americans remember this moment at the next election. They don't see you as one of them. And never will. You thought they just hated other immigrants. But it turns out there's no exception for you. As many of us have been telling you."

Elon Musk also weighed in, posting: "Yes. And those contemptible fools must be removed from the Republican Party, root and stem."
Musk clarified his comments, adding, "The “contemptible fools” I’m referring to are those in the Republican Party who are hateful, unrepentant racists. They will absolutely be the downfall of the Republican Party if they are not removed."

Musk previously wrote, “The reason I’m in America along with so many critical people who built SpaceX, Tesla and hundreds of other companies that made America strong is because of H1B.”
He added, “Take a big step back and FUCK YOURSELF in the face. I will go to war on this issue the likes of which you cannot possibly comprehend.”

On Saturday, President-elect Donald J. Trump weighed in on the debate over the controversial H-1B visa worker program that has roiled his MAGA supporters this week after comments by Trump allies Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy in support of the foreign worker program.
The debate has caused a fracture in Trump’s 2024 election coalition, with avid Trump supporter Laura Loomer apparently being penalized on the Musk-owned X over her criticism of Musk and immigrant worker visas, and former Trump White House advisor Steve Bannon speaking out against Musk and Ramaswamy.
Trump spoke to New York Post reporter Jon Levine by phone, telling him he supports H-1B (excerpt):
“I’ve always liked the visas, I have always been in favor of the visas. That’s why we have them,” Trump said by phone, referring to the H-1B program, which permits companies to hire foreign workers in specialty occupations.
“I have many H-1B visas on my properties. I’ve been a believer in H-1B. I have used it many times. It’s a great program,” added Trump, who restricted access to foreign worker visas in his first administration and has been critical of the program in the past.

Russia Deploys New Anti-Drone Buggies on the Battlefield
Dec 29, 2024
In response to the growing threat of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in the ongoing Ukraine conflict, Russian forces have introduced a new counter-drone system designed to neutralize aerial threats.
The system, which features a 24-barrel shotgun-like weapon mounted on a modified 4×4 Lada Niva chassis, reflects a shift in tactical thinking to counter the rising use of drones for both reconnaissance and attacks.
The vehicle’s key feature is a remotely operated turret with 24 shotgun barrels, configured to fire buckshot-like ammunition.
This unique setup is designed to create a wide impact area, making it effective against low-flying drones.
The system’s large spread maximizes the chances of hitting a drone, especially in close-range combat.
To further bolster its defensive capabilities, the vehicle is equipped with six AK-12 rifles, which provide an additional layer of protection from aerial threats.
These anti-drone buggies are primarily used to patrol high-risk areas, such as frontlines and strategic installations.
Their mobility allows them to respond quickly to incoming drone strikes, whether in urban settings or rural battlefields. However, the system’s effectiveness is not without limitations.
The shotgun setup’s range is limited, and its performance against high-altitude or fast-moving drones is reduced.
Additionally, reloading the 24-barrel weapon can be a slow process, potentially hindering its use in prolonged engagements or against large swarms of drones.
In addition to kinetic countermeasures, Russian forces, like their Ukrainian counterparts, have been exploring electronic warfare tools to disrupt drone communications and navigation.
This multi-layered approach reflects the rapidly evolving nature of drone warfare, as both sides adapt their strategies in response to each other’s technological advancements.
Looking ahead, the development of anti-drone systems is expected to continue, with a focus on improving range, accuracy, and speed of response.
As drone and counter-drone technology advances, military forces worldwide will likely invest in more versatile, deployable systems to stay ahead in this high-tech arms race.

Major meat suppliers in the USA CAUGHT using GLUE on MEAT to stick together scraps and fraudulently sell them as PRIME CUTS
Fraudulent meat suppliers are using meat muscle scraps and toxic glue to create fake prime cuts, deceiving consumers and putting their health at risk.
The toxic powder, transglutaminase enzyme, is made from cultivating bacteria and animal blood, raising concerns about its safety and potential health impacts.
Meat glue is not limited to beef but is also used in pork, lamb, fish, and chicken, compounding health risks for consumers.
The deceptive practices extend to labeling, with glued meat products often ambiguously labeled, leading to unknowing consumption by consumers.
Urgent action is needed to address the fraudulent use of meat glue, protect consumers, and ensure transparency and safety in the food industry.
Fraudulent meat suppliers are using meat muscle scraps and literally glueing them together to make them look like prime cuts, then selling them for top prices to unsuspecting consumers, who then swallow the toxic meat, if they can even chew it, and get sick. This is poisonous glue used to bind together parts of the animal most people would never buy or eat. Surprise, surprise. Welcome to Big Food of America, where it’s all about the money, and never about the health of the consumer.
The fake steak makers call the meat glue a “special enzyme” while they wear protective masks so they won’t breathe in the fumes from the poisonous glue. One of these fake steak makers was caught on video telling an interested party that it’s dangerous and “don’t breathe that in” when he spreads the toxic enzyme powder on the muscle tissue chunks of animal carcass.
Fake steak makers should be sued, prosecuted, and put out of business for good, but the FDA in America is so corrupt, they’re probably “in on it” too
The toxic powder is called transglutaminase enzyme made by cultivating bacteria and from a coagulant from the blood of animals that causes blood to clot. So, do humans who eat this meat glue get blood clots? No research has been done on this because the FDA doesn’t care. As long as it makes the meat industry more money, that’s all that matters in the USA. “Meat glue, it’s what’s for dinner!”
This meat glue is being used for more than just beef, meat glue is being mixed into pork, lamb, fish and chicken parts. Add this in with spike proteins that are now being created inside animals that are injected with mRNA jabs, and you’ve got a health nightmare happening to every person who eats conventional meat.
Thanks to the Alliance for Natural Health-USA (ANH-USA), the dark truth behind "meat glue" has been uncovered, raising serious concerns about the fraud and toxicity associated with this deceptive practice. Meat glue is banned in Europe, by the way. Of course, the FDA calls it GRAS, which stands for generally regarded as safe, even though it is not.
The ANH-USA has sounded the alarm on the dangers of meat glue, emphasizing the toxic nature of this enzyme. Not only is meat glue made from the blood plasma of pigs and cows, but it also poses significant health risks to consumers. The enzyme is so toxic that workers handling it must wear masks to prevent inhalation.
Furthermore, the deceptive labeling of meat products formed with glue adds another layer of concern. While supermarkets are required to label such products vaguely as "formed from pieces of whole muscle meat," the restaurant industry often serves glued steaks without disclosure to customers.
The implications of consuming glued meat go beyond deception. Pathogens present on the surface of different meat cuts can contaminate the entire glued steak, increasing the risk of foodborne illnesses. Additionally, individuals may develop immune reactivity to meat glue, potentially triggering autoimmune disorders.
As the new administration led by Trump and RFK Jr. prepares to take office in January, urgent action is needed to address this fraudulent and hazardous practice. It is imperative that measures are taken to halt the use of meat glue and protect consumers from the risks associated with its consumption.
Stay informed, stay vigilant, and demand transparency in the food industry to ensure the safety and integrity of the food on your plate. The time to put an end to the meat glue deception is now.

Drones Armed with Shotguns Take Down russian UAVs
December 29, 2024
Ukrainian forces have adopted a new tactic in combating hostile unmanned aerial vehicles.
Russian sources shared footage on social media showing Ukrainian Defense Forces using FPV drones equipped with shotguns to neutralize enemy UAVs.
This is how russian drones were destroyed using this weapon combination:
In the first two short but compelling clips, the footage shows a precise shot as the Ukrainian FPV drone approaches the enemy UAV, successfully shooting it down.
The emergence of several successful episodes of using FPV drones with shotguns suggests that Ukrainian forces may have moved past the testing phase and are now collaborating with developers to scale up this technology.
While the extent of deployment and actual efficiency rate of FPV drones with shotguns remain unclear, this approach has already demonstrated its potential by ensuring accurate shooting against aerial targets.
The operator's skill also plays a critical role in this success. This isn’t the first time Ukrainian forces have successfully modified FPV drones with unconventional weapons.
Previously, they used FPV drones equipped with grenade launchers on the battlefield. Currently, anti-aircraft FPV drones are considered a significant innovation in the fight against UAVs.
As of late November, a single project involving such drones has accounted for the destruction of over 400 russian UAVs, including Orlan, Zala, and Lancet loitering munitions.
If the shotgun-equipped FPV drones are successfully scaled, they could dramatically increase the number of enemy drones shot down, offering a highly effective countermeasure against hostile UAVs.

Trump border czar considering military bases to aid deportations: ‘Certainly on the table’
President-elect Donald Trump‘s border czar considers the U.S. military to be a “force multiplier“ in the soon-to-launch mass deportations of millions of illegal aliens and he wants to use Pentagon bases and planes to speed such operations.
“It’s something that’s certainly on the table,” Homan told The Wall Street Journal. “We’re waiting to see what Congress is going to give us for funding.”
There is precedent for enlisting military help on immigration matters, as both President Barack Obama and Joe Biden use military bases to house unaccompanied migrant children who crossed the border illegally without their parents. Biden also used military installations to house Afghan refugees.
Military assets under federal law could not be used to arrest illegal immigrants, but they could provide assistance after aliens are taken into custody by caring for them at bases or shipping them back to their home country.
Trump has said he will declare a national emergency on immigration his first day in office, empowering his administration to tap money from the Pentagon in addition to any monies that Congress might appropriate.
Homan told the Journal he views the military as a “force multiplier” that could help with transportation, administrative duties, intelligence analysis and building infrastructure.
Homan said he hopes to have a better sense soon about how much money the Trump administration will need from Congress for securing the border and launching the mass deportations

Subject: Visa for India
Dear Huma,
As I explained on the phone, we've hit a brick wall in trying to get a visa for my son to travel to
India. We are scheduled to leave on Saturday, December 26, but without a visa he of course cannot go and I will not go
without him. My visa has been issued by Travisa Outsourcing, the company to which the Government of India has
outsourced all visa processing. However, despite the fact that Travisa does all of India's visa processing, and ordinarily
does it on a same-day basis, their office here in Washington, DC (located in Georgetown) refused to process my son's
visa application because he is a California resident and they are organized so that their various offices (New York,
Washington, San Francisco, Chicago, and
Houston) issue visas only for residents of the immediate vicinity of the particular office. Thus, for example, the
Washington office issues visas for residents of Delaware, Washington, DC, Maryland, West Virginia, and the like, but will
not process visas for residents beyond this area. The New York office, likewise, processes visas only for residents of New
York, New Jersey, CT, and the like, but not Washington. My son of course has a valid US passport, but the visa
requirements also require proof of residence, and because his driver's license is a California license (because that is his
residence), Travisa Outsourcing said they could not process his visa application.

Turns out, it wasn't a bird sucked into the engine after all...
Crashed Azerbaijani plane hit from ground – president
The passenger jet had also been rendered inoperable by electronic warfare means, Ilham Aliyev has claimed
The passenger jet that crashed in Kazakhstan earlier this week had been struck from the ground near the Russian city of Grozny, Azeri President Ilham Aliyev has claimed.
An Embraer 190, operating as Azerbaijan Airlines flight J2-8243 from Baku to Grozny, diverted to Kazakhstan and crashed on Wednesday, killing 38 of the 67 people on board.
In a Sunday interview with the state-run broadcaster AzTV, Aliyev claimed that the aircraft “was damaged from the outside on Russian territory, near the city of Grozny, and almost got out of control.”
“We are also aware that our aircraft was rendered uncontrollable by electronic warfare means... In addition, the tail section of the plane was severely damaged by fire from the ground,” he said.
Aliyev noted that the exact circumstances of the crash would become known after the data from flight recorders is accessed. However, he insisted that the preliminary versions of the incident “are well founded and based on facts.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin called Aliyev on Saturday to express his condolences over the deadly plane crash, the Kremlin said in a statement. He offered an apology to his Azeri counterpart for the fact that the incident, which he attributed to a Ukrainian UAV raid, “took place in Russian airspace.”
Grozny, the capital of the Russian republic of Chechnya, as well as other cities in the region, “were being attacked by Ukrainian combat drones at the time, and Russian air defenses were repelling those attacks,” the statement read.
Russia’s Investigative Committee is probing the incident for possible violations of air traffic safety rules, with “civilian and military specialists” in the country being questioned, the Kremlin said.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists that Putin and Aliyev held another phone call on Sunday, during which the two leaders continued to discuss issues related to the tragic incident.

sensitive cases weigh moves ahead of Donald Trump’s second term WSJ.1/2

President-elect Donald Trump and his appointees are floating plans to bring the Justice Department under closer presidential control and fire career employees.
WASHINGTON—Justice Department lawyers who have angered President-elect Donald Trump and his allies are facing tough decisions about whether to stay in government—and how to best protect themselves from threats of retribution after Inauguration Day.
Dozens of prosecutors and agents have worked on cases that potentially make them vulnerable, such as special counsel investigations of Trump, prosecutions of hundreds of his supporters who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and contempt-of-Congress cases that sent top Trump associatesSteve Bannon and Peter Navarro to prison this year.
Their concerns are part of a broader wave of uncertainty that has swept through the Justice Department since Trump’s re-election, as he and his appointees openly float plans to fire career employees and bring the department more closely under presidential control.
Some department lawyers on the fence about leaving have sought counsel from Attorney General Merrick Garland and other senior officials, who have encouraged them to stay on for continuity of government and for their expertise, people familiar with the discussions said.
Law firms say they have seen an unprecedented flood of résumés from department lawyers looking for the exits. While presidential transitions always upend the ranks of political appointees, “now, it’s seeping into a lot of career people,” said Steve Nelson, a legal recruiter who helps lawyers make the jump from government into the private sector.
Attorney General Merrick Garland, shown addressing the Justice Department workforce in September, has encouraged department lawyers to remain for continuity of government and for their expertise.
“The number of people leaving, or looking at opportunities outside the Justice Department or elsewhere in the government, is way higher than it’s ever been before,” Nelson said.
Some Justice Department officials who might not have gone into private practice are now considering jobs at big firms as the best way to personally protect themselves.
One problem: There aren’t enough Big Law landing spots for all the attorneys eager for private practice. Some who sent out résumés have since decided to stay, unwilling or unable to give up their dream government jobs right away, department employees said.
Others have sought legal guidance from friends and private lawyers in preparation for the ways the next Trump administration and its supporters could make their lives difficult whether or not they leave the government, from potential harassment to investigations that could hurt them legally and financially for years.(like you assholes did to Americans? Wow)
At the center of the storm is special counsel Jack Smith and his team, some of whom are expected to leave, people close to them said, rather than return to department positions they held before being detailed to investigate and prosecute Trump for election interference and mishandling classified documents. Smith last month dropped both cases, citing longstanding Justice Department policy of not prosecuting a sitting president. (Smith is not even a government employee!)
Jack Smith, the U.S. special counsel who led the prosecutions of Donald Trump over election interference and mishandling of documents, is at the center of the uncertainty.
Smith still has to submit a report of the investigations to Garland, who has promised to make it public. That could further increase tensions with the incoming administration, but the report is likely to add little beyond the information that has already been made public, people familiar with it said.
A spokesman for Smith declined to comment. A Trump transition spokesman didn’t respond to a request for comment.
Trump’s surrogates and nominees have voiced a series of warnings.

“Career Justice Department lawyers must be fully committed to implementing President Trump’s policies or they should leave or be fired,” Mark Paoletta, who worked on Trump’s Justice Department transition team, said in a series of social-media posts after the election.
If confirmed, Trump’s nominee for attorney general, Pam Bondi, would lead the department after emerging as one of its leading critics since Trump was indicted.
“The Department of Justice, the prosecutors, will be prosecuted, the bad ones,” Bondi said on Fox News last year. “The investigators will be investigated.…We can clean house next term, and that’s what has to happen.”
Pam Bondi, center, Trump’s pick for attorney general, emerged as a leading critic of the Justice Department after he was indicted.
Kash Patel, the hard-line conservative provocateur Trump wants to lead the Federal Bureau of Investigation, has made similar statements, pledging to hollow out the bureau’s ranks.
Exhaustive congressional inquiries could provide another avenue for Trump and his allies to exact a measure of payback. Lawmakers on Capitol Hill have already told Smith’s team to retain all their records and communications.
Since Trump’s election,a loose network of sympathetic lawyers has formed in preparation for defending Smith’s teamand other officials who may face scrutiny from the Trump administration. Attorneys started calling friends and colleagues in the weeks after Trump was re-elected to see who would be willing to volunteer, people familiar with the effort said.
Civil service rules offer career employees some protection against being outright fired, andsome lawyers see the chances of them being dismissed—or even prosecuted—as remote.
“We can’t fall down before we get hit. We can’t be hysterical,” said William Taylor, a defense lawyer familiar with efforts to recruit attorneys for government officials. “They’re going to make life unpleasant for some people, but actual consequences to people are really unlikely.”

These lawyers always get off for their crimes, but not this time. They seriously underestimate the terribly illegal things they did to all Americans and President Trump, and how pissed off that we would be, if they let these criminals off the hook.

2024 Trafficking in Persons Report: Hong Kong
The Government of Hong Kong does not fully meet the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking but is making significant efforts to do so. These efforts included increasing the number of screenings of vulnerable populations for trafficking indicators, arresting six alleged sex traffickers, and training officials from various agencies on anti-trafficking topics. However, the government did not demonstrate overall increasing efforts compared with the previous reporting period. It did not convict any sex traffickers and did not convict any labor traffickers for the fifth consecutive year. Victim identification efforts and services remained inadequate. Despite the government screening thousands of vulnerable persons for trafficking indicators, it identified only three victims, a decrease compared with identifying 32 victims during the previous reporting period. The government did not provide services to any victims. Foreign domestic workers remained at high risk of trafficking, and authorities did not take adequate measures to protect them and prevent trafficking; the government did not identify any victims among foreign domestic workers. A code of practice is in place; however, the government allowed employers and labor recruiters to charge recruitment fees to migrant workers, and did not adequately enforce limits on such fees, passport retention, and other practices that increase trafficking risks. Authorities likely penalized trafficking victims through arrest and deportation for immigration, narcotics, and commercial sex offenses committed as a direct result of being trafficked. The government did not fully criminalize all forms of trafficking and did not provide comprehensive data of successful trafficking investigations, prosecutions, or victim identification efforts independent of associated criminal investigations. Therefore Hong Kong was downgraded to Tier 2 Watch List.
PRIORITIZED RECOMMENDATIONS:
Improve the quality of screenings conducted to identify trafficking victims, increasingly screen individuals in commercial sex and foreign domestic workers for trafficking, and ensure children exploited in commercial sex are identified as trafficking victims and referred to services. * Enact legislation that criminalizes all forms of trafficking consistent with the definition set forth in the 2000 UN TIP Protocol. * Ensure authorities offer and refer trafficking victims to services. * Vigorously investigate and prosecute suspected sex and labor traffickers and seek adequate penalties for convicted traffickers, which should involve significant prison terms. * Engage in continuous and regular collaboration with NGOs and social welfare experts to update anti-trafficking policies; review victim-centered interview processes and investigations. * Cease penalization of victims for criminal offenses committed as a direct result of being trafficked. * Create in-depth training programs for the judiciary, labor tribunal, and other interagency stakeholders. * Develop formal SOPs for referring victims to care and train stakeholders on their use. * Increase the availability and quality of protection services – including short-term shelter, long-term housing, counseling, and medical care – for all trafficking victims, including by partnering with and allocating sufficient funding and/or in-kind support to civil society service providers. * Allow foreign victims to work and study in Hong Kong while participating in judicial proceedings against traffickers. * Increase protections for foreign domestic workers, including by prohibiting worker-charged recruitment fees, permanently eliminating the “two-week rule” affording workers an option to live outside their place of employment, and creating legal maximum working hours.
