An obscure cryptocurrency advocate from Florida may be the original source of an incendiary document at the heart of the seditious conspiracy charges against members of the Proud Boys.
Samuel Armes told the Jan. 6 select committee in a newly disclosed interview that he didn’t draft the document, titled “1776 returns,” itself — and had no role in aspects that laid out an operational strategy to occupy federal buildings on Jan. 6, 2021, to disrupt the transfer of presidential power from Donald Trump to Joe Biden.
But in a colorful hourlong interview with the committee, Armes said he helped formulate some of the ideas that the document relied on — and that eventually ended up in the hands of Proud Boys national chair Enrique Tarrio, one of five charged with seditious conspiracy.
The revelation comes just as Tarrio and his four allies — Ethan Nordean, Joe Biggs, Zachary Rehl and Dominic Pezzola — are set to go to trial on allegations that they spearheaded the violent assault on the Capitol, pinpointing weak points around the Capitol and using the cover of the mob to help overwhelm police lines.
Prosecutors cited “1776 Returns” in Tarrio’s indictment. The document describes plans to “Storm the Winter Palace” — a reference to the Russian Revolution of 1917. The indictment also notes that in celebratory text messages with Tarrio, an associate referenced 1776 and Tarrio responded with “The Winter Palace.”

>Jan. 6 committee interview sheds light on origins of Proud Boys ‘1776 returns’ document
Armes, a former State Department and Special Operations official, said he recognized components of the document as ideas he had composed as part of a “war gaming” exercise he did in August or September of 2020. He would later share those ideas with a friend in the crypto industry who happened to be an associate of Tarrio’s.
Armes’ connections, via his crypto advocacy, to figures associated with Jan. 6 don’t end there. He also developed an association with a member of the Oath Keepers now facing obstruction charges. And he co-founded a Florida-based cryptocurrency LLC — Government Blockchain Systems — with former Seminole County tax collector Joel Greenberg, an associate of Trump adviser Roger Stone and Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.). Greenberg would later face a slew of federal felony charges related to sex trafficking and financial crimes, including using Government Blockchain Systems as part of a scheme to embezzle $400,000 from local taxpayers. Armes was not charged in connection with the effort.
Armes said that in college he had been groomed to join the CIA and FBI before his stint in the State Department and special operations. He also briefly worked for a Florida state representative before ultimately veering into crypto. In his studies, he often participated in “war gaming” scenarios, skills he used during his stint in government.
Armes told the panel that in August or September 2020, after observing riots that took place across the country — against the backdrop of the raging Covid pandemic — he jotted down some thoughts on potential worst-case scenarios for the transfer of power. His views, he said, were partially informed by the August release of the Transition Integrity Project, a similar “war gaming” exercise conducted by 100 campaign and government experts to envision potential threats to the transfer of power.
“It was just how I thought things might happen in a scenario where a certain president doesn’t leave the White House or there is just mad chaos in the streets because no one knows who’s in charge,” Armes said.
Armes said his eventual three-to-five-page document sketched out scenarios in which an unruly mob might gather in Washington, and he appended images and Google Maps screenshots. While it was meant to be a private document, Armes said, he recalled sharing it with an interested friend, Erika Flores, an ally from the cryptocurrency world with whom he interacted frequently in the latter months of 2020. Flores, he noted, was also a friend of Tarrio’s.

“So I ended up sharing it with her on a Google Drive. And after that, I thought nothing of it,” Armes told the committee. “I would’ve never imagined that it turned into the document that I was shown last week, would’ve had zero clue, zero idea. … It’s horrific for me to even imagine that something that I would’ve written would’ve been used to source this kind of, like — I guess call it ‘terroristic document.’”
Attorneys for Tarrio did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Flores could not immediately be reached for comment, but she appears to have spoken with the select committee, as well. A committee investigator told Armes that Flores attributed the writing of the “1776 Returns” document to him and asked her to share it with Tarrio. Asked about that contention, Armes called it “blame-shifting.”
Armes went through the nine-page “1776 Returns” document with the committee, separating aspects that he said he had written from components he said he did not. Armes said he had a cursory relationship with Tarrio as a result of their mutual friendship with Flores. Flores, he recalled, introduced them in Miami and Tarrio tried to get Armes’ advice for building out his T-shirt-selling business. Armes said he also met Tarrio once at a restaurant with Flores.

Armes’ connection with at least one other figure associated with Jan. 6 also piqued the committee’s interest in Oath Keeper James Beeks.
Beeks, a Michael Jackson impersonator who had been starring in a touring production of “Jesus Christ Superstar” when he was arrested for his role in the Jan. 6 attack, also met Armes through crypto-related endeavors.
Armes said Beeks had encouraged him to join the Oath Keepers and expressed his anti-government worldview in conversations. Armes said Beeks also made romantic advances, which he says he rebuffed. Beeks invited Armes to join him in Washington on Jan. 6, Armes recalled, but he turned him down. Armes said he had been interviewed by Justice Department investigators about this connection. Beeks is set to go on trial in February.
The odd connections between Armes and two prominent Jan. 6 figures — both derived from their crypto connections — prompted a moment of levity during the interview.
“I promise, we’re not all like that,” Armes joked.
“I feel like that, at the end of this conversation, we need to have a followup rehabilitative conversation about the joys of crypto,” joked his lawyer, Anessa Santos.
Armes’ short interview featured yet another memorable — if humorous — exchange when Armes’ leg cramped and he was suddenly incapacitated.
“Charley horse. Charley horse,” his lawyer said.
“I’m good. I just did leg squats today, and I maxed out my PR squats and now its hurting,” Armes replied.
“He’s on the floor,” Santos interjected.
After he recovered, Armes made a point to emphasize that he set a personal best of 425 pounds during his squat routine.
“That will now be in the Congressional Record, so that’s good,” the committee investigator responded.
“Yeah,” Armes said. “That’s cool.”

The U.S. nuclear energy sector’s dependence on Russian uranium created during a failed Obama-era reset with Moscow is coming back to bite Americans as the Kremlin moves to block future exports of the vital fuel.
Vladimir Putin’s new restrictions on uranium exports to the U.S., announced last week, come as the country’s war in Ukraine continues to heighten tensions with the United States and the West. His announcement created an immediate impact, as uranium prices soared and worries grew that American utilities might have trouble meeting electric demand next year.
It's the latest fallout from a series of foreign policy decisions crafted by Barack Obama, Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton that inexplicably strengthened Putin's ability to wage economic warfare with energy supplies such as natural gas and uranium.
"Everything the Democrats have done has emboldened Russia and their ability to actually leverage their dirty gas production," Rep. Claudia Tenney, R-N.Y., told the Just the News, No Noise television show on Monday night. Tenney's House district is home to New York's remaining nuclear power reactors.
Enriched uranium is a vital component of nuclear power plants in the United States, which account for a fifth of electricity production across the nation. The United States is also almost entirely dependent on imports to acquire enriched uranium. Last year, the United States imported more than a quarter of its enriched fuel from Russia even as relations have deteriorated during the Ukraine war.
But the current dependence on Russia was a long time in the making, cemented by several deals signed by the Clinton and Obama administrations that hooked the United States on Moscow's uranium supply, according to the 2020 book “Fallout: Nuclear Bribes, Russian Spies, and the Washington Lies that Enriched the Clinton and Biden Dynasties.”
“[The] United States used to produce its own nuclear materials for bombs and then for nuclear energy, and it was the Clinton administration they made this deal with the Russians way back in the 90s to purchase all of this down blended material from, you know, the decommission nuclear warheads from Russia,” Seamus Bruner, co-author of the book, told the John Solomon Reports podcast on Monday. “That got us addicted to Russia's supply,” he said, explaining that it led to a cratering of domestic supply.
Two deals, which took place during Obama’s vaunted "Russian Reset" that began in 2009, cemented the United States’ dependence on Russia nuclear fuel, Bruner said.
“[The] Obama administration certainly wasn't friendly. They made the famous deals with Russia, the [123 Agreement]; everybody remembers the uranium one deal, which was about nuclear energy, not nuclear weapons,” Bruner said.
“And so now we're in this tough spot. Now we do have domestic producers, who are, you know, producing uranium for our energy needs, but there are no way, there's no way they're going to catch up.”
As part of the flurry of diplomacy between the former Cold War rivals, the Obama administration penned the new 123 Agreement with the Kremlin, which was designed to increase cooperation on civil nuclear energy and further commercial opportunities between the two economies. The administration also signed new arms control and technology cooperation agreements as part of the diplomatic push.
The deal led to billions of dollars in contracts for U.S. utilities to buy Russian uranium to power their nuclear reactors.
Around the same time the agreements were taking shape, however, Putin’s state-controlled nuclear company, Rosatom, was making moves to corner the global supply.
The Russian company’s efforts to acquire a Canadian company, Uranium One, became a scandal for the Obama administration because it saw the virtual elimination of U.S. domestic production of uranium and raised corruption concerns about some of its chief officials.
“The the Uranium One deal was about shuttering our domestic mines, we had all of these uranium mines across…the Rocky Mountains…and closer towards the west, Midwest, that shut down the domestic production there, which was a boon to Putin, who had purchased, in addition to the mines in the United States, a bunch of mines in Kazakhstan,” Bruner said.
“And those are where he's able to pull out a ton of uranium and enrich it for civilian purposes, ostensibly, and and then sell it back to us at a premium.”

part 2
Before the Russian takeover, Uranium One was a Canadian company that mined Uranium around the world, with assets in Eurasia, Africa, and North America. Its facilities in Wyoming, Utah, and other states accounted for approximately 20% of U.S. uranium capacity at the time, necessitating a review by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States to approve an acquisition by the Russia state-backed company.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton sat on that committee and had a prominent role in shaping the administration’s foreign policy. The acquisition became a scandal that plagued her 2016 presidential campaign after investigative author Peter Schweizer and his Government Accountability Institute found nine Uranium One shareholders funneled $145 million into the Clinton Foundation before the deal was set to be considered.
The acquisition was subsequently approved, though Clinton’s team has repeatedly denied that the secretary had a major role in approving the sale.
Both Congress and President Biden, who had a front row seat to the reset, at least appeared to recognize the danger caused by the past missteps, but could do little to wean the U.S. off Russia’s supply before now.
Shortly after Russia's invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Congress passed and Biden signed the Prohibiting Russian Uranium Imports Act ostensibly to free the U.S. nuclear industry from dependence on Russia. Yet, the law only requires an end to U.S. imports of nuclear fuel from Russia completely by 2028, providing a waiver system in the intervening years.
“It was a terrible decision to make us dependent on on imports of uranium from Russia,” former Trump National Security Council Chief of Staff Fred Fleitz told the John Solomon Reports podcast.
Fleitz said the waiver system established by the law revealed how underdeveloped the United States’ domestic uranium production is, something Putin eagerly exploited last week.
“But utilities could ask for waivers, with the understanding it will take a long time for us to establish domestic sources of your reactor grade uranium,” Fleitz said. “The Russians knew that, and they're going to cut this off, and our reactors will have no where to go to get uranium.”
"A real bind"
Experts warn that the restrictions come at a time when the U.S. nuclear industry is completely unprepared.
“We don’t have enough enriched uranium here,” Chris Gadomski, the lead nuclear analyst for BloombergNEF told Bloomberg News. “They should have been stockpiling enriched uranium in anticipation of this happening.”
Fleitz gave a starker warning, saying the fuel shortage could lead to brownouts by next summer in states with a higher reliance on nuclear power.
“[It] puts us in a real bind, because there are I just talked to a nuclear expert just before our call to get the specifics on this, and he told me that this decision will lead to brown outs in the summer, because there simply won't be enough nuclear fuel for certain states to run their reactors to generate electricity,” Fleitz said.

Gaetz May Not Be Confirmed, Trump Admits. He’s Pushing Him and Others Anyway. ==1/3
Nov. 18, 2024, 6:45 p.m. ET
(Written by Maggie Haberman so take with a grain if salt)
The president-elect is taking a flood-the-zone approach to his cabinet nominations, betting that the Senate won’t dare to turn them all down.
In his private conversations over the past few days, President-elect Donald J. Trump has admitted that his besieged choice for attorney general, Matt Gaetz, has less than even odds of being confirmed by the Senate.
But Mr. Trump has shown no sign of withdrawing the nomination, which speaks volumes about his mind-set as he staffs his second administration. He is making calls on Mr. Gaetz’s behalf, and he remains confident that even if Mr. Gaetz does not make it, the standard for an acceptable candidate will have shifted so much that the Senate may simply approve his other nominees who have appalled much of Washington.
Mr. Trump’s choice to lead health and human services has made baseless claims about vaccines. His selection for defense secretary is a former Fox News host whose leadership experience has been questioned. His nominee for the director of national intelligence is a favorite of Russian state media.
“Donald Trump is a blunt-force instrument applying blunt-force trauma to the system,” said Stephen K. Bannon, Mr. Trump’s former chief strategist who remains close to himand was recently released from federal prison for defying a subpoena in the congressional investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.
Presidents do not normally approach cabinet selections this way. Historically, they work with their teams to figure out in advance what the system will tolerate, eliminating the possibility that skeletons in the closet of a nominee might emerge during Senate hearings.
Mr. Trump largely followed this risk-averse approach at the start of his first term. He appointed people like the four-star general Jim Mattis, who was confirmed with a 98-to-1 bipartisan vote to be Mr. Trump’s first defense secretary.
But this time, emboldened by victory and the submission of the Republican Party, Mr. Trump is innovating. He is using an approach that has been discussed in the past for judicial nominees, which is nominating so many extreme choices that they cannot all be blocked. The strategy has never been used for cabinet picks.
It is possible that enough Republican senators are willing to risk their careers to oppose Mr. Gaetz, although it is unclearwhat the backup plan would be should Mr. Gaetz falter. Mr. Trump’s personal lawyer and pick for deputy attorney general, Todd Blanche, is seen as a possibility.
It is also possible that Mr. Gaetz is confirmed, along with the three other nominees who have raised such a furor in Washington.Mr. Trump has wasted no time in barreling ahead and putting personal pressure on senators.
One thing is certain: His four choices would have had virtually no chance of confirmation in a Republican-held Senate in the Washington that existed before 2024.

The president-elect’s choice to lead the Defense Department, Pete Hegseth, is facing an allegation that he sexually assaulted a woman, which he has denied.Beyond that, Mr. Hegseth, a veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, has faced questions about having the requisite experience to run a department with an $850 billion annual budget, three million employees and 750 military bases around the world.
Mr. Trump’s choice to run the Department of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., is not only a vaccine skeptic but also a supporter of abortion rightswho has all but declared war on the pharmaceutical and food industries that have long funded the Republican Party.
And his choice for intelligence director, Tulsi Gabbard, has blamed the United States and NATO for provoking Vladimir V. Putin’s invasion of Ukraine. (It true though)
Then there is Mr. Gaetz, who helped orchestrate the ouster of the previous Republican House speaker, Kevin McCarthy. Mr. Gaetz has been under a yearslong investigation by the House Ethics Committee into allegations that he engaged in sexual misconduct and illicit drug use.
Hours after Mr. Trump announced his selection as attorney general, Mr. Gaetz resigned from his seat as a House member from Florida, which effectively ended the investigation. But there is building pressure on the Ethics Committee to release a report on the inquiry.
The question has repeatedly come up in Washington about the vetting done for Mr. Trump’s nominees. The question misses the point. Little more than a cursory Google search would have shown that Mr. Gaetz, Ms. Gabbard and Mr. Kennedy would draw all kinds of protests. Mr. Trump nominated them anyway.
The Trump team, people briefed on its activities say, did engage in vetting for some of his choices, such as Mr. Hegseth. But the sexual assault allegation did not show up because it involved a private settlement agreement with the woman in question, the people briefed on it said.Maggie is the same bitch and liar she's always been)
That left the team dealing with the one thing that Mr. Trump tends not to like: information that he was unaware of, which became an unwanted headline in the media.Still, he has told aides he is firmly behind Mr. Hegseth.
Karoline Leavitt, the incoming White House press secretary, said Mr. Trump had won with “a resounding mandate from the American people to change the status quo in Washington.” She said he had picked “brilliant and highly respected outsiders to serve in his administration, and he will continue to stand behind them as they fight against all those who seek to derail the MAGA agenda.”
For much of the past decade, Mr. Trump has repeatedly swamped the system with provocations. Mr. Bannon memorably stated that their strategy for dealing with the news media was to “flood the zone” with manure.

The strategy has ensured that little focus stays on any single scandal. The caravan moves quickly on to the next, and the next, creating an overall blurring and flattening effect. He has survived them all, including 34 felony convictions and being held liable for sexual abuse.
He has already driven into retirement or primary defeat most of the congressional Republicans who opposed him in his first term. And since defeating Vice President Kamala Harris and becoming the first Republican to claim the popular vote since 2004,Mr. Trump has made clear he will tolerate little dissent from the G.O.P. majorities in the House and the Senate.
He has demanded that the next Senate majority leader, John Thune, allow recess appointmentsthat would let Mr. Trump push through appointees who would otherwise be deemed unfit, making such an agreement a condition for anyone who wanted to be leader.
Liam Donovan, a former National Republican Senatorial Committee aide, saidthat “we’re on a collision course between traditional senatorial prerogatives and the unique power dynamics of the Trump restoration.”(a good thing)
Now, as Mr. Trump prepares to take office for the second time, he is demonstrating how confident he is that the branches of government will bend even further to accommodate him.
He plans to test just how far he can go.

Watch this stunning aurora unfold from 257 miles above Earth
November 18, 2024 4:59 PM
Stunning footage from the International Space Station (ISS) shows a glorious-looking aurora shimmering above our planet.
Captured last month and shared by the ISS on X over the weekend, the footage (below) begins with a faint green tinge on Earth’s horizon as seen from the space station some 257 miles up.
But as the video continues, the green tinge develops into something far more spectacular, all against a gorgeous star-filled backdrop.
“The International Space Station soars above an aurora blanketing the Earth underneath a starry sky before orbiting into a sunrise 257 miles above Quebec, Canada, on October 30, 2024,” NASA said in a message accompanying the 60-second video.
Aurora, which are caused by the interaction of solar wind with the Earth’s magnetic field and atmosphere, are a common sight for astronauts aboard the ISS, especially during periods of heightened solar activity.
NASA astronaut Matthew Dominick, who recently departed the station after a six-month stay in orbit, referred to aurora as “insane,” and shared an incredible video showing one streaming behind Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft when it was docked at the ISS earlier this year.
After witnessing aurora from the orbital outpost, another NASA astronaut, Jasmin Moghbeli, commented, “Every single time I’m amazed at how alive and beautiful our planet is,” while current ISS astronaut Don Pettit described a recent experience as, “stunning. He added: “We were not flying above the aurora, we were flying in the aurora. And it was blood red.”
Just last month, Pettit, who at 69 is NASA’s oldest serving astronaut, expressed the phenomenon in his own unique way, saying: “The sun goes burp and the atmosphere turns red.”

Another corrupt justice system case going down in flames.
Andrew Tate secures MASSIVE WIN as case dismissed over fake evidence scandal
Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan claimed a legal victory after a Romanian court removed key evidence in their high-profile human trafficking case.
Tate’s legal team celebrated the ruling, calling it a “triumph for justice” and a turning point in the case.
In a statement, they said the court recognized “critical irregularities” in the prosecution’s evidence and confirmed violations of the defendants’ legal rights.
A Romanian court ruled to remove part of the evidence against them, giving prosecutors five days to decide whether to move forward with a trial or send the case back for further review.

Green auroras and a SpaceX Dragon glow in new astronaut photos from the ISS
November 19, 2024
There's a fire in the sky, and it's not because of the Dragon in sight.
NASA astronaut Don Pettit captured both an aurora and a docked SpaceX Dragon spacecraft at the International Space Station (ISS) recently.
In the timelapse photo, city lights appear as glowing streaks on Earth, some 250 miles (400 kilometers) below the orbiting complex.
Meanwhile, high activity from the sun sparked green northern lights visible on the horizon. (Auroras happen when charged particles from the sun interact with Earth's upper atmosphere.)
As shown in his other photos, however, Pettit sometimes crops his images so the outline of the ISS window is not visible.
But the four-time spaceflyer added that he's conscientious about such framing.
"When observing Earth, I like the effect of an oval window," Pettit wrote Sunday (Nov. 12) on X, formerly Twitter, of his view from the ISS.
"It adds a certain measure of aesthetics over that of a round window," Pettit noted of photographing through the oval.
"However," he joked, "when you are living in a metal can for six months at a time, I will be happy with any shape of window."

GEORGIA COURT CANCELS HEARING IN TRUMP CASE
written by Dillon Burroughs November 19, 2024
A Georgia appeals court canceled oral arguments on Monday in a case scheduled for next month involving Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis and President Donald Trump.
No explanation was given in the cancellation that was made “until further order” of the court.
Trump and other defendants had requested the oral arguments in the appeal of the case scheduled for Dec. 5. With Trump’s return to office in January, the future of the case is now uncertain.
The appeal sought to remove Willis from the case due to claims that her romantic relationship with special prosecutor Nathan Wade constituted a conflict of interest. Superior Court Judge Scott McAfee ruled in March against the conflict of interest argument.
McAfee stated that the “reasonable questions” surrounding whether Willis and Wade had been truthful about the timing of their relationship “further support the appearance of impropriety and the necessity to take appropriate steps to address it.”
He permitted Willis to stay on the case, but only if Wade stepped down, leading to the special prosecutor’s resignation shortly afterward.
The claims that Willis had gained an unfair advantage due to her relationship with Wade led to a turbulent period for the case, with private details of their personal lives being publicly revealed in court in mid-February.
Since assuming the presidency, Donald Trump’s legal troubles—once a central focus of his campaign and public statements—have largely slowed or appeared to come to a standstill.
The appeal of his January 6 case in Washington, D.C., has been temporarily halted, and the New York judge overseeing his criminal case, which resulted in his conviction, has postponed a decision on whether to dismiss the conviction due to presidential immunity.
The Fulton County District Attorney, who filed charges against Trump in 2023, has previously refrained from commenting to ABC News regarding the future of the case.
Trump has pleaded not guilty and continues to argue that the case is politically motivated.

The computer file is said to contain testimony from the woman who said she had sex with Matt Gaetz, President-elect Donald Trump’s choice to be attorney general, when she was 17.
An unidentified hacker has gained access to a computer file shared in a secure link among lawyers whose clients have given damaging testimony related to Matt Gaetz, the former Florida congressman who is President-elect Donald J. Trump’s choice to be attorney general, a person with knowledge of the activity said.
The file of 24 exhibits is said to include sworn testimony by a woman who said that she had sex with Mr. Gaetz in 2017 when she was 17, as well as corroborating testimony by a second woman who said that she witnessed the encounter.
The information was downloaded by a person using the name Altam Beezley at 1:23 p.m. on Monday, according to the person, who was not authorized to speak publicly. SSC Perigee Commander’s Conference focuses on connection, culture, hybrid workforce
Nov. 18, 2024
Senior-level leaders from across Space Systems Command came together this week to discuss building better connections, Guardian culture, and the future of the hybrid workforce at the “SSC Perigee Commander’s Conference.”
About 120 SSC leaders, many joined by their spouses, attended the event Nov. 13-14, at SSC headquarters located at Los Angeles Air Force Base.
The conference, led by facilitators from the Arbinger Institute and SSC’s Atlas X organization, was designed to foster the SSC leadership community.
“This year’s SSC Perigee Commander’s Conference is unlike any others you’ve attended in the past,” said Lt. Gen. Philip Garrant, SSC commander.
“Instead of typical organization updates, we’re focusing on connecting the command and actively working on implementation of our Command Plan.
We’re focusing on culture and, specifically, developing a command-wide hybrid workforce policy informed by leaders across the command.
Col. Michelle Idle, SSC deputy commander, said the goal of the conference was to “get all members of leadership on the same page, with a common understanding of where we want to go as an organization, and how they’re being empowered to lead.”
“Culture is very amorphous,” Idle said. “I can’t bring everybody in and say, ‘This is culture – execute.’ Commander’s conferences typically talk about specific strategies of how to execute a mission.
What we’ve done instead, is to share our vision for how we’re going to build SSC’s workforce and instill the pride and ownership of that mission.”
Measuring whether and how the culture has improved will be tricky, Idle said, but a strong culture will help drive outcomes.
“It’s about creating a shared consciousness across our leaders,” said Chief Master Sgt. Jacqueline Sauvé, SSC senior enlisted leader.
“When we establish and create that, it enables our leaders to demonstrate that consciousness and permeate it across their formations, so we’re all saying the same thing and showing up for our teams as one, shared voice.”
The conference also gives leaders a voice, Sauvé said, and to bring their individual perspectives to the field command level.
She noted the conference’s approach was similar to how SSC’s Command Plan was drafted, with considerable input and feedback from all levels.
Jason “JW” Womack, Leader Development for Operational Readiness strategist, led the introductory session Nov. 13 on “Building Connection.”
People crave connection, but fear connecting because there’s risk involved. He challenged the leaders to think about and practice making authentic connections with others and to determine where there is a lack of connection in their units.
“What are your Guardians and Airmen not connected to?” Womack asked.
Womack said his research had identified seven weak connections to be strengthened: 1. Connection to self – people who may not like or trust themselves or see themselves in the mission;
2. Connection to the mission; 3. Connection to one another; 4. Connection to the current context; 5. Connection to the unit/service heritage; 6. Connection to stakeholders and partners; and 7. Connection to the future.
“It’s November and soon December,” Womack said. “Traditionally, these can be tough times for many of our members. What can you do, and how can you hold one another accountable to creating those connections?”
Tommy McInnis, SSC Integrated Resilience and Prevention chief, and Christine Hayes, Sexual Assault Response coordinator, next gave an overview of personnel resources and led participants in discussions of how they, as leaders, would handle fictional scenarios involving suicide and sexual assault and who the leaders could contact if they needed more advice.

“We have evidence that sexual assault is very underreported,” McInnis said. “Don’t be alarmed if your numbers go up. Look at it as your Airmen, Guardians receiving care. That’s the goal.”
Mike Merchant, senior consultant with Arbinger, started the discussion on “Building a Guardian Culture” by outlining how mindset can drive behaviors which in turn drive results.
He also outlined the difference between an inward mindset – focused on the self, “What’s in it for me?” – and an outward mindset – with a focus on mission and treating other people as though they matter.
SSC Atlas X organization provided five sentence prompts on culture covering teamwork, high standards, accountability, innovation, and clarity and openness to generate discussions, then the participants broke into small groups for discussion.
Among the points raised by participants: SSC culture is bigger than just Los Angeles; the need to consider that SSC includes both acquisition and operations personnel; ownership of outcomes, including failures; how to incorporate stretch goals and encourage people to be ambitious; and how to ensure Guardian culture is translated to the lowest levels.
Day two of the conference focused on discussing how SSC can maximize the opportunities stemming from establishing and improving a Hybrid Workforce (Action 2.2 in SSC’s Command Plan) while also building a Guardian Culture (Action 2.4) and Deepening Connection with our Workforce (Line of Effort 3).
While the federal Office of Personnel Management has specific guidance on telework and remote work, “hybrid work” or “hybrid workforce” is not specifically defined.
Participants discussed what the transition might look like, moving from a pandemic-necessitated maximum telework posture to new hybrid work arrangements that balance remote work, telework and in-person work to best advance organizational health and performance.
Participants broke into small groups to discuss what the “guardrails” and minimum expectations would be in establishing and improving a hybrid workforce, including what the minimum attendance/participation standards could be, what tools and training supervisors would need, how the command could provide a quality hybrid “user experience,” and what resources are needed.
The conference concluded with a presentation on building resilience by Mark Brennan, holistic health integrator and members of the Patrick/Cape Guardian Resilience Team, focusing on the USSF Holistic Health approach.
Participants went through a series of exercises and small group sessions designed to evaluate their values and goals, and how they measured up across the eight interrelated domains that make up the Total Force Fitness framework: physical, financial, spiritual, preventive care, environmental, nutritional, and psychological.
Spouses who participated in the conference took part in several of the opening day discussions, followed by tours of Millennium Space Systems, SpaceX and SSC’s Space Den on the conference’s second day.
Providing spouses with an inside look at some of the work their significant others are performing, helps create greater connectivity – and that’s what the conference was all about.

USecAF underscores Vandenberg SFB’s role in national security
Nov. 18, 2024
Under Secretary of the Air Force Melissa Dalton visited Vandenberg Space Force Base, Nov. 14, to meet with Guardians and Airmen and gain a better understanding of the base’s diverse missions.
This marked Dalton’s first immersion at a Space Force base in her current role, providing an important opportunity to highlight the operations and capabilities of the Space Force’s West Coast Spaceport and Test Range.
Vandenberg SFB is home to Space Launch Delta 30 and more than 20 mission partners to include Space Force and Air Force training squadrons and America’s only dedicated Intercontinental Ballistic Missile test squadron.
Dalton toured Space Delta 1s 533rd Training Squadron, which facilitates various space training and readiness courses for Guardians.
“The training provided here directly contributes to the Space Force’s ability to secure our nation’s interests in, from and to space,” Dalton said.
“The 533rd ensures our Guardians are prepared to operate in an increasingly congested and contested domain.”
Additionally, Dalton visited the 532nd Training Squadron, which conducts specialized training for the nation's ICBM operations.
She also engaged with personnel from the 377th Test and Evaluation Group to learn more about Minuteman III ICBM tests and how the unit measures the current and future capabilities of the ICBM force.
“The Minuteman III is an essential element of our nation’s nuclear triad,” Dalton said. “I could not be more impressed with the airmen who ensure the Minuteman III remains safe, secure, effective and credible every day.”
As the Department of the Air Force continues to posture itself to prevail in an era of great power competition, Vandenberg’s role in training, ICBM testing, and assured access to space will remain critical.
Reflecting on her visit, Dalton noted how Guardians and Airmen at Vandenberg SFB safeguard national security and advance the United States' interests.
"The dedication and expertise of Guardians and Airmen at Team V are vital to maintaining our strategic advantage and ensuring our readiness for any future challenge," she said.

Report: Top Intel Watchdogs Resign Before Trump Takes Office
19 Nov 2024 Wendell Husebo
Inspectors general for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) are heading for the exit before the new Trump administration takes power, the Project on Government Oversight (POGO) reported Monday.
The departure of the agency watchdogs represents some of the first officials to remove themselves from the administrative statebefore President-elect Donald Trump takes office. Trump has vowed rid the federal bureaucracy of rogue and corrupt actors.
To carry out those reforms,Trump nominated John Ratcliffe, the former director of national intelligence from 2020 to 2021, to lead theCIA. He also nominatedTulsi Gabbard, a former Democrat congresswoman from Hawaii, to beDirector of National Intelligence.
POGO reported on the departures ofODNI Inspector General Thomas Monheim and his counterpart at the CIA, Robin Ashton:
One of the departing inspectors general, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence’sThomas Monheim, first took his watchdog role after Trump fired his predecessor Michael Atkinson in the spring of 2020. Atkinson had transmitted a whistleblower complaint to Congress that sparked Trump’s first impeachment in 2019.
Monheim and his counterpart at the CIA, Robin Ashton, were both nominated by Biden and confirmed by the Senate in 2021(Monheim began serving as acting inspector general the year before, during the first Trump administration).
Appointed by the president andhoused within executive agencies, inspectors general investigate waste, fraud, and abuse of powerand are responsible for reporting wrongdoing both to agency directors and to Congress. Oversight by inspectors general has long been considered to be more important when both the executive branch and Congress are under control of the same political party.
The ==term “administrative state” specifically describes the phenomenon of unaccountable and unelected administrative agencies, including the national
security apparatus, exercising power to create and enforce their own rules==.
The administrative state uses its rule-making ability to essentially usurp the separation of powers between the three branches of government by creating a so-called fourth branch of government not formed by the Constitution.
Many unelected bureaucrats within the administrative statealso use their position to inflict their own agenda on citizens. For instance, beforethe “laptop from hell” story broke in 2020, 51 intel officials signed a letterthat insinuated Hunter’s laptop was Russian disinformation. Politico peddled the letter under the title “Hunter Biden story is Russian disinfo, dozens of former intel officials say.” The 51 signatories, however, seemingly knew the Politico story was false at the time because the FBI had the laptop that Hunter abandoned at a Delaware computer repair shop. President Joe Biden cited the story during a 2020 presidential debate with Trump to discredit the laptop’s contents. The story was reportedly planted by Secretary of State Antony Blinken for Biden to use during the event.
