Former CDC director claims that COVID-19 emanated from UNC-Chapel Hill

The former director of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has made a direct accusation that COVID-19 was “probably” first engineered in a lab at UNC-Chapel Hill by one of its researchers and not a lab in Wuhan, China.

Redfield said the virus was ‘intentionally engineered as a part of a biodefense program’ and that the United States’ role in it was substantial.

“When you look at the accountability for China, their accountability is not in the lab work and the creation of the virus,” he told the podcaster. “Their accountability is not following the international health regulations after they realized that they had a problem and allowing people like me, at the CDC to come in and to help them within 48 hours like they were obligated to based on the treaty. (The US) funded the research, both from NIH (National Institutes of Health) the State Department USAID and the Defense Department. All four of those agencies helped fund this research.”

Pursuant to Committee Rule 7, the Committee on Ethics (Committee) determined to release the following statement:

On April 9, 2021, the Committee announced it had initiated a review into allegations that Representative Matt Gaetz may have engaged in sexual misconduct and/or illicit drug use, shared inappropriate images or videos on the House floor, misused state identification records, converted campaign funds to personal use, and/or accepted a bribe, improper gratuity, or impermissible gift, in violation of House Rules, laws, or other standards of conduct. The Committee deferred its consideration of the matter in response to a request from the Department of Justice (DOJ). In May 2023, the Committee reauthorized its investigation after DOJ withdrew its deferral request.

There has been a significant and unusual amount of public reporting on the Committee’s activities this Congress. Much of that reporting has been inaccurate. The Committee’s investigations are conducted confidentially, but the Committee’s confidentiality rules do not prohibit witnesses from disclosing information about the Committee’s requests or conversations with Committee investigators. The Committee is confident in the integrity of its process.

Representative Gaetz has categorically denied all of the allegations before the Committee. Notwithstanding the difficulty in obtaining relevant information from Representative Gaetz and others, the Committee has spoken with more than a dozen witnesses, issued 25 subpoenas, and reviewed thousands of pages of documents in this matter. Based on its review to date, the Committee has determined that certain of the allegations merit continued review. During the course of its investigation, the Committee has also identified additional allegations that merit review.

IT’S OVER: Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro Calls on Democrats to Stop Trying to Steal the Senate Race

Pennsylvania’s Democratic Governor Josh Shapiro has urged Democrats to stop trying to steal the Senate race from Republicans.

Democratic Senator Bob Casey, who has held the seat for 18 years and feels entitled to retaining it, is refusing to concede the race to Republican Dave McCormick despite the race being called by multiple networks and election experts.

As Casey and his Democratic supporters have tried to steal the race by forcing the counting of illegal ballots, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled on Monday that the state’s 67 counties must comply with their earlier ruling and stop counting undated or misdated ballots.

Shapiro, who had so far remained silent on Casey's efforts to steal the election, released a statement urging Casey and his team to accept the ruling:

As I have made clear for years, every eligible Pennsylvanian’s vote should be counted in every race – and thanks to the hard work of Republican and Democratic election officials all across the Commonwealth, Pennsylvania has held another free, fair, safe, and secure election.

As counties continued counting ballots from the 2024 general election and a mandatory statewide recount begins in the U.S. Senate race, they were confronted with a lack of legal clarity surrounding undated mail-in ballots that caused significant confusion and put counties in a challenging legal position.

Both my predecessor and I have repeatedly called on lawmakers to deliver greater clarity on mail-in voting – and due to certain legislative actors refusing to act on critical election reforms, this issue had been left to the courts.

Given this lack of clarity, county officials in each of our 67 counties were damned if they did and damned if they didn’t – likely facing legal action no matter which decision they made on counting.

The Department of State had advised counties repeatedly of their duty to segregate challenged provisional ballots and undated ballots in anticipation of a ruling by the court. The court has now ruled on the counting of these ballots specific to the November 5, 2024 election and I expect all county election officials to adhere to this ruling and all the applicable laws governing our elections.

As we move forward, I want to be clear: any insinuation that our laws can be ignored or do not matter is irresponsible and does damage to faith in our electoral process. The rule of law matters in this Commonwealth, and as I have always said, it is critical for counties and officials in both parties to respect it with both their rhetoric and their actions.

As Governor, I will continue working to protect our democracy and the votes of all eligible Pennsylvanians – and we will continue to have free, fair, safe, secure elections in our Commonwealth.”

Such comments underline how Shapiro, who was surprisingly passed over as Kamala Harris's running mate, is seeking to build his reputation ahead of a likely 2028 presidential run.

His response also appears to narrow the path for Casey to win the seat, indicating he no longer has the backing of key Democratic allies in his efforts steal the election from its rightful winner Dave McCormick.

Should Casey still somehow prevail, which is not beyond the realm of possibility, Senator Mike Lee of Utah has come up with a proposal to block him.

According to Lee, who is a respected jurist and constitutional expert, the Senate could simply refuse Casey if he attempts to claim victory.

“If Bob Casey doesn’t concede, Pennsylvania keeps counting illegal votes, [and] Casey relies on those votes to claim victory, the Senate could refuse to seat him,” he wrote on the X platform.

Lee went on to cite a constitutional clause that states: “Each House shall be the Judge of the Elections, Returns and Qualifications of its own Members.”

Two things have become painfully clear on Capitol Hill this week: Lawmakers and staffers say sexual harassment is “rampant” – but even members of Congress have no idea just how widespread the problem is.

The controversial and sensitive issue has taken center stage in Congress this week, with female lawmakers making fresh allegations of sexual harassment against unnamed members who are currently in office, and the unveiling of a new bill on Wednesday to change how sexual harassment complaints are reported and resolved. On Thursday, a woman shared her story of being groped and kissed without her consent by Sen. Al Franken in 2006.

So far, there’s been little specific data to help illuminate just how pervasive sexual harassment is on Capitol Hill, but one figure has emerged: the total that the Office of Compliance, the office that handles harassment complaints, has paid to victims.

On Thursday, the Office of Compliance released additional information indicating that it has paid victims more than $17 million since its creation in the 1990s. That includes all settlements, not just related to sexual harassment, but also discrimination and other cases.

An OOC spokeswoman said the office was releasing the extra data “due to the interest in the awards and settlement figures.” The OOC has come under fire in recent days for what lawmakers and Hill aides alike say are its antiquated policies that do not adequately protect victims who file complaints.

CNN has also learned that during the current Congress, no settlement payment approval requests have been made to the congressional committee charged with approving them.

Anti-Israel protesters chanting "Free Palestine" were arrested during a demonstration inside a U.S. Senate office building in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday.

The large group of protesters was captured on video inside the Philip A. Hart Senate Office Building as they shouted their demand for an end to the war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas.

Many of the protesters were seen wearing red T-shirts emblazoned with the words "STOP ARMING ISRAEL."

Demonstrators were seen on multiple floors of the building, with some throwing sticky notes bearing that same phrase from theupper floor balconiesinto the atrium. Some were hanging banners that said, "time to act" and "fund Life not genocide."

Three protesters in red T-shirts were seen exiting an elevator with police. The protesters, whose hands were zip tied behind their backs, continued to chant as they were arrested.

It was unclear how many arrests police made related to the protest.

Hamas ignited the war in Gaza when its fighters stormed into Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing some 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and abducting around 250. Around 100 hostages are still inside Gaza, and at least a third of them are believed to be dead.

The Biden administration has spent months trying to broker cease-fires on both fronts, though talks for a deal in the Gaza war have stalled. On Monday, President Biden called on G-20 leaders to increase "pressure on Hamas," who rejected the latest deal offer.

If I had shown up to the vote in question, the nominee would have succeeded 49-46 rather than 49-45. If every Republican had showed up, Fetterman would have come in and the Democrats still would have gotten their nominee across.

When this 11th Circuit vote happened, I was meeting with President Trump to interview multiple positions for our government, including for FBI Director.

I tend to think it's more important to get an FBI director who will dismantle the deep state than it is for Republicans to lose a vote 49-46 rather than 49-45.

But that's just me.

“Democrat Commissioners Diane Marseglia and Bob Harvie voted today to count illegal ballots, against Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling, in an attempt to aid former Senator Bob Casey,” Bucks County GOP said last Thursday.

Diane Marseglia openly bragged about violating the law and defying the Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruling.

“We all know that precedent by a court doesn’t matter anymore in this country. And people violate laws anytime they want. So, for me, if I violate this law, it’s because I want a court to pay attention to it,” Democrat Diane Marseglia said.

Now she’s claiming her comments were misinterpreted and taken out of context even though she is on video defying the Pennsylvania state Supreme Court.

“I apologize for all the upset and confusion it caused,” Diane Marseglia said to the Philly Inquirer.

Bucks County Board of Commissioners Chair Diane Ellis-Marseglia said Monday that her comments about violating the Pennsylvania Supreme Court were taken out of context after they set off a national backlash against the county’s election board.

Ellis-Marseglia, a Democrat, blamed a “misinterpretation of [an] inartfully worded statement on my part” after her comment drew rebukes from President-elect Donald Trump’s campaign and the state’s Democratic governor, among a host of others, after Bucks County was one of several that defied a guidance from the state’s high court and voted to accept undated mail ballots.

A day after the C-Lion1 and BCS subsea data cables in the Baltic Sea, connecting Finland and Germany as well as Sweden and Lithuania, were damaged, specifics of the incident remain unconfirmed.

The incident is reminiscent of a similar event in 2023 when the Balticonnector between Finland and Estonia was damaged. Hong Kong-registered container vessel NewNew Polar Bear was later found to have dragged its anchor across the pipeline.

Danish authorities appear to have narrowed down a possible culprit to Chinese bulker Yi Peng 3.

Based on the latest AIS data, Yi Peng 3 has left the Kattegat shipping lane and appears to be escorted by a Danish Navy vessel.

By the time Yi Peng 3 reached Danish waters the country’s Navy had dispatched several vessels shadowing the vessel. Online reports suggest that a Danish pilot was placed onboard the vessel during the afternoon of November 19 as it continued passing through Danish Straits.

AIS data show several Danish patrol vessels in the vicinity of Yi Peng 3 and shorebased webcams confirm Navy vessels loosely following in its wake.

The foreign ministers of Germany and Finland issued a joint statement expressing concern about the incident. “The fact that such an incident immediately raises suspicions of intentional damage speaks volumes about the volatility of our times,” the statement reads.

“A thorough investigation is underway. Our European security is not only under threat from Russia‘s war of aggression against Ukraine, but also from hybrid warfare by malicious actors. Safeguarding our shared critical infrastructure is vital to our security and the resilience of our societies,” the statement continued.

Incidents with damage to subsea cables and pipelines across Europe have increased in recent years, including in the Arctic. In 2022 Norway reported that an undersea fiber optic cable connecting a satellite ground station on Svalbard to the Norwegian mainland was severed. Norwegian media reported a Russian vessel traveling back and forth several times over the damaged section.

The Finnish investigation of the NewNew Polar Bear incident concluded that the vessel dropped its anchor during a storm dragging it over the Balticonnector pipeline. The vessel had been spotted with a missing anchor during its first port call following the incident.

After initial stonewalling by Chinese authorities Finnish counterparts launched their own investigation and eventually admitted that the pipeline’s damage was caused by NewNew Polar Bear. Like Yi Peng 3, NewNew Polar Bear had departed from a Russian port prior to the incident.

Zelensky rules out election again

Ukraine’s constitution and laws do not allow for elections during wartime, the country’s leader has reiterated

Vladimir Zelensky has stated that Ukraine must first achieve a just peace before citizens can go to the polls. The Ukrainian leader’s presidential term expired in March 2024, but he cancelled elections due to martial law, which he’d imposed in 2022.

Zelensky addressed the issue while presenting his Internal Resilience Plan in the country’s parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, on Tuesday.

“We all know that the Constitution of Ukraine and the law do not permit elections during wartime, and no one in the world has demanded and does demand this from Ukraine. However, there are some people in Ukraine who may be so ‘hungry’ for [elections] that they want to fight within our state more than for our state. They seek political disputes in the trenches, like in film studios. This is detrimental to Ukraine,” he stated.

“First, Ukraine needs a just peace, and then Ukrainians will hold fair elections. We must prioritize the common interest over any personal desires,” Zelensky added.

The Ukrainian leader emphasized the importance of a comprehensive strategy to ensure the country’s internal stability. This includes strengthening the front lines, bolstering the defense industry, securing the economy and financial system, enhancing the information space, ensuring justice, improving regional governance, and other critical issues.

Zelensky’s chief of staff, Andrey Yermak, who has been described in Western media as “the real power broker” in Kiev, stated that presidential elections would be held immediately after the war ends. According to Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk, the next presidential elections would take place within 60 days after martial law is lifted.

Last week, Zelensky extended the period of martial law and mobilization in Ukraine until February 2025, amending the relevant legislation for the 13th time since the escalation of the conflict with Russia in February 2022.

Throughout the conflict, his government has outlawed a number of opposition parties, citing their presumed involvement in subversive activities. Several MPs have been prosecuted and jailed.

Zelensky has also been accused of consolidating power by purging government officials and military leaders he deemed as disloyal. Those included the former commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s armed forces, Valery Zaluzhny, and Defense Minister Aleksey Reznikov.

In September, seven cabinet ministers and several other officials were removed from their positions. Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba and Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Olga Stefanishina were among those let go.

An Afghan asylum-seeker in Switzerland entered the Shrine of Our Lady of Einsiedeln southeast of Zurich and vandalized the famous statue of the Black Madonna.

The Afghan man climbed the alter, ripped off the clothing on the Black Madonna, took off her crown, and placed it on his head.

He wore the crown and clothing until police arrived to arrest him.

The shrine of the Black Madonna was established in the 9th Century.

After a fire in 1465 this gothic standing mother and child replaced a 9th-10th century Romanesque Seat of Wisdom Madonna lost in the flames. Baby Jesus holds a bird in his left hand. According to the local monks this eludes to an apocryphal story in which Jesus as a young child resurrected a dead bird.

In Jungian psychology the Dark Mother is an archetype that is meant to help us, in a healthy way, to integrate into our psyche all that we fear. The famous Black Madonna of Einsiedeln, whose shrine is close to where C.G. Jung taught, seems to confirm that.

Around the year 825 a German monk called Meinrad (about 799-861) became the abbot of a monastery near Zürich. But soon the holy man was drawn to live the life of a hermit. So he moved into the ‘finster Wald’, i.e. the deep, ominously dark, forest, the quintessential scary place of German language tales. The only thing he took with him on this journey into everything scary was a dark statue of Mother Mary. – To this day the Madonna of Einsiedeln is referred to as Our Lady of the (Ominously) Dark Forest, as if to remind us that when we set out to face our deepest fears, it is good to be accompanied by a dark mother.

After Meinrad had spent thirty three years in the wilderness, two robbers came upon his hermitage. The saint knew their evil intentions, yet he welcomed them with open arms, gave them food and clothes. He only had one request: “When you have killed me, please light one candle at my feet and one at my head.” They proceeded to club him to death, but as soon as they had placed the candles according to Meinrad’s wish they lit up by themselves. Then the two murderers realized that they had just killed a great saint and fled in horror. Now Meinrad had two pet black crows as his companions, who had witnessed the deed and were known to the people in the area. They flew around the evildoers, making a racket, until the men were apprehended and “brought to justice”, i.e. hanged.

Maybe because of this violent end, nobody wanted to have anything to do with Meinrad’s hermitage for at least 40 years. It was maintained only by the will of God until other monks were finally drawn there. By 934 enough hermits lived around Meinrad’s old cell with the Black Madonna that it was decided to build a full fledged monastery.

In 948 St. Konrad, bishop of Konstanz, arrived in Einsiedeln to consecrate the chapel that housed the old hermit’s cell. The night before this solemn celebration was to take place, he had a vision of Jesus and the angels adoring the Queen of Heaven and consecrating the chapel. When the time came for the usual Sanctus prayer that contains the words: “Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might … blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord …” they sang instead: “Holy, holy, holy God before the face of the glorious Virgin … blessed is the son of Mary who comes in the name of the Lord…” The next day Konrad was still going to perform the usual consecration, but a voice stopped him, calling, “Cease, cease, brother, the chapel has been divinely consecrated.”

To this day the Sanctus is sung in Einsiedeln the way Heaven taught it. Making such a change at the heart of the mass, required bringing the matter before the Pope. In 964 a Papal bull confirmed Konrad’s vision as true and allowed the changes for Einsiedeln. The story of its “angelic consecration” and the many miracles that followed it, earned Einsiedeln international fame.

Hoover Institution Senior Fellow Victor Davis Hanson stated on his podcast Tuesday that he believes former Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz could be President-elect Donald Trump’s “sacrificial lamb” pick following his nomination as attorney general.

In a social media post on Nov. 13, Trump announced Gaetz as one of his Cabinet picks, stating that the lawmaker would help bring an end to “Weaponized Government.” On “The Victor Davis Hanson Show,” the senior fellow highlighted how he believed Trump’s picks share a common thread of pushing back against the traditional government, noting that while some Trump supporters may agree with the choice, others have started to question Gaetz’s background.

“Then the other people say, ‘Well, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. We have to be effective here. Matt Gaetz is not a prosecutor. This is the top prosecutorial job in the country. He’s never been a federal prosecutor. He’s never really been a lawyer to any great degree. His family was in politics. He went right into politics. I don’t think that he has the temperament to represent and protect the MAGA view of what needs to be done in the DOJ. He doesn’t have the skills or the experience or the age.’ So those are the two views,” Hanson said. “I’m not going to adjudicate them, but this is what I think is going to happen. I don’t know if it’s deliberate, Jack, or it’s inadvertent.”

“Matt Gaetz resigned his House seat. Matt Gaetz was the architect of the dethronement of Kevin McCarthy. Did you hear what Kevin McCarthy said?” Hanson asked. “They asked him, ‘What do you think about Gaetz?’ He started laughing. He’s very close to Trump. He started laughing. He said, ‘He’ll never be confirmed. It’s a joke.’ He must know something. I don’t know if he’ll get out of it.”

Following Gaetz’s nomination, Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson revealed that the lawmaker had submitted his resignation to Congress “effective immediately.” Hanson went on to state that he believes there are people within the Republican Party who opposed Gaetz’s closeness to Trump, and they allegedly supported the Florida lawmaker’s appointment in order to push for his resignation from Congress.

They will also endeavor to ‘improve the country’s biodiversity’.

“According to Danish daily The Copenhagen Post, 250,000 hectares of new forest will be planted, and 140,000 hectares of peatlands [wetlands] that are currently being cultivated will be restored to natural habitat.”

More than half of Denmark’s territory is currently cultivated, according to a parliamentary report.

“’Danish nature will change in a way we have not seen since the wetlands were drained in 1864’, Mr Bruus said, as quoted by AFP news agency.”

Danish minister for climate, energy and utilities, Lars Aagaard:

“’It also shows the Danish model – broad political majority in the Danish parliament [and] involvement of the sectors that will be affected by the tax and involvement of environmental stakeholders’, he added, explaining these are ‘things that we could all benefit from if the rest of the world could foster such cooperation in the climate fight’.”

Earlier Tuesday, Russia threatened the US with ‘nuclear war by Christmas’ after Ukraine carried out its first strike inside Russian territory with US-made long-range missiles.

The first Ukrainian strike targeted the border region of Bryansk in Russia, and it comes just as President Vladimir Putin updated the nuclear doctrine greatly expanding the conditions for using atomic weapons.

Kamala Harris’s taxpayer-funded vacation to Hawaii also comes after she blew through $1 billion on her failed presidential campaign.

Harris’s campaign is reportedly $20 million in debt after overspending on celebrity endorsements and private flights for staffers.

Fox News reported on the Harris camp’s debt and outrageous spending:

Vice President Harris’ debt-ridden presidential campaign spent $2.6 million on private flights in the last few weeks of the election season, documents show.

The release of the findings comes as the debt-saddled campaign, which spent $1 billion on the trail, is being scrutinized for the financial decisions it made before losing the Nov. 5 election to President-elect Trump. The campaign is believed to be $20 million in debt.

The eyebrow-raising expenses were listed in a Federal Election Commission (FEC) filing obtained by Fox News Digital. According to the FEC filing, in the month of October alone, the Harris campaign spent $2,626,110 on private flights.

The costs ranged from $3,500 to $940,000 per disbursement, with $2.2 million going to a company named Private Jet Services Group, while $430,000 went to Advanced Aviation Team, a charter flight broker.

Republika Srpska’s quest for greater autonomy and subjectivity is perceived by the West as a destabilizing factor in the Balkans. At the same time, the unwillingness of Washington and Brussels to respect the rights of Serbs is at the root of Banja Luka’s actions.

The quasi-federal state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, created by the Dayton Agreement of 1995, has been called a failed or zombie state in Western political science. Over the past nearly thirty years, the two parts of the country – the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republika Srpska – have failed to fully integrate. Interethnic tensions between Serbs, Muslims and Croats have not disappeared. From time to time, society raises the issue of a new war, which is feared but not dismissed as a real prospect. The reason for this situation is the systematic violation of the Dayton Accords and the pressure exerted on the Republika Srpska by Western envoys. This ethnic group, which, according to Brussels, is showing “excessive” independence, is trying to be restrained.

Republika Srpska President Milorad Dodik is known for his pro-Russian orientation and has not given up on his plans for close cooperation with Serbia. Recently, his proposal to send young men from Republika Srpska to serve in the Serbian army caused a stir. The neighboring country introduced compulsory military service in 2025, which was abolished by the liberal leadership in 2011 (obviously not without the influence of the European Union). In Sarajevo, the RS leader’s proposal was considered a “blow to state institutions” and a violation of the Law on Defense, which is punishable by up to eight years in prison.

Of course, Banja Luka’s initiative is unlikely to find a practical realization, because thanks to Western policies, many important institutions, including the army, have been dismantled in the post-Dayton period. Since 2006, the armed forces of the Republika Srpska have been abolished, and Serbs serve in the common armed forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Arms depots and military facilities came under the control of the “peacekeepers” and were partially sold. Weapons from the stockpiles of the Republika Srpska army have been found in various parts of the world, from Georgia to the Syrian Arab Republic by the anti-Assad opposition. Milorad Dodik’s September 2021 proposal to rebuild its own army, judiciary and prosecutor’s office has failed.
