NASA breathes sigh of relief as stadium-sized asteroid skims Earth

NASA issued a warning earlier this week that a massive stadium-sized asteroid, named 2024 ON, was hurtling towards Earth.

This colossal space rock was approximately 950 feet in diameter.

It passed by Earth on Tuesday, September 17, coming within 1 million kilometers of our planet.

Considering the space rock was 99% larger than most asteroids that pass near Earth that’s a close shave- and it’s coming back.

Despite its intimidating size and speed, the asteroid remained at a safe distance of 621,000 miles – about 2.6 times farther than the Moon.

Prior to the incident, NASA had assured the general public that there was no threat of collision – all thanks to their advanced tracking methods.

Asteroid Watch Dashboard is one of the key tools that the space agency uses to keep a check on Near-Earth Objects (NEOs), and this giant rock was no different.

2024 ON was first detected by NASA’s Near-Earth Object Observations Program, which uses powerful telescopes around the world.

And since the discovery of 2024 ON approaching Earth, NASA had been tirelessly tracking it, ensuring it wasn’t a major threat.

Interestingly, 2024 ON previously passed Earth in 2013 and is expected to make another appearance in 2035.

As for the observation of its size, shape, and composition, The Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in California assisted NASA in the mission.

On top of that, they also worked closely with international partners like the European Space Agency (ESA) to gather more data about the asteroid and the materials that make it up.

This research is not only crucial in understanding potential future threats from 2024 ON, but also deepens our understanding of space and the solar system.

Unfortunately for space enthusiasts hoping to catch a glimpse of the colossal rock, it wasn’t visible to the naked eye and required a telescope.

However, those interested were able to catch the live coverage from the Virtual Telescope Project as the asteroid zipped by.

With NASA’s ongoing monitoring, they were able to assured human life on Earth there was no immediate reason for concern. Phew.

In a cosmic coincidence, the approach of this colossal space rock coincided with another rare event – a partial lunar eclipse.

NASA’s efforts to understand space are unparalleled and not just limited to asteroid tracking.

Not long ago, they took a giant leap forward by proposing a new timekeeping system for the Moon.

They are even working on creating a lunar racer car to assist in the transportation of the astronauts to the currently unexplored places.

Evolving artificial intelligence capabilities in space

Executives discussing emerging space-based computing capabilities Sept. 20 called for stronger collaboration between policymakers and technology leaders to accelerate artificial intelligence’s societal benefits.

Rika Nakazawa, chief of commercial innovation at Japanese telecoms giant NTT, proposed tech providers use private forums to educate policymakers and industry players about AI advancements.

This approach, she said during World Satellite Business Week in Paris, would avoid stirring up the misconceptions that often arise in public discussions about AI.

Industry players engaged in these talks could provide real-time insights on key issues and platforms, according to Nakazawa, helping emerging AI gain better access to funding.

“So thinking about this as a system design is critical,” she added, “and having forums where industry, policy and technology are all sitting at the table is also really key for us.”

She also highlighted the transformative role AI could play in addressing global challenges such as climate change, which demands real-time processing of data that can only be gained from the vantage of space.

Clint Crosier, director of aerospace and satellite at Amazon Web Services, told the conference how the cloud computing behemoth partnered with French geospatial analytics company Alteia in November to assess global infrastructure from space for the World Bank.

Using AI-based prediction capabilities, he said the companies were able to provide the World Bank with a set of areas that need to be targeted for infrastructure improvements, particularly in underdeveloped nations, to help grow their economies.

“The examples are just numerous about how you can use this technology in ways that we didn’t even really think of two or three years ago,” Crosier said, “and we’ll see we’ll be using it ways two or three years from now that we didn’t envision today.”

AWS set up a space-focused team last year to explore ways to use generative AI, a major evolution using deep-learning models to answer questions and create content based on patterns detected in massive datasets.

“We are at the cusp of understanding the power of generative AI,” according to Crosier.

Crosier said the increasing demand for advanced AI and machine learning (ML) tools across sectors such as environmental management, agriculture, healthcare, insurance and energy is driving a need for more computing power in orbit.

“We’re going to be bringing down so much data,” he said, “it will be physically impossible for us as humans to organize the data,” analyze, disseminate and “make real-time insights of the data without the use of AI ML.”

While the space industry once prioritized increasing image resolution from orbit, he said the focus has shifted to minimizing latency and enhancing real-time data processing capabilities.

In a recent experiment using AWS cloud services and computing technology from Sweden’s Unibap, he said a satellite from D-Orbit of Italy almost doubled available bandwidth by using AI to only send relevant hyperspectral data from orbit back to Earth.

Diddy is no longer threatening to hold his vote hostage this upcoming election. The hip-hop mogul has officially endorsed Joe Biden for president, but it’s because he believes there is no other option. It’s why Diddy hopes to change the political landscape moving forward.

In an interview with Charlamagne Tha God for Revolt TV, Diddy warned Americans we are on the verge of a civil war.

“If Trump gets elected, I really do believe in my heart there will be a race war,” Diddy exclaimed. “This man is really trying to turn us against each other and put us in a situation. America messed up.”

Diddy noted that President Trump has “done a great job of rattling America.”

“White men like Trump need to be banished. That way of thinking is real dangerous. This man literally threatened the lives of us and our families about going to vote,” Diddy said. The entertainer then referenced President Trump’s message to the Proud Boys to “stand back and stand by” while not denouncing white supremacy at the first presidential debate.

“We’re in a war,” Diddy added. “We’re in a war of love versus hate. The number one priority is to get Trump out of office. … If people in America want a race war, they’ll not vote.”

The rapper previously said that he would be holding the “Black vote hostage” until Biden adopted a Black Agenda to address issues plaguing the Black community. Although he’s disappointed the former Vice President hasn’t done more, Diddy said there’s no other choice but to vote for Biden.

“It would be irresponsible of me to have us hold our vote hostage,” he stated. “But it would also be irresponsible of me to let this moment go by… and not do everything I can to make sure that going forth we are part of the narrative; that we own our politics.”

That’s why Diddy, who identifies as an independent, is launching the new political party Our Black Party.

“Our Black Party’s number one goal is to unify behind a Black agenda. That’s it,” he declared, noting it doesn’t matter if a person is republican, democrat or independent. “We have to seize our political power.”

Diddy made it clear he doesn’t view Biden as an ideal candidate, but added, “We have one job first right now and that’s to get Trump out of office.”

“Between COVID hitting us and because we weren’t organized for this election, we have no choice, now, to get Trump out of there,” he added. “It’s a shame and it’s our responsibility that we did not get anything out of putting Biden in the place he’s in after the primaries.”

Diddy continued, “When you look at it, we don’t have no choice. You can say what you want about Biden, I can’t say I love the pick either, but hey — we gotta get him in office, then we gotta hold him accountable.”

The rapper emphasized that it’s important to “stay focused on Trump” right now.

“But let’s start to fight for our futures and politically the only way to do that is by what we’re doing with Our Black Party,” he added. “We’re on the verge of becoming extinct.”

Diddy expanded on Our Black Party and the danger of President Trump winning reelection in a series of tweets.

“The NUMBER ONE priority is to get Trump out of office,” he wrote on Friday. “We can't allow this man to continue to try and DIVIDE US. The people that have the most responsibility and should be SCARED TO DEATH of this man are white people. WE ARE ON THE VERGE OF A RACE WAR.”

Scientists finally solve mystery of 'alien' noises coming from deepest part of Pacific Ocean

The Mariana Trench is one of the most mysterious places on Earth.

Measuring almost seven miles (37,000ft) deep, the trench sits on the floor of the Pacific Ocean and is so difficult to reach that just a handful of people have ventured down there.

So it's no surprise that unusual sounds coming from the Mariana Trench sparked fears of an alien invasion when they were first recorded back in 2014.

Lasting between 2.5 and 3.5 seconds, the noises were dubbed 'biotwangs', yet their source was unknown.

Ten years later, scientists from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) have reanalysed the sounds - and believe they've finally revealed the truth.

The eerie noises were first recorded in 2014 by underwater gliders, which were being used to carry out acoustic surveys of the trench.

Lasting between 2.5 and 3.5 seconds, the five-part sounds included deep moans at frequencies as low as 38 hertz and a finale that pushed as high as 8,000 hertz.

Researchers were initially baffled by the noises.

However, in 2016, a team from Oregon State University (OSU) suggested that they could be a new type of previously unheard baleen whale call.

Speaking at the time, Sharon Nieukirk, senior faculty research assistant in marine bioacoustics at Oregon State, said: 'It's very distinct, with all these crazy parts.

'The low-frequency moaning part is typical of baleen whales, and it's that kind of twangy sound that makes it really unique.

'We don't find many new baleen whale calls.'

Now, scientists have reanalysed the noises using a combination of visual and acoustic survey data – and their findings suggest that the OSU team wasn't far off.

Rather than being produced by baleen whales, the new study suggests that Bryde's whales are responsible.

In a study published in the Frontiers in Marine Science journal, the team, led by Dr Ann Allen, explained:

'It was assumed to be produced by a baleen whale, but without visual verification it was impossible to assign a species.

'Using a combination of visual and acoustic survey data collected in the Mariana Archipelago, we determined that Biotwangs are produced by Bryde's whales.'

Bryde's whales can be found around the world in warm, temperate oceans including the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific.

The researchers spotted ten of the whales swimming in the area, and even recorded nine making the distinctive noises.

However, to prove these whales were indeed the source, the team turned to artificial intelligence.

'We used a combination of manual and machine learning annotation methods to detect Biotwangs in our extensive historical passive acoustic monitoring datasets collected across the central and western North Pacific,' they explained in the study.

'We identified a consistent seasonal presence of Biotwangs in the Mariana Archipelago and to the east at Wake Island, with occasional occurrence as far away as the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands and near the equator (Howland Island).'

The team still doesn't know why the whales' calls are so unusual, or why they're being made in the first place.

However, speaking to Popular Science, Dr Allen suggested: 'It's possible that they use the biotwang as a contact call, a sort of "Marco Polo" of the ocean.

'But we need more information before we can say for sure.'

That was certainly the case in October, when the “Vote or Die” founder publicized the launch of Our Black Party in caps-heavy tweets and a RevoltTV interview with Charlamagne Tha God, leading to a flurry of news stories about the founding of the party, which is focused on serving the Black community and its needs.

But by then, the party had in fact been around for a few months and already begun its work: Co-founded by Hyattsville, Maryland Mayor Candace Hollingsworth, former Charlottesville, Virginia Vice-Mayor and City Councilman Dr. Wes Bellamy and the rest of a five-person steering committee, Our Black Party kicked off in July, amid the summer’s unprecedented social justice movement focused on Black lives. Since then, the Party has held informational sessions and around 13-14 “state caucus calls,” per Bellamy; gained around 20,000 email opt-ins; started an educational campaign on social media that also solicits feedback for the party; sent out a survey to learn what members are most passionate about; and begun to request nominations for state directors, in order to build state networks. Its steering committee includes Portsmouth, Virginia’s Commonwealth’s Attorney Stephanie Morales, former Binghamton, New York Council member Lea Webb and For(bes) the Culture founder Rashaad Lambert.

Donald Trump reportedly interviewed several U.S. military pilots about their firsthand UFO encounters while in office, the former President recently revealed.

Trump, the 45th U.S. President and a current contender in the heated 2024 election, made the revelations on Thursday during an appearance on Fox News’ Gutfeld! in response to a question from panelist Kat Timpf.

Timpf asked Trump whether aliens were being kept at a classified U.S. Air Force facility in Nevada known as Area 51, popularly associated with claims involving secret government dealings with UFOs, which the Pentagon now calls unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP).

“You know, I’ll tell ya, it’s a funny thing because, I think that might be a question that I get more than any question,” the former President said. “It is the craziest thing.”

“I will say this. I don’t think I’m a believer, but I’ve interviewed pilots that look—I like Tom Cruise—but better than Tom Cruise,” Trump said as Timpf and other panelists listened with stunned expressions.

“They were in the Oval Office, three or four pilots,” Trump continued. “These are not people that make up stories.”

“They said, all I know sir is there was a round object that was going four times faster than my F-22, which is a very fast plane,” he added.

“And it wasn’t—it shouldn’t have been—it was round sir,” Trump recalled of the descriptions the pilots reportedly provided him of the unidentified object.

“I mean, four or five guys I’ve interviewed, solid people, great pilots for the U.S. Air Force… they’ve seen things that they cannot explain,” Trump said.

Previously, the former president may have alluded to this meeting when he told ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos in 2019 that he “did have one very brief meeting” about the UAP subject while in office.

However, he has consistently maintained skepticism regarding his personal beliefs toward the subject, which he also expressed to Stephanopoulos.

“People are saying they’re seeing UFOs. Do I believe it? Not [particularly],” Trump told Stephanopoulos.

Yet despite his stated skepticism toward UFOs, Trump has also said on many occasions that he believes U.S. pilots who report such encounters have seen something they could not reconcile with any technologies known to be in use by the United States or its foreign adversaries as well as any natural phenomena.

“I think my great pilots would know,” Trump told Stephanopoulos in 2019 when asked about his views on the existence of extraterrestrial life. “Our great pilots would know.”

Earlier this month, podcaster Lex Fridman asked Trump whether he would release additional UFO footage obtained by U.S. military pilots if he wins reelection in November.

“A lot of people want to know,” Fridman told Trump during the interview. “Will you help push the Pentagon to release more footage, which a lot of people claim is available.”

“Oh yeah, sure, I’ll do that. I’d love to do that,” Trump responded, adding that he was also receiving a significant number of requests for the release of additional official records related to the assassination of John F. Kennedy, portions of which were released during his time in office.

Trump is not the only U.S. president who has spoken about aerial incursions involving unknown objects.

Last February, President Joe Biden issued a statement in the aftermath of the shootdown of several “unidentified aerial objects” that occurred in U.S. and Canadian airspace.

“Our intelligence community is still assessing all three incidents,” Biden said at the time. “They are reporting to me daily and will continue their urgent efforts to do so, and I will communicate that to the Congress.”

On Saturday, Sai, a former NHS Director of End-of-Life Care, wrote a Twitter thread which, amongst other things, gave a personal account of the changes to the system of reporting deaths implemented in the NHS:

“When four different diseases [are] grouped and now being called covid-19, you will inevitably see covid-19 with a huge death rate. The mainstream media was reporting on this huge increase in COVID-19 deaths due to the Medical Examiner System being in place.

“Patients being admitted and dying with very common conditions such as old age, myocardial infarctions, end-stage kidney failure, haemorrhages, strokes, COPD and cancer etc. were all now being certified as covid-19 via the Medical Examiner System.

“Hospitals were switching to and from the Medical Examiner System and the pre-pandemic system as [and] when they pleased. When covid-19 deaths needed to be increased, the hospital would switch to the Medical Examiner System.”

In addition, “hospitals were incentivised to report covid-19 deaths over normal deaths, as the government was paying hospitals additional money for every covid-19 death that was being reported,” Sai said. “I do not doubt in my mind, that the Government has planned the entire pandemic since 2016 when they first proposed the change to medical death certification.”

The Supreme Court set a high bar in June for states and individuals to challenge government-tinged censorship of social media, reversing a preliminary injunction against the feds because platforms were already suppressing plaintiffs' posts when public officials targeted them.

Censored doctors Jay Bhattacharya, Martin Kulldorff and Aaron Kheriaty, activist Jill Hines and Gateway Pundit publisher Jim Hoft, and the attorneys general of Louisiana and Missouri believe they can meet that high bar, if a court will let them keep digging for evidence.

The plaintiffs in Missouri v. Biden returned to the Western District of Louisiana this week to show their cards – email conversations already obtained through their litigation, a similar case by journalist Alex Berenson, the Twitter Files and congressional investigations – arguing the evidence justifies more legal discovery likely to reveal enough to satisfy SCOTUS.

That evidence strongly suggests there's more dirt on the censorship role played by former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Dr. Anthony Fauci and his boss, former National Institutes of Health Director Francis Collins, they said.

Berenson showed his promised "particulars" in response to the SCOTUS setback in an amended complaint earlier this month, alleging his censorship by Twitter, now X, was "ultimately traceable" to an ex-President Biden adviser treated as an "intermediary" with the White House.

It's cited in Tuesday's brief by Missouri and Louisiana AGs Andrew Bailey and Liz Murrill and the individual plaintiffs, which also opposes the feds' motion for dismissal.

The plaintiffs are likely to get a friendly response from U.S. District Judge Terry Doughty, who issued the sweeping injunction against "urging, encouraging, pressuring, or inducing" platforms to suppress content more than a year ago based on their limited discovery.

The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals narrowed the injunction but left it in place against the White House, Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, FBI, and Department of Homeland Security's Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. The case became known as Murthy v. Missouri at SCOTUS.

"At no point did the Supreme Court find that Plaintiffs failed to allege standing adequate to maintain the lawsuit," just that they had not "adequately proven that their harm is traceable" to the feds, the memo in support of further discovery says. The New Civil Liberties Alliance is representing the individuals except for Hoft, represented by St. Louis lawyer John Burns.

The high court's decision supports more discovery because it doesn't rest on "those platforms’ independent decisionmaking processes," the brief states. "In the alternative (or better yet, in addition)," Judge Doughty should let them amend the suit to add the "Disinformation Dozen" repeatedly targeted by the White House, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a 2024 presidential candidate.

Doughty greenlit Kennedy's First Amendment suit against the feds last month, saying he was "specifically targeted" for removal by public officials and then suppressed and faced future censorship as Biden's rival, before Kennedy dropped out of the presidential race and endorsed GOP nominee Donald Trump.

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) — Hunter Biden will be sentenced on felony firearms charges in December after the judge agreed Thursday to a delay requested by the defense.

In June, President Joe Biden ‘s son was convicted in Delaware federal court of three felonies for purchasing a gun in 2018 when, prosecutors said, he lied on a federal form by claiming he was not illegally using or addicted to drugs.

He was initially scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 13, but the judge agreed to delay the hearing until Dec. 4 after Hunter Biden’s lawyers said they needed more time to adequately prepare.

The gun charges are punishable by up to 25 years in prison, though he will likely face far less time behind bars or possibly avoid imprisonment entirely.

He also faces sentencing in California on Dec. 16 on federal tax charges he pleaded guilty to earlier this month. Those charges carry up to 17 years behind bars. He also faces up to $1.35 million in fines.

President Biden, who dropped his reelection bid in July, has said he will not use his presidential powers to pardon his son or lessen his sentence.

After his guilty plea on the tax charges, Hunter Biden said he wanted to spare his family another painful ordeal after his gun trial aired salacious and embarrassing details about a time in which struggled with a crack cocaine addiction. Hunter Biden said he’s been sober since 2019.

“I will not subject my family to more pain, more invasions of privacy and needless embarrassment,” Hunter Biden previously said. “For all I have put them through over the years, I can spare them this, and so I have decided to plead guilty.”

‘Bombshell’ population growth in Africa means Europe is entering an “unprecedented” age of mass migration, Emmanuel Macron has said, asserting that the two continents’ destinies are “bound”.

“The migratory phenomenon we are facing will be historic,” declared the French president in a television appearance Sunday night, when he announced that “great poverty”, “climate change”, and “geopolitical conflicts” will see Africans flooding into Europe “for many years to come”.

To back up his point, Macron pointed to “bombshell” population gr0wth across the third world continent, which he added has been “tremendously well described” by French-American journalist and professor Stephen Smith in a recent book.

“[Africans] are mostly turning to Europe because the continent [of Europe] is not an island, because of our location, and because Europe has its destiny bound with Africa,” stated the vehemently pro-EU French figure during a two-hour long interview.

Smith, the Africa expert to whom Macron referred during his appearance on BFMTV, estimates that the number of Africans living in Europe will grow from nine million to between 150 million and 200 million within the next 30 years.

In The Rush to Europe, the Duke University professor describes a massive, unprecedented population transfer still in its infancy, which he explains will — “paradoxically” — be triggered largely as a result 0f Western aid money financing would-be migrants’ journeys from Africa.

Asserting he set out to provide a “dispassionate” expert view on how Africa’s demographic explosion will affect Europe, Smith in his book has outlined a number of different scenarios he believes could emerge from the situation.

“The most optimistic” of these — according to Le Figaro — is “Eurafrica”, which would see mass migration create a ‘welcoming’, multicultural Europe, which “would fully embrace being a ‘mixed-race land of immigration and interbreeding’”.

This scenario would see the end of welfare states in Europe however, Smith said, pointing to the incompatibility of large-scale immigration and generous social programmes.

Another possible scenario, ‘Fortress Europe’, is one which involves “a battle generally considered unwinnable, or even shameful” but which Smith points to as the case which strongly “has its reasons and its chances to succeed”, noting the effectiveness of EU deals with Libya and Turkey in stopping the influx.

The Arizona Supreme Court ruled that almost 98,000 people whose citizenship papers have not been confirmed are allowed to vote in state and local races. The ruling was handed down on Friday, according to the Associated Press (AP). The outlet noted that the decision came “after officials uncovered a database error that, for two decades, mistakenly designated the voters as having access to the full ballot.” The report also said those individuals were already entitled to vote in federal races regardless of the court’s decision. The database error highlighted the problem with those voters’ citizenship statuses, Fox News reported on Friday.
