In what authorities are calling one of the largest drug busts in its history, the Surrey RCMP has seized a significant haul of illicit drugs, firearms, and other contraband following a yearlong investigation by its Drug Unit.
The investigation, launched in June 2023, targeted a criminal group involved in trafficking high-potency drugs and illegal firearms throughout the Lower Mainland.
Over the course of the operation, officers executed seven search warrants in Surrey, Coquitlam, New Westminster, Vancouver, and Richmond, yielding a massive trove of evidence.
Seized items included:
36.4 kilograms of fentanyl
23 kilograms of MDMA
20.4 kilograms of cocaine
23 kilograms of methamphetamine
Various prescription and counterfeit pills, including oxycodone, benzodiazepines, and others
6 prohibited firearms, including two ghost guns and four smuggled firearms
Ammunition, body armor, and three high-value vehicles
Police also confiscated $119,000 in cash and precursor chemicals such as caffeine and phenacetin.
Three suspects, aged 24 to 47, have been arrested in connection with the operation. Charges are pending with the Public Prosecution Services of Canada.
“The totality of drugs seized in this investigation was significant and will disrupt the drug trade in Surrey,” said Officer in Charge Assistant Commissioner Brian Edwards.
“I am extremely proud of our officers’ dedication to duty and passion to investigate the high-level drug traffickers who are harming our community.”
The operation involved support from multiple agencies, including New Westminster Police, Richmond RCMP, the Vancouver Police Department Emergency Response Team, and others.

Former prime minister Stephen Harper was officially appointed as the Chairman of the Board of the Alberta Investment Management Corporation on Wednesday.
The finance ministry previously told True North that it would officially announce the new chair within a few weeks.
While Harper was rumoured to become the next chair, it was alleged that he had existing conflicts of interest that needed to be addressed before officially taking the position.
Alberta Premier Danielle Smith was thankful that Harper accepted the position.

A Canadian federal judge has thrown out a lawsuit filed on behalf of some 330 past and current members of the nation’s military who lost their jobs or were placed on leave for refusing the experimental COVID shots, because she alleged that their lawsuit lacked “evidence” that the jabs were harmful.
The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) members had sought some $1.3 million in damages from the government for having their charter rights violated due to the military’s 2021 COVID mandates, according to their lawsuit.
In a November 13 ruling, Edmonton-based Associate Judge Catherine Coughlan ruled in favor of the Trudeau government, and thus military’s COVID jab mandate, to strike down the case. Coughlan remarked that the plaintiffs’ case lacked “material facts” along with “evidence” and was filled with “vexatious language.”
“The only indications of bad faith are found when the pleadings baldly assert that, among other claims, Canada failed to carry out safety and efficacy testing for the vaccines, and that the Directives were premature and ‘promoted the fraudulent use of the biologics’,” she wrote, overlooking reports of thousands of injuries due to the shots in Canada alone.
As a result of the lawsuit being tossed, all plaintiffs are now on the hook to pay some $5,040 out of pocket in legal costs.

Valery Zaluzhny, the former commander-in-chief of Ukraine’s armed forces, approved a plan to blow up Russia’s TurkStream pipeline in the Black Sea, Der Spiegel reported on Wednesday. The sabotage was supposed to occur simultaneously with the Nord Stream attack, but failed, the paper said.
The German outlet previously reported that Zaluzhny had authorized the September 2022 attack on Nord Stream. Western media have since repeatedly claimed that a small team of Ukrainian divers were behind the sabotage.
According to Der Spiegel, a team of US-trained Ukrainian intelligence officials, who had “longstanding ties to the CIA,” developed the initial plan to attack Nord Stream and showed it to Zaluzhny. The general reportedly “liked operation ‘Diameter’ so much that he even wanted to expand it.” He supposedly wanted to target the Russian gas pipelines in the Black Sea as well, the magazine reports, citing sources allegedly involved in the operation planning.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that with NDP support, his government will pause both GST and HST sales taxes for Canadians on select goods for two months, starting weeks before Christmas.
Taxpayer advocates and Conservatives say this measure doesn’t go far enough to restore affordability in Canada.
The feds, expecting NDP support on the bill, announced a stop to GST and HST taxes on groceries, alcohol, children’s essentials such as car seats and clothing, toys, board and video games, books, and more from Dec. 14, 2024, to Feb. 15, 2025.
According to a government news release, removing the GST on qualifying goods will provide an estimated $1.6 billion in federal tax relief, though the release didn’t specify its estimate for total taxpayer savings for the HST.
It said a family spending $2,000 on the qualifying goods would save an estimated $100 in those two months. In provinces where the HST applies, such as Ontario, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island, that same $2,000 basket will provide an estimated $260 more in savings from the HST.
“Canadians have been through a lot. They work hard. We see that. We’ve been able to get through the past couple of years, but everyone had to tighten their belts a little bit,” Trudeau said in a press conference about the announcement. “We’re there to help with money that will help people buy the things they need and save up for the things they want.”

The chief international bibliography organization and operator of the library classification system WorldCat has quietly branded books by gender ideology critical authors like Abigail Shrier with derogatory “transphobia” and “transphobic works” labels.
Several Canadian libraries, including the Vancouver Public Library and the Greater Victoria Public Library, have followed suit and applied the “transphobia” categorization following the Online Computer Library Center’s direction.
The OCLC is the organization that heads the world’s largest online public access catalogue, collecting hundreds of millions of dollars per year from thousands of member libraries to access its classification systems and in particular the WorldCat catalogue.
True North discovered that two books in particular, Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters by Abigail Shrier and Lost in Trans Nation: A Child Psychiatrist’s Guide Out of the Madness by Dr. Miriam Grossman were branded with the “transphobia” category.
Both books critique aspects of contemporary gender ideology and the dangers that hormone therapy, surgical sex change interventions and transitioning pose for children.
Shrier’s work particularly drew international attention for exposing rapid-onset gender dysphoria in adolescent girls. Additionally, Dr. Grossman is a registered child psychiatrist who has had extensive experience working with trans-identified youth.
Grossman’s book also had a foreword by renowned psychologist Dr. Jordan Peterson.
Correspondence obtained via a Freedom of Information request and reviewed by True North reveals internal GVPL emails discussing the decision to label Shrier’s and Grossman’s books with the “transphobia” label.
Emails dated April 24, 2024, reveal that a library member contacted the GVPL to flag Grossman’s book for removal because they were alerted of its existence in the library’s catalogue by a “trans friend.” Continue…

World Health Organization (W.H.O.) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was hospitalized on Wednesday night in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he had been attending the G20 summit.
Hospital Samaritano Barra da Tijuca in Rio said the W.H.O. chief, 59, was admitted on Wednesday afternoon for “necessary tests, which confirmed clinical indicators with no signs of seriousness.”
The hospital said Tedros spent the night under observation and was released on Thursday morning. He was reportedly given medication for high blood pressure.
Brazilian media reports said Tedros presented with “symptoms of labyrinthitis and an hypertensive crisis.” He had complained of feeling unwell earlier in the week at the G20 summit and has previously been diagnosed with hypertension. Labyrinthitis is an infection of the inner ear that can cause vertigo and nausea.
“I am fortunate that I was diagnosed early and have access to good medical care,” Tedros said of his condition last year. “Unfortunately, the same is not true for the majority of those with hypertension, especially for those in lower-income countries and communities.”
Tedros confirmed on Thursday that he was discharged from the hospital and back to work.
“What saddens me the most is that I am unable to deliver on my promise to pick up my daughter from school today, as my departure was delayed due to the illness,” he said.

“I just got off the phone with all the premiers, and there’s a clear consensus that everyone agrees that we need a bilateral trade deal with the U.S. and a second bilateral trade deal with Mexico,” Ford said at a press conference on Wednesday afternoon.
Ford’s enthusiasm for a bilateral deal apparently stems from President-elect Donald Trump’s criticism that Mexico offers China a means of slipping cheap products past high U.S. and Canadian tariffs.
Ford said on Tuesday that the existing trilateral U.S.-Canada-Mexico Agreement (USMCA), which began in 2020 as the successor to the controversial 1992 North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and comes up for review in 2026, allows Mexico to serve as a “backdoor for Chinese cars, auto parts and other products into Canadian and American markets.”

The Oct. 7 attack by Hamas was the largest slaughter of Jews in one day since World War II.

Germany’s Lutheran Church will now exclude members of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party from any leadership positions due to the party’s politics.

Liz Heflin reports that The Evangelical Church of Central Germany, which serves most of the provinces of Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia, and smaller parts of the provinces of Brandenburg and Saxony, will no longer allow AfD members to serve in any church leadership positions, including on parish councils.
“Anti-human, xenophobic and anti-Church positions are incompatible with holding office either in a parish council or in other leadership positions of our church,” county bishop Friedrich Kramer announced at the beginning of the church’s autumn synod, adding that membership in “extremist parties” is against the church constitution.
The local constitutional protection office in both Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia have declared the AfD a far-right organization, reports Die Welt.

Administering the Trudeau government’s long gun ban is projected to cost taxpayers over $100 million by the end of this fiscal year, despite not one single firearm being confiscated since the program was first introduced.
Conservative MP Larry Brock tabled a Question on the Order Paper which revealed that Public Safety Canada spent $51.6 million on the ban from 2021 to 2023.
That figure brings the total projected spending to at least $88.5 million by next March, when the government’s fiscal year ends.
However, it’s likely to surpass even that figure as the department has expressed the need to increase the program’s funding past that timeline, according to the quarterly report.
Additionally, the $88.5 million does not include the amount spent by Public Safety during the 11-month period between May 2020, when the ban was introduced, and April 2021. However, reports have estimated spending of around $12.5 million and $12 million in 2021 and 2022, respectively.
According to Public Safety Canada’s latest report, these combined expenses bring the total cost allocated for the Liberals’ long gun ban closer to $100 million this fiscal year. Continue…

The Royal Canadian Navy will do away with its official marching song after many years over concerns of its lyrics which refer to colonialism and lack examples of diversity.
The British song Heart of Oak dates back to 1759, more than a century before Canada’s confederation.
It has since been inherited as the official march of the country’s navy for many years, routinely sung at parades and mess dinners.
However, the song has come under fire in recent years over its lyrics which Navy spokesperson Captain Matthew Rowe told the Globe and Mail contain “language that does not align with values and ethos of today’s Royal Canadian Navy or the broader Canadian Armed Forces.”
“Specifically, it includes references to colonialism and slavery, and language that is not representative of all those who serve in today’s Navy,” said Rowe on Thursday. Continue…

Every year, the United Nations convenes a Conferences of Parties to set the world’s agenda to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. It’s the biggest event of the year for the climate industry. This year’s conference (COP29), which ends on Sunday, drew an army of government officials, NGOs, celebrities and journalists (many flying on GHG-emitting jet aircraft) to Baku, Azerbaijan.
The COP follows a similar narrative every year. It opens with a set of ambitious goals for climate policies, followed by days of negotiating as countries jockey to carve out agreements that most favour their goals. In the last two days, they invariably reach a sticking point when it appears the countries might fail to reach agreement. But they burn some midnight oil, some charismatic actors intervene (in the past, this included people such as Al Gore), and with great drama, an agreement is struck in time for the most important event of the year, flying off to their protracted winter holidays.
This year’s COP wants to fast-track the world’s transition to “clean” energy, help vulnerable communities adapt to climate change, work on “mobilizing inclusivity” (whatever that means) and “delivering on climate finance,” which is shorthand for having wealthier developed countries such as Canada transfer massive amounts of wealth to developing countries. A $170-million class-action lawsuit has been filed against the Province of Ontario and its Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Kieran Moore, alleging negligence, misfeasance in public office, tortious inducement to breach contract, and violations of privacy rights related to the implementation of COVID-19 vaccine mandates for healthcare workers.
Lisa Wolfs is the primary plaintiff in the lawsuit. She was previously employed as a Clinical Nurse Educator with London Health Sciences Centre and initiated the suit on behalf of unionized healthcare workers in Ontario. At the heart of the lawsuit is the challenge to the legality of Directive 6, a public health order issued in August 2021 by Dr. Moore.
Court documents show that Wolfs went on medical leave on September 15, 2021, was later cleared to return to work, but was terminated on August 4, 2022, under the enforcement of COVID-19 Directive 6.
Filed under Ontario’s Class Proceedings Act, 1992, the lawsuit seeks to represent tens of thousands of unionized healthcare workers across the province who were subject to the directive. The plaintiff argues that the mandate imposed unauthorized changes to her employment contract, forced the disclosure of personal medical information, and caused significant economic and emotional harm.
