Japan space agency suffers multiple cyberattacks since last year

Japan's space agency has been hit by multiple cyberattacks since last year, the government said Friday, with a potential data leak suspected, but the science ministry says no confidential information leak has been confirmed.

A source close to the matter said the cyberattacks are believed to have been perpetrated by Chinese-affiliated hackers, adding a huge number of files may have been viewed, including information on external companies and organizations under nondisclosure agreements with the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency.

JAXA said the network that was accessed illegally did not contain "sensitive information" related to the operations of rockets, satellites and national security.

Japanese science minister Masahito Moriyama said there is "no great concern."

Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshimasa Hayashi, the top government spokesman, said at a regular press conference that JAXA is investigating the incidents to determine their impact with the cooperation of specialized organizations.

The server attacked in June 2023 stored personal data of JAXA employees, which might have been used to gain access to classified documents, the source said.

The attackers apparently exploited a vulnerability in the virtual private network that allows external connection to the internal system.

JAXA has suffered several cyberattacks this year, according to the source.

The agency was also targeted by cyberattacks in 2016 and 2017, which appeared to be aimed at data theft by hackers affiliated with China.

Consumer Watchdog: Tether Has Become a Crypto of Choice for Cartels, Terrorists, and Human Traffickers

Since its infancy a decade ago digital currency has gained purchase in the marketplace both as an asset class and an alternate mode of exchange. Some believe that the advancement of dollar denominated stablecoins may well strengthen the U.S. dollar’s primacy as the global choice in reserve currency.

But as we build toward our digital future, it’s important to remember that, as with all financial systems, there will be bad actors who attempt to exploit it. True crypto enthusiasts can agree that identifying the bad actors is necessary if digital currencies are to thrive. More debacles, like the fraud-induced collapse of Sam Bankman-Fried’s FTX, could further erode market confidence and delay or derail the development of the crypto market. That’s why Consumers’ Research is calling out Tether as a threat to the future of money.

Tether, whose parent company iFinex is registered in Hong Kong, is a major stablecoin operator. Stablecoins are a promising crypto innovation which features the fast and low-cost transactions benefit of digital currencies without the volatility associated with cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin. Stablecoins maintain a stable value because they’re backed by a reserve asset such as the U.S. dollar or commodities such as gold. In Tether’s case, it asserts that its USD₮ stablecoin offering is backed by a 1-for-1 ratio with the U.S. dollar. But Tether’s failure to submit USD₮ to a rigorous independent financial audit stands out as an exception among its competitors.

There’s ample cause for concern.

In 2021, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission ordered Tether to pay a $41 million penalty for misrepresenting to customers that, between June 1, 2016 and February 25, 2019, its reserve of U.S. dollars was large enough to redeem every USD₮ in circulation with the “equivalent amount of corresponding fiat currency.” Even after that, Tether still refused to submit to a full audit.

In December 2023, S&P issued risk assessments of eight of the top stablecoins. Tether scored an alarming four, with five being the lowest possible rating and one the highest. “Tether’s lowly score reflects a lack of information about who or what holds its reserve assets,” according to a Reuters report, which continued that “a large chunk of those are U.S. government bonds and cash-like equivalents, but there is also ‘significant exposure’ to riskier assets.”

Tether has publicly stated that it had a total staff of just 60 people, with plans to potentially scale to 90 employees. Comparably sized financial institutions (i.e., overseeing $80 billion in assets; earning net revenue of $1.6 billion/quarter; or issuing assets held by millions of consumers) in the United States generally employ 10,000 people, of whom about 100 (one percent on average) would be full-time compliance officers. Even if all 60 Tether employees were compliance staff, it would be a red flag for significant “safety and soundness” issues that elevate the risk of mismanagement, non-compliance, or poor market conduct.

Much in the same way that Tether refuses to come clean with an audit of its assets, the company appears equally unwilling to clean up the issue surrounding its unsavory use by nefarious actors. Chinese crime syndicates reportedly favor USD₮ to launder billions of dollars in profits derived from illegal gambling, drug dealing, and investment scams. And USD₮ is widely used by Chinese actors to finance fentanyl traffic, now the top cause of death among Americans aged 18 to 45. Tether also appears to be the method of choice for payments destined for Hamas’s Al-Qassam Brigades, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and Hezbollah. That doesn’t mean that Tether directly encourages people using its stablecoin for drug trafficking and terrorism, but a good institutional operator should be concerned about its cryptocurrency being used for illicit purposes. Obviously, Tether has other priorities.

Given its practices, Tether presents a continuing financial risk to consumers, which is why Consumers’ Research is issuing a Consumer Warning on Tether. At the same time, we remain enthusiastic about America’s digital currency future, including stablecoins. Working to clear the crypto marketplace of bad actors will help ensure its survival and help fulfill its economic promise to American consumers.

Brent crude futures were flat on Friday amid rising geopolitical tensions in Eastern Europe, which seems counterintuitive as escalating war risks could result in supply disruptions.In the overnight hours, four refineries in southern Russia were targeted, with one facility damaged, in one of the largest drone swarm attacks since the war in Ukraine began, Bloomberg reports.

Seventy drones were intercepted and destroyed over Crimea and the Black Sea and 43 over the Krasnodar region, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Telegram, without saying how many drones took part in the attack. The Afipsky, Ilsky, Krasnodar and Astrakhan refineries were attacked, Ukraine's General Staff said later in a Facebook post.

In the Seversky district of the Krasnodar region, where the Afipsky and Ilsky refineries are located, "administrative buildings were damaged on the territory of an oil refinery" as a result of the attack, local governor Veniamin Kondratyev said on Telegram. Interfax earlier reported that a fire affecting area of 50 square meters (538 square feet) was extinguished by morning, with two people injured. -BBG

Ukraine's military claimed responsibility for the drone swarm attack, saying it launched drones against "the Afipskiy, Ilskiy, Krasnodar and Astrakhan oil refineries."They also said an intelligence center in southern Russia was targeted.

Drones also targeted a "preparation and storage area" in the Krasnodar region, resulting in a "series of explosions and a fire with subsequent detonation," Ukraine said.

More than two years since the war began,Ukraine is ramping up cross-borderdrone attacks on Russian energy infrastructure as conflict spillover risks soar.Kyiv and its Western backers aim to paralyze one of Russia's most important industries: oil refining.

In recent days, Ukrainian drone attacks have damaged several oil storage facilities. Last month, two other refineries in southern Russia, including Rosneft's large Tuapse facility on the Black Sea, were targeted. In March, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna said oil refineries in Russia are "absolutely legitimate targets" from a military point of view.

Recall that theBiden administration has freaked out about Ukrainian drone strikes in Russia. This was primarily because of the risk of driving Brent crude prices north of $100/bbl. However, in recent weeks, Biden 'greenlighted' Ukraine to attack deep within Russia with US weapons.

In markets, Brent crude prices headed for the first back-to-back weekly gain since early April. Prices are ending the week around the $85/bbl handle. Escalating conflicts in Eastern Europe and the Middle East reflect a higher war risk premium that should be added to Brent crude prices. One major issue is if Ukraine continues targeting Russian oil infrastructure,Moscow could retaliate by lashing out at energy infrastructure relied on by the West. As we recently noted, this includes the "CPC pipeline carrying oil from Kazakhstan through Russia to the global market."

Given all the conflict, the Biden team continues to be very concerned becausean energy shock could send domestic gasoline prices at the pump to the politically sensitive $4-a-gallon level.

Former Trump advisor Steve Bannon asked the Supreme Court Friday to delay his prison sentence.

A federal judge ordered Bannon to report to prison by July 1. Thursday night, the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected 2-1 his bid to postpone the four-month sentence while he appeals his conviction for contempt of Congress.

“If Mr. Bannon is not granted continued release pending further appeal, he would likely be forced to serve his entire sentence before this Court could consider the important issues raised in his case, because his sentence would run during the Summer and Fall of 2024, during the Summer recess,” his attorneys told the Supreme Court in the emergency application Friday.

In May, the D.C. Circuit Court of appeals upheld Bannon’s conviction. Bannon’s attorneys have indicated they intend to appeal this ruling for an en banc rehearing or to the Supreme Court.

“There is also no denying the fact that the government seeks to imprison Mr. Bannon for the four-month period immediately preceding the November presidential election,” they continued. “There is no reason for that outcome in a case that presents substantial legal issues.”

The bodies of two men, including a U.S. Air Force colonel who served as director of operations for the Alaskan Command, have been recovered after their small plane plunged into an Alaska lake.

The plane was found Thursday about 193 feet (59 meters) deep in Crescent Lake, on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula about 100 miles (161 kilometers) south of Anchorage.

Volunteers with the Alaska Air National Guard and( the Alaska Dive Search, Rescue and Recovery Team used a remote vehicle to float the Piper PA-18 Super Cub and tow it to shore, Alaska Wildlife Troopers said in an online statement.

The bodies of both Col. Mark “Tyson” Sletten, 46, of Anchorage, and Paul Kondrat, 41, of Salt Lake City, were inside the plane. They have been sent to the state medical examiner’s office for autopsies.

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash.

“The news has been devastating for all of us here at Alaskan Command and the loss of Tyson is being felt throughout our community,” Lt. Gen. David Nahom said in a statement. “Right now, our priority is taking care of his family and our teammates that were close to Tyson.”

Berlin is exploring options to outsource asylum processing beyond the EU, Chancellor Olaf Scholz has said

The German government is considering plans to process asylum claims outside the EU, Chancellor Olaf Scholz has confirmed. The UK’s deal with Rwanda and Italy’s agreement with Albania are among the models that have already been reviewed as part of Berlin's plan to curb illegal immigration.

Speaking to reporters after meeting with the leaders of Germany’s federal states on Thursday,Scholz said Berlin is “carefully” studying its options. There is a “firm agreement to continue the process,” he added.(No Wonder this guy is losing to AfD)

Scholz admitted earlier this week that Germany “needs immigration of workers and skilled workers,” but added that it must also find a way to “manage irregular migration successfully.”

The issue has intensified in Germany in recent months following a huge surge in migrants.

Scholz has pledged to take a tougher stance on migration following several cases of violence involving immigrants this month.

The chancellor said the government will examine expert reports in the coming months to determine whether it is possible to outsource asylum procedures to third countries.

Italy’s agreement to outsource the processing of some asylum applications to Albania and a similar deal between the UK and Rwanda have reportedly already been reviewed. Scholz cautioned, however, that these schemes are not extensive enough to tackle Germany’s challenges and that “things won’t be as easy as we’ve seen in other countries.”

Interior Minister Nancy Faeser has also said the Italy-Albania scheme could not be used in Germany because a “maximum limit of 3,000 refugees has been agreed [by Albania],” describing it as “a very small number.”

Faeser was also skeptical about the efficiency of the UK’s plan to send refugees to Rwanda for processing, noting that London is still facing difficulties in getting the plan off the ground.

According to a Bloomberg report this week,Berlin is in talks with Uzbekistan, a former Soviet republic, over a migration pact that could include the deportation of Afghan asylum seekers rejected from Germany to Kabul.

Uzbek authorities are examining the proposal, but want any migration deal to include bilateral rules that would facilitate the legal migration of skilled workers from Uzbekistan to Germany, the outlet said, citing sources.

House Intelligence Committee Chair Mike Turner (R-Ohio) is ripping into the Biden administration for not being more transparent about intelligence on Russia’s purported development of a space-based nuclear weapon.

Turner, speaking June 20 at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, accused the White House of withholding details about the status of the Russian anti-satellite weapon program, which he described as the modern-day equivalent of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

“If you’re not using intelligence to impact the outcome then intelligence has no value,” Turner said. “We need the administration to declassify the status of this program.”

The GOP lawmaker first raised alarms in February about the “grave” threat posed by Russia’s efforts to place a nuclear device in orbit capable of generating a catastrophic electromagnetic pulse to disable satellites.

The next day, the White House confirmed seeing intelligence about an anti-satellite threat from Moscow but said it was not yet an operational capability.

Turner during his talk at CSIS insisted that disclosing more information would not jeopardize sources and methods, arguing it could help deter Russia and inform how the U.S. works with allies on the issue.

“Knowing more about the status of the program can inform our to-do list, and how we work with allies,” he said.

‘Day zero’ event

The congressman raised the specter of Russia detonating a nuclear weapon in space as a potential “day zero” event sparking an armed conflict that could bring “the end of the Space Age” that began with Sputnik in 1957.

“The administration was willing to come forward and say that Russia is developing an anti-satellite nuclear weapon. The administration has confirmed this. This is not speculative,” Turner said.

“There are probably differing opinions as to what needs to be done. But that’s the dialogue that we need to be having, on what should be done. And the administration is not having that debate within itself or with the American public or worldwide with our allies.”

Turner accused the Biden administration of “sleepwalking into an irreversible ‘day zero'” and alleged that some factions within the government believe the U.S. can tolerate Russia’s space-based nuclear ambitions.

He alleged that the White House is avoiding the topic to obscure the “gap between what they should be doing and what they are doing.”

He called on the U.S. and NATO to jointly declare their resolve to enforce the 1967 Outer Space Treaty banning the stationing of weapons of mass destruction in orbit.

Rocket Lab launches first Kinéis satellites on 50th Electron

Rocket Lab successfully launched the first set of satellites for a French startup June 20 on the 50th flight of its Electron rocket.

The Electron lifted off from Rocket Lab’s Launch Complex 1 in New Zealand at 2:13 p.m. Eastern, carrying five Internet of Things (IoT) satellites for French company Kinéis.

Those satellites were deployed from the Electron’s kick stage about an hour later into orbits at an altitude 635 kilometers and inclination of 98 degrees.

The launch is the first of five Rocket Lab will perform for Kinéis under a contract announced in September 2021. Each launch will place five satellites weighing 28 kilograms each into orbit to build out a constellation to provide IoT services.

Alexandre Tisserant, chairman and chief executive of Kinéis, said in a statement that the launch went well and that spacecraft controllers were now working to adjust the orbits of the five spacecraft.

“These first five satellites in the constellation mark the start of the IoT revolution driven by Kinéis connectivity and offer the prospect of full commercial services,” he said.

The companies have not announced the schedule of the other four launches in the contract, other than a comment by Tisserant that the second launch was planned for “later this year.”

For Rocket Lab, the launch was the 50th flight of Electron since its introduction in May 2017.

Electron has emerged as the leading commercial small launch vehicle in Western markets, particularly as competitors suffered technical or financial setbacks ranging from launch failures to bankruptcies, as well as competition from larger rockets offering rideshare services.

“When Electron lifted off the pad for the first time in 2017, we knew we’d unlocked a new era in spaceflight, one where small satellites got to call the shots for the first time with frequent, tailored and reliable access to orbit.

Fifty launches later Electron is the most successful commercial small rocket globally,” Peter Beck, chief executive of Rocket Lab, said in a statement.

Rocket Lab boasted that Electron reached the milestone of 50 launches faster than any other commercially developed rocket, at seven years and one month.

SpaceX’s Falcon 9 made its 50th launch in March 2018, seven years and nine months after its debut.

The 50 Electron launches includes one flight of a suborbital variant called HASTE in 2023.

It also includes four launch failures, one on its inaugural launch because of a problem with ground software that triggered range safety systems and three on launches from 2020 to 2023 because of separate problems with the upper stage.

Falcon 9 suffered one in-flight failure in its first 50 launches as well as the loss of another Falcon 9 in a pad test in 2016.

This launch was the eighth of this year for the Electron.

Rocket Lab had previously projected performing 22 Electron launches, including two HASTE missions, in 2024, but in a May earnings call backed off of those projections, citing customer delays.

The company did not announce after the Kinéis launch the date or the customer of its next Electron mission.

Researchers are developing a new, military-grade "quantum laser" that can cut through fog and operate across long distances.

The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has awarded a $1 million grant to scientists building a prototype "quantum photonic-dimer laser" that uses quantum entanglement to "glue" light particles together and generate a highly concentrated laser beam.

Lasers play a crucial role in military operations and are used in everything from satellite communications and targeting technology to mapping and tracking systems like lidar (light detection and ranging).

Conventional lasers work by stimulating electrons in atoms to oscillate in unison. When these electrons move from a high-energy state to a low-energy state, they release a form of light called "coherent light" — light with uniform wavelength and phase.

As this light is bounced between mirrors inside the laser device, it is refined into a concentrated laser beam.

But by using entangled photons, the quantum photonic-dimer laser can maintain precision and strength over greater distances and in adverse conditions, the scientists said in a statement.

Quantum lasers could therefore provide better performance for military applications like surveillance and secure communications in harsh environments.

"Photons encode information when they travel, but the travel through the atmosphere is very damaging to them," project lead Jung-Tsung Shen, associate professor of electrical & systems engineering at Washington University in St. Louis.

"When two photons are bound together, they still suffer the effects of the atmosphere, but they can protect each other so that some phase information can still be preserved."

The two-color photonic dimer laser works by bonding pairs of photons — fundamental particles that represent the smallest building blocks of electromagnetic radiation — through a process called quantum entanglement.

Quantum entanglement is a strange and complex phenomenon in the field of quantum mechanics that occurs when two or more particles become interconnected in such a way that one particle instantly influences the state of the other ­— regardless of the distance between them.

When two photons are linked together through quantum entanglement, they create what are known as photonic dimers, the researchers said.

These pairs of photons are easier to manipulate because they act as a single entity, with any change applied to one photon directly affecting the other.

This binding of light particles increases the energy and stability of the laser, making it better at performing over long distances and in adverse conditions like extreme temperatures and fog.

Previous work by Shen and his team, published in December 2020, explored how quantum photonic-dimer laser technology could be used to improve deep brain imaging. In that study, they used photonic dimers to map intricate neural structures.

The technology can also play a role in quantum computing and telecommunications, the researchers said, possibly leading to faster and more secure ways of transmitting data.

"We are trying to exploit the property of entanglement to do something innovative. The entanglement can do many things that we can only dream of — this is just the tip of the iceberg," Shen said.

In addition to the April 8 total solar eclipse and vibrant displays of auroras, there's another celestial treat for skywatchers this year: the first "major lunar standstill" since 2006.

During this event, the moon rises and sets at its most extreme northerly and southerly positions on the horizon, reaching its highest and lowest points in the 18.6-year lunar cycle.

This is possible because the moon doesn't follow the same path as the sun. Its rising and setting positions on the horizon change constantly due to the movements of Earth and the moon.

The solar system is flat, with the planets orbiting the sun on the same plane, known as the ecliptic.

Earth rotates on an axis tilted by 23.4 degrees with respect to this ecliptic, causing the sun to rise and set within almost 47 degrees — a range it gradually covers over an entire year.

The moon's orbit is tilted by 5.1 degrees relative to the ecliptic, allowing it to rise and set within a 57-degree range in any given month.

This explains why the moon can sometimes rise and set at points on the horizon farther north and south than the sun can.

A major lunar standstill, or lunistice, occurs when the tilts of both Earth and the moon are at their maximum. During this period, the moon rises and sets at the extremes of its range.

It rises at its very highest northeasterly point and sets at its very highest northwesterly point. During this period, it also rises at its most southeasterly point and sets at its most southwesterly point.

The major lunar standstill significantly affects how long the moon is in the sky at night. A moon rising farthest northeast in the Northern Hemisphere climbs higher into the sky and stays in the sky longer.

It shines in a noticeably different position than during a minor lunar standstill, when the range of where it rises and sets is at its narrowest.

Historical sites such as Stonehenge, Callanish and Newgrange appear to be aligned with moonrise and moonset points during a major lunar standstill, indicating the celestial event’s past importance.

This major lunar standstill will be at its most extreme around the equinoxes in September 2024 and March 2025.

However, visibility depends on the moon's phase, your location and the weather.

Good times to look include when the moon rises and the sun sets, and vice versa, during a full moon.

Alaskan Command operations director killed in civilian aircraft crash

An Air Force fighter pilot and colonel who served as the operations director for the U.S. military’s Alaskan Command was killed in an off-base crash involving a small civilian aircraft Tuesday, the Air Force said.

Air Force Col. Mark “Tyson” Sletten, 46, of Anchorage, was one of two people in a Piper PA-18 two-seat aircraft that crashed in Crescent Lake near Moose Pass on Alaska’s Kenai Peninsula. An underwater drone on Thursday found Sletten’s body, and that of a Utah man, 41-year-old Paul Kondrat, inside the aircraft, submerged under about 193 feet of water, Alaska state troopers said in a news release.

Over 15,000 auto dealerships nationwide face major disruptions due to an ongoing cyberattack for the third day, shutting down their backend management systems. This has halted sales for some dealers and forced others to complete transactions the old-fashioned way: by hand.

CDK Global, the leading provider of dealership management systems and digital retailing solutions, said cybersecurity breaches began on Tuesday. By Wednesday afternoon, CDK's core systems were restored, only to be shuttered on Thursday after a second hack attack. This has made it nearly impossible for thousands of dealers to buy and sell vehicles this week.

"We cannot process paperwork. Everything is frozen, everything is tied up — we cannot move money back and forth to pay off cars, to finance our customers' transactions," Tom Maioli, who owns Celebrity Motor Car Company with dealerships across York and New Jersey, told CBS MoneyWatch. He said his business is "completely shut down."

Ukrainian Drone Swarms Target Four Russian Refineries In Major Attack

Brent crude futures were flat on Friday amid rising geopolitical tensions in Eastern Europe, which seems counterintuitive as escalating war risks could result in supply disruptions.

In the overnight hours, four refineries in southern Russia were targeted, with one facility damaged, in one of the largest drone swarm attacks since the war in Ukraine began, Bloomberg reports.

Seventy drones were intercepted and destroyed over Crimea and the Black Sea and 43 over the Krasnodar region, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Telegram, without saying how many drones took part in the attack. The Afipsky, Ilsky, Krasnodar and Astrakhan refineries were attacked, Ukraine's General Staff said later in a Facebook post.

In the Seversky district of the Krasnodar region, where the Afipsky and Ilsky refineries are located, "administrative buildings were damaged on the territory of an oil refinery" as a result of the attack, local governor Veniamin Kondratyev said on Telegram. Interfax earlier reported that a fire affecting area of ​​50 square meters (538 square feet) was extinguished by morning, with two people injured. -BBG

Ukraine's military claimed responsibility for the drone swarm attack, saying it launched drones against "the Afipskiy, Ilskiy, Krasnodar and Astrakhan oil refineries." They also said an intelligence center in southern Russia was targeted.

Drones also targeted a "preparation and storage area" in the Krasnodar region, resulting in a "series of explosions and a fire with subsequent detonation," Ukraine said.

More than two years since the war began, Ukraine is ramping up cross-border drone attacks on Russian energy infrastructure as conflict spillover risks soar. Kyiv and its Western backers aim to paralyze one of Russia's most important industries: oil refining.

In recent days, Ukrainian drone attacks have damaged several oil storage facilities. Last month, two other refineries in southern Russia, including Rosneft's large Tuapse facility on the Black Sea, were targeted.

In March, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister Olha Stefanishyna said oil refineries in Russia are "absolutely legitimate targets" from a military point of view.

Recall that the Biden administration has freaked out about Ukrainian drone strikes in Russia. This was primarily because of the risk of driving Brent crude prices north of $100/bbl. However, in recent weeks, Biden 'greenlighted' Ukraine to attack deep within Russia with US weapons.

In markets, Brent crude prices headed for the first back-to-back weekly gain since early April. Prices are ending the week around the $85/bbl handle. Escalating conflicts in Eastern Europe and the Middle East reflect a higher war risk premium that should be added to Brent crude prices.

Biden DHS Board Painted Trump Supporters, Military And Religious People As Terror Threats, Docs Show

A Department of Homeland Security (DHS) advisory board characterized supporters of former President Donald Trump, as well as those who are in the military and religious people, as posing potential domestic terrorism risks, according to internal documents obtained by America First Legal (AFL).

The board, called the “Homeland Intelligence Experts Group,” was created in September 2023 to provide DHS with “expert” analysis on subjects such as terrorism and fentanyl trafficking. The panel included former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, former CIA Director John Brennan and former CIA Operations Officer Paul Kolbe, all of whom signed an October 2020 letter casting doubt on the legitimacy of the Hunter Biden laptop and suggesting its release was a Russian disinformation ploy.

Internal documents obtained by AFL show the board characterizing “supporters of the former president” as constituting “most of the Domestic Terrorism threat” in the United States. The documents also classified traits such as having served “in the military” and being “religious” as “indicators of extremists and terrorism,” citing unnamed research.

Military personnel are less likely to be supporters of radical political causes than other Americans, according to a 2023 RAND Corporation study. Nevertheless, suspicions of extremism in the military were popular among Democrats in the wake of the Jan. 6 riots, as 15 Democrat lawmakers signed a letter in 2021 urging Inspector General Sean O’Donnell to “take action on this wave of violent extremism” in the military.

AFL on Thursday released the first collection of documents that detailed the committee’s desire to increase information collection on Americans, including getting “mothers” and “teachers” to report on children suspected of extremism under the pretext of “public health.” The committee cited the model of the “See Something, Say Something” campaign after 9/11, which was an initiative by the DHS to encourage American citizens to report potential terror threats.

The DHS panel was shut down following a lawsuit from AFL in conjunction with former Acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell. The lawsuit alleged the group violated the Federal Advisory Committee Act, which governs how federal advisory committees can legally operate.

“These inflammatory records reveal the interworkings of the illegal partisan committee that we proudly stopped,” AFL Executive Director Gene Hamilton told the Daily Caller News Foundation. “All Americans should be alarmed about the contents of these records. All efforts to weaponize the federal government against political opponents of the ruling regime should be stopped.”

Brennan and Clapper were also signatories of the 2020 letter that alleged the Hunter Biden laptop contents may have been part of a Russian disinformation campaign. The contents of the laptop were verified by the Daily Caller News Foundation along with other media outlets.

The DHS did not immediately respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.

New York Jewish Week — In the years before October 7, Steven Epstein wasn’t the type to go door to door in New York City’s northern suburbs to get out the vote.

That’s exactly what many people are saying about comedian Louis C.K. after his recent chat with Joe Rogan about Biden’s devastating border invasion. It was one of those candid moments where he let the beans spill all over the floor, revealing,firstly, that this invasion was planned. He then went on to discuss why the left is determined to see America overrun with uneducated, low-skilled, and often-times criminal illegals.

As Louis C.K. pointed out, he believes it’s simply not “fair” that the US is so much better than everyone else. According to what he expressed, the leftist mindset is that we need to be brought down a few pegs, andthe quickest way to do that is by importing low-IQ, low-skilled filth into the country. This isn’t how you create “fairness.” It’s how you topple an entire country from within. And the fact of the matter is, the left knows this and is more than okay with it. Just look at what the left is doing with their twisted and dangerous DEI agenda that promotes people based on charity, not excellence. We’re dumbing down the US at a rate that’s mind-blowing, and it will take decades to recover from this.

The left wants to turn the US into a third-world country, all to satisfy some misguided elite white guilt and even out the playing field.

This is very revealing, and yes, while they want votes to secure power, in reality, they have even bigger plans. What they’re doing is based on history—just look at what happened to Rome.

Ever since Reagan gave amnestyto about three million illegal immigrants, undoing the deterrence posture created by Eisenhower’s massive deportation operation,America has suffered under the weight of an increasingly onerous illegal immigration problem. Even as advances in robotics make unskilled field and factory labor less and less needed, millions upon millions more unskilled, illegal laborers pour into the country. Some presidents, such as Trump, attempt to stop them. Others, like Biden, leave the gate wide open. These illegal immigrants cost the public coffers titanic sums each year, bring crime and third-world horror shows with them, and there are tens of millions of them.

Meanwhile, Americans refuse to procreate. Whether because they’re depressed, something is in the water, it’s just too expensive, or some combination thereof, fertility is falling like a rock and is now well below replacement level. Some groups, such as religious conservatives, are at least close to replacing themselves. But, amongst the petty bourgeoise class, or the college-educated functionary class (think middle managers), fertility is extremely low and somehow getting even lower.

To where will that lead? Unfortunately, probably not a Black Death-like Renaissance created by once overly expensive land becoming cheaper after the population starts to fall; the tidal wave of illegal immigration precludes that. Rather, we have to look forward to experiencing what Rome experienced: foreigners overtaking the “management” class as it fades from existence thanks to low fertility.

Rome had an immigration problem too, and it took them down well before the Gothic mass migration arrived.

Rome’s immigration problem, or at least a general impression of it, is well known. From Marcus Aurelius to the fall of Rome itself, vast hordes of barbarians from beyond the Rhine and Danube poured across the border.

They caused the Crisis of the Third Century, composed the horde that weakened the Western Roman Empire for good at Adrianople, and sacked Rome and deposed the last Western Roman Emperor in the late 400s. As Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, while remarking on the cost of illegal immigration to Rome in 2021, put it, “When the Roman Empire fell, it was largely as a result of uncontrolled immigration. The empire could no longer control its borders, people came in from the east, all over the place, and we went into a Dark Ages.”

But there’s more to it than just mass migration and “refugees” causing chaos and, eventually, the collapse of a once-omnipotent civilization. The other, related problem, one that was probably more disastrous in the end, is that Rome’s equites class had a miserable fertility rate that nothing could correct, and so that class, one that once composed the officer corps of the legions, gradually withered away and was replaced by freed slaves, men who no longer had the talent or inclination for leading the legions into battle and instead administered the empire corruptly.

We see these examples of “dumbing down” and DEI everywhere. Actually, we recently published an article on how Google Maps allegedly doesn’t want a “scenic route” feature for fear that it would divert people away from poor communities.

The push for DEI has reached the peak of absurdity and danger, folks. We’re now risking life and limb to prove to some phantom source that we’re not racist by trekking through dangerous neighborhoods. Mr. and Mrs. Jones from the suburbs are now tiptoeing down the mean streets of urban America, dodging bullets and beatdowns just to avoid offending “low-income” communities. The hubbub started when Kasey Klimes, a senior UX researcher for Google Maps from 2017 to 2021, wrote a thread on X suggesting it’s racist to offer a “scenic route” option because it would route traffic away from low-income areas, who somehow depend on foot or car traffic from random suburbanites in order to thrive.

So, essentially, Google Maps would rather have you risk your life trekking through ugly, depressing, and dangerous ‘hoods than allow you to travel through beautiful, safe areas, because of “racism” or something like that. What it boils down to is the dumbing-down of America. Instead of building people up and lifting them out of despair, we’re now expected to jump in with them and normalize the pain and suffering. This is how you topple a country from within, and Democrats know it.
