Chrissy Teigen Fears Trump Will ‘Come After’ Her If He Wins Election

Hollywood star Chrissy Teigen is afraid that former President Donald Trump will “come after” her if he re-takes the White House in November, making her the latest left-wing figure to publicly express a fear of potential Trump retribution.

Chrissy Teignen said she is scared Trump still resents her for calling him a “pussy ass bitch” on social media several years ago.

“It’s also kind of scary, because it’s, ‘Oh, he’s aware of me’,” Teigen said during an interview with the podcast “On with Kara Swisher,” according to a Deadline report. “What could really happen because of that? We obviously know he’s unhinged but could he actually come after you in other ways? It’s a weird feeling.”

Teigen’s husband John Legend was also present for the interview, saying he is endorsing President Joe Biden’s bid for re-election.

“We’re going to be active. We’re going to the White House on the way home from here and we’re going to support President Biden,” Legend said.

Teigen acknowledged her outspoken political activism could hurt her consumer brands/

“When you’re a name attached to your own thing, anything you say or do can affect the company or take it down for who knows how long,” she reportedly said. “[Grocery] stores aren’t used to the world of celebrity partnerships. Paul Newman [with his salad dressing] isn’t going to get in trouble anymore… but if they’ve been saturated with phone calls because I spoke up about health care or women’s rights… it puts a lot of fear into them.”

Chrissy Teigen is the latest left-wing figure to publicly express fear that Trump will seek revenge on them.

In March, Robert De Niro predicted that Trump “will come looking for me” if he wins in November.

Former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe told CNN this month that people in the intelligence community are wondering if they should leave the country if Trump wins, with some expressing fear they are headed for jail.

Many intelligence officials were implicated in the Russia collusion hoax. Others publicly lied about Hunter Biden’s laptop, falsely claiming just prior to the 2020 election that the laptop story was Russian disinformation.

Sixteen U.S. soldiers who died during World War II and the Korean War have been accounted for, according to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA).

Seven prisoners of war from WWII were accounted for, according to a series of press releases issued Monday by the DPAA. The servicemen were identified as Sgt. Jack H. Hohlfeld, Corporal Raymond N. DeCloss, Sgt. Sam A. Prince, Tech. Sgt. Charles E. Young Jr, Private Robert W. Cash, Private Jacob Gutterman, and Pfc. Joseph C. Murphy. The newly accounted for service members were among thousands of prisoners taken by Japanese forces in the Philippines,

The DPAA also recently accounted for nine fallen servicemen who perished in the Korean War. They were identified as Sgt. Clayton M. Pierce, Corporal William Colby, Sgt. Charles E. A group of good Samaritans helped nab the 25-year-old Ecuadorean migrant wanted for the brutal sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl at a Queens park — smacking him around and tying him up with a belt.

Dramatic video and photos obtained by The Post shows the shirtless creep – later identified by police as Christian Geovanny Inga-Landi – cowering on the sidewalk early Tuesday as the angry mob pounds him and calls him out as “a rapist.”

“Where are you going? Where are you going?” a woman is heard screaming in Spanish while clutching his hair. “He’s a rapist. He don’t care.”

Texas is leading a 19-state coalition challenging a federal agency requiring states to implement a “green energy” transition.

The states filed a complaint with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) in response to a rule it passed to advance unprecedented federal control over the U.S. electric grid. Currently, state regulatory bodies determine the most efficient mix of energy sources for their states. FERC’s new rule appears to be an unfunded mandate, requiring states to implement “green energy” electricity generation and cover the costs to transition to it.

Texas, which maintains its own electric grid, filed the complaint, leading a 19-state coalition. It argues FERC’s rule exceeds its authority, is arbitrary and capricious and creates an “unjust, unreasonable, and/or unduly discriminatory rates” that violate the Federal Power Act.

The rule is “not supported by reasoned decision-making or explanation and runs counter to the evidence,” the 48-page brief states. FERC issued the rule “attempting to do indirectly what it cannot do directly: usurp the States’ exclusive authority over generation choices by adopting planning rules designed to benefit remote renewable generation and renewable developers, and shift billions or trillions of dollars in transmission costs from those developers onto electric consumers,” the coalition argues.

At Least 11 Dead, 64 Missing After 2 Shipwrecks Off Italy

Following a shipwreck off the southern coast of Italy on Monday, a statement from United Nations agencies stated that 64 individuals were also reported missing in the Mediterranean Sea.

The German assistance agency RESQSHIP posted on the social media website X (Twitter) on Monday, stating that while rescue crews in another shipwreck managed to save scores of suspected illegal immigrants, they discovered 10 bodies submerged beneath the deck of a wooden boat near the small Italian island of Lampedusa.

According to survivors cited by U.N. agencies, the boat that capsized some 200 kilometers (125 miles) off the coast of Calabria had set out from Turkey eight days prior. However, it later caught fire and capsized.

The Italian coast guard released a statement announcing that the search and rescue effort had begun in response to a mayday call made by a French boat. The vessel was traveling across a border region where search and rescue missions are conducted by Greece and Italy.

According to U.N. officials, survivors and those who are still missing at sea are from the countries Iran, Syria, and Iraq.

Two neighboring merchant vessels were quickly diverted to the rescue area by the Italian Maritime Rescue Coordination Center. Resources from Frontex, a European border and coast guard organization, were also beneficial in the rescue efforts.

The survivors were transported to the port of Roccella Jonica in Calabria, where they disembarked and received care from medical staff. As per the Coast Guard, one of the eleven rescued migrants passed away shortly after.

“In the second shipwreck, the crew aboard RESQSHIP’s boat, the Nadir, found 61 people on the wooden boat, which was full of water,” AP News reported.

Israeli jets bomb Lebanon

The IDF has reportedly approved plans for a ground operation against Hezbollah

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) jets have bombed several Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon, West Jerusalem announced on Tuesday evening.

Earlier in the day, Hezbollah released a video of what it says are its spy drones flying over northern Israel and filming the port of Haifa, apparently untouched by air defenses or interceptors.

The IDF announced it had “successfully intercepted a suspicious aerial target in the coastal area of Gesher HaZiv,” a kibbutz near the Lebanese border.

“[Israeli Air Force] fighter jets struck a number of Hezbollah terror targets in southern Lebanon, including several terror infrastructure sites in the areas of Taybeh, Odaisseh, and Jibbain, as well as a military structure in the area of Ayta Ash Shab,” the IDF said on Telegram, alongside two videos of the airstrikes.

Since the Israeli attack on Gaza triggered by the October 7 Hamas raid, Hezbollah and the IDF have exchanged intermittent rocket fire across the Lebanese border, displacing more than 53,000 Israelis and 95,000 Lebanese.

Earlier this month, Israeli President Isaac Herzog warned that his country would soon have to do something about what he termed “terrorist aggression.”

On Tuesday, the IDF announced that it had finalized “operational plans for an offensive in Lebanon,” citing Northern Command head Major-General Ori Gordin and head of the Operations Directorate, Major-General Oded Basiuk.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Israel Katz said Israel was “very close to the moment when we will decide to change the rules of the game against Hezbollah and Lebanon.”

“In a total war, Hezbollah will be destroyed and Lebanon will be hit hard,” Katz said in a statement, responding to US calls for restraint and diplomacy.

Israel and Hezbollah fought a 34-day war in 2006, triggered by a cross-border raid into Galilee by the Shia militia. After weeks of inconclusive artillery exchanges, the IDF launched a ground offensive into Lebanon that “did not result in military gains and was not completed,” according to the Israeli commission that later compiled a report on the conflict.

The Winograd Commission criticized the government for “serious failures of the decision making process” and for not setting realistic objectives or an exit strategy. Though West Jerusalem claimed victory on that occasion, the conflict has since been widely understood as a triumph for Hezbollah.

"The evidence includes the calculation of the time to the most recent common ancestor. Hospital overloads in Wuhan. 2. Examination of human infections, animal samples, and environmental specimens from the market shows no infected animals or wildlife vendors.

3. Events from March 2019, including unusual activities by the Chinese Communist Party and the Wuhan Institute of Virology, suggest a lab-acquired infection had occurred.

4. There is no zoonotic evidence, with 96,000 animals testing negative for SARS-CoV-2 and no evidence of posterior diversity in the virus genome. Historical comparisons with SARS-CoV-1 show multiple spillover events, which are absent in SARS-CoV-2.

5. The genome of SARS-CoV-2 has eight synthetic features not found in natural viruses.

"The probability that SARS came from nature based on these features is one in a billion. These features are the backbone, the receptor binding domain, the furin cleavage site, the genetics of the furin cleavage site, the number, location, and pattern of cloning sites that use the Baric cloning method, and the [inaudible] gene..."

6. "These same features were described in a 2018 DARPA grant by WIV and U.S. scientists. With respect to the grant, SARS-2 had the proposed backbone from the proposed reason in China. In 2016, Hunter Biden was subpoenaed by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for information in its investigation of a tribal bond scheme in which several individuals were charged with violating federal securities laws.

We obtained Hunter Biden’s response, dated April 20, 2016, to the SEC subpoena.

In the letter, Hunter’s counsel wrote: “As a threshold matter, we request that you treat this matter with the highest degree of confidentiality, consistent with Commission policy and applicable law. Last October, when the wounds from the March 2023 bank failures - which surpassed the global financial crisis in total assets and which sparked the latest Fed intervention, setting the market's nadir over the past 16 months - were still fresh, we made a non-consensus prediction: we said that since the Fed has once again backstopped the US financial system, "the next bank failure will be in Japan."

This prediction only got warmer two months later when, inexplicably, Japan's Norinchukin bank, best known as Japan's CLO whale, was quietly added to the list of counterparties for the Fed's Standing Repo Facility, a/k/a the Fed's foreign bank bailout slush fund.

But if that was the first, and still distant, sign that something was very wrong at one of Japan's biggest banks (Norinchukin is Japan's 5th largest bank with $840 billion in assets) today the proverbial canary stepped on a neutron bomb inside the Japanese coalmine, because according to Nikkei, Norinchukin Bank "will sell more than 10 trillion yen ($63 billion) of its holdings of U.S. and European government bonds during the year ending March 2025 as it aims to stem its losses from bets on low-yield foreign bonds, a main cause of its deteriorating balance sheet, and lower the risks associated with holding foreign government bonds."

See, what's happened in Japan is not that different from what is happening in the US, where as the FDIC keeps reminding us quarter after quarter, US banks are still sitting on over half a trillion dollars in unrealized losses, as a result of the huge jump in interest rates which has blown up the banks' long-duration fixed income holdings, sending them trading far below par and forcing banks (and the Fed, see BTFP) to come up with creative ways of shoving these massive losses under the rug.

And while Japanese rates have barely budged - the BOJ only just raised rates for the first time in decades in April - the move is already cascading into the form of huge losses for domestic banks, which have been hammered twice as hard due to their holdings of offshore debt which until 2021 was viewed as risk free, only to blow up in everyone's face two years ago when the bull market since the early 1980s ended with a bang.

Enter Norinchukin: according to the Nikkei, the company's net loss for the year ending March 2025, which was previously forecast to top 500 billion yen, will rise to the 1.5 trillion yen level with the bond sales.

"We plan to sell low-yield [foreign] bonds in the amount of 10 trillion yen or more," Norinchukin Bank CEO Kazuto Oku told Nikkei, an amount just above $60 billion.

The bank, which previously was best known for being one of the world's most aggressive CLO investors - buys securities out of pension funds deposited by agriculture, forestry, and fisheries concerns.

Facing a problem that is very familiar to all US banks, Oku said the bank "acknowledged the need to drastically change its portfolio management" to reduce unrealized losses on its bonds, which totaled roughly 2.2 trillion yen as of the end of March. Oku explained bank's intention to shift its investments, saying, "We will reduce [sovereign] interest rate risk and diversify into assets that take on corporate and individual credit risk."

Now, if Nochu, as it is affectionately known by bankruptcy lawyers, was a US bank circa one year ago, it would not have to sell anything: it could just pledge all of its sharply depreciated bonds at the Fed's BTFP facility, and get a par value for them.

Unfortunately, Nochu is not US but Japanese, and it is not 2023 but rather 2024, when the high-rate disaster of 2023 was supposed to be over. Supposed to be... but instead it's only getting worse. Regular readers will hardly need it, but for novices Nikkei gives the following quick primer: "Interest rates in the U.S. and Europe have risen and bond prices are down. This reduced the value of high-priced (low-yielding) foreign bonds that Norinchukin purchased in the past, causing its paper losses to swell."

So faced with no other options, Nochu is doing the only thing it can: an orderly liquidation of tens of billions of securities now, when they are still liquid and carry a high price, in hopes of avoiding a disorderly liquidation and much worse, in a few months when the bond market freezes up.

And yes, the Japanese rates canary is quite, quite massive: as of the end of March, Norinchukin had approximately 23 trillion yen of foreign bonds (about $150 billion), amounting to 42% of its total 56 trillion yen of assets under management.

To get some sense of the scale, according to the Bank of Japan, outstanding foreign bonds held by depositary financial institutions amounted to 117 trillion yen as of the end of March. Norinchukin, which is a major institutional investor in Japan, holds as much as 20% of the total on its own! And those asking, yes: once Nochu begins selling, all others will have to join the club!

But why start the selling now? Because, as we warned last October when we predicted that the next bank crisis will be in Japan, the Japanese mega-bank now believes interest rate cuts in the U.S. and Europe are likely to take longer than it previously expected, it will try to significantly cut its unrealized losses by selling foreign bonds in fiscal 2024.

And so, Norinchukin plans to sell over 10 trillion yen in foreign bonds, in addition to its normal trading activities.

The rest of the story is filler: in attempt to divert attention from the 10 trillion yen elephant in the room, the Nikkei then wastes time discussing the bank's other "alternatives" to wit:

The company is now considering investment alternatives, including equities, corporate bonds, corporate loans and private equity, as well as securitized products such as corporate loan-backed securities and mortgage-backed securities. By diversifying its portfolio, it aims to prevent unrealized losses from expanding to the point where they become a concern for management. It will also try to replace some low-yielding foreign government debt with other such bonds offering higher interest rates.

What are you talking about? What diversification? Once the selling begins, the bank will be lucky if it can get even a fraction of the proceeds it hopes for (because all the other banks won't just be standing there twiddling their thumbs, as they wait to see how massively Nochu reprices the market).

The Music Just Stopped: Japan Banking Giant Norinchukin To Liquidate $63 Billion In Treasuries & European Bonds To Plug Massive Unrealized Losses

Last October, when the wounds from the March 2023 bank failures - which surpassed the global financial crisis in total assets and which sparked the latest Fed intervention, setting the market's nadir over the past 16 months - were still fresh, we made a non-consensus prediction: we said that since the Fed has once again backstopped the US financial system, "the next bank failure will be in Japan."

This prediction only got warmer two months later when, inexplicably, Japan's Norinchukin bank, best known as Japan's CLO whale, was quietly added to the list of counterparties for the Fed's Standing Repo Facility, a/k/a the Fed's foreign bank bailout slush fund.

But if that was the first, and still distant, sign that something was very wrong at one of Japan's biggest banks (Norinchukin is Japan's 5th largest bank with $840 billion in assets) today the proverbial canary stepped on a neutron bomb inside the Japanese coalmine, because according to Nikkei, Norinchukin Bank "will sell more than 10 trillion yen ($63 billion) of its holdings of U.S. and European government bonds during the year ending March 2025 as it aims to stem its losses from bets on low-yield foreign bonds, a main cause of its deteriorating balance sheet, and lower the risks associated with holding foreign government bonds."

See, what's happened in Japan is not that different from what is happening in the US, where as the FDIC keeps reminding us quarter after quarter, US banks are still sitting on over half a trillion dollars in unrealized losses, as a result of the huge jump in interest rates which has blown up the banks' long-duration fixed income holdings, sending them trading far below par and forcing banks (and the Fed, see BTFP) to come up with creative ways of shoving these massive losses under the rug.

And it's not just banks: if and when the selling begins by a bank that holds 20% of all foreign bonds in Japan, the liquidation cascade will quickly spread to Mrs Watanabe. According to the U.S. Treasury Department, Japanese investors held $1.18 trillion of U.S. government bonds as of March, the largest slice among foreign holders.

Needless to say, but the Nikkei does so anyway, "Massive sales by Norinchukin could have a sizable effect on the U.S. bond market."

And since we now know what is happening, it is only a matter of time before everyone else frontruns Norinchukin.

What happens next will be even uglier: since the bank will no longer be able to mask its fixed income losses under the guise of accounting sleight of hand, the bank's financial results for the period ending March 2025 will "deteriorate significantly as a result of the huge divestment of foreign bonds and turn paper losses into real ones." As of May, Norinchukin put its final loss at more than 500 billion yen, but this is now expected to reach the 1.5 trillion yen level.

A little more context: back in the immediate aftermath of the global financial crisis, in the year ending March 2009, Norinchukin posted a final loss of about 570 billion yen due to impairment of securitized products. The forecast loss for this fiscal year is expected to top the previous record by roughly 1 trillion yen. Nevertheless, Oku said that putting the losses on the books in the year ending next March will "improve [the bank's] finances and portfolio, thus enabling to move into the black in the period ending March 2026."

Spoiler alert: no it won't... and that's why the bank is now scrambling to share the pain with even greater fools, i.e., "investors."

According to the Nikkei, Norinchukin Bank is considering raising 1.2 trillion yen to shore up its finances. It has already started discussions with Japan Agriculture Cooperatives, one of its main investors, and others. Of course, the question of who in their right mind would lend the bank good money to plug an even bigger hole that is about to open up, is anyone's guess.

But that won't stop the bank from doing what it has to, now that it has picked the liquidation route: and once the selling flood begins, it won't end as these flashing red headlines from Bloomberg just confirmed:

There's a name for this: a firesale, but - drumroll - a "gradual" one, because that's how firesales supposedly go in Japan.

Luckily, the one thing nobody has to guess, is what happens next: as the wonderful movie Margin Call laid out so very well, once you realize that the music has stopped, you have three choices: i) be first, ii) be smarter, or iii) cheat. In the case of Japan's Norinchukin, it has decided the time has come to liquidate before everyone else. We wonder how "everyone else" will take this particular news...

The NYPD honored some of New York’s Finest at an awards ceremony Tuesday – including a Medal of Honor for the onetime “super rookie” who gunned down a career criminal who killed two other cops.

Sumit Sulan, who has since been promoted to detective, received a rousing standing ovation as NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban placed the medal around his neck for stopping cop killer Lashawn McNeil dead in his tracks during a domestic dispute call in Harlem on Jan. 21, 2022.

McNeil, 47, was shot just moments after killing hero cops Wilbert Mora and Jason Rivera.

“With Officers Mora and Rivera struck by gunfire, and the perpetrator continuing to advance to commit further violence, Officer Sulan discharged his firearm twice, striking and gravely wounding the perpetrator, preventing further incident,” Caban said at the ceremony at the NYPD Police Academy.

This is a very short, cliff notes version to summarize the overall situation, while expanding on the evidence and details in the following sections. No detail should be overlooked in this entire report, as it covers several agendas that are all converging.

Illegal immigrants have been flooding into the U.S. for years, currently costing American taxpayers over $150 billion a year to assist them with housing, food, medical needs, in-state tuition, and more. That translates to every taxpayer contributing nearly $1,000 per year for this invasion. A U.S. Department of Health and Human Services 2024 report suggests that between 2005-2019 the government spent $457.2 billion on refugees and asylees. And people wonder why their property taxes and state taxes are going through the roof. Where are all of these illegal immigrants staying? How many were trained before coming here?

Most people are aware of city buildings, hotels, sports complexes, government compounds, or shelters where migrants have been bussed to, but there has been little talk about where some of them may permanently settle in. Over 65,000 Americans have signed up to sponsor immigrants in their homes, but that doesn’t even put a dent in it. When you have millions of people who need beds, that becomes a bit tricky.

It is estimated that well over 15 million illegal immigrants are now living in the U.S. and over 75,000 Special Interest Aliens (SIAs), who pose a national security risk to the U.S., have been released into the population. However, a Yale study that assessed the number of illegal immigrants living in the U.S. between 1990 and 2016 estimated over 22 million, so the actual numbers could be well over 30 million at this point. Where are they all housed?

Many of the immigrants are single men between the age of 18-24 – college and military age – traveling alone or in small groups, and many have ditched their IDs at the border before sneaking through. How easy it would be to blend in around college campuses. How many have made it into unchecked off-campus student housing to assist with protests, chaos, or future war tactics? ...

Who to watch for in the single-family rental homes market, as far as the largest companies based on number of rental homes: Tricon Residential and Home Partners of America (parent company: Blackstone, top shareholders: Vanguard, BlackRock, Capital World Investments), Progress Residential (parent company: Pretium Partners, private company), Invitation Homes (top shareholders: Vanguard, Cohen & Steers, BlackRock), American Homes 4 Rent (AMH) (top shareholders: Vanguard, BlackRock, Norges Bank), Amherst Group( parent company: Amherst Holdings, private company), and FirstKey Homes (parent company: Cerberus Capital Management, private company). Those alone account for over 400,000 rental homes and Invitation Homes intends to buy up thousands more this year. It’s best to rent from individuals who maintain ownership of the house rather than large corporations who don’t have people’s best interest at heart.

On April 13, 2023, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced the availability of $30.3 billion for the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program for 2023, with a historic $2.9 billion (10.5 percent) increase over the prior year. Six months later, HUD expanded more rental assistance to 800,000 households across 65 metropolitan areas, including higher-rent neighborhoods, to give voucher holders a wider selection of homes to choose from.

On May 7, 2024, HUD “revitalized” the Housing Voucher Program with a new rule to reduce barriers in the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) and Project Based Voucher (PBV) programs, while also reducing regulatory burdens on Public Housing Agencies (PHAs) to rapidly increase Affordable Housing supply. HUD states that “PHAs can tie long term federal PBV rental assistance to specific units or developments rather than to a tenant and project owners can secure additional private and public financing by leveraging the PBV assistance.” They can also pair PBV assistance with manufactured housing. How much does the U.S. spend on housing vouchers? The federal government spent $67 billion on housing assistance in 2023 alone. In 2021, it spiked up to $90 billion. Whereas vouchers may be helpful to those in need, it should be noted that the underlying intention is to make people reliant on the government to one day move everyone to a universal basic income and healthcare so that choices and decisions are no longer available to individuals, and all spending and actions become monitored and controlled.

Here is a 49-page HUD document containing the complete list of all public housing authorities by name, with their 2024 prorated eligibility after offsets, for housing choice voucher contract renewals. Here are just a few samples of HUD announcements on billions of dollars going out to states in January, February, and two from May, just to provide a few reference points.

How do you work affordable housing into student housing to move everyone onto vouchers, be able to cover the cost of housing illegal immigrants, merge everyone into being reliant on the government for universal income, education, housing, and healthcare? One way is to jack up the rent at student housing facilities so high that “advocates” come in to argue their case so new policies, regulations, zoning and development, and legislation can fall into place. That’s what’s happening in real time right now on the student housing scene. Some of the largest student housing companies have been sued for inflating rent, drawing attention to this issue.

Some states have passed laws allowing community colleges to build affordable housing for students. Due to housing insecurity for college students, increasing after the plandemic, it seems many community colleges are looking to build student housing.

Under a new law in California, community colleges and churches can now bypass local zoning regulations and build affordable housing units. NBC News reported that “Rev. Zachary Hoover of faith-based group LA Voice says about 20 congregations have already expressed interest in building some 2,000 apartments on their land,” who also suggested that this needs to be done so communities won’t have to deal with encampments. That’s guaranteed money in their pockets.

States and the federal government, via taxpayer dollars, are subsidizing this massive Affordable Housing trend that includes everything from rezoning to a myriad of housing vouchers, Section 8, rental fees covered for illegal immigrants in some states, built-to-rent homes, converting shuttered schools and office buildings into affordable housing mixed-use apartments, and so on. Once you get enough people reliant on the government and plugged into the control grid, it’s all down hill from there. ...

Every Campus a Refuge (ECAR)

According to the United Nations, “resettlement campuses are the future of higher education.” ECAR, Every Campus A Refuge, was founded at Guilford College in North Carolina, by Dr. Diya Abdo, in September of 2015, after being inspired when Pope Francis called on every European parish to host one refugee family. At least, that’s how the story is told. According to ECAR’s website, they would like to see every college and university in the world partner with local refugee resettlement agencies to house refugees on campus grounds. Their website states, “the idea is that university and college campuses have everything necessary – housing, food, care, skills – to take in refugees and support them as they begin their lives in their new homes.” Essentially, they refer to them as “small cities,” which of course are loaded up with smart tech.

Guilford College and Every Campus A Refuge were invited to be part of the United Nations’ Together Campaign and its Summit held on January 9, 2018, which focused on how colleges and universities around the world can take action to aid in the global refugee crisis. Nine colleges and universities (from the U.S., the U.K., Brazil, Cyprus, Humboldt University in Germany, and the University of Science and Technology in China), along with Guilford College, signed the UN Together Campaign Action Charter pledging active support for refugees and migrants’ safety and dignity. UNICEF, UNHCR, and IOM were of course part of the panel. ECAR’s site indicates that just six months later, at the second UN Together Campaign Summit, “39 other institutions attended, sharing practices on supporting refugees and migrants with a special focus on UN Sustainable Development Goal # 16 – Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions: “Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development, provide access to justice for all and build effective, accountable and inclusive institutions at all levels.” Watch the founder of ECAR speak about how college campuses can help house and assist refugees in the short video on their page, here. In one photo they show the University of Massachusetts and Amsterdam University College on their “projects to promote SDG 16 Case Studies” slide. In another, they show the University of Pennsylvania along with universities in Greece and Spain.

The Together Initiative launched on September 19, 2016 when all 193 member states of the UN committed to strengthening the “social contract between host countries and communities, and refugees and migrants.” The goal was to run until mid 2018 when all member states were expected to adopt two Global Compacts on Refugees and Migrants.

ECAR provides a handy map (below) for colleges and universities to find their nearest refugee resettlement agency. Now, in some cases these are actual refugee families who are welcomed at the airport by a resettlement agency, temporarily housed (5-8 months) in campus houses or apartments with free rent, utilities, Wi-Fi, food, use of the facilities and support, and then moved to off campus housing. But who really determines who is going where and who is getting in? And, in the case of floods of illegal immigrants bussed into cities, who is considered a refugee?

Since its inception, ECAR has campuses actively hosting refugees, including Lafayette College, Wake Forest University, Old Dominion University, Russell Sage College, and Siena College among others, with more mobilizing to do so. ECAR has 19 colleges and universities that have formed chapters across 14 states, an additional 25 colleges and universities are interested in ECAR, and 7 colleges and universities that have not signed a licensing agreement with ECAR are also providing resettlement campuses, including Arizona State University, Eastern Michigan University, Nevada State College, and Notre Dame University. The U.S. Student Housing Market – Including Foreign Investors

In addition to Blackstone acquiring the largest student housing company in the U.S., the industry itself appears to be booming. The top five largest student housing real estate companies in the U.S. are American Campus Communities (owned by Blackstone), The Scion Group, Greystar Student Living, Cardinal Group, and Asset Living. Other big ones in the running include Landmark Properties and Harrison Street Capital. After Blackstone acquired 19 student housing properties in a joint venture with Greystar back in 2018 for $1.2 billion, on April 25, 2024 Blackstone sold them to KKR & Co Inc. for $1.64 billion. The over 10,000-bed portfolio comprises 19 student housing assets located in 14 four-year public universities across 10 states.

A lot of real estate transactions go down in the student housing market. There is a steady flow of building, acquiring, and selling taking place. One example is Harrison Street recently sold 37 student housing properties across 19 states and 31 universities to a UK company (GSA) and others in a joint venture. Back in 2018, they sold 22 properties to Canada Pension Plan Investment Board and a Singapore company. Oh yes, foreign companies are very interested in U.S. student housing real estate.

Nearly eight million students require student housing near campus in the U.S. and studies have shown they want single occupancy with all the mixed use amenities and smart features, which is a perfect fit for micro smart cities. Roughly 22% of university students live in on-campus dorms and residence halls, 23% live in off-campus student housing, and 55% choose nearby rentals.

In a 2021 National Multifamily Housing Council white paper on The Future of U.S. Student Housing Demand, they stated that one-third of Americans rent their housing and 15% live in an apartment. In regards to student housing, they stated that only 4% of the units built over the past decade were double occupancy and that it will be important to have smaller units going forward for purposes of isolating individuals if necessary. They expressed that “the ability to relocate and quarantine students will become increasingly important as the role of buildings in public health policy gains renewed emphasis and is supported by new technologies.” They also stressed the need for public-private programs to improve building quality and projected that student housing will grow from 8.5 million beds in 2020 to 9.2 million by 2031.

According to a 2023 Berkadia report, effective rent growth across the top universities rose 7.9% between August 2022 and August 2023, which is more than three times the rate of market-rate rent growth across the country.

2024 is expected to be a solid year for the student housing sector, with an average occupancy rate of 95% across the top universities, and an expected enrollment of 19.25 million students.

In January, 2023, the Student HOMES Coalition was created by higher education advocacy organizations and students from colleges and universities across California, to fight for “affordable, accessible, and abundant student housing opportunities.” They are currently advocating for four California Bills: Senate Bill 312 would allow for public colleges and universities to bypass the state’s strict environmental review process when building student housing. Assembly Bill 3116 would allow both schools and developers to get around development restrictions in order to build larger, low-income student housing. Assembly Bill 2785 would put a cap on rental application fees and receive a refund if not selected. Assembly Bill 2801 would ensure that landlords use security deposits on reasonable damages rather than upgrades when a renter moves out.

On June 6, 2024, the University of California Berkeley won a Supreme Court ruling to build new student housing at Berkeley’s 3-acre People’s Park. The $312 million housing complex will be able to accommodate 1,000 students AND up to 125 for homeless, low-income residents.

Not to state the obvious, but California has a host of programs to help illegal immigrants, aside from the sanctuary campuses, cities, and state. ...

College and University Endowments Captured

It was 1988 when hedge-fund manager Tom Steyer convinced David Swensen, Yale’s endowment manager, to invest $300 million into Steyer’s new fund, Farallon Capital, that forever changed how endowment funds were managed. Other universities began investing in private equity and real estate hedge funds. Billionaires and alumni contribute their tax-deductible donations to pump up these investments by universities who are primarily tax-exempt. Between 1990 and 2021, the average endowment value grew by 423%. The plandemic served as an opportunity to increase endowment size by 35% alone during 2021, due to the booming stock market.

Between 2018 and 2023, 49 four-year private schools of higher eduction and 16 four-year public institutions have purchased office buildings because the rate of available office buildings jumped to 24% after the plandemic, and were far more affordable to scoop up. Colleges and universities have also acquired hotels and other real estate.

Priorities shifted, and instead of higher education for students being a top priority, it became all about making a return on investment. Wall Street has been lining their pockets, billionaire donors have been calling the shots, and in the end – the students lose.

The system has been rigged for a long time. Their are countless books and reports on how higher education institutions have been utilizing their endowments to make money that benefits the donors, Wall Street, and others, while leaving little to assist the students students or their education.

Abstract: The World Health Organization declared the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic in 2020, following which a global genetic vaccination program has been rapidly implemented as a fundamental solution. However, it has been reported worldwide that the modified mRNAs encoding spike proteins and lipid nanoparticles, which are used as drug delivery systems, not only cause thrombosis and cardiovascular disorders post vaccination, but might also cause diverse diseases involving all organs and systems, including the nervous system. NGC 6188: Dragons of Ara

Do dragons fight on the altar of the sky? Although it might appear that way, these dragons are illusions made of thin gas and dust. The emission nebula NGC 6188, home to the glowing clouds, is found about 4,000 light years away near the edge of a large molecular cloud, unseen at visible wavelengths, in the southern constellation Ara (the Altar). Massive, young stars of the embedded Ara OB1 association were formed in that region only a few million years ago, sculpting the dark shapes and powering the nebular glow with stellar winds and intense ultraviolet radiation. The recent star formation itself was likely triggered by winds and supernova explosions from previous generations of massive stars, that swept up and compressed the molecular gas. This impressively detailed image spans over 2 degrees (four full Moons), corresponding to over 150 light years at the estimated distance of NGC 6188.

GOP views Mustafa Kasubhai as too radical. Would be one of few Muslim federal life-tenured judges

Senate Democrats canceled a procedural floor vote to advance Biden nominee Mustafa Kasubhai to be a judge on Oregon’s federal district court.

Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) told reporters a planned vote to invoke cloture, or end debate, on the nomination was pulled Tuesday due to attendance issues and the vote will be rescheduled “soon.” Democrats hold a 51-49 majority in the chamber.

Kasubhai, a magistrate judge for the same court, has had a prolonged path to confirmation to the US District Court for the District of Oregon. He’d be one of only a handful of Muslim Americans ever to serve as life-tenured federal judges.

Kasubhai has faced intense opposition from GOP lawmakers who’ve said that he’s too radical for the federal bench. Senate Judiciary Committee Republicans had questioned Kasubhai during his October 2023 confirmation hearing on his views regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion and guidance he created for the use of preferred pronouns and honorifics in his courtroom.

Republicans also questioned whether he was a Marxist based on his past writings, some of which date to his time as a law student.

Sen. Robert Menendez’s (D-N.J.) absence amid his bribery trial in Manhattan federal court, and the potential defection of West Virginia Democrat turned Independent Sen. Joe Manchin, have loomed as potential obstacles to confirming President Joe Biden’s most controversial judicial nominees. Manchin has said he won’t support nominees who don’t have Republican backing.

SEATTLE (AP) — The U.S. government on Tuesday acknowledged, for the first time, the harmful role it has played over the past century in building and operating dams in the Pacific Northwest — dams that devastated Native American tribes by inundating their villages and decimating salmon runs while bringing electricity, irrigation and jobs to nearby communities.

In a new report, the Biden administration said those cultural, spiritual and economic detriments continue to pain the tribes, which consider salmon part of their cultural and spiritual identity, as well as a crucial food source. The government downplayed or accepted the well-known risk to the fish in its drive for industrial development, converting the wealth of the tribes into the wealth of non-Native people, according to the report.

“The government afforded little, if any, consideration to the devastation the dams would bring to Tribal communities, including to their cultures, sacred sites, economies, and homes,” the report said. It added: “Despite decades of efforts and an enormous amount of funding attempting to mitigate these impacts, salmon stocks remain threatened or endangered and continued operation of the dams perpetuates the myriad adverse effects.”

The Interior Department’s report comes amid a $1 billion effort announced earlier this year to restore the region’s salmon runs before more become extinct — and to better partner with the tribes on the actions necessary to make that happen.

That includes increasing the production and storage of renewable energy to replace hydropower generation that would be lost if four dams on the lower Snake River are ever breached. Tribes, conservationists and even federal scientists say that would be the best hope for recovering the salmon, providing the fish with access to hundreds of miles of pristine habitat and spawning grounds in Idaho.

Wealthy philanthropists with ties to Wall Street and Silicon Valley are unbowed by a botched climate experiment to limit the amount of sunlight hitting the earth, vowing to continue bankrolling future solar geoengineering tests as temperatures catapult upward.

POLITICO contacted a dozen people or groups who funded a controversial program by the University of Washington to reflect sun rays by altering clouds. Those who responded indicated that it’s worth pushing through the public skepticism surrounding efforts to determine how to best deploy the last-ditch global warming fix — if at all.

“The Pritzker Innovation Fund believes in the importance of research that helps improve climate models and enables policymakers and the public to better understand whether climate interventions like marine cloud brightening are feasible and advisable,” Rachel Pritzker, the fund’s founder and president, said in a statement. “We will only get answers to these questions through open research that can inform science-based, democratic decision-making.”

The funders’ comments came after two high-profile experiments were shutdown following public backlash, pointing to the challenges of conducting controversial research that could result in weather disruptions or other unintended consequences. The latest experiment was derailed earlier this month when local officials in Alameda, California, rejected a request by Washington researchers to restart a test to brighten clouds from the deck of a decommissioned aircraft carrier in San Francisco Bay.

The move followed the March cancellation of another solar geoengineering project in Sweden.

The Quadrature Climate Foundation, a philanthropy associated with the hedge fund Quadrature Capital, said most of its grants are dedicated to reducing carbon emissions and removing them from the atmosphere, rather than blocking sunlight. But it will continue to support geoengineering, which accounts for less than 5 percent of its $930 million funding portfolio.

Longtime Google executive Alan Eustace, who helped fund the University of Washington’s marine cloud brightening program, declined to comment on whether he would continue to support its solar geoengeering tests. Other people or groups backing the program did not respond to requests for comment.

They include the Larsen Lam Climate Change Foundation, which was established by cryptocurrency billionaire Chris Larsen and his wife, Lyna Lam; the Kissick Family Foundation launched by the late investor John Kissick; and the Cohler Charitable Fund of former Facebook executive Matt Cohler.

The program’s other supporters are inventor Armand Neukermans, venture capitalists Chris and Crystal Sacca, and software engineer Dan Scales.

NASA Satellites Find Snow Didn’t Offset Southwest US Groundwater Loss

Record snowfall in recent years has not been enough to offset long-term drying conditions and increasing groundwater demands in the U.S. Southwest, according to a new analysis of NASA satellite data.

Declining water levels in the Great Salt Lake and Lake Mead have been testaments to a megadrought afflicting western North America since 2000.

But surface water only accounts for a fraction of the Great Basin watershed that covers most of Nevada and large portions of California, Utah, and Oregon.

Far more of the region’s water is underground. That has historically made it difficult to track the impact of droughts on the overall water content of the Great Basin.

A new look at 20 years of data from the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) series of satellites shows that the decline in groundwater in the Great Basin far exceeds stark surface water losses.

Over about the past two decades, the underground water supply in the basin has fallen by 16.5 cubic miles (68.7 cubic kilometers).

That’s roughly two-thirds as much water as the entire state of California uses in a year and about six times the total volume of water that was left in Lake Mead, the nation’s largest reservoir, at the end of 2023.

While new maps show a seasonal rise in water each spring due to melting snow from higher elevations, University of Maryland earth scientist Dorothy Hall said occasional snowy winters are unlikely to stop the dramatic water level decline that’s been underway in the U.S. Southwest.

The finding came about as Hall and colleagues studied the contribution of annual snowmelt to Great Basin water levels.

“In years like the 2022-23 winter, I expected that the record amount of snowfall would really help to replenish the groundwater supply,” Hall said.

“But overall, the decline continued.” The research was published in March 2024 in the journal Geophysical Research Letters.

“A major reason for the decline is the upstream water diversion for agriculture and households,” Hall said.

Populations in the states that rely on Great Basin water supplies have grown by 6% to 18% since 2010, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. “As the population increases, so does water use.”

Runoff, increased evaporation, and water needs of plants suffering hot, dry conditions in the region are amplifying the problem. “With the ongoing threat of drought,” Hall said, “farmers downstream often can’t get enough water.”

While measurements of the water table in the Great Basin — including the depths required to connect wells to depleted aquifers — have hinted at declining groundwater, data from the joint German DLR-NASA GRACE missions provide a clearer picture of the total loss of water supply in the region.

The original GRACE satellites, which flew from March 2002 to October 2017, and the successor GRACE–Follow On (GRACE–FO) satellites, which launched in May 2018 and are still active, track changes in Earth’s gravity due primarily to shifting water mass.

GRACE-based maps of fluctuating water levels have improved recently as the team has learned to parse more and finer details from the dataset.

“Improved spatial resolution helped in this study to distinguish the location of the mass trends in the Western U.S. roughly ten times better than prior analyses,” said Bryant Loomis, who leads GRACE data analysis at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland.

The diminishing water supplies of the U.S. Southwest could have consequences for both humans and wildlife, Hall said.

In addition to affecting municipal water supplies and limiting agricultural irrigation, “It exposes the lake beds, which often harbor toxic minerals from agricultural runoff, waste, and anything else that ends up in the lakes.”

In Utah, a century of industrial chemicals accumulated in the Great Salt Lake, along with airborne pollutants from present-day mining and oil refinement, have settled in the water.

The result is a hazardous muck that is uncovered and dried as the lake shrinks. Dust blown from dry lake beds, in turn, exacerbates air pollution in the region.

Meanwhile, shrinking lakes are putting a strain on bird populations that rely on the lakes as stopovers during migration.

According to the new findings, Hall said, “The ultimate solution will have to include wiser water management.”

Monitoring marine litter from space is now a reality

The quantity of plastic floating on the sea surface is rarely high enough to generate a detectable signal from space.

Plastics and other floating debris have to accumulate into dense patches of at least tens of metres in area to be detectable using existing satellites.

These patches of floating litter are called ‘slicks’, ‘streaks’ or ‘litter windrows’. They are often filament-shaped, resulting from the presence of convergence current lines on the sea surface.

Detecting such litter windrows is indicative of high pollution at a particular place and time. But could such scattered and short-lived patches of litter provide sufficiently useful data for global monitoring of plastic pollution?

“We didn’t know if the abundance of litter windrows was enough to draw maps, or to reveal trends over time,” notes Andrés Cózar, from the University of Cádiz, co-director of the project.

To find out ESA Discovery funded a consortium of space companies and research institutes from six countries.

Using a six-year historical series of 300 000 satellite images, the team scanned the entire Mediterranean Sea every three days, at a spatial resolution of 10 metres, on the hunt for windrows.

They relied on the multispectral imaging Sentinel-2 satellites of Europe’s Copernicus programme, which while not designed for litter detection, have a somewhat limited capability for plastic detection.

“Searching for litter aggregations of metres in size on the ocean surface is like looking for needles in a haystack,” explains Manuel Arias, from the Institute of Marine Sciences, CSIC, in Spain, the other project co-director.

Automation was what made the project possible, harnessing supercomputers and advanced search algorithms. The team found thousands of litter windrows, most more than a kilometre long – and some reaching 20 km in length.

The result was the most complete map of marine litter pollution to date.

“Litter detections with a non-specialised satellite allowed us to identify the most polluted areas and their major changes over weeks and years,” comments Andrés Cózar. “Litter is injected into the Mediterranean Sea as the rainstorms rage.”

A key element of this work has been in understanding the significance of the litter windrow structures in the context of marine monitoring, being mainly associated with land-based litter emissions in the preceding days.

This makes them especially useful for surveillance and management of the problem.

In the paper the team assess the effectiveness of action plans against marine litter around Rome, identify a pollution hotspot related to shipping through the Egypt’s Suez Canal and put forward satellite data for guiding cleanup operations in Spain’s Bay of Biscay.

Manuel Arias explains: “The tool is ready to be used in other world regions, which I am convinced will teach us much about the littering phenomenon, including identification of sources and the pathways to the ocean.”

Andrés Cózar adds: “There is still room for improvement. The sensor used in our proof was not designed to detect plastic. Detection capability would be enormously improved if we put observation technology into orbit tailored for ocean plastics.”

The ability to monitor marine litter pollution in this way also holds broader promise. The deployment of a sensor specifically dedicated to detect and identify floating objects one metre in size could also be useful for tasks such as oil spill monitoring, loss of cargo or even search and rescue at sea.

Paolo Corradi, overseeing the project for ESA Discovery, comments: “The importance of these results and the applicability of this methodology can indeed be extended in a wider sense to the monitoring and characterisation of generic floating matter accumulations.

This could be the more general target of a dedicated small satellite mission, which would collect the interest of a large scientific community, while addressing the need for large scale monitoring of marine litter pollution.”

“ESA Discovery is our funding programme to ensure our Agency is ready for tomorrow, looking into future ways we might make use of space,” comments Dietmar Pilz, ESA Director of Technology, Engineering and Quality.

“The potential detection of marine plastic litter has been a topic of interest for a number of years within ESA Discovery. I am pleased to see this work has resulted in such a landmark scientific paper, exploiting the incredible value of the data from Europe’s Copernicus satellites.”

A Russian court has sentenced a United States soldier to nearly four years in a penal colony after he was convicted of theft.

Army Staff Sgt. Gordon Black, 34, was arrested in the eastern city of Vladivostok, Russia, early last month and was charged with theft after allegedly stealing about $100 from a woman he was visiting. Black reportedly said he needed the money to pay for food and a hotel, but paid her back the next day.

Army spokeswoman Cynthia O. Smith informed Scripps News that Black was most recently stationed in South Korea and was scheduled to return home to Cavazos, Texas, while on permanent change-of-station leave. However, instead of returning to the U.S., Smith said Black traveled through China into Russia for "personal reasons."

Under existing FCC rules, foreign company ownership of US radio stations is not allowed to exceed 25% — but a filing acquired by The Post details Soros’ asking the commission to make an exception. FCC Commissioner Brendan Carr is raising an alarm that was first set off by Texas Congressman Chip Roy (R-Texas) in April.

“The FCC should not create a special Soros shortcut,” Carr told The Post this week.“When it comes to a broadcast station acquisition of this size and magnitude – hundreds of radio stations across more than 45 markets – the FCC needs to run its full and normal review process. ==“The FCC should not be skipping steps or waiving required agency processes.”

Roy had earlier written the Soros group would usually petition to get its foreign funding sources vetted by the FCC first, but that they are trying to waive that process and put it off “until sometime down the road — indicating that those foreign stakeholders will be given ‘special warrants’ in the meantime,” Roy wrote in late April. The FCC did not respond to The Post’s request for comment.

In the past two years, Soros Fund Management — a rep for which said they do not comment on ongoing transactions — has made big moves into American radio. It brokered Univision’s $60 million sale in 2022 of 18 mostly conservative Hispanic radio stations including right-wing powerhouse Radio Mambi. That same year, Soros invested another chunk of cash into the liberal podcast network Crooked Media, home of “Pod Save America.”

Audacy is the nation’s second-biggest radio network after the iHeart network with 220 stations including New York’s WFAN and 1010 WINS, as well as Los Angeles-based KROQ, according to bankruptcy filings. Sources told The Post Soros’s stake is equal to about 40% of the company’s senior debt — a massive chunk which, although not a majority, could yield effective control of the media giant when it emerges from bankruptcy.

The timing of the deal, just months before the 2024 presidential election, has raised eyebrows. One insider, noting he is a Republican, said he felt it possible Soros was buying the stake to exert influence on public opinion in leading up to the election.

“This is scary,” the source said at the time.

In June 2022, the Soros-backed Latino Media Network bought Mambí — a mainstay of Miami’s hardline anti-Communist Cuban exile community for decades — and 17 other Spanish-language radio stations from TelevisaUnivision in an estimated $60 million deal.

The newly-formed network was run by two former Democratic operatives, Stephanie Valencia and Jess Morales Rocketto, who worked on Barack Obama’s and Hillary Clinton’s political campaigns. Valencia also worked in the Obama White House.

Venezuelan-born former Radio Mambí host Lourdes Ubieta quit the station after she learned of the takeover that summer. Ironically, Ubieta now hosts a conservative Spanish-language radio show, “En Este Pais con Lourdes Ubieta,” on Radio Libre 790 on the Audacy network in Miami, created after the demise of the old Radio Mambi. Ubieta cannot comment on her current job but told The Post the Latin Media Network, which did not respond to The Post’s request for comment, essentially neutralized Radio Mambi by shutting down all the political content at the station. “They kept the name Radio Mambi but they made it all soft shows like sports and entertainment,” Ubieta told The Post. “Everything was hard-core anti-Communism politics on Radio Mambi before. That’s all gone now.”
