Five suspects acted independently from each other to prepare an assassination attempt, the Russian agency has claimed ==

Five Ukrainian intelligence agents have been detained in the Russian city of Sevastopol, Moscow’s Federal Security Service (FSB) alleged on Monday. The men were coordinating with Kiev to plot acts of sabotage and at least one assassination, the agency claimed.

The five suspects did not know each other but together formed a spy network handled by Ukraine’s civilian and military special services, the FSB alleged. The operation was busted thanks to intercepted communications, the agency added.

The FSB released multiple images related to the case, including footage of arrests and interrogations, images of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) and bomb components, and screenshots of purported communications with Ukrainian handlers.

One of the alleged agents – a former Ukrainian pilot – had been recruited by Kiev in 2018, around four years before the conflict with Moscow erupted into open hostilities, a Russian official claimed.

His main task was to identify former members of the Ukrainian military in the Crimean Peninsula, who could be turned against Russia, the FSB said. He was also allegedly in charge of a location used to store smuggled explosives before they could be recovered by other agents to make IEDs.

The materials indicate that financial incentives were key for the collaborators. One of them allegedly complained to his handler about a $60 debt that he could not pay off and demanded money for his services upfront.

The same suspect was apparently surprised by a package he was instructed to recover. He texted to his handler: “It’s huge. Is it safe?” When later questioned by Russian law enforcement, the man said he would not have taken the item to crowded places, despite assurances that it had posed no danger to him.

Another detainee, a former civilian contractor of the Ukrainian Navy, was allegedly lured into cooperating with Kiev with a promise of receiving medical treatment in Europe, the Russian official claimed. Ukraine never delivered on the supposed promise, he added.

The suspects were reportedly tasked with tracking Russian military assets and conducting reconnaissance for Kiev. However, at least one operation was an apparent attempt to assassinate a particular Russian military service member. An agent was instructed to observe the man’s car to confirm that the target used it, and later to place a magnetic bomb under it, according to the FSB.

Google Leak Reveals Thousands of Privacy Incidents

Google has accidentally collected childrens’ voice data, leaked the trips and home addresses of car pool users, and made YouTube recommendations based on users’ deleted watch history, among thousands of other employee-reported privacy incidents, according to a copy of an internal Google database which tracks six years worth of potential privacy and security issues obtained by 404 Media.

Individually the incidents, most of which have not been previously publicly reported, may only each impact a relatively small number of people, or were fixed quickly. Taken as a whole, though, the internal database shows how one of the most powerful and important companies in the world manages, and often mismanages, a staggering amount of personal, sensitive data on people's lives.

The data obtained by 404 Media includes privacy and security issues that Google’s own employees reported internally. These include issues with Google’s own products or data collection practices; vulnerabilities in third party vendors that Google uses; or mistakes made by Google staff, contractors, or other people that have impacted Google systems or data. The incidents include everything from a single errant email containing some PII, through to substantial leaks of data, right up to impending raids on Google offices. When reporting an incident, employees give the incident a priority rating, P0 being the highest, P1 being a step below that. The database contains thousands of reports over the course of six years, from 2013 to 2018.

In one 2016 case, a Google employee reported that Google Street View’s systems were transcribing and storing license plate numbers from photos. They explained that Google uses an algorithm to detect text in Street View imagery. “Unfortunately, the contents of license plates are also text and, apparently, have been transcribed in many cases,” the employee wrote. “As a result, our database of objects detected from Street View now inadvertently contains a database of geolocated license plate numbers and license plate number fragments.”

“I want to emphasize that this was an accident. The system that transcribes these pieces of text should have been avoiding imagery identified by our license plate detectors but, for reasons as-yet unknown, was not,” they added. The report says that the data has been purged.

Another incident involved the public exposure of more than one million users’ email addresses from Socratic.org, a company that Google acquired. The data was viewable in the page source of the company’s website, the report says. Geolocation information and IP addresses of users was also suspected to be available. Those impacted included children. “This exposure has been addressed as part of the closing conditions for this acquisition. However, the data was exposed for > 1yr and could already have been harvested,” the report read.

In a third, a Google speech service logged all audio, including an estimated 1,000 childrens’ speech data, for around an hour. “Estimated 1K child speech utterances was collected. Team deleted all logged speech data from the affected time period,” the report read.

In another incident, a customer of Google’s cloud product which is for government clients who need to protect sensitive data, was inadvertently transitioned to a consumer level product. “As a result of an accidental SKU migration to G Suite for Business, US data location is no longer guaranteed for this customer,” the report says.

In some cases, the reports themselves say that the issue has been fixed. After 404 Media shared the identifying codes of around 30 incidents with Google, the company said that each of them was resolved at the time.

Some other incidents marked with high priority or are otherwise notable in the database include:

A filter that was supposed to stop childrens’ voices from being collected was not correctly applied.

A person modified customer accounts on AdWords, what Google’s ad platform was named at the time, to manipulate affiliate tracking codes on ads.

The global security team warned that it was expecting a dawn raid of a Google office in Jakarta in April 2017 (a similar incident did happen in September 2016).

Waze carpool’s feature leaked the trips and home addresses of other users.

A Google employee accessed private videos in Nintendo’s YouTube account, and leaked information ahead of Ninendo’s planned announcements. An internal interview concluded the activity was “non-intentional,” the report says.

A YouTube blurring feature was exposing uncensored versions of pictures.

When iOS users of Google Drive or Docs set access controls on a file as “Anyone with the link,” Google actually treated it as a “Public” link.

YouTube videos uploaded as unlisted or private could appear publicly available for a short time.

Google told 404 Media in a statement “At Google employees can quickly flag potential product issues for review by the relevant teams. When an employee submits the flag they suggest the priority level to the reviewer. The reports obtained by 404 are from over six years ago and are examples of these flags—every one was reviewed and resolved at that time. In some cases, these employee flags turned out not to be issues at all or were issues that employees found in third party services.”

404 Media obtained the large dataset from an anonymous tipster who did not provide their real name or identity. 404 Media then verified the veracity of the dataset; Google also confirmed aspects of its contents.

A new report from 404 Media claims that multiple Nintendo leaks from 2013-18 can be tied to a Google employee who had accessed Nintendo's private YouTube videos.

The report is based on an internal Google database which has tracked "six years worth of potential privacy and security issues" including those reported by the company's own employees.

The database, which contains incidents from 2013-2018, reportedly details a case in which a Google employee had accessed several private Nintendo videos and leaked the contents of them online. According to 404 Media, an internal investigation into the report concluded that the activity was "non-intentional".

It is unclear which Nintendo announcements were affected by the leaks though, naturally, they will have fallen within the six-year range covered by the database.

The report details several other Google incidents for the time including accidentally logging children's speech data, storing licence plate information captured by the Google Street View cameras and making YouTube recommendations based on user's deleted watch history.

The full dataset was obtained by 404 by an "anonymous tipster". Google has since verified the internal report's contents, stating that all of the issues were "reviewed and resolved at that time."

JERUSALEM (AP) — Four more hostages kidnapped on Oct. 7 were declared dead by the Israeli military — including three older adults seen in a Hamas video begging to be released. Monday's announcement heightens pressure on the Israeli government to agree to a U.S. cease-fire proposal that could secure the return of the hostages still held in Gaza and end the eight-month war.

About 80 hostages in Gaza are believed to be alive, alongside the remains of 43 others. In the days since the Biden administration announced the cease-fire proposal Friday, Israel has seen some of its largest protests calling on the government to bring them home. Israeli leadership has appeared to brush aside the President Joe Biden's proposal, vowing to keep conducting military operations against Hamas until the militant group is destroyed.

All four of the men declared dead Monday night — Nadav Popplewell, Amiram Cooper, Yoram Metzger and Haim Peri — were kidnapped and taken into Gaza still alive, according to the Hostages Forum, a grassroots group representing the families of the hostages.

“It is time to end this cycle of sacrifice and neglect,” the group wrote in a statement following the announcement. “Their murder in captivity is a mark of disgrace and a sad reflection on the significance of delaying previous deals.” The group called on the government to immediately approve the new cease-fire plan.

About 100 captives were released during a weeklong exchange of hostages for Palestinian prisoners in November. Three of the men declared dead Monday had female relatives who were released during the exchange.

Israel’s military spokesman, Rear Adm. Daniel Hagari, said the four hostages were killed while they were together, during the army’s operation in Khan Younis in central Gaza. He said the four were killed months ago, but that recent operations allowed the military to gather enough intelligence to pronounce them dead. Their bodies are still being held by Hamas.

“We are checking all of the options. There are a lot of questions," he said.

Cooper, Metzger and Peri were all age 80 or older. They appeared in a video in December released by Hamas under the title, “Don’t let us grow old here.” In the video, the three men appear gaunt, wearing thin white T-shirts.

“We are the generation who built the foundation for the state of Israel,” Haim Peri says, noting that all the men have chronic illnesses. “We do not understand why we have been abandoned here.”

Hamas claimed in May that the other hostage pronounced deceased, Nadav Popplewell, died after being wounded in an Israeli airstrike, but provided no evidence. Popplewell was over 50.

Cooper was an economist and one of the founders of kibbutz Nir Oz, according to the hostages forum. Metzger helped to found the kibbutz winery and Peri built the community's art gallery and sculpture garden.

Nir Oz was among the hardest-hit towns near the border with Gaza during the Hamas attack Oct. 7, when Palestinian militants stormed Israel, killing some 1,200 people and hauling around 250 hostages back to Gaza.

The military said Monday that the decision to pronounce the men dead was based on intelligence and confirmed by health officials and Israel's chief rabbi.

The news late Monday came after an announcement earlier in the day that the body of a presumed hostage, Dolev Yehud, 35, was found in a community near the Gaza border that Hamas militants had attacked on Oct. 7. Yehud was thought to be among scores of hostages held in Gaza until Monday, when the military announced the discovery of his body and said he had been killed in the initial attack.

Israeli bombardments and ground operations in Gaza have killed more than 36,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry, which does not distinguish between combatants and civilians.

Israel has been expanding its offensive in the southern city of Rafah, once the main hub of humanitarian aid operations. The Israeli invasion of Rafah has largely cut off the flow of food, medicine and other supplies to Palestinians facing widespread hunger.

TOKYO (AP) — Toyota Chairman Akio Toyoda apologized Monday for massive cheating on certification tests for seven vehicle models as the automaker suspended production of three of them.

The wide-ranging fraudulent testing at Japan’s top automaker involved the use of inadequate or outdated data in collision tests, and incorrect testing of airbag inflation and rear-seat damage in crashes. Engine power tests were also found to have been falsified.

Toyota Motor Corp., based in Toyota city, central Japan, suspended production in the country of the Corolla Fielder, Corolla Axio and Yaris Cross. The deceptive tests were also found on discontinued models.

The company said the wrongdoing does not affect the safety of the vehicles already on roads, which include the Corolla subcompact and Lexus luxury vehicles.

“We sincerely apologize,” Toyoda told reporters, bowing deeply and holding the position for several seconds, as is customary in Japan at news conferences where companies apologize for misbehavior.

A Japanese government investigation into Toyota began in January. The issue does not affect Toyota’s overseas production.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House is telling lawmakers that President Joe Biden is preparing to sign off on an executive order that would shut down asylum requests to the U.S.-Mexico border once the number of daily encounters hits 2,500 between ports of entry, with the border reopening once that number declines to 1,500, according to several people familiar with the discussions.

The impact of the 2,500 figure means that the border could be closed to migrants seeking asylum effectively immediately, because daily figures are higher than that now.

The Democratic president is expected to unveil his actions — which mark his most aggressive unilateral move yet to control the numbers at the border — at the White House on Tuesday at an event to which border mayors have been invited.

Five people familiar with the discussions confirmed the 2,500 figure on Monday, while two of the people confirmed the 1,500 number. The figures are daily averages over the course of a week. Nigel Farage has announced he will run as Reform UK's candidate in Clacton, after previously saying he would not stand in July’s general election.

The former UKIP and Brexit Party leader said he had changed his mind after spending time on the campaign trail, adding he did not want to let his supporters down.

The Essex seat, which was the first to elect a UKIP MP in 2014, has a Conservative majority of 24,702.

Mr Farage also revealed he was taking over from Richard Tice as Reform's leader for the next five years.

After Prime Minister Rishi Sunak unexpectedly called a general election for 4 July, Mr Farage told the BBC six weeks was “not enough” to fight a constituency while campaigning for the party around the country.

In a statement on 23 May, the founder and honorary president of Reform UK had said he would “do my bit to help in the campaign”.

But he suggested his priority would be helping his friend, Donald Trump, return to the White House, describing the US election in November as having “huge global significance”.

However, Mr Farage told a news conference in central London that since talking to voters he saw "there is a rejection of the political class going on in this country in a way that has not been seen in modern times".

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed a bill into law Friday mandating that election officials bring voting services to county detention centers and jails for statewide general elections.

The statewide program is the first of its kind, as only a handful of prisons around the country currently offer in-person voting to eligible residents.

The implementation of the measure will lead to around 61 jails and detention centers across Colorado offering in-person voting for the November election, according to Jack Todd, a spokesman for the Colorado secretary of state.

While Colorado bars those serving time for felony convictions from voting, it is legal for incarcerated individuals awaiting trial or serving time for a misdemeanor to cast a ballot in the state.

State Sen. Julie Gonzales, a Democrat who sponsored the bill, said lawmakers found that those eligible voters weren't commonly voting due to logistical hurdles behind bars.

“In Colorado, we really pride ourselves on our gold star election system,” Gonzales said. “Yet we realized that there was a group of individuals who weren’t able to fully access the ballot.”

The law requires law enforcement and election officials to offer six hours of in-person voting, and services that make it possible for confined individuals to register to vote. There will also be a way for eligible voters to return mail ballots, should they prefer to cast their ballot that way. County staff will serve as poll workers, and the legislation also ensures that election officials have access to Department of Corrections data to ensure that those serving time for felony convictions cannot cast a ballot.

Restoring voting rights to the millions of Americans with felony convictions who have completed their sentences has been a popular policy proposal in recent years, but very few states have taken steps to encourage political engagement behind bars.

Voting from behind bars can be difficult, voting rights advocates have long said, though many Americans are eligible.

Federal data indicates that nearly a half million people were behind bars and awaiting trial as of mid-2022, the most recent data available. Those who are citizens and do not have a disenfranchising felony conviction on their record maintain their rights, as do many of those those serving time for misdemeanor crimes.

“One of the things that we heard from people who had previously been incarcerated was that being able to weigh in on these elections was so important for them to remember that even though they are navigating the criminal legal system, that they still are a member of a community, a citizen of Colorado, and that they still had rights and obligations,” Gonzales said.

Israel captures all points of aid access to Gaza after seizing Philadelphi Corridor

GAZA CITY, Palestine

After Israel’s announcement on Wednesday that it had taken control of the Philadelphi Corridor along the Palestine-Egypt border, the army blockade of all borders of the Gaza Strip was reinforced, and all aid entry points were captured.

This move severs Gaza's geographical connection with Egypt, enabling the Tel Aviv administration to obstruct or restrict the entry of humanitarian aid to Gaza. The region has been experiencing a major humanitarian crisis due to ongoing attacks since Oct. 7, 2023.

The most affected by this development are the 2.3 million Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip where people are already suffering from severe food, water, and medicine shortages due to Israel's restrictions, which violate international laws and the laws of war.

According to a statement from the Gaza government’s Media Office, 2.3 million Palestinians, including 2 million who have been displaced multiple times and rely on daily aid, need more than 7 million meals per day due to Israel’s "starvation" policy.

Additionally, fuel, medicine, and other vital necessities must be sent to the region to meet the needs of the displaced population.

However, Israel’s strict restrictions on aid entry and the closure of border crossings are deepening the humanitarian crisis in Palestine's besieged enclave.

Rafah border crossing seized

On May 7, the Israeli army launched a ground assault on Rafah in southern Gaza, where displaced Palestinians had taken refuge.

The army seized the Palestinian side of the Rafah Border Crossing between Gaza and Egypt, closing the crossings.

This situation made it impossible to deliver aid through Rafah or evacuate wounded people who needed treatment outside of Gaza.

Egypt declared that it would not accept "Israel's policy of fait accompli" and its imposition at the Rafah Border Crossing, and refused to coordinate with Israel.

Cairo blamed Tel Aviv for the border crossing closure and the potential consequences that would further escalate the crisis in Gaza.

Limited aid trucks enter Gaza

During a phone call on May 24, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and his American counterpart Joe Biden agreed to temporarily deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza via the Karem Abu Salem border crossing, also known in Israel as Kerem Shalom.

However, since May 24, only a limited number of aid trucks have been able to enter Gaza through the Kerem Abu Salem Border Crossing due to Israel’s strict restrictions.

The Kerem Abu Salem Border Crossing has been closed to aid entry to Gaza since May 5. During May, the crossing was opened and closed twice, with only a few dozen commercial trucks entering.

Most Gazans, however, have no income source or the ability to purchase goods from the private sector due to ongoing attacks since Oct.7.

According to the Gaza government’s Media Office, only 215 aid trucks, including 109 loaded with flour and six with medicine, managed to enter Gaza last week through a point established by the Israeli army west of Beit Lahia.

The government media office in Gaza said on Sunday that the US-built temporary pier on the coast of Gaza delivered only 100 trucks of aid in a week since operations began.

The floating dock collapsed due to weather conditions and strong waves and the US estimates that repairs will take more than a week.

Officials in Gaza and international organizations insist that there is no alternative to opening all border crossings to combat the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The government in Gaza stated that the US is trying to improve its “ugly image” with the pier.

Blockade ongoing for 18 Years

Israel’s capture of the Philadelphi Corridor, which completely blocks Gaza, strengthens the blockade that has been in place for 18 years.

After Hamas won the parliamentary elections in 2006 and took control of the Gaza Strip, Israel began imposing a blockade on Gaza, which was tightened in 2007.

Israel's blockade of Gaza includes the closure of four border crossings: Karni, Nahal Oz, Kerem Ebu Salim, and Sufa.

According to Sam Rose, director of planning for the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), humanitarian aid is only a few kilometers from Gaza's border, but Palestinians are on the verge of famine.

Rose highlighted the difficulties encountered in delivering aid to Gaza due to restrictions and arbitrary inspections imposed by Israeli authorities, calling the international community to put pressure on Israel to allow aid trucks to enter Gaza through known borders such as Rafah and Kerem Abu Salem, as well as to reopen the al-Mintar, al-Shuja'iya, and Beit Hanoun borders.

On June 2, both Russian and Ukrainian military sources reported a massive attack of Ukrainian small FPV drones on Russian military column in the Russian border Kursk region. On June 3, the Ukrainian military confirmed the successful attack with numerous videos filmed by the UAVs.

The column of at least 14 military trucks with supplies was destroyed by drone strikes near the town of Sudzha in the Kursk region near Ukrainian border. The footage confirmed that the column was first paralyzed by the strikes on the leading vehicles. Then, the last trucks came under the attack. Russian forces attempted to scatter the trucks around and hide them in the forest plantation near the road, where some of them were reached by Ukrainian drones.

According to Russian military sources, the Russian military personnel only suffered losses in several wounded servicemen.

The transfer of military equipment in large columns was one of the main reasons for Russia’s losses at the very beginning of the Special Military Operation in Ukraine, when the Russian military was ambushed and destroyed on the Ukrainian roads. The Russian military command has already accumulated a lot of experience in years of full-fledged military operations in Ukraine, but there are still losses incurred due to negligence.

Well, well, well. It shouldn't surprise me, but it still kinda does. After losing half its readers and hundreds of millions of dollars, the Bezos-owned newspaper is radically shifting strategies. Sally Buzbee, the author of this absolute disaster, no doubt left under her own steam to spend more time with her family or something similarly false and anodyne-sounding. It certainly had nothing to do with the wreckage of a once-great and respected news outlet. Investigation data showed that after the escalation of the armed conflict in Ukraine, the number of accusations that Ukrainian organisations were involved in the abduction of children increased.

The publication emphasises that the Olena Zelenska Foundation is a key player in the illegal trafficking and abduction of children from Ukraine. Minors are transported to such countries as the UK, Germany and France, where they are sold to foster families or handed over to paedophiles and child molesters, according to the Foundation for Combating Repression.

Earlier, a report by the international human rights organisation Arte said that at least one child out of 10 victims of human trafficking in the world came from Ukraine.

European Commission president accused of Complicity in Israel’s War Crimes at ICC

The Geneva International Peace Research Institute (GIPRI) has accused the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, of complicity in war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by Israel against Palestinians in Gaza.

The complaint was filed by GIPRI against the European Commission head at the International Criminal Court (ICC) on 22 May.

The complaint, supported by various human rights groups and prominent scholars and experts in international criminal law, urges the ICC prosecutor to initiate investigations based on the information provided against von der Leyen.

“Reasonable grounds exist to believe that the unconditional support of the President of the European Commission to Israel - military, economic, diplomatic and political – has enabled war crimes and the ongoing genocide in Gaza,” the complaint read.

A former UN independent expert, Alfred de Zayas, published a personal statement stressing that von der Leyen, in her capacity as president of the Commission, had an effective role in accessing the military support provided by the European Union to the Israeli army.

He stated that von der Leyen did not impose economic and military sanctions on Israel, and made many statements containing information about providing diplomatic support to Israel.

Von der Leyen is facing criticism for adopting an “extreme pro-Israel position” and her unconditional support for Israel since October 2023.

She made a solidarity visit to Israel six days after Israel launched its violent attacks on Gaza, and expressed the European Union’s unconditional support for Tel Aviv. During her contacts with Israeli officials, von der Leyen did not mention the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza due to the targeting of civilians and infrastructure.

On 20 October, EU staff wrote a joint letter urging von der Leyen to call for a ceasefire and protect civilian lives rather than support Israel unconditionally.

In February, European Union foreign policy official Josep Borrell said: “With her visit to Israel in late 2023, von der Leyen represents only herself in terms of international politics, and has left a huge geopolitical cost for Europe.”

Former MIT associate professor Jeremy England, an ordained rabbi, wrote in Tablet Magazine that Jews need to fully reject any "lingering" sense of Christian morality and embrace ethnically cleansing Gaza in accordance with Talmudic law.

In an article last week titled "Live by the Law or Die on the Cross," England said that "Israel must stop pretending it is a nation like any other."

"[W]e should conquer, annex, and resettle parts of Gaza so that Jews and friendly gentiles both can live there safely," England said.

"If our own, unsurpassably subtle ethical tradition guides us to these policies, then it is only our lingering ideological subjugation to the Western tradition that makes them seem scandalous," he continued. "Like the Jew among nations, Israel constantly struggles with its half-successful attempt to blend in with the crowd and pretend to be a member like any other, and it is time to put an end to this paralyzing charade."

"We did not stick to our Law through 3,000 years of human civilization to continue national life as the perpetual defendant," England added. "It is our job to know that Law, to teach what we know—and, most of all, to live by it."

He backed up these assertions by suggesting Israel is justified in killing children because Hamas holds up children as shields "while firing."

He also said "the concept of the innocent civilian" is Christian and un-Jewish, citing a passage from the Talmud stating "it is correct to kill even the righteous among your enemy."

England wrote:

What would Jesus do if a Hamas fighter held a Gazan Arab child up as a shield while firing? Hard to say for sure, but anyone who argues that a properly humane response is to die rather than to try to shoot around the child has ample basis in Christianity. The image of the Crucifixion may mean many things, but part of what it means is that accepting corporeal defeat in this world can be a path to God-like virtue and spiritual victory in the world of tomorrow. You will not hear Jesus mentioned when Western leaders speak on how important it is that Israel adhere to international laws of war, but the concept of the innocent civilian enshrined in these laws grew practically out of wars fought within Christendom during the last several hundred years.

More importantly, the very idea of the innocent civilian makes sense in an explicitly Christian context: "Render unto Caesar" plus the idea of a universal community of faith that transcends nationality means the conscience of the individual is paramount, and a person cannot so easily be classed as a targetable enemy "just because" of his membership in some nation waging war.

The contrast with the Jewish perspective here is sharp.

One particular Talmudic-era commentary comes to mind. Everyone knows that Pharaoh and his army were on horses as they chased Moses and the Israelites seaward. But it took the genius of Shimon ben Yochai, the sage, to ask where the horses came from. A plague of hail had killed off all the livestock in Egypt, other than that which belonged to upright individuals who held the Lord in awe. What this means, then, is that Pharaoh got his horses from the upright individuals. Ben Yochai concludes: [In times of war], it is correct to kill even the righteous among your enemy (Mekhilta 14:7).

This is a wince-inducingly Judaic—and very unchristian—position.

Prices are also being buoyed by predictions of a global push for renewable energy and electric vehicles, as well as more data centers to support the development of artificial intelligence, all of which will require copper. Industry sources and analysts say the market has been tight in North America and Europe, partly due to demand from the renewable energy industry and electric vehicle manufacturers. In terms of supply, the LME barred the trading of newly smelted Russian copper in April. Miners have struggled to meet production targets and bring on new projects onstream, such as with the Cobre Panama mine, which halted operations due to protests in the Central American country over environmental damage and land sales to foreign companies. But overall, "The push higher in prices has been predominately speculative," according to Eleni Joannides, research director for copper at Wood Mackenzie. Investors have shifted their attention to commodities with the outlook for equities dimming as U.S. interest rates stay high. WASHINGTON — A federal judge repeatedly admonished a New York chimney repairman for his contemptuous behavior and “utter lack of remorse” Thursday before sentencing him to just over three years in prison for obstructing the joint session of Congress on Jan. 6, 2021.

Brandon Fellows, 29, of Schenectady, was convicted in August of one felony count of obstruction of an official proceeding and four misdemeanors for his role in the Capitol riot. At trial, prosecutors showed Fellows entering the U.S. Capitol through a broken window and then proceeding to Sen. Jeff Merkley’s (D-OR) office, where he smoked marijuana. Fellows then joined rioters in the Crypt before heckling officers who didn’t have helmets on his way out of the building. Prosecutors said Fellows then posted extensively on social media, “glorifying the violence of his fellow rioters.”

Fellows was initially granted pretrial release but had his bond revoked after multiple violations, including calling the mother of his probation officer. His defiant behavior continued following his rearrest. Fellows fired multiple attorneys and ultimately chose to represent himself – including during a disastrous bond review hearing in which he appeared to admit to illegally attempting to get judges removed from cases in D.C. and New York. In addition to his conviction at trial, Fellows was also found in criminal contempt of court for repeated outbursts, including calling the proceeding a “kangaroo court” and a “nazi court.”

Early life and education

Williams was born in Brooklyn, New York City, and raised in the Atlanta metropolitan area, the son of Jamaican immigrants.[3] His parents are divorced.[2] He attended Woodward Academy for high school where he was student body president in his final year.[2] He received a Bachelor of Artsin economics from Harvard Universityin 2002 and a Master of Philosophy in international relations from Emmanuel College, Cambridge in 2003, where he was awarded the Lionel de Jersey Harvard Scholarship in 2002.[1][4]Afterward,Williams worked for John Kerry's 2004 presidential campaign in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and South Carolina and as a "body man" for the chairman of the Democratic National Committee, Terry McAuliffe.[2]He then enrolled at Yale Law School. Following his first year of law school, Williams clerked for the office of United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York. He obtained a Juris Doctorfrom Yale in 2007,[5]where he was supported by The Paul & Daisy Soros Fellowshipsfor New Americans and was also an editor of the Yale Law Journal.[6] One of his essays about improving voting rights after Hurricane Katrina was published in the Yale Law Journal in 2007.[2][7]

Career

Williams began his legal career as a law clerk to Judge Merrick Garlandof the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit from 2007 to 2008. He then served as a law clerk for Justice John Paul Stevens of the United States Supreme Courtfrom 2008 to 2009. From 2009 to 2012, he was a litigation associate at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison. From 2012 to 2021, he served as an assistant United States attorney in the United States Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York. In the role, he served as a chief of the securities and commodities fraud task force from 2018 to 2021.[5]

In 2018, Williams helped secure the conviction of Sheldon Silver, the former speaker of the New York State Assembly.[8]

U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York

In March 2021, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer recommended Williamsto be the next U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York.[3] On August 10, 2021,President Joe Bidennominated Williams to serve in the role.[8][9]

On September 30, 2021, his nomination was reported out of committee by voice vote.[10] On October 5, 2021, Williams was confirmed in the Senate by voice vote.[2][11] He became the first African-American U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York and, as of October 2021, was one of seven African-Americans among 232 assistant U.S. attorneys and executives in the district.[2][12][13] He was sworn into office on October 10, 2021.[14] Upon his confirmation, Williams wasslated to oversee cases including the trial of Jeffrey Epstein associate GhislaineMaxwell and the case of Sayfullo Habibullaevic Saipov, who was charged with committing the 2017 New York City truck attack.[8]

Williams oversaw the indictment of Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin, who resigned after being arrested on federal bribery charges.[15]

On December 13, 2022, his officeindicted Sam Bankman-Fried,ex-CEO of FTX, on eight counts of fraud and conspiracy.[16] On March 23, 2023, his office also indicted Do Kwon, co-founder of TerraUSD upon his arrest at the Podgorica Airport in Montenegro, on eight counts of fraud and conspiracy. [17] On November 2, 2023, Bankman-Fried was found guilty of the seven counts that went to the jury.[18]

On January 6, 2023, his office announced that Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Jennifer Shah was sentenced by United States District Judge Sidney H. Stein to 78 months in prison for running a nationwide telemarketing fraud scheme. Shah previously pled guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud in connection with telemarketing.[19]

On September 22, 2023,=Williams announced the indictment of Senator Bob Menendez of New Jerseyon bribery charges.[20]

The sheriff of a California county is splitting with his state’s predominant political party and says he’ll vote for Republican Donald Trump in November, slamming Democrat bail reform policies letting criminals out of jail.

In an Instagram post over the weekend, Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco blasted the catch-and-release of criminals leading to them being recycled back into neighborhoods, effectively countering his efforts to keep communities safe.

Bianco said he’s “getting tired” of the lax crime policies and decided he’s “gonna change teams,” going on to ask others to join him.

“I think it’s time that, instead of letting them out of jail and giving them alcohol and drugs and everything else, I think it’s time we put a felon in the White House,” Sheriff Bianco said, adding, “Trump 2024, baby. Let’s save this country and make America great again.”

Hello, California Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco. You know for the past 30 years, I’ve been doing everything I could to keep our community safe by arresting criminals and putting them in jail and putting them in prison, keeping them out of our neighborhoods for the last five years. I’ve been very critical about our governor for slashing our budgets from corrections, for letting prisoners out early, for closing our prisons. I’ve been critical of our state legislature for passing laws to make it harder to put people in prison. I’ve been critical for their changing laws that let prisoners out early, and I’ve been critical for our attorney general for seemingly not caring about crime and really being an embarrassment to law enforcement.

And this love affair that our governor and our state legislature have with criminals is based on the belief that criminals are not responsible for their own actions. Law enforcement, apparently if you listen to our governor, is systemically racist. If you listen to our legislature, our laws are systemically racist, our judicial system is systemically racist. All of these people that are being put in jail, or because of law enforcement bias, and DA bias, and all of these things. And so they let them out, they give them food. They give them housing. They give them money, they give them drugs and alcohol now.

And, I got to be honest, I’m getting tired. I’m getting tired and I’m wondering if I’m having a change of heart and deciding that, ‘You know what? Maybe I’ve been wrong.’

And I think I’m gonna change teams. I know it’s gonna make some of you angry. I know that you’re gonna be mad at me, but I’m gonna change teams. I think they’re onto something, but I don’t think they’re doing enough. I think that we need to go big. You know me, go big or go home. You’re the biggest, you do the best. You’re the best at everything, and you might as well do something right if you’re gonna do it. And I’m all in. And I hope that you’re all with me. I hope that you all have this change of heart. Once we realized that the virus was not spread by droplets did you feel an indication to go back to the CDC and base this on science?

This six foot rule crippled American businesses. It allowed students to stay at home and not learn. Americans suffered and that suffering continued because of the fracture of trust in American scientists continue to this day.

That mistrust continues to this day.

Were you dialoguing with the CDC?

And you didn't feel an obligation to go to them and say look Americans aren't going to trust us? We are providing them with misinformation.

And you didn't feel as a lead scientist at the NIH an obligation to challenge that?

Publicly you challenged them on this regard?

Vice President Kamala Harris and US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan will go to Switzerland instead

US President Joe Biden has chosen not to cancel a scheduled Hollywood fundraiser and will be sending Vice President Kamala Harris and National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan to the Ukraine “peace summit” in Switzerland instead.

The international conference proposed by Vladimir Zelensky is intended to drum up support for Kiev’s demands regarding the conflict with Russia. Moscow has not been invited, however, while Beijing has declined to participate.

“Vice President Kamala Harris will travel to Lucerne, Switzerland on June 15 to participate in the Summit on Peace in Ukraine,” her spokesperson Kirsten Allen said on Monday, adding that this “will underscore the Biden-Harris Administration’s commitment to supporting Ukraine’s effort to secure a just and lasting peace.”

Allen also confirmed that Sullivan will be joining Harris at the conference, scheduled to take place at the Burgenstock resort.

Biden’s travel itinerary had him scheduled to visit Europe later this week, to attend the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings in France and “part of” the G7 summit, scheduled for June 13-15 in the south of Italy. This has given rise to speculation that he could “stop by” Switzerland or have Zelensky come to him.

NEW YORK (Reuters) – A prominent 91-year-old psychiatrist who was once close friends with Jeffrey Epstein was sued on Monday by a onetime model who said he enabled the late financier’s sex trafficking, and turned her into his “modern-day sex slave.”

In a complaint filed in Manhattan federal court, the plaintiff, using a pseudonym Jane Doe 11, said Henry Jarecki raped her repeatedly starting in 2011, after Epstein referred her for mental health treatment following his own sexual abuses.

Doe also said Jarecki was Epstein’s “go-to” doctor for treating young women experiencing depression, shared victims’ confidential medical information with Epstein, and shielded Epstein from law enforcement.

“The allegations will be shown to be entirely false and baseless,” said Sarita Kedia, a lawyer for Jarecki. “Dr. Jarecki never engaged in any abusive conduct with the complainant or any other person.”

The surprise Sunday night exit of Washington Post Executive Editor Sally Buzbee led to a “contentious” Monday staff meeting and a statement of concern from the paper’s union over the apparent new direction of the storied publication.

The Washington Post Guild put out a statement on Monday, saying, “We’re troubled by the sudden departure of our executive editor Sally Buzbee and the suggestion from our Publisher & CEO Will Lewis that the financial issues plaguing our company span from the work of us as journalists instead of mismanagement from our leadership. We are also concerned about the lack of diversity at the top levels of the organization, especially as The Post seeks to reach new audiences while continuing to cover the most pressing issues in the nation and the world.”

Matt Murray, former editor-in-chief of the Wall Street Journal, will take Buzbee’s place running the paper – just three years after she stepped in to replace legendary editor Marty Baron.

Lewis addressed the changes and noted that the Post has been hemorrhaging cash in recent years, including some $77 million last year, which led to some 13% of the staff being laid off during 2023. “We are going to turn this thing around, but let’s not sugarcoat it: it needs turning around,” Lewis reportedly told staffers. “We are losing large amounts of money. Your audience is halved. People are not reading your stuff. I can’t sugarcoat it anymore.”

The Post itself also reported on the Monday morning staff meeting, writing that it “turned contentious as staff members pressed Lewis about Buzbee’s departure and his plans to spin off portions of The Post’s journalism into a new division.”
