A new study from S&P Global Commodity Insights shows that Trudeau’s emissions cap will cost Canadians hundreds of billions in lost revenue and kill tens of thousands of jobs.
According to the economic impact assessment, which was commissioned by the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers, if left to run its own course and if the government allowed the sector to grow to just an 8% increase in production, the Canadian oil and gas sector would deliver $1.3 trillion in GDP contributions and support 383,000 Canadian jobs by 2035 annually.
Unfortunately, under the current federal government, the complete opposite is happening—the sector is being suffocated.
While the Trudeau government has said the emissions cap is simply a reduction in emissions, not necessarily a reduction in oil and gas production, that’s exactly what it entails, and economists have taken note of the havoc this will reap in the Canadian economy.
According to the study, the Trudeau government’s 40% emissions cap by 2030 will lead to a one million boe/d lower production in 2030 and a two million boe/d reduction following the 55% mandated emissions reduction by 2035.
In terms of impact, this will result in a $247 billion lower GDP contribution between the present and 2035 compared to the industry’s current trajectory, as well as scaring off $75 billion in potential investment.
And as for jobs, 51,000 will be killed in the process as the oil and gas sector reels.

The head of the British Columbia Assembly of First Nations is suggesting the bodies of residential school victims in his province may never be found — because they were incinerated.
Speaking on City News in Vancouver, Regional Chief Terry Teegee said he’s not sure the exact number of victims will ever be known due to a lack of proper record keeping by school authorities and provincial governments.
When asked how many potential graveyards there could be in BC, Teegee demurred.
“The potential? I’m not sure,” he says. “At the same time, some of these residential schools or institutions had incinerators so there could be any potential of finding any remains.”
His remarks were prefaced in the context of demanding “accurate” records from the Catholic Church and other institutions.
Teegee has been an outspoken critic of what he calls ‘residential school denialism’ and actively protested the wife of former Quesnel mayor Ron Paull for distributing copies of Grave Error: How the Media Misled Us (and the Truth about Residential Schools).

An audit by Shared Services Canada found the number of dormant taxpayer-funded federal phones jumped by 65% during covid work rules.
The drastic jump of the number of phones unused for three or more months occurred between March 2020 and March 2023.
The audit, Evaluation Of Mobile Devices And Fixes Lines noted, “At the same time the service plan fees for these unused phones cost hundreds of thousands of dollars per month totaling $5.9 million in 2021 and $3 million in 2022. The average monthly cost of unused phone service plans was $253,832."

Additionally, investors from four other countries—Netherlands (12 percent), Italy (6 percent), the United Kingdom (6 percent), and Germany (5 percent)—together possess another 13 million acres, accounting for 29 percent of all foreign-held land in the U.S.
The remaining 38 percent, or 17.1 million acres, are owned by various other countries. For instance, China owns 346,915 acres, representing just under 1 percent of the foreign-held acres.

Two men arrested in “dangerous scheme” to smuggle people from B.C. across U.S. border

Two men have been charged in a human smuggling case that the U.S. Department of Justice has called a “dangerous scheme” to traffic people from British Columbia into the United States via freight trains.
Jesus Ortiz-Plata, 45, of Oregon and 35-year-old Juan Pablo Cuellar Medina of Washington were arrested last week and face charges of human smuggling. Three other non-citizens were also arrested after allegedly being smuggled out of B.C. into the U.S.
Washington State prosecutor Tessa Gorman called it “an extremely dangerous smuggling scheme,” according to the Vancouver Sun.
The two are also suspected to have been involved in a case last August that saw 29 people rescued from a freight car filled with plastic pellets.
According to an affidavit filed by a U.S. Homeland Security officer, 28 of those rescued were Mexican nationals and one was Colombian.
They were discovered after border officers noticed anomalies while conducting an X-ray scan of one of the freight cars. Continue...

The ousted chemist has been fined $8,500, along with $2,500 in fees, for equating vaccinations to crimes against humanity in posts online.
A university professor from Quebec who compared vaccinations to crimes against humanity was removed from the province's order of chemists for one year.
“The respondent's comments in his publications [...] lack moderation and objectivity and are inappropriate and dangerous for the public,” was the conclusion reached by the disciplinary council of the Order of Chemists of Quebec.
Christian Linard, a professor in the chiropractic department at the University of Quebec at Trois-Rivieres (UQTR) was found to have shared several anti-vaccine posts, including some from before the COVID-19 pandemic about vaccines against measles, hepatitis B, or meningitis.
“Vaccines and crimes against humanity!” he posted in March 2019.
An immunologist was brought to court to pick apart his posts and concluded that they lacked “rigour” and could “mislead the public.”
Linard was found guilty in July 2023 of 11 disciplinary charges. Continue...

A spokesperson from the City of Toronto said the recently unveiled 2,000-foot Rainbow Road didn’t cost the city anything — because taxpayer-funded organizations paid for it.
