Each of these galaxies houses billions of stars - just as our own Milky Way Galaxy does. Although nearby when compared to most other clusters, light from the Coma Cluster still takes hundreds of millions of years to reach us. In fact, the Coma Cluster is so big it takes light millions of years just to go from one side to the other. Most galaxies in Coma and other clusters are ellipticals, while most galaxies outside of clusters are spirals. The nature of Coma's X-ray emission is still being investigated.

LONDON/TORONTO (Reuters) - Executives from Canadian miner First Quantum Minerals met with Chinese government officials last week to discuss funding and business options involving top investor Jiangxi Copper Co, three sources with knowledge of the matter said.
The talks in Jiangxi province included topics such as the potential for state-run Jiangxi Copper, China's leading producer, to gain influence on First Quantum's board decisions, two of the sources said. Also discussed was the future of First Quantum's Zambian assets and the prospect of Jiangxi buying its disputed copper concentrates inventory from Panama, they said.
Since November last year, Jiangxi has invested about $745 million in First Quantum through debt, equity and a prepayment copper deal. Still, despite being one of the biggest shareholders, Jiangxi does not have any say in board decisions.
Under a standstill agreement, Jiangxi is prevented from buying more than a 20% equity stake in First Quantum. It currently holds 18.4%.

ESA, NASA Solar Observatory Discovers Its 5,000th Comet

On March 25, 2024, a citizen scientist in the Czech Republic spotted a comet in an image from the Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) spacecraft, which has now been confirmed to be the 5,000th comet discovered using SOHO data. SOHO has achieved this milestone over 28 years in space, even though it was never designed to be a comet hunter.
The comet is a small body made of ice and rock that takes only a few years to orbit the Sun. It belongs to the “Marsden group” of comets. This group is thought to be related to comet 96P/Machholz (which SOHO observes when Machholz passes near the Sun every 5.3 years) and is named for the late scientist Brian Marsden who first recognized the group using SOHO observations. Only about 75 of the 5,000 comets discovered with SOHO belong to the Marsden group.
A joint mission of ESA (European Space Agency) and NASA, SOHO launched in December 1995 to study the Sun and the dynamics in its outer atmosphere, called the corona. A science instrument on SOHO, called the Large Angle and Spectrometric Coronagraph (LASCO), uses an artificial disk to block the blinding light of the Sun so scientists can study the corona and environment immediately around the Sun.
This also allows SOHO to do something many other spacecraft cannot – see comets flying close to the Sun, known as “sungrazing” comets or “sungrazers.” Many of these comets only brighten when they’re too close to the Sun for other observatories to see and would otherwise go undetected, lost in the bright glare of our star. While scientists expected SOHO to serendipitously find some comets during its mission, the spacecraft’s ability to spot them has made it the most prolific comet-finder in history – discovering more than half of the comets known today.
In fact, soon after SOHO launched, people around the world began spotting so many comets in its images that mission scientists needed a way to keep track of them all. In the early 2000s, they launched the NASA-funded Sungrazer Project that allows anyone to report comets they find in SOHO images.
SOHO’s 5,000th comet was found by Hanjie Tan, a Sungrazer Project participant who is originally from Guangzhou, China, and is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in astronomy in Prague, Czech Republic. Tan has been participating in the Sungrazer Project since he was 13 years old and is one of the project’s youngest comet discoverers.
“Since 2009, I've discovered over 200 comets,” Tan said. “I got into the Sungrazer Project because I love looking for comets. It's really exciting to be the first to see comets get bright near the Sun after they've been traveling through space for thousands of years.”
Most of the 5,000 comets discovered using SOHO have been found with the help of an international cadre of volunteer comet hunters – many with no formal scientific training – participating in the Sungrazer Project.
“Prior to the launch of the SOHO mission and the Sungrazer Project, there were only a couple dozen sungrazing comets on record – that’s all we knew existed,” said Karl Battams, a space scientist at the U.S. Naval Research Lab in Washington, D.C., and the principal investigator for the Sungrazer Project. “The fact that we’ve finally reached this milestone – 5,000 comets – is just unbelievable to me.”
The vast number of comets discovered using SOHO has allowed scientists to learn more about sungrazing comets and groups of comets that orbit the Sun. Comets discovered by the Sungrazer Project have also helped scientists learn more about the Sun, by watching the comets plunge through our star’s atmosphere like small solar probes.
“The statistics of 5,000 comets, and looking at their orbits and trajectories through space, is a super unique dataset – it’s really valuable science,” Battams said. “It’s a testament to the countless hours the project participants have put into this. We absolutely would never had reached this milestone if it wasn’t for what the project volunteers have done.”

REDSTONE ARSENAL — Active-duty soldiers can compete to join the ranks of an elite Army group comprising 19 astronauts and payload specialists who have been selected since 1978 to serve at NASA.
The Army will convene a candidate board to select soldiers for nomination to NASA. Although Army astronauts have historically been commissioned officers, the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command’s NASA Detachment encourages any active-duty soldier who meets the basic requirements to apply, regardless of rank or military occupational specialty.
“There is absolutely no impediment to a junior-enlisted Soldier, non-commissioned officer, or warrant officer applying to become an Army astronaut, so long as they can meet NASA and the Army’s education and other requirements,” said Lt. Col. Nicholas Holtz, executive officer of the NASA Detachment.
If selected by NASA and the Army, astronaut candidates will undergo a rigorous two-year program to prepare them for spaceflight. They will be assigned to the NASA Detachment at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. Commissioned officers will also become FA-40C space operations officers.
“Soldiers bring a unique and highly valued skillset to the astronaut office,” said Col. Anne McClain, an Army astronaut and commander of the NASA Detachment. “Army astronauts provide Army space expertise and leadership to low-earth orbit and lunar spaceflight missions, NASA programs of record and deep space exploration initiatives. This is why it is important to reach the greatest number of potential astronaut candidates within our ranks for NASA’s next astronaut class.”
The application process to become an astronaut candidate is strict. All applicants, military or civilian, must apply directly to NASA, per their announcement via www.usajobs.gov. Basic eligibility criteria for all astronauts can be found at www.nasa.gov/astronauts/.
Active-duty soldiers must also submit their applications to the Army Astronaut Candidate Board through the Army/NASA astronaut liaison, Keira Hardy (keira.d.hardy.civ@army.mil). Those applications must include copies of the resume submitted to usajobs.gov, current Soldier Talent Profile, the soldier’s last Army Combat Fitness Test card, and their last two evaluation reports (or counseling statements for E-4 and below).
Applicants may also submit any other evaluation report that covers pertinent experience they would like to highlight, such as significant leadership time, time in combat, etc. The board will not accept letters of recommendation.
“It’s vitally important that Soldiers interested in applying to become an Army astronaut thoroughly review and comply with NASA’s requirements, as well as the Army’s military personnel message to have their applications in order and submitted before the April 2 deadline,” said Keira Hardy, Army astronaut liaison at the Johnson Space Center. “Both the Army and NASA have very specific guidelines for applicants, and failure to meet those guidelines could be the difference between being considered or eliminated right from the start.”
For further information on Army-specific requirements, see MILPER message 24-072. Deadline for applying is April 2 although soldiers are encouraged to submit applications as soon as feasible.
Soldiers currently serving in the Army Reserve or Army National Guard who are interested in applying are encouraged to engage with their chain of command about their application and potential selection.

Tucker Carlson interviews his friend Tulsi Gabbard. Those who remember Tucker Carlson’s term on Fox News will remember Gabbard as a frequent guest of his on the show.Within this interview it is easy to spot the “as you well know” aspect to the length and depth of their friendship.
Tulsi Gabbard was former Vice-Chair of the DNC and a strong supporter and advocate for Bernie Sanders in the 2016 Democrat presidential primary. Within the interview, Tucker emphasizes the possibility of Gabbard as a selection for a Donald Trump running mate. In fact, the topic is so frequent within the interview, it appears the primary purpose of the interview itself is to strengthen Gabbard as a VP possibility.
The interview has the feeling of intent within it; a feeling of script; perhaps, a feeling of a pantomime playing out in the form of an interview. The emphasis for Gabbard’s value is shaped in the interview narrative that ‘foreign policy’ would be her benefit to President Trump. However, as noted by the experience of the first term of President Trump, and as noted within the outcomes of that term, Trump’s foreign policy is quite good with him at the helm of it. WATCH:

The Manhattan district attorney, Alvin L. Bragg, is hiring a former senior Justice Department official with a history of taking on Donald J. Trump and his family business as the office seeks to ramp up its investigation into the former president.
The official, Matthew Colangelo, who before he became a top official at the Justice Department led the New York attorney general’s civil inquiry into Mr. Trump, is likely to become one of the leaders of the district attorney’s criminal inquiry into the former president.
The hire marks the latest turn in a long-running investigation that has proceeded in fits and starts in recent years. When Mr. Bragg took office in January, his predecessor, Cyrus R. Vance Jr., had directed prosecutors to begin presenting evidence about Mr. Trump’s inflation of his assets to a grand jury.
But Mr. Bragg grew concerned about the strength of the case. In February, when he told the two senior prosecutors leading the investigation, Mark F. Pomerantz and Carey Dunne, that he was not prepared to authorize charges, they resigned, clouding the future of the inquiry.
Mr. Bragg insisted that it was continuing, and in recent months, his prosecutors, led by the office’s head of investigations, Susan Hoffinger, have renewed their focus on a hush-money payment to a porn star who said she had an affair with Mr. Trump.
Mr. Colangelo’s work in the New York attorney general’s office may also be relevant in his new job: Manhattan prosecutors have also scrutinized whether the former president illegally inflated the value of his assets, and the New York attorney general, Letitia James, looked at the same practices. In September, she filed a lawsuit accusing the former president of overvaluing his assets by billions of dollars.
By then, Mr. Colangelo was working at the Department of Justice, having been appointed as acting associate attorney general when President Biden took office. In that job, the third highest-ranking at the department, Mr. Colangelo helped oversee the Civil, Civil Rights, Antitrust and Tax divisions, among others.
He stepped aside when a permanent associate attorney general, Vanita Gupta, was appointed but continued working as her deputy and supervised lawyers in those divisions.
Mr. Colangelo, 48, who also worked in the Obama administration as a senior Labor Department official, will join the district attorney’s office as senior counsel. In addition to helping with its “most sensitive and high-profile white-collar investigations,” he is expected to focus on housing and tenant protection and labor and worker protection, priorities for Mr. Bragg.
“Matthew Colangelo brings a wealth of economic justice experience combined with complex white-collar investigations, and he has the sound judgment and integrity needed to pursue justice against powerful people and institutions when they abuse their power,” Mr. Bragg said in a statement confirming the hire.
The U.S. attorney general, Merrick B. Garland, said in a statement that he had relied on Mr. Colangelo’s “wise counsel and excellent judgment” since his first day in the office.
Mr. Bragg and Mr. Colangelo overlapped while working at the New York attorney general’s office, where Mr. Bragg rose to become chief deputy attorney general and Mr. Colangelo was chief counsel for federal initiatives. In that role, Mr. Colangelo led dozens of lawsuits against the Trump administration, including a successful challenge to the inclusion of a question about citizenship to the census in 2020. He also oversaw an investigation into Mr. Trump’s charity, the Trump Foundation, which caused the organization to dissolve, and led that office’s civil inquiry into Mr. Trump’s financial practices, which resulted in the September lawsuit.
Mr. Colangelo, who also spent seven years working on housing and employment issues at the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, said in a statement that he was “honored to reunite with District Attorney Bragg.”

While Mr. Colangelo has broad knowledge of the Trump Organization’s business practices and extensive litigation experience, he comes to the investigation having spent little time working on white-collar criminal prosecutions. He has never been a line prosecutor or worked as a criminal defense lawyer.
But Tom Perez, the former U.S. secretary of labor, said that Mr. Colangelo, whom he hired twice and who was his chief of staff at the Labor Department, was a quick study.
“Matthew is the perfect person for a job of this sensitivity, because he’s unflappable, he’s legally brilliant, he has impeccable judgment and he’s humble enough to involve people who have been around the block,” Mr. Perez said in an interview.
Mr. Colangelo’s time in the Obama administration, his prior litigation against Mr. Trump’s administration and his role on Ms. James’s inquiry are likely to set off protest from the former president, who has referred to the criminal and civil investigation as a unified “witch hunt.” Some of Ms. James’s lawyers have been detailed to the Manhattan district attorney’s office to work on the criminal inquiry, and one of them, Gary Fishman, is on the trial team prosecuting the Trump Organization.

AUSTIN – Texas Governor Greg Abbott made a major announcement on the future of the space industry in Texas at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston.
Governor Abbott announced the establishment the Texas Space Commission. Along with this announcement, the Governor appointed the inaugural members of the commission’s Board of Directors and the Texas Aerospace Research and Space Economy Consortium (TARSEC) Executive Committee.
“Since its very inception, NASA’s Johnson Space Center has been home to manned spaceflight, propelling Texas as the national leader in the U.S. space program,” Abbott said. “It was at Rice University where President John F. Kennedy announced that the U.S. would put a man on the moon—not because it was easy, but because it was hard. Now, with the Texas Space Commission, our great state will have a group that is responsible for dreaming and achieving the next generation of human exploration in space.”
The Texas Space Commission was formed with the goal of strengthening the state’s influence in aerospace activity by promoting innovation in space research and exploration. The organization will be governed by its Board of Directors, which consists of nine members.
Along with the announcement, Governor Abbott also toured the mission control and spoke with native Texan and NASA Astronaut Loral O’Hara via International Space Station feed.

Ohio’s current Democratic U.S.Senator, Sherrod Brown, is up for re-election this year. Brown votes 98.5% of the time with the extremely unpopular incumbent President Joe Biden. Despite this, Brown fancies himself a moderate, blue-collar Democrat who bucks his own party, and has been able to stir this conception among many moderates in Ohio due to his cautious rhetoric on the issues.
In a state which has voted for President Trump two times in a row, by wide margins in both 2016 and 2020, Brown has been a top target for Republicans hoping to flip the balance of the U.S. Senate back into GOP control. But as time has proven, the ideological composition of the GOP’s Senate caucus will make all the difference for enacting the America First conservative agenda under a second Trump administration.
President Trump, along with other ideologically-aligned conservative leaders like Ohio’s other U.S. Senator J.D. Vance and Arizona’s Kari Lake endorsed Bernie Moreno for the nomination to take on Brown in November. Moreno, a successful businessman from Northeast Ohio, embraced tough stances on issues like the migrant crisis at the southern border, and the elite political class’s willingness to send taxpayer money to Ukraine in their conflict against Russia.
The establishment Republican apparatus in Ohio countered with the campaign of Cleveland-area State Senator Matt Dolan, who gained notoriety for his family’s responsibility in the renaming of the Cleveland Indians baseball team. Dolan, after losing the Republican U.S. Senate nomination in 2022 to now incumbent Senator Vance, hoped to make a comeback by running to the center of Moreno on the issues.Dolan campaigned in support of taxpayer aid to Ukraine, and gained the endorsement of Ohio’s current Republican GovernorMike DeWine, who himself has strayed from conservative stances on issues such as Covid-19 restrictions and transgenderism.
Leading up to the primary on February 19th, both Moreno and Dolan appeared neck and neck in polling, with Dolan leading some polls. President Trump made the split-decision move to campaign in Ohio on behalf of Moreno, being a featured speaker at a massive rally held by pro-Moreno Buckeye Values PAC in Dayton on the Saturday before the primary. Moreno then did a statewide series of local rallies with featured guests Senator Vance and Kari Lake.
On election day, Ohio Republicans responded by nominating Bernie Moreno for the U.S. Senate with an unprecedented majority of the vote.Moreno won every county in the state, including urban counties which Dolan won during his first campaign for U.S. Senate in 2022.
The overwhelming results of Tuesday’s primary not only spur optimism for Republicans in being able to replace Sherrod Brown with Bernie Moreno in the November general election, but they affirm the support Ohio Republicans hold for Trump’s America First political agenda and those who adhere to it.

The goal is to supplant human decision-making with a machine interface to replace democracy. Humans will become databases.
