Violence and crime are already completely out of control all over the United States. In fact, you definitely wouldn’t want to be caught in the streets when hordes of our lawless young people are running wild. If things are this bad already, what is going to happen if the election in November does not go the way that leaders on the left want and they give the green light to millions of radicals to cause widespread chaos all over America? I think that we got a small preview of what this could look like during the riots of 2020. Unfortunately, since that time the open border policies of the Biden administration have allowed millions of extremely desperate people to come pouring into this country. The stage is being set for civil unrest on a scale that we have never seen before, and it certainly isn’t going to take much to push our society over the edge.

Just look at what is happening in New York City. Crime in the subway system is so bad that Governor Kathy Hochul has decided to call in the National Guard…

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul is sending in the state National Guard to New York City to help police curb a surge in crime in the city’s subways.

Announcing a five-point plan on Wednesday, the Democratic governor said she was deploying 750 members of the National Guard to the subways to assist the New York Police Department with bag searches at entrances to busy train stations.

“For people who are thinking about bringing a gun or knife on the subway, at least this creates a deterrent effect. They might be thinking, ‘You know what, it just may just not be worth it because I listened to the mayor and I listened to the governor and they have a lot more people who are going to be checking my bags,'” Hochul said at a news conference in New York City.

Have things gotten so bad that we need to bring in soldiers with guns to keep order on the subways?

Apparently so.

Mass transit crime is also a major problem in Philadelphia, and it is being suggested that the National Guard should be deployed there too…

Transit Workers Union Local 234 President Brian Pollitt is demanding accountability from Gov. Josh Shapiro, Mayor Cherelle Parker, and SEPTA officials after a string of violent crimes on and around Philadelphia mass transit over the last few weeks.

In fact, he says he has been calling for National Guard deployment on SEPTA – similar to how New York City has deployed the National Guard on MTA – for four years, according to WKYW.

“I think that governor needs a round of applause because they’re going through the very same thing that we’re going through,” Pollitt said of New York City.

I thought that dealing with crime was what the police were supposed to do.

Unfortunately, police departments in major cities all over the country are now severely underfunded and understaffed.

A man was arrested in connection to an arson attack at a Florida Jewish community center, which suffered major damage just hours before services were set to begin.

Scott Hannaford, 50, was arrested Saturday in Fort Lauderdale on four charges, including first- and second-degree arson, criminal mischief involving a house of worship and possession of cocaine, according to Broward County Sheriff's Office records.

Police said the arson incident at the Las Olas Chabad Jewish Community Center is not being considered a hate crime, according to NBC Miami.

Security footage from the community center shows a man lighting the van belonging to the center's rabbi on fire and then unsuccessfully trying to light the building on fire, Rabbi Chaim Slavaticki said.

Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue said the fire began in a vehicle next to the building and it then extended into the building. The center's kitchen was totally damaged and the entire building has smoke damage, per the local outlet.

Slavaticki said he has seen Hannaford multiple times before. Most recently, he saw Hannaford on Friday as he was standing in an alley by the center and yelling at the rabbi's family to drive around him, Slavaticki said.

While the rabbi's van is destroyed, a Jewish prayer book that was inside the vehicle remains intact, Slavaticki said. "This is a hug from God and God is telling us to all stand together and we always have to at times like this to turn back to our prayer books, turn back to God."

Because the attack occurred hours before services were set to begin, the congregation held services outside on Saturday.

The center is currently raising money to rebuild.

The many sections of Hawaii Revised Statutes affected by the Hawaii Kidnapping Bill are designed to trigger a series of child-custody 'loopholes' that cause inter-state barriers to be systematically removed, so long as the instigator says the magic words: “Gender Affirming Care.”

“The bill's proposed amendments to the UCCJEA redefine a family-court emergency, to allow any person “acting as a parent” to obtain emergency temporary custody against natural parents who decline to provide their children so-called “Gender Affirming Care.” Natural parents’ refusal to provide sex-change procedures would be treated as being of the same legal weight and severity as actual physical abuse or child abandonment.

The bill reads:

§583A-204, Hawaii Revised Statutes, is amended by amending subsection (a) to read as follows:

(a) A court of this State [has] shall have temporary emergency jurisdiction if the child is present in this State and the child has been abandoned or it is necessary in an emergency to protect the child because [the]:

(1) The child, or a sibling or parent of the child, is subjected to or threatened with mistreatment or abuse[.]; or

(2) The child has been unable to obtain gender‑affirming health care services.

This language plainly redefines a custody “emergency” to mean “unable to obtain gender‑affirming health care services.”

Ronald Reagan famously said, “the nine most terrifying words in the English language are: I’m from the government and I’m here to help.” When it comes to freedom of speech, that could not be more true.

One hundred and three pages of fact findings in district court, supported by five hundred and ninety-one footnotes,demonstrate a sprawling campaign of “unrelenting pressure from the most powerful office in the world” to “bend [social-media platforms] to the government’s will.” The Biden administration, however, claims that these platforms aggressively censored American voices because of Biden’s persuasive “eloquence,” rather than its threats and coercion.

While the White House insisted that social media platforms view themselves as “partners,” on the same “team,” and benefiting from the government’s “help,” those same officials were subjecting the platforms to relentless abuse, accusations, and blatant threats. Of course, this abusive relationship between Big Government and Big Tech didn’t begin this way. It was a slow burn starting as early 2017, when the FBI began coordinating secret meetings in Silicon Valley with content-moderation officers across seven platforms. Even then, the platforms were threatened with “legislation” if they did not censor more, with encrypted lists demanding mass-censorship flooding their inboxes.

This soon escalated to more aggressive practices. By 2018, CISA, or the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency, was highlighting “disinformation” from state and local officials to be censored across platforms, and in 2020, the “Election Integrity Partnership” was launched — a colossal mass-surveillance and mass-censorship project that entangled government agencies, the Stanford Internet Observatory, andsocial media platforms into an Orwellian knot. In time, this would be rebranded as “The Virality Project,” with the capability to monitor tens of millions of social media“engagements” per week and spur extensive censorship.

By the time of the COVID-19 pandemic, this shadowy Ministry of Truth had completely embedded itself into the very fabric of our digital communications. As a result, it wasn’t difficult for President Biden to double down on such an insidious system, one conveniently engineered for “the most massive attack against free speech in United States’ history.” Like water carving into rock, the unrelenting pressure from the “highest (and I mean highest) levels of the White House” proved too much for these tech companies to bear, with one hand offering them a carrot for compliance and the other threatening the complete annihilation of their business model. One by one, they folded to pressure from the Biden White House, responding with “total compliance,” even when it meant censoring truthful information that did not violate existing platform policies.

U.S. District Judge Terry Doughty of Louisiana granted an historic injunction in response to our 2022 lawsuit Louisiana and Missouri v. Biden on July 4, 2023. On appeal, the Fifth Circuit affirmed it — twice. Both courts have confirmed that the government’s coordinated campaign to censor domestic speech through private institutions violates the First Amendment rights of millions of Americans. Yet the Biden administration continues to unapologetically coerce platforms into censorship to this day, resulting in an oppressive editorial power that affects every American.

Biden’s attorneys have also made it clear that this administration has no intention of ceasing its unconstitutional conduct. Instead, they’ve expressed the firm intention to continue. That is why this case at the U.S. Supreme Court is so important to our nation. These censorship efforts were never vague or abstract but extremely specific, right down to individual speakers and posts flagged for “misinformation” or “disinformation” because they dared to criticize the government’s narrative. But the government does not have the power to secretly distort the marketplace of ideas or actively manipulate public discourse to suit its needs. Moreover, “a state may not induce, encourage or promote private persons to accomplish what it is constitutionally forbidden to accomplish” (Norwood v. Harrison).

Our limited discovery has uncovered extensive suppression of speech that goes against the fundamental nature of American liberty. For our government, its institutions, or its officials to actively censor protected speech strikes at the core of who we are as citizens of a free nation with a government created by the people, for the people.

SBF Planned to ‘Come Out As Republican’ With Tucker Carlson

Days after his crypto empire collapsed in November 2021, Sam Bankman-Fried was already contemplating his comeback by working the media.

One of his top priorities? “Go on Tucker Carlsen, come out as a republican,” SBF wrote in a typo-filled document to himself revealed by federal prosecutors on Friday. The prolific Democratic donor — in fact, the second-largest donor to the Biden 2020 campaign — would say that he was actually on the other team and the whole thing was an act. He would explain that “while public contributions show one thing, you see another thing [when] including super pacs,” then “come out against the woke agenda,” and then “talk about how the cartel of lawyers is destroying value and throwing entrepreneurs under the bus in order to cover up the incompetence of lawyers.”

The document is undated, but it is among filings made by prosecutors to the court less than two weeks before SBF is set to be sentenced on seven counts of fraud and conspiracy. The former crypto king was convicted last year of a scheme to move $9 billion of customer funds from his cryptocurrency exchange, FTX, to prop up his personal hedge fund, Alameda Research. He faces more than a century in prison, though his lawyers are hoping for a maximum of six and a half years and prosecutors are seeking 60 years. (He’s already been in jail for more than a year for leaking his ex’s diary entries.) The document is evidence, prosecutors say, that SBF was a master manipulator, particularly when it comes to using his public image for his personal benefit, and that he should not be spared because of it.

Ever since FTX’s collapse, SBF has been accused of manipulating the media in order to secure his rapid rise. Former employees testified that he exaggerated his own personal image — his wrinkled clothes, his unruly hair, his cheap cars — as a way to gain reporters’ favor and craft a positive story around him and his companies. SBF appears to have written out his grand plan for media manipulation in the kind of explicit detail that comes from a Bond villain prior to his demise. He seems to be weighing who he thinks might assist with spreading his version of events. In one document, SBF had written out a list of people he thinks “might be helpful,” which includes New Jersey senator Cory Booker and 11 reporters, including those from Bloomberg, the New York Times, and The Wall Street Journal. One action item, in a separate document, reads: “Work, on background, with reporters on getting narratives out.”

The notes cast a different light on an infamous interview with Vox reporter Kelsey Piper in which SBF lamented “this dumb game we woke westerners play where we say all the right shibboleths so everyone likes us,” and, in a flash of anger, “fuck regulators.” At the time, it appeared that this was a moment when the crypto billionaire was letting his guard down. (Piper is a fellow traveler in the Effective Altruism movement, and SBF later claimed that he didn’t think he was talking with her in her capacity as a journalist.) In light of his plans to come out as anti-woke on Tucker Carlson, it’s less clear whether this rightward shift — perhaps to a more friendly constituency — was something he was planning long in advance.

While the Feds make their case to incarcerate him for a long time, SBF’s friends and family members have written glowing letters to get him a lighter sentence. Several have noted his philanthropy and his good intentions as reasons why he should be spared an effective life sentence. In one note, his mother, Barbara Friedman, told Judge Lewis Kaplan her son exhibits signs of (but has not been diagnosed as having) autism spectrum disorder and said he has been “wracked with remorse for not having prevented the implosion of FTX and the damage that followed.”

Spokesman for the Niger military junta, Major Amadou Abdramane, stated clearly, with no margin for interpretation: ‘The American bases and civilian personnel cannot stay on Nigerien soil any longer.’

The US was left scrambled on Sunday to assess the future of its counterterrorism operations in the Sahel.

The American military has hundreds of troops stationed at a major airbase in northern Niger.

The group flies over the Sahel region — south of the Sahara Desert — in search of jihadi groups linked to al-Qaida and the Islamic State.

“Top U.S. envoy Molly Phee returned to the capital, Niamey, this week to meet with senior government officials, accompanied by Marine Gen. Michael Langley, head of the U.S. military’s African Command. She had previously visited in December, while acting Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland traveled to the country in August.”

According to State Department, talks were frank, but it does not seem that it has any leeway left to negotiate a deal to stay in the country.

“Niger had been seen as one of the last nations in the restive region that Western nations could partner with to beat back growing jihadi insurgencies. The U.S. and France had more than 2,500 military personnel in the region until recently, and together with other European countries had invested hundreds of millions of dollars in military assistance and training.”

“The U.S. military still had some 650 personnel working in Niger in December, according to a White House report to Congress. The Niger base is used for both manned and unmanned surveillance operations. In the Sahel the U.S. also supports ground troops, including accompanying them on missions. However, such accompanied missions have been scaled back since U.S. troops were killed in a joint operation in Niger in 2017.

It’s unclear what prompted the junta’s decision to suspend military ties. On Saturday, the junta’s spokesperson, Col. Maj. Amadou Abdramane, said U.S. flights over Niger’s territory in recent weeks were illegal. Meanwhile, Insa Garba Saidou, a local activist who assists Niger’s military rulers with their communications, criticized U.S. efforts to force the junta to pick between strategic partners.”

A no-contact advisory was issued for the Kalamazoo River after a chemical spill occurred at Pfizer’s manufacturing plant in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

According to city health officials, Pfizer released over 1,057 gallons of methylene chloride in its manufacturing facilities processing area, which was then discharged into the Kalamazoo River.

Methylene chloride is a colorless liquid that Pfizer and other pharmaceutical manufacturers use as a solvent in their pharmaceutical medicines.

After the chemical spill occurred, Kalamazoo County Health Officials warned residents not to come into contact with the Kalamazoo River.

Kalamazoo County Health Officer Jim Rutherford stated, “We decided to issue a no-contact advisory for the stretch of river impacted by the methylene chloride release as a precautionary measure.”

“This advisory will remain in effect until further investigation and sampling indicates that there is no risk to public health,” added Rutherford.

Comet Pons-Brooks' Swirling Coma

A bright comet will be visible during next month's total solar eclipse. This very unusual coincidence occurs because Comet 12P/Pons-Brooks's return to the inner Solar System places it by chance only 25 degrees away from the Sun during Earth's April 8 total solar eclipse. Currently the comet is just on the edge of visibility to the unaided eye, best visible with binoculars in the early evening sky toward the constellation of the Fish (Pisces). Comet Pons-Brooks, though, is putting on quite a show for deep camera images even now. The featured image is a composite of three very specific colors, showing the comet's ever-changing ion tail in light blue, its outer coma in green, and highlights some red-glowing gas around the coma in a spiral. The spiral is thought to be caused by gas being expelled by the slowly rotating nucleus of the giant iceberg comet. Although it is always difficult to predict the future brightness of comets, Comet Pons-Brook has been particularly prone to outbursts, making it even more difficult to predict how bright it will actually be as the Moon moves in front of the Sun on April 8.

Research in the growing field of space medicine has identified many ways in which zero-gravity and other conditions can affect the human body. Now, a new study finds that astronauts are more likely to experience headaches in space than previously known.

The study involved 24 astronauts from the U.S., European and Japanese space agencies. They all traveled aboard the International Space Station for up to 26 weeks. All but two of them reported experiencing headaches in space.

Headaches struck a larger number of astronauts than the scientists had expected. The headaches continued even after the crew had been in space long enough for the body to adjust. The process takes place in the first two weeks in space.

The headaches during the early period often presented similarly to migraines. Those experienced later in space travel presented more like a tension headache, the study found.

Neurologist WPJ van Oosterhout of Zaans Medical Center and the Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands was lead author of the study. He said the research suggests different processes “are involved for the early headache episodes - the first one to two weeks in space - versus later headache episodes.”

The study was published this week in the journal Neurology.

"In the first week, the body has to adapt to the lack of gravity, known as space adaptation syndrome. This phenomenon is similar to motion sickness, and can cause nausea, vomiting and dizziness, and headaches," Van Oosterhout said. "The later headaches could result from … more fluid accumulating in the upper part of the body and head….”

Migraines experienced on Earth are often throbbing, and last four to seven hours, along with symptoms like nausea, vomiting and sensitivity to light and sound, Van Oosterhout said. Tension headaches on Earth usually are a dull pain felt over the whole head, he said.

The astronauts, 23 men and one woman, had an average age of about 47. They visited the International Space Station for missions that took place from November 2011 to June 2018. A total of 378 headaches were reported by 22 of the 24 astronauts during a total of 3,596 days in orbit. None of the 24 reported headaches in the three months after returning to Earth. None had ever had migraines before their time in space and none had a history of usual headache attacks.

Documented effects of space travel include bone and muscle weakening, or atrophy, changes in the brain, cardiovascular system and immune system. Astronauts have also experienced effects on the inner ear and a condition involving the eyes. The risk of cancer from high radiation levels in space is another concern.

Experts are unsure how much of a barrier these effects might have on human space travel over long periods, like trips to Mars or beyond.

"The honest answer is that we don't know the effects of long-duration space travel - possibly years - on the human body," Van Oosterhout said, adding, this "is a clear task for the field of space medicine."

The Aerospace Corp. and the Space Foundation announced March 18 they are partnering to expand the Space Workforce 2030 program.

Aerospace started the Space Workforce 2030 initiative in 2022, forming a coalition of about 30 member companies with the goal of promoting a more diverse and inclusive workforce within the space industry, and to help inspire and prepare the next generation of scientists and engineers.

Melanie Stricklan, co-founder and former CEO of Slingshot Aerospace, was tapped as the first executive director of Space Workforce 2030

Aerospace CEO Steve Isakowitz said Stricklan will lead several new initiatives such as increase outreach to underrepresented groups, provide educational opportunities like internships, and work with companies to promote inclusive hiring practices.

Aerospace is a nonprofit corporation that advises government agencies and operates a federally funded research and development center. The Space Foundation is a nonprofit organization focused on education and outreach.

Space Workforce 2030 so far has relied on volunteers and administrative support from Aerospace. Given the demand for more activities, “we realized we needed to partner with an organization that could take us to the next level,” Isakowitz said. “Adding an executive director will allow us to raise money, raise our profile, and take on a lot of the great things that we haven’t been able to take on.”

The members of the group share workforce data to inform trend analysis about industry demographics and workforce diversity. “We will continue to collect data,” said Stricklan. “All the companies will continue to make sure that there is transparency and accountability.”

Industry faces talent shortages

The space industry is at a critical juncture, said Stricklan. Commercial space companies and government agencies face complex demands, and are confronting a shrinking talent pool and fierce competition for those with specialized skills and experience, she said.

Part of the challenge is a declining number of students pursuing science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) degrees that form the foundation for most space careers. There are also concerns that the industry is failing to attract candidates from diverse backgrounds who may be unaware of the exciting opportunities.

Space Workforce 2030 plans to work hand-in-hand with universities, community colleges and high schools to foster interest in space careers, Stricklan said.

One of its most successful initiatives is the National Space Intern Program to prepare students for space careers. About 332 interns participated in the first year and more than 4,100 undergraduate and graduate students registered for the 2024 program.

Space Foundation CEO Heather Pringle said Space Workforce 2030 is partnering with the White House, NASA, industry and academia to host its first annual National Space Day, a nationwide event with in-person and streaming components designed to inspire the next generation.

Ironically, it was only after coming to terms with the sobering realization that he “couldn’t be a rock star,” that the Long Island native leapt into the field of lawyering. “I think I always knew that I wasn’t going to be a rock star, but nevertheless I toyed around with it,” says Meiselas, who earned a B.A. in political science at Washington U. in St. Louis before getting his J.D. at Hofstra U. in Hempstead, N.Y.

“To date myself, I was one of the many who saw the Beatles on ‘Ed Sullivan’ and I fell in love with rock and roll, and I knew that I just wanted to be a part of it,” Meiselas recalls with a whiff of youthful nostalgia. “I don’t think I had realistic dreams of being a rock star, but even while I was going to law school I was in a band as the lead singer and songwriter. We played local Manhattan clubs, and I’m very fortunate that there was no YouTube, internet or social media back then.”

They say the most successful music industry executives started out as failed musicians, so Meiselas is in good company. But what also makes a music professional rise above the noise is commitment, something that Meiselas recognized as he graduated law school. “It was a key moment in my life and I looked in the mirror and said: you are not that talented.”

But with career aspirations still deeply entrenched in a passion for music, Meiselas was unwilling to pivot completely away from his love of rock and roll. It was a serendipitous encounter in the late 1980s with members of the 1960s girl group The Exciters, whose 1963 hit song “Tell Him” reached No. 4 on the pop charts, that steered Meiselas toward the “business side” of entertainment.

“The lead singer of the group was Brenda Reid and her husband, Herb Rooney, was the producer and song arranger,” Meiselas recalls. “Coincidentally, they had a manager who happened to work in the same building where I was working as a young lawyer just starting, trying to get into the entertainment world. This manager worked down the hall and he was still fighting the good fight even though [The Exciters] hadn’t had a hit in many, many years. And one day he came knocking at my door and said, ‘Hey, I manage this group, The Exciters, and their song ‘Tell Him’ is on the soundtrack of the movie ‘The Big Chill,’ and they didn’t get paid. Can you help find a way to get them paid?’”

Meiselas placed myriad calls and “turned over every rock” and was finally able to hunt down a small label called Liberty Records. “They were part of EMI and they kind of said, ‘Where have you been? We’ve been looking for The Exciters! Of course we want to pay you!’ ”

That was the beginning of Meiselas’ career as a dealmaker. “It wasn’t a tremendous amount of money, but being an exploited group of the ’60s, it really mattered to them,” says the attorney.

A couple of years later, Cory Rooney, Reid’s son, approached Meiselas for some career advice. Rooney’s friend, Prince Markie Dee, was one of the founding members of the 1980s hip-hop trio the Fat Boys, but he wanted out of the band so that he and Rooney could focus on writing songs and producing.

“[Cory] came to me and said, ‘You were so great to my mom and dad, can you help us? Mark wants to get out of the Fat Boys and we want to do serious music together,’ ” says Meiselas. “So I was able to get them out of the deal and their first project was on Uptown Records for an artist named Father MC. He was on the verge of becoming a superstar. His first album went gold, back when gold was meaningful, and he was on his way to reaching the next level. And the young guy doing A&R on the record was someone by the name of Puff Daddy. I think he was about 19. I got him fired from the project so Father MC could A&R it himself. We never really heard from Father MC again career-wise. But Puff came to me a couple of months later and said, ‘Hey, will you represent me?’”

Meiselas has repped Combs, whose music career exploded exponentially in the ’90s, and has since gone on to mogul status with a diverse portfolio that includes fashion, top-shelf liquor, television and much more, from that day.

Rexha was one of those. A fledgling songwriter at the time they were introduced, Meiselas says, “It was kind of an instant, ‘Wow, this girl is incredible.’ I literally knocked down the doors to get Bebe her first record deal.”

The investment paid off. Not only did Rexha score a hit as a writer, with a credit on Eminem and Rihanna’s Grammy-winning rap single, “The Monster,” she went on to release “Meant to Be” with Florida Georgia Line, one of the biggest country-pop crossover hits of all time, and she’s well on her way to success on her own solo terms.

The guidance of Grubman cannot be understated. A trailblazer in entertainment law and a key architect of the modern music business, he has been not just a mentor to Meiselas, but also a friend.

“It takes a village,” says Meiselas. “My partners — Larry Shire, who runs the film department, whose team worked side by side with me on ‘A Star Is Born,’ and Eric Sacks, who runs our corporate department, and of course to my mentor — the king — Allen Grubman. This team enables me to represent all of my superstar clientele in all of the diverse areas of their careers from music, film, television and theater to branding, licensing and strategic partnerships.”

Of course, there’s no better use of influence than to help create a platform through which his clients can make a deep, widespread philanthropic impact. It was Meiselas who furnished the legal expertise in 1994 when Combs founded Daddy’s House Social Programs, a New York City-based organization providing recreation and education for underprivileged and homeless urban youth. More recently, Combs has been involved with charter schools in Harlem and in the Bronx. Says Meiselas: “It’s always been very important for him to give back to the community.”

Other clients’ charities include Usher’s New Look Foundation, a non-profit that serves youth through a 10-year program aimed at developing passion-driven global leaders. And there’s Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation, led by the singer and her mother, Cynthia Germanotta, founded in 2012 to support the mental and emotional wellness of young people “and empower them to create a kinder and braver world.”

While Meiselas notes that he’s “in no way the driving force” of these massive philanthropic endeavors, he’s proud and inspired by his clients as they seek to foment greater good in the world. “When you find someone who’s so passionate about giving back, like Gaga and Usher, I really admire that,” he says. “I represent my clients and their passions are my passions, especially when they care about issues that are important and that I also believe in. Hopefully through the things that we do, be it contributions or attending events or providing pro bono legal aid, it’s helping their dreams come true.”

It’s Meiselas’s eldest son, Ben, who seems to have inherited that same proclivity for giving back. Partner and head of the civil litigation department of Geragos & Geragos, Ben Meiselas has steered two of the most high-profile civil cases in recent American history: Colin Kaepernick’s landmark lawsuit against the NFL and the victorious class-action suits against the now-infamous Fyre Festival and its founder, Billy McFarland.

“The work that he does is really about helping people with some of the more challenging issues that we face today,” says Meiselas. “He’s really the lawyer fighting for those important causes on behalf of his clients.”

But as Meiselas tells it, there was a time when Ben wasn’t certain he even wanted to graduate from college — the son, like father, was seduced by the biz. “He was introduced to the music scene at a very early age,” says the elder Meiselas, noting that Ben’s bar mitzvah party was held at Justin’s, Combs’ now-defunct restaurant in Manhattan.

“He used to go to the music studios with me and had early contact with all these artists,” Meiselas recalls. “Then he went to George Washington University. One year, he had this fun situation where he was working with Puff in Miami and he was running around with, I think, Bruce Willis and Nelly. He was supposed to be going back to school. He didn’t get on that plane. I tracked him down and he’s like, ‘Dad, I don’t need to go back to school. I’m already working.’ And I was like, ‘Guess whose kid is going to college?’ And he said, ‘Who?’ And I go, ‘Puff’s kid is going to college. And if his kid is going to college, you’re going to college!’ And then, fortunately, he got on that next plane.”

As for what comes next in his career, Meiselas is content with continuing to focus on his role in the music industry — “Remember I’m a frustrated rock star, so I was never looking to be a courtroom attorney,” he says — and spending time with his family, which includes wife, former publicist Beth Katz, and their teenage daughter, Rachel, who has her own radio show at her Long Island high school and aspires to be a sports reporter. Meiselas has three sons from a previous marriage: Ben; Brett, who has won two Emmy Awards working on “The Ellen Show” and now works as a producer and social media executive for Cubevision and the Big3; and Jordan, an advertising account executive for Translation in Brooklyn.

“I have always tried to balance my career in the music industry with being a father to my children — from coaching the kids in every sport to supporting them in their career goals,” says Meiselas.

He also serves as a guest lecturer each semester at his alma mater, Washington U. “In this class I teach they focus on entertainment and music, and the number one question I get is, how do break into the business? And there really is no one story,” he says. “There are a few things I can recommend to someone about how to pursue their passion, but, for me, I was just always looking to find a way to get into show business. Because I really have no desire to be any other type of lawyer.”
