NATO member state opposes Dutch PM’s bid to lead bloc
Mark Rutte once said Hungary should be out of the EU or down on its knees over gay rights
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte will not have Budapest’s backing in his bid to become the next secretary general of NATO, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Tuesday. The Nordic politician is considered the frontrunner for the job.
Rutte has the endorsement of several heavyweights in the military alliance, including France, Germany, the UK, and the US. But the Hungarian government opposes the candidacy due to his vocal criticism of their country in the past.
”We certainly can’t support the election of a man to the position of NATO’s secretary general, who previously wanted to force Hungary on its knees,” Szijjarto said.
He was referring to remarks made by Rutte in 2021, after Hungary passed a law that prohibited the exposure of LGBT-themed content to minors.
The Dutch prime minister had argued that this was incompatible with EU values, saying Hungary had “no business being in the European Union any more.” Brussels’ goal should be “to bring Hungary to its knees on this issue,” he added, speaking ahead of an EU leaders’ summit.
While roughly two-thirds of alliance member states support Rutte’s bid, the secretary general has to be appointed by a unanimous vote. Budapest has demonstrated its willingness to leverage its voting rights in NATO by withholding the ratification of Sweden’s bid to join the transatlantic bloc for almost two years. President Tamas Sulyok signed the bill approving the accession on Tuesday.
The Dutch prime minister is serving his fourth term. Rutte announced his decision to depart from national politics last July. He currently holds office in a caretaker capacity, as MPs elected in November’s election have struggled to form a new government.
Jens Stoltenberg is set to step down as NATO secretary general in October after a decade in the position. His successor is expected to be chosen in July, during a leaders’ summit in Washington.

Workers from Texas to Ohio benefit from Washington’s campaign to procure arms for Kiev, Lloyd Austin has claimed
The Ukraine conflict is a boon for the US economy as it has allowed more jobs to be created in the American military-industrial sector, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has said.
Speaking at a meeting of the White House Competition Council on Tuesday, the Pentagon chief promised that Washington would continue to push for a stronger defense industry, particularly in light of the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
Austin claimed that American military assistance to Kiev has not only “saved lives” and kept Ukraine in the fight, but has also strengthened the US economy.
“These investments have expanded facilities and created jobs for American workers. And the weapons that we’ve sent to Ukraine to help defend itself are made in America by American workers nationwide — from Texas, to Ohio, to Arizona,” he added.
Most Ukraine aid ‘goes right back’ to US – Nuland
The Ukraine conflict has also highlighted the need to improve military production, according to Austin, who stressed coordination with Washington’s allies. He further urged US lawmakers to adopt a national security package which would earmark $60 billion for Kiev. The legislation remains stalled in Congress due to opposition from Republicans, who have demanded that the White House address the security crisis on the border with Mexico.
The US has been Ukraine’s main military backer, providing Kiev with around $45 billion in arms between January 2022 and January 2024, while total commitments have reached more than $70 billion, according to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. Reports have suggested that the US push to arm Ukraine has put a significant strain on the country’s own stockpiles.
While officials in the administration of President Joe Biden have argued that most of the funds for Ukraine are being spent inside the US, some Republicans have criticized the White House for allocating taxpayer dollars to foreign nations instead of directly tackling issues at home.
According to a December poll by the Pew Research Center, 31% of Americans believe the US is providing too much support to Ukraine, while 29% say the current level of assistance is about right.
Russia has repeatedly denounced Western arms shipments to Ukraine, warning that they will only prolong the conflict. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in December that the US would likely continue to fuel the Ukraine conflict in 2024, as long as it gets away with drawing funds from American taxpayers.

As wealth and power concentrates, the cycle continues. The wealthy exert their power to
further shape the rules, news, and culture of society. They block popular reforms by
capturing the political system, fend off enforcement, and ensure dysfunctional gridlock.
This leads to further consolidation of wealth dynasties, impervious to taxation and
accountability. It also leads to further social breakdown and polarization, as our collective
capacity to solve big problems — like responding to a pandemic or ecological disruption —
is rendered inoperative.
Even in a country that was forged out of a rejection of feudalism, it may be hard for those of
us in the U.S. to spot the telltale signs of a reassertion of feudalistic and monarchic norms.
One component is what law professor Allison Tait describes as a culture of “high wealth
exceptionalism,” where the wealthy believe they are entitled to a separate set of laws and
rules governing them because of their wealth — and the rest of society tolerates this
arrangement.11
As this brief primer will explain, we can fix this. Lawmakers could shut down this hidden
wealth apparatus overnight by outlawing particular trusts and loopholes, promoting
ownership transparency, passing global trade treaties that prohibit offshore practices (and
consign rebel states to economic pariah status), and investing in robust enforcement.
The “dynasty trust” is a trust designed to drive dynastic wealth accumulation. This primer
is devoted to understanding this key tool in the wealth-sequestering toolbox.

President Trump might be about to receive some massive help from the world’s second richest man.
According to to the New York Times, the 45th President held a secret meeting with X owner Elon Musk Sunday at the Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida. A handful of wealthy GOP donors were also in Trump’s home then.
The get-together comes as Trump looks for some needed cash to compete with the record fundraising from Joe Biden’s campaign. The Times notes Musk has the potential to erase Biden’s significant financial advantage all on his own.
At this time, it is unknown whether Musk has committed to spending money on Trump’s campaign. One would think at first that a heavy investment on Musk’s might seem a stretch considering he has overwhelmingly voted for Democrats in the past.
The Times further points out that Musk and Trump have had heated disagreements. For example, in the summer of 2022, Musk said it was time for Trump to “sail into the sunset” while the 45th President responded with a colorful term for Musk.
But there are reasons to think that Tesla founder might decide to endorse the great MAGA king this time, beginning with immigration.
As the Gateway Pundit previously reported, Musk has been sounding the alarm on the Biden regime’s betrayal of America on the border for weeks.
He escalated the rhetoric on Tuesday when he warned that “the groundwork is being laid for something far worse than 9/11.”
The Times reports that if Musk decides to endorse Trump, the issue of illegal immigration will be a crucial motivator.
The Biden regime has also harassed Musk with numerous frivolous investigations. They are exhausting all resources to destroy his business empire and perhaps even reverse his purchase of X/Twitter.
Musk has also been one of America’s staunchest enemies of the woke agenda. He understands our nation faces an enduring culture war and has bravely cast his lot with conservatives in this fight.
The Twitter owner has personal and policy reasons for wanting to rid the nation of Joe Biden. Democrat and liberal media heads will explode if Musk gives his full financial backing to Trump.

Corporate Transparency Act Ruled Unconstitutional, but Scope of Judgment Is Limited

On March 1, 2024, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Alabama held the Corporate Transparency Act (the “CTA”) unconstitutional. The relief granted by the court is limited to enjoining the federal government from enforcing the CTA against the plaintiffs in the case, the National Small Business Association (“NSBA”) and Isaac Winkles, an NSBA member (together, the “plaintiffs”). The judgment, thus, leaves the CTA intact against other parties and is highly likely to be appealed. However, the court’s decision likely paves the way for further challenges to the CTA.
Background. The CTA was enacted as part of the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021 and, generally, requires the U.S. Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (“FinCEN”) to implement a beneficial ownership reporting regime, requiring companies to disclose information about their beneficial owners, senior officers and other control persons to the federal government.
FinCEN’s first regulation implementing the CTA was published on September 30, 2022 and went into effect on January 1, 2024. It establishes which entities must report beneficial ownership information to FinCEN, what information must be reported and when reports are due. Complaint. The plaintiffs filed suit against the Treasury Department in November 2022, alleging that the CTA’s disclosure requirements exceed Congress’s authority under Article I of the Constitution and violate the First, Fourth, Fifth, Ninth, and Tenth Amendments.
Decision. The court held that the CTA exceeded the limits of Congress’s power but left aside (and undecided) the plaintiffs’ other allegations regarding violation of the Amendments enumerated above.
The government had argued that the CTA was authorized under three powers: (i) foreign affairs powers, (ii) the Commerce Clause, and (iii) taxing powers. In a 53-page memorandum opinion, the court rejected those arguments=
The court found that the CTA is not authorized under Congress’s foreign affairs powers because incorporation is an internal affair and is a power left to the states. The court stated that the foreign affairs powers cannot be applied to the “purely domestic arena of incorporation” in this fashion.
The court also held that the CTA is not authorized under the Commerce Clause. It found that (i) the CTA, by its plain text, does not regulate the channels and instrumentalities of commerce, and (ii) incorporation is a non-commercial activity, and the mere fact that many incorporated entities engage in interstate commerce is not sufficient to invoke the Commerce Clause. The court also stated that the CTA is not necessary and proper to Commerce Clause powers because it is not essential given similar requirements under FinCEN’s customer due diligence rule, which requires banks and other financial institutions to collect beneficial ownership information.
Finally, the court determined that the CTA is not authorized under Congress’s taxing powers because, although the collection of beneficial ownership information under the CTA can help the IRS with tax collection, simply being useful to tax collection is not sufficient to invoke tax powers.
Potential Consequences. The court’s decision is a blow to the CTA but, at least for now, its implications appear limited.
• First, the court’s final judgment enjoins the federal government from enforcing the CTA against the plaintiffs, but it does not extend beyond them. (State laws that mimic the federal CTA, such as the one enacted recently by New York State, are not affected by the court’s decision.)
• Second, and relatedly, in responding to the case, FinCEN did not extend the judgment to the reporting regime as a whole, limiting its reach to the plaintiffs and keeping the CTA website online and operational.
• Third, the government is highly likely to appeal the court’s decision and request a stay during the appeal. FinCEN implies an appeal is coming in its response to the court’s order.
All of this being said, this lawsuit is likely to spawn similar litigation, and the success of the plaintiffs may motivate others to try to achieve more broad relief under the same theories.

Prince Andrew, Sarah Ferguson and the York family received more than £1 million from an allegedly corrupt financier acting on behalf of a Turkish millionaire, a court has heard.
The High Court heard the Duke of York, 63, his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, 64, alongside their daughters Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, received payments totalling £1.4 million from Selman Turk on behalf of Nebahat Isbilen.
Mr Turk, a former Goldman Sachs banker who agreed to help Isbilen invest her money in the UK, faces a possible jail sentence after being found to be in contempt of court for concealing details of his financial affairs, including payments to the Duchess of York.
Turk, 37, who denies any wrongdoing, faces a separate case over his use of Isbilen's money.
It comes as the Duchess of York revealed she had been given the all clear after being diagnosed with an aggressive skin cancer earlier this year whilst attending a conference in Australia.

What Are Hubble and Webb Observing Right Now? NASA Tool Has the Answer

It’s not hard to find out what NASA’s Hubble and James Webb space telescopes have observed in the past. Barely a week goes by without news of a cosmic discovery made possible using images, spectra, and other data captured by NASA’s prolific astronomical observatories.
But what are Hubble and Webb looking at right this minute? A shadowy pillar harboring nascent stars? A pair of colliding galaxies? The atmosphere of a distant planet? Galactic light, stretched and distorted on a 13-billion-year journey across space?
NASA’s Space Telescope Live, a web application originally developed in 2016 to deliver real-time updates on Hubble targets, now affords easy access to up-to-date information on current, past, and upcoming observations from both Hubble and Webb.
Designed and developed for NASA by the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, this exploratory tool offers the public a straightforward and engaging way to learn more about how astronomical investigations are carried out.
With its redesigned user interface and expanded functionality, users can find out not only what planet, star, nebula, galaxy, or region of deep space each telescope is observing at the moment, but also where exactly these targets are in the sky; what scientific instruments are being used to capture the images, spectra, and other data; precisely when and how long the observations are scheduled to occur; the status of the observation; who is leading the research; and most importantly, what the scientists are trying to find out.
Information for observations from approved science programs is available via the Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes. NASA’s Space Telescope Live offers easy access to this information – not only the current day’s targets, but the entire catalog of past observations as well – with Webb records dating back to its first commissioning targets in January 2022, and Hubble records all the way back to the beginning of its operations in May 1990.
The zoomable sky map centered on the target’s location was developed using the Aladin Sky Atlas, with imagery from ground-based telescopes to provide context for the observation. (Because the Hubble and Webb data must go through preliminary processing, and in many cases preliminary analysis, before being released to the public and astronomy community, real-time imagery is not available in this tool for either telescope.)
Details such as target name and coordinates, scheduled start and end times, and the research topic, are pulled directly from the observation scheduling and proposal planning databases. Links within the tool direct users to the original research proposal, which serves as a gateway to more technical information.
While this latest version of NASA’s Space Telescope Live constitutes a significant transformation from the previous release, the team is already gathering feedback from users and planning additional enhancements to provide opportunities for deeper exploration and understanding.
NASA’s Space Telescope Live is designed to work on desktop and mobile devices, and is accessible via NASA’s official Hubble and Webb websites. Additional details about the content, including public-friendly explanations of the information displayed in the tool, can be found in the User Guide.
