I'm trying to compile the best 40 cars of Gran Turismo 6 (roughly in order of performance) before the servers for the game go down in March. The 40 cars will be arranged in such a way that you can beat the entire game using just those, because they're at various PP categories.
Rules for the list:
>No prize cars
>No dirty DLC cars or their equivalents
>No General Motors cars
>Avoid Autosport cars
>Extra points if they were available in original GT1/GT2 games
>Extra points if they're affordable (for when log-in bonuses and seasonals die)

The car that I had on my wall was the first generation Dodge Viper RT/10. General Motors in their infinite wisdom, took the advice of their lawyers and had a bunch of them crushed. It's rather like burning an expensive painting "because the lawyers told me to". You can look up "GM crushes Vipers" if you want to know more about it, but I'm not forgiving it. My main interest within that list is the Honda, but I'm also interested to know if the Mazda Furai was regarded as an extremely fast "Normal Car" like a McLaren F1.

Yeah.. le crossy face had me questioning it and it turns out I can't find any evidence of one company being owned by the other. I don't know where I got it from but I've besmirched GM's good name in confusing them. I loved Dodge so very much. The Viper was the original car I was going to buy if I ever made some money.
Putting GM back on the table gives me some options, especially in the ye olde race car cup where the Toyota 7 and Chapparels keep showing up. I did it in a Mercury Cougar, but I was hoping to pick out a car that would make an easier time of it.

Yeah the HS-V is my favorite 600PP car. I call it my mosquito for the sound it makes and because of the ease I have passing other cars with it.

I was surprised how well the GC Impreza and R32 GTR both drove, especially the Godzilla. Also the Integra is pretty good.
Also, the FC is less squirelly compared to the FD.

Had to put the Honda beat, the MR2 and the 787B on the pyre because Autosport has them now. I want to avoid cars from that game and also avoid cars used as DLC or pre-order bonuses. Also cars that aren't in an unpatched copy. Strictly the pinnacle of this base game. I'm thinking about chopping the list down to 25 too, but then I'm worried cars I like are gonna fall off. It'd be all racing cars then most likely. I'm trying to keep the list somewhat cheap too because seasonal events aren't a thing any more. It's going to take a lot of fettling to get it where I want it.

FC is the wedge and the FD is the newer one.
Dunno about the handling of the R390 but I do know that it was proper fucked on the track IRL. Had many technical problems. Shouldn't matter at all for a video game.

You can do some gearbox magic to get it to a decent speed, but you'll need to hone your driving skills to get around turns while maintaining as much speed as you can, you have to play slightly differently with that one. But if the 500 is still not enough get the classic Mini, you can make it fast enough to go below 8 minutes on the Bürgerking.
