Do you find this impressive? I'm not a car person but I can see how someone can like working with engines ect. However designing an engine to be loud so it sounds "cool" seems like a retarded nigger-tier thing to do. Yet I see these fuckers everywhere and my car-loving friends seem genuinely impressed by this. Is this the popular opinion here or are they normies?

>designing an engine to be loud

I though non-car guys would at least know how exhausts and mufflers work.

But car guys do like engine noises much like how /k/ loves the sounds of an A-10's BRRRRRRRTs or how /d/ loves the sound of an Ara futa moaning from a fist being stuck up her urethra. However, one also has to make the distinction between ricer engine noises (unmodified Honda Civic engine made to be louder by taking away the muffler) and performance engine noises (Mustang or Camaro with modified cams, etc.). We hate the former but like the latter

There's loud and there's obnoxious.

I'm personally a sucker for muffler deleted diesels, but they do remain rather silent. Any car that's so loud it hurts my ears is way obnoxious. Any tinny fart can is obnoxious.

I see you're frustrated with your current situation and you want to vent. You could have just made a thread about how loud exhausts annoy you.

I want to know if people actually find this impressive or is it just a compensation thing.

I can understand if it's a powerful machine or whatever but if it's literally just a loud motorcycle it's infuriating.

>>13727

If it sounds the same inside you're literally only annoying everyone around you for no benefit.

Internal combustion engines need to be able to release their exhaust fumes in order to run reliably and efficiently. A lot of performance related engines need unrestricted (and sometimes conversely loud) exhausts to accomplish this. It's not "literally only annoying everyone around you for no benefit". Do your research before making bold claims like this. If it bothers you that much, then move to an area with stricter noise control laws and cops that actually give a damn

Or invest in ear plugs. Or have a fan running while you sleep.

There's many ways to protect you from noise, and the garbage pick up is noisy, too.

As someone who's not impressed with engine sounds but enjoys fun driving, electric cars could be cool. Electra Meccanica is making a roadster and if they actually deliver/improve the Solo to fund it, it might be fun.

Loud normie cars are nigger tier. I appreciate open exhausts on raceway not in the streets. That saying, it is fun do drive something so loud you cant hear your thoughts and pops and crackles when you let off the gas.

No. The places I've lived were plagued by straight-piped brodozers flooring it off of stop signs in residential neighborhoods. There was the occasional riced out civic but those are barely loud in comparison. And of course loud-ass Harley motorcycles cruised by occasionally.

I can tolerate cars that are just naturally loud like a v8 mustang or something, but if you purposely modify your vehicle to be loud then you're a douchebag. And some of those pickup drivers deserved a magdump of .308 to the engine block. I lived in a second floor apartment that was 50 feet back from the road and a giant tree grew in front of my windows, and I still had to pause what I was watching when one of those drove past because it was so fucking loud. I wanted to become a cop so I could issue noise violation tickets all day long because it didn't seem the local cops ever did.

I've lived on the same block as a fire house my whole life. Loud sounds at night have not bothered me since I was 10. The kid next door has a GT mustang and it never phases me when he turns it over at 11pm to park it, I guess you're not used to noise at night? Get a fan or something.

Not really. I want the engine to sound like it's working like it should but not be obnoxious (read: loud for the sake of being loud). I feel as though that's for men with tiny penises.

There is one thing though - if you're doing it for better exhaust flow then I have no issue with it as >>13731 said. Most douchebags do not do this though they just want to rupture their ear drums with retarded "sound" mods.

"Loud" is pleb-tier attention whoring.

When you think about it, an engine is pretty close to musical instrument

>Air goes in

>Pressure waves come out

A loud flow path is like an uncontrolled instrument, a kid playing ear rape on the violin.

This is why I like "sound tubes" they put on modern cars. Unlike fake engine sounds in the speakers, the sound tube grabs pressure pulses from the intake, and with a tuned resonator or two, pipes that into the car like a private concert.

Loud exhausts just drone annoyingly in the cabin and annoy everyone around.
