f1f13f No.11225 [Last50 Posts]
Hello everyone, Saab anon here.
I got tired of looking at the brownpills and thought that we should have an active BO. I sent a claim for /o/, and now here I am. the last BO wasn't active since February
I already took the liberty of deleting the brownpills and spoilering some porn, as well as changing the board message. I also made moderation logs completely public because I like transparency.
Some things I would like to do:
>get more banners
>maybe get custom flags - like for automakers, racing teams, etc
>not be a faggot BO
Does anyone else have any suggestions? Post them here for discussion or email me. Post your new banners here as well.
Follow the rules:

Glad someone else thinks it's funny.
You don't really need photoshop unless you want to do some super detailed/complicated stuff. Krita is good enough for most things, and GIMP can do most of what photoshop can AFAIK - it's just not as straightforward.

Maybe advertise in the /ogc/ threads on /v/. Usually get a couple of questions about cars that aren't posted here because "/o/ is dead".

not sure what my title would be, what kind of powers i need, im sure you can fill me in.
I hate cucks and redditors. I also want to bring more /pol/itics into our discussions. Meta /o/ threads where we discuss how the kikes kike us with oil and gas, and threads where we talk about how big of a faggot elon cuck is.
just a few examples.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

No thank you. I won't delete them if you make them but I doubt they will catch on if they don't spur actual discussion, as opposed to circlejerking. Especially with only like 5 frequent posters that would get stale really fast (and is dumb to begin with).

YouTube embed. Click thumbnail to play. Can we meme something like WAT? Because I don't want any association with cuckchan or any other car community. Maybe something like Right Wing Death Machines, Right Wing Death Cars, Right Wing Race Cars?
Why include political agenda? Because it will scare normies away and hopefully the board won't be filled with "you're given a racecar you can't sell it what do you choose" and bench racing and actually have people who know something about cars. Being good with cars requires some autism, normies don't have it. You don't have to post "it's da joose" 24/7, just have a firm stance on the subject. Besides, I don't see the point in pandering to the left since the majority of this site is right.
Without the memes the board won't fly.

I agree with >>11460
>Why include political agenda? Because it will scare normies away
It will also scare away users who just want to talk about cars. Like I said, I'm okay with political discussion as long as it doesn't derail a thread. If you want to talk about general politics, go to /pol/. I don't want Aut/o/ to turn into P/o/litically Incorrect.
>and hopefully the board won't be filled with "you're given a racecar you can't sell it what do you choose" and bench racing and actually have people who know something about cars.
A better way to do prevent that would be to maintain substantial discussions and not circlejerk like >>11272 wanted.
>I don't see the point in pandering to the left since the majority of this site is right.
Being neutral because this is not a politically focused board is not pandering to the left.

In case you haven't closely observed the site, /pol/ has grown exponentially, in the last few months, when it was thought to be already dying out, after the inauguration, with plenty of it's posters being shared with any other board. In other words, if anyone's come here, then they've come for /pol/.
You can't just leave a policy blank, when the issue is arising in prominence. I suggest you make a policy for this type of discussion, rather than lay idly by, until it becomes an issue too big to solve.

f1f13f No.12588

>/pol/ has grown exponentially
No, it hasn't. Yes, it did grow during the general election - iirc the active userbase (according to the index, which isn't precise because it just counts unique IPs and plenty of people post from multiple devices or networks) roughly doubled. That isn't exponential.
>if anyone's come here, then they've come for /pol/
Even if this were a valid argument, /pol/ and /v/ are the two biggest boards and are about the same size, so you would have to say that they have come from /v/ as well.
It isn't valid for a couple of obvious reasons.
Firstly, just because /pol/ is one of the biggest boards doesn't mean that everyone there posts on other boards. I bet half of /pol/ users spend all or most of their time on the site on /pol/ only. Same likely goes for /v/. that doesn't happen much on smaller, slower boards like /o/ because they are smaller and slower.
Secondly, /v/ posters don't expect to or want to post about vidya on other boards they frequent, do they? Why should they? /v/ is for vidya. /v/ posters posting about vidya on /fit/ would be told to go back to /v/. Why would it or should it be any different with any other boards?
Besides that, we've had (and I have started/participated in) political discussions about /o/ related topics, the most recent being >>12469 .
Board-related political discussions happen on every non-politically focused board I've been on. /v/ has threads about gamergate. /tech/ has threads about net neutrality. /k/ has threads about gun legislation. /o/ is no different in that regard.
>You can't just leave a policy blank
Does /v/ have a stated policy on political discussions? No, because the main topic of the board that everyone can clearly see is "vidya" (it's in the title), and all the threads are about vidya. Anyone who isn't a massively autistic faggot understands that that means it's a vidya board for vidya things and posting non-vidya related content is retarded and will result in you being told to go back to /yourboard/. The same goes for the other boards I mentioned above, /o/, and every other board on the site.
>when the issue is arising in prominence
You're acting like /pol/ hasn't been around and one of the biggest boards since the site originally gained popularity, and as I said earlier the active users didn't much more than double over the past 6 months (and that was only due to the election). No other board gets overrun with /pol/fags because of that.
>until it becomes an issue too big to solve.

You guys pulled this with /v/ too; for the most part, the hobbyists on this site want politics-free discussion.
Personally I just want the atmosphere of forums 15+ years ago back; where we could discuss a variety of topics, and mods were concerned with making sure nothing went too far, not being Rules Nazis whose sole goal is to make moderation as simplistic as possible.
Not everything is political. Hobbies are my way to avoid avoid the idiots fighting over whatever stupid topic is pertinent this week. If it's relevant to the topic, it's fine, but political threads should be the exception, not the rule. Simple as that.

>roughly doubled
>that isn't exponential
The time has come to be reasonable.
>you would have to say that they have come from /v/ as well
Yes, they do. There's even an occasional /ogc/ general that pops up, in which the board occasionally bleeds through.
>just because /pol/ is one of the biggest boards doesn't mean that everyone there posts on other boards
Quite the contrary. Before the election season even began, it was discovered that /pol/ itself made up a lot of interboard traffic, on the site itself.
>/v/ posters don't expect to or want to post about vidya on other boards they frequent, do they
>>11822
Again, though bringing video games into everything is perfectly reasonable, bringing political debates into everything is completely different.
>besides that, we've had (and I have started/participated in) political discussions about /o/ related topics
Exactly. The politicisation is already becoming evident, even if slowly. Before the place becomes overrun with an inevitable war between the two /pol/s, something must be stated.
>the active users didn't much more than double over the past 6 months
That is something to worry about, since you already mentioned that /pol/ held a majority on the population even before such massive growth.
>>12589
>the hobbyists on this site want politics-free discussion
What the hell do you think I'm going on about? It's the lack of policy that will specifically lead to anything but that.
>I just want the atmosphere of forums 15+ years ago back
You ever heard of "eternal september"? Ain't gonna happen.
>if it's relevant to the topic, it's fine, but political threads should be the exception, not the rule

>roughly doubled
>that isn't exponential
No, it's not. I don't like to get too semantic but x*2 is not x^y.
>/ogc/
And that is an example of where two boards' interests cross paths. Same for the /o/-related political discussions aforementioned. But those instances make up only a small portion of content on most, if not all boards.
>/pol/ itself made up a lot of interboard traffic
It would be interesting to see the source on that. Was it shown that specifically /pol/ users made up a lot of traffic, or simply that most people posted on both /pol/ and other boards? If the latter, then it doesn't necessarily mean that /pol/ users make up most of the traffic - only that many users from other boards also post on /pol/.
>the one vidya thread in the catalog that only three people posted in and then died
Another example of two boards' interests crossing paths. It obviously didn't get off the ground, probably due to the OP being obscure and not really related to irl autos. Regardless of that, the only reason it got any serious replies is that it was /o/ related. '"If someone posted a Nintendo Switch General here they would be told to fuck off."' The same goes for any purely political topic. >>9934 is an example of something that is politically related and did get off the ground eventually, and generated some interesting on-topic discussion.
>though bringing video games into everything is perfectly reasonable, bringing political debates into everything is completely different.
Neither of those are reasonable.
>politicisation
It's not politicization, it's /o/-related topics being discussed on /o/. Auto industry regulation is a major issue plaguing auto enthusiasts and manufacturers alike. There are only a couple remotely political threads here that I can think of, and very few non-political threads that have turned political.
>Before the place becomes overrun with an inevitable war between the two /pol/s
>That is something to worry about
/pol/ has held a large part of the site's traffic for as long as I can remember. AFAIK 8/o/ has been around since the site gained popularity. Was it overrun by a "/pol/ war" then or any time between now and then? Has any other board, especially a niche one like /o/? No.
>jot that down as a rule
I'm not making a rule about political discussions because I know that no one is stupid enough to come here, post completely off-topic shit, and expect it to go anywhere but the end of the catalog. I also know that if someone is somehow that stupid, it won't end up anywhere but the end of the catalog.
I now regret wasting so much of my time replying to you, because I could have just given you those last two points and told you to fuck off - like I'm doing right now.

>You ever heard of "eternal september"? Ain't gonna happen.
The entire point of 8chan was to roll back Eternal Summer and to prevent hotpocketeers from abusing their powers to kill fun. Admins used to encourage hijinks, and rules were meant to be broken, not enforced rigidly.
Maybe you're just phrasing things awkwardly, because it seems to want to ban stuff, but also not?
So far, you're the only person I've seen on this board discussing politics, and if we need a containment thread in the future, then I'm sure a happy balance can be found. Creating rules where none are necessary just backs everyone into a corner; setting precedent with action and building a community that has a consensus on what is and isn't acceptable behavior is more important than laying nuanced groundrules early-on.
The biggest reason for Eternal September/Summer was an influx of new users. The solution isn't more rules: it's building the community slowly and not being afraid to let them make mistakes so they can learn from them.
I've seen ban-happy forums and relaxed forums, and the one thing they all have in common is that the community sets the mood more than the moderators do, and no amount of rules has ever stopped a community from being trash. Likewise, no amount of moderation guidelines has stopped a mod team from overdoing it for free. The only thing that has ever stopped them has been an admin who intervened and undid something stupid, and that never lasts forever.
Enjoy it, contribute meaningful non-political posts, and lead by example.

>I don't like to get too semantic but x*2 is not x^y
It is still x*2, which is indeed a very noticeable transformation.
>those instances make up only a small portion of content on most, if not all boards
Such could be said, at first, but if you look into boards like /v/, /co/, and /tv/, you'll immediately notice threads that are simply made to rant on about politics, with flaming from the other /pol/ within it. That's something I don't want to see happen to this board, within the near future.
>it doesn't necessarily mean that /pol/ users make up most of the traffic - only that many users from other boards also post on /pol/
Except that means they post on /pol/, and unless they're the ten or so regular people that get banned for saying the wrong thing, they're the types saying the usual stuff, that are just needed to have the slightest talk of anything political to speak out their heart's content.
>'"If someone posted a Nintendo Switch General here they would be told to fuck off."' The same goes for any purely political topic.
That rule would be best followed, if it were made official, rather than simply being an unspoken one.
>neither of those are reasonable
Anyone could make such discussions on any board, with the subject of "x vidya". Fitness vidya, comic/cartoon vidya, political vidya, etc. The same being done with politics leads to a different kind of discussion, which will no doubt lead to a skub fight between the two board's influence.
>there are only a couple remotely political threads here that I can think of, and very few non-political threads that have turned political
You don't start up a fire department when something goes ablaze. You do it to begin with, to prevent it.
>has any other board, especially a niche one like /o/
It's not going to blow up in your face. I'll tell you that, but the subtext is very noticeable, when you go into just about any board that tries to play neutral. Threads going on about degeneracy/classism, with posts within showing bickering between the two groups. At least you can enjoy the extra traffic, if you leave it unchecked.
>no one is stupid enough to come here, post completely off-topic shit, and expect it to go anywhere but the end of the catalog
You seem real sure about that.
>>12603
>the entire point of 8chan was to roll back Eternal Summer and to prevent hotpocketeers from abusing their powers to kill fun
In case you haven't heard of Jim, the new proprietor of this site, that experimental phase has long since been over.
>maybe you're just phrasing things awkwardly, because it seems to want to ban stuff, but also not
Come again?
>creating rules where none are necessary just backs everyone into a corner; setting precedent with action and building a community that has a consensus on what is and isn't acceptable behavior is more important than laying nuanced groundrules early-on
It's hoping those communities can hold themselves together by mere word that leads to disarray. Among the voices calling "faget", there are always more responding with "sekrit club" that just grow in number, and overwhelm. This is why mods exist. The problem isn't the presence of rules, but what they do.
>the solution isn't more rules: it's building the community slowly and not being afraid to let them make mistakes so they can learn from them
That's exactly what happened to /v/, and that place is absolutely impossible to bear, now.
>I've seen ban-happy forums and relaxed forums, and the one thing they all have in common is that the community sets the mood more than the moderators do, and no amount of rules has ever stopped a community from being trash
Of course it isn't the amount of rules, but what they do. Taking care of shitposts and obvious trolls is the first, yet mostly ignored step.
>enjoy it, contribute meaningful non-political posts, and lead by example
Again, trusting a community to hold onto that, when no one has the authority to stop people from disobeying it is fruitless. An anarchic utopia.

>You seem real sure about that.
I am. The barely on-topic shitposts don't get any replies, why would off-topic ones?
>when no one has the authority to stop people
As the BO I have the ability to do whatever the fuck I want. In fact, if you were having a similar conversation with a /pol/ or /leftypol/ BO or volunteer you'd probably be banned. If we get raided by /pol/tards I'll ban them and delete spam threads. But that won't happen.
I'm not going to waste any more time picking apart your replies. Based on your post history and grammar patterns, you are the only /pol/tard here and have been for as long as I've been on this board.
We've been experiencing a plateau/decline in user count for over 6 months. Even if there were a danger of being "overrun by a /pol/ war" (there isn't), there is no reason to believe it will happen any time in the remotely foreseeable future. We are more likely to be raided by twingo-posters from half/o/ (also not going to happen).
The bottom line is that /o/-related political topics are totally fine, and off-topic spammers will be dealt with as they would on any other board. That seems to go without saying for everyone here except you.

How was my OP obscure? It was about vidya cars, in my case/the OP the Ibishu Covet from BeamNG.

>Ibishu Covet
What I assume to be a renamed-for-copyright JDM car, the real version of which few have likely heard of anyway.
>BeamNG
Fairly obscure, even for an /o/ game.

Everyone knows the Civic but the image you posted in that thread doesn't look like any Civic I've seen. That's irrelevant though.

The 3-door Covet is supposed to be like the EF Civic and the Mitsu Colt/Mirage, I guess:

Oh, and I am running AR162B's 5-door mod, it's the closest thing to a Justy in Beam.

I prefer this instead.
Just kidding, of course. I don't approve of tripfagging that much.
