I hope clean transportation methods would be on the rise to travel short distances. In a more cynical view, obesity rates would skyrocket further due to people being too lazy to get up without using a portal.
Is magic in this universe limited or abundant? A sudden increase in the use of magic by humans and monsters may entail a reduction in the availability of it, or the regulation of how many portals can be opened at a given time.
And let's be honest, with the potential for privacy violation both between humans and monsters, and the warfare/economic potential, portal use may end up heavily regulated. The oil and energies industry would love to get their hands on portal use and regulation to charge per use.
