e4d144 No.368994

A long-overdue thread, and there's plenty to discuss. Along with the most beautiful and gracious goddess of Hawaii, Poli'ahu, there are also three other sister snow goddesses of hers that act as her ladies-in-waiting: Waiau, a bathing goddess, Kahoupokane, the Hualālai Mountain kapa maker goddess, and Lilinoe, the goddess of fine mist that dresses Poli'ahu's hair into being cloudlike like that as well as being the goddess of Haleakalā, dead flames, and sadness.

https://vacations.hawaiilife.com/blog/big-island/myths-legends-poliahu-snow-goddess

http://www.aeluvhula.com/poliahu-goddess-mauna-kea/

Native Hawaiians also had a big list of deified animal ancestor beings that were part of their lore, each with their own names for each type. One of the most well-known is probably the mo'o, which was a usually-female pitch-black lizard that is sometimes equated as being Hawaii's dragon equivalent given their size. They could shapeshift into humanoid females too. There are even legends about them attempting to rescue poor men from being volcano thot's lover.

https://mauimagazine.net/the-sacred-spine/

http://visitcryptoville.com/2015/09/30/hawaiis-moo-tiny-gecko-seductive-woman-or-water-dragon/

The list of 'aumakua include but may not be limited to:

>honu: sea turtle

>moʻo: gecko, lizard, or dragon

>pueo: owl (on Manoa, Oʻahu, Kau and Puna)

>manō: shark (on all Hawaiian islands)

>ʻalalā: crow (on island of Hawaiʻi)

>ʻio: hawk (on island of Hawaiʻi)

>ʻelepaio: monarch flycatcher (also the goddess of canoe makers)

>ʻiʻiwi: honeycreeper (whose feathers were used extensively in featherwork)

>ʻalae ʻula: Hawaiian gallinule (whose cry was considered a bad omen)

>heʻe: octopus

>puhi: eel

>ʻiole liʻiliʻi: mouse

>ʻiole: rat

>ʻīlio: dog

>peʻelua/ʻenuhe/nuhe/ʻanuhe/poko: caterpillar

>pōhaku: rock

>leho: cowry

>ao: cloud

>mea kanu: plant

As you can see, there's a huge list of potentially new monstergirl types and Hawaiian variations of already-established monster girls to discuss and make OC of, including shorks. Maybe not the greenworm though, considering the Hawaiian Carnivorous Caterpillar exists and isn't even green.

Additionally, there are the menehune, which were a race of mischievous, hairy architect-dwarf people of about two feet tall (though some were apparently six inches tall) said to have built things like the Alekoko Fishpond in a single night. They also seem to have been able to use cupid-like powers. So a menehune girl might be a bushy-eyebrowed dwarf of minigirl that, upon falling in love with you, builds an entire additional wing of your house for children by the time you get home.

https://www.to-hawaii.com/legends/menehune.php

There's also apparently someone who makes a bunch of menehune dollgirls over here.

So, with all of this said, what's your favorite Hawaiian mamono, /monster/?

Probably because they don't do their research and think Pele is burning up members of a blue state out of some sort of good will rather than simple thottery.

There really is a ton of unexplored potential with this. Not to mention we could also possibly discuss what glacies look like when you color them with shaved ice syrup.

I remember an old thread that discussed regional variants of monster girls. There was talk of a Hawaiian Pineapple dryad, a dullahan with a tiki for a head, a surfing p'orc and a tall muscle crab girl.

A long time ago on this board, in a thread for coming up with new monstergirl species, I wrote about a subspecies of dullahans that were headless due to the head having been destroyed or lost before the body monsterized, and relied on using inanimate objects for a head analogue. The newborn ones, being still comparatively weak in terms of mamono mana, could only use and manipulate living organic matter as heads, like root vegetables or freshly picked leaves. The longer they lived and the stronger they got, the more materials they could use for heads, such as graduating to leather hoods or bone masks. The strongest could use completely inorganic materials like porcelain, so their "nobility" equivalent would go around wearing beautifully sculpted porcelain masks with inlays or gold, silver, and other valuable metals. As long as they were strong enough to manipulate the material, they could change its expression as freely as a human could change theirs. The more eccentric nobles/elders would even wear featureless masks with patterns or designs painted on them in lieu of patterns, and there was the occasional strong headless dullahan who just preferred root vegetables for whatever reason and would continue using those as a head. Lacking a natural head when they monsterized, the mamono mana didn't stay concentrated in their bodies long enough to give them the same levels of physical strength and endurance of a regular dullahan, but their spellcasting and mana manipulation is higher due to a combination of having to practice at all times the control of their mana so it doesn't leak constantly and so they can manipulate their replacement head, as well as having a pervasive cloud of mana around them. Essentially, they're spellblades to the regular dullahans' knights. A regular dullahan has a smoky aura spouting from their neck seam. A headless dullahan has the same effect to a greater degree, and it seeps downwaed around their body like a light shroud of fog.

I can see Tiki girls having that same effect, but the mana cloud is more like a sparkling mist, the kind you can experience going deep into a tropical jungle, carrying the smells of primal life and clear water. And if you look at just the right angle with the light behind it, it lights up gloriously with a brilliant rainbow arc.

Also they start all their sentences with "Like the Ancient Hawaiians said…" and have an unusual affinity for brightly colored, oversized shirts and cargo shorts
