“Whatever you’re fixing on doing isn’t going to work you bloody cow!” you bellow, with the memory of Pat and Dei Gratia fresh in your mind. Pat chuckles while stepping closer

“Just what are you going to do? After shagging that beast you’re as magically innate as a-” You tackle your sister to the ground, knocking the wind out of her before the charmed morons have a chance to react.

A little concentration on Pat’s mana streams attached to them is all you need to end her manipulation “Ego negare!” you belt out before your sister forces you off her. Most of the men look at each other dumbfounded at what’s going on. “This idiot succubus charmed you to use you lot as bodyguards” you huff while srambling back to your feet. Nearly all of them mutter monster related slurs and some choice four letter words, but disperse. Save for three of the bigger ones who seem to know each other.

One man accosts Kelley as they stomp over to her, with Pat taking the opening to lunge at you “How!? I know you’re laying with an abomination, you shouldn’t be able to do it!”

“Must’ve been all the time we spent growing up with you giving me immunity!” you snarl, getting back into the thick of it. The pair of you collapse awkwardly, your head hanging over the street curb during the tussle.

A bus flies by, blaring its horn as you whip your head out of its path at the last second. “If that’s how you want this fine by me” you spit while locking your free arm around your sister’s neck. Not ideal, but it’ll do until you roll away from the First damned road. At least you can fire a glance to see if Kelley’s in trouble.

The three remaining men look like they’re blaming Kelley for some of it. “You’re a fucking liar. Do you think some nasty ass winged lizard is capable of anything without that magic bullshit?” one of them yells.

One of the other men starts to smile as he gets the attention of the other two “Maybe it’ll show some fear if we kick the shit out if it”

“I’m in” one replies.

The other one shrugs as he answers “Sure”

“Better make it count the first time” the dragon says with a low voice.

To their credit they do exactly that. Too bad they’re trying to win against a dragon. The closest man takes a resounding crack to his face, spinning him on the spot before he falls unconscious. One of the others tries to tackle her, only for Kelley to thwart his attempt, balancing with the help of her tail. She hammers her fist into his back, the second assailant crumples from the sickening crunch leaving him crippled and screaming in agony. Her final assailant lands a surprise blow to her temple, but the sucker punch doesn’t do what he hopes. Unfazed, she drives her heel into his thigh with a snap, shouting over the third man’s screams “I told you to make it count, you maggots! Not waste my bloody time”

Meanwhile, you begin laying into your sister after buffing yourself, you’re not in the mood for any of this shite. Patricia tries to defend herself, but when she shields her face, you pummel her ribs. If she covers her midsection, you aim for her head. After a few more solid hits all Pat does is wave around trying, and failing at defending herself. You barely notice a flash of ruby enter your vision before it tears you away “Pat can’t fight any more, drop it lad”

Still boiling over with rage, shoving Kelley to the side, charging towards the succubus “Stay out of my way you twat” You rear your arm back but something spins you backwards. Next thing you know you’re facing Kelley before crumpling to the ground unable to breathe.

“You’re not going to the clinker on my watch” the dragon tells you after that incredibly painful punch. Kelley looks like she hears something, likely Patricia. “Pat. If you so much as move a hair, I’ll do you l did those wankers that tried to bash my head in” Kelley says, with her fists clenching tight “Am. I. Clear?”

“You’re not an archbishop any more, and you’re even more of an abomination than I am. What makes you think I’m going to listen?” Pat spits, returning to her feet.

Shite. Pat might still be able to use negation in spite of being a succubus, you realize. “Kelley, don’t let her get near!” you shout while Pat begins to dive towards the dragon. The former archbishop hears you, and floats over her with a well placed flap of her wings.

Patricia crashes onto the pavement missing her mark. You focus your attention on your sister briefly, attempting to gleam anything that can put this farce to an end. Forcing yourself to your feet is difficult, but you still manage as the last thing you need is to deal with the consequences of being in Pat’s range. Thankfully, you hear a familiar goat’s voice in your head before the succubus regains her bearings “Hey cutie, noticed your little sis is being difficult. She still has negation in case you were wondering, and the rest of her magic was given a nice little boost from turning into a monster. Pat’s also learned a few succubus only tricks too. What I don’t understand is why she’s being this horrible. Something may be throwing a spanner in the works. Can’t help too much because I’m in it up to my neck right now, but have enough time to pass this on”

And you called your sister an idiot. You never bothered to suss things out to see if there was anything amiss. Sure, you two have had it out over the years as siblings do, but what you’re doing now is pure insanity. You did enjoy giving her the business for trying to turn you over to Dei gratia though, no sense in ignoring that bit. However, if there is something you could detect you’ll need to be quick about it. CivSec sirens appear in the distance, and they get louder with every second. Somebody probably called them the second things went to the pit.

You lock eyes with Pat in a standoff, both of you deliberating your next move. Much like you, she’s gained a few new tricks, but it looks like she doesn’t have the same ones you do. Thank the First for that miracle, she’d be hell to deal with if she’s becoming whatever you’re going to be.

“Whatever we do we better hurry up lad. CivSec’s sending the CTU” Kelley warns, landing beside you.

Great, this just keeps getting better and better. It’s bad enough that this ugly fight is happening with innocent sentients around. Worse, you don’t have much time to examine anything before the counter terrorism unit arrives. Not your first time in a hot mess you muse, as you run through a few options. Could try to run and hide, CivSec still isn’t close enough to see you disappear. Another option involves finishing what Pat started before they arrive, if she’s incapacitated then there’s no more threat. Maybe working things out with them can be done? Perhaps the CTU won’t come out with phasers blaring, although that’s a risk. If the CTU has decided the lot of you are terrorists they won’t bother with words.

“I want to believe the lineup in the deli is why you’re late coming back, but I had a premonition that says otherwise” Makoto’s voice says from your shadow.

“How long have you …” you ask, without looking away from Pat.

“Only a few seconds, I don’t think I need to stalk my own husband. But I might start if things like this keep happening” the vixen sighs, emerging from your shadow to stand near you with Kelley.

Well, shit. Seems that this little situation is turning into something else. Patricia is hell bent on revenge, and CivSec’s counter terrorist unit is going to be there eventually. Talk about no fun allowed, sheesh! So what happens next, /monster/?

Take a moment and attempt some of that divine omnipotent clairvoyance of yours. Maybe there’s an underlying reason things are going to pot so quickly.

Get away from the situation and back to the shrine before CivSec arrives. If the CTU gets involved staying a free man may involve some less than savoury tactics.

Try to finish the fight before CivSec arrives. Not only do you owe Pat quite a bit for what she’s tried, it would leave no grounds for the CTU to detain you.

Attempt to throw your newfound political weight around. There has to be something in the law books you can use to your advantage, and perhaps Makoto can chime in since she would know something about this.

MECHANIC UPDATE

Peter negated Pat’s charm cast (10 points), and used his buff during the fight (3 points). Peter is now at 27 out of 40 mana points.

Peter’s buff will last until end of next entry for those who are wondering.

Finally, if you think I'm so full of it my eyes are brown then suggest an alternative course of action if you want. Also, I really gotta remember to add the part about /monster/ suggesting shit to the last post without forgetting.

We need to act quickly. While making it clear that Peter is talking about himself, loudly and clearly ask Makoto what the legal repercussions are for attempting to murder the Emperor of the Tsuki no Hikari? Then ask Pat if she'd prefer to suffer those repercussions? Or would she rather avoid that mess altogether and quickly leave with us? Tell her you are only giving her this chance because she is family.

Regardless of her answer, we'll need to quickly escape the area, potentially using Makoto's shadow movement to quickly escape the crowds. Time permitting, if Pat stubbornly refuses to come with us, then see if we can't quickly knock her out. Have Makoto bind her with shadow binding, then light step behind her and give her a knock out blow. Then have Kelley drag her along with us.

If there isn't enough time to attempt to capture her, then there just isn't enough time. We can only do so much, even if she is family. If there isn't enough time, then just leave her for CTU to deal with. Hopefully she'll be smart enough to come with us, or we'll have time to capture her. Then maybe we can learn why she has such a huge stick up her ass.

Your sister begins concentrating mana to do something, but Makoto trains several shadow spikes millimeters from Pat’s neck in an instant “Whatever you plan on doing: don’t. That’s your only warning”

Another few seconds pass before everything is awash in sirens, CivSec must’ve been giving their cruisers the business to get here this fast. Wise to what’s going on the vixen’s shadow vanishes before the law gets closer. Soon after, a pair of large atmo cruisers joins the rest of the officers. Judging by the militarized look of the sentients cordoning off the area they must be the CTU. There goes any plan of leaving here without trouble.

“Down on the ground, now!” one of them commands, as the law keeps their distance with phaser rifles trained on everyone. “Dragon and succubus: raise your arms above your head slowly. Now” an armour clad gazer demands. Kelley complies, but not without rolling her eyes for all to see. “Wrap your wings around your waistand lie down slowly” the officer barks while training a few eyestalks on you. “Human, inari, place your hands behind your back and lie down slowly”

“Isn’t this just great” you mumble before reluctantly taking a knee.

The gazer turns a nearby sidewalk patch into a smouldering heap with one eye stalk while staring at you with the rest of her eyes “Disobey again and I assume you’re hostile. That goes for all of you. Nobody move, and nobody speak unless the CTU is addressing you directly” Why in the name of the First did CivSec have to send out these twats anyway? They’re as friendly as Pat’s been these past few minutes, without the satisfaction of giving them a good knock about the ears.

Several pairs of boots announce the arrival of CivSec personnel near you. After an unwelcome hand in your trousers takes your wallet, you manage to overhear the hushed deliberation “Emperor and Empress Callahan of the Hayashi clan?”

“Yes, that’s us” the vixen snaps impatiently.

“You can get up. Sorry about the confusion, we didn’t think this was something political. I’ll need to speak with each of you after we arrest those two”

“What? Kelley didn’t do anything. She was with me before we came here!” you point out in frustration.

“Oh? Which one is Kelley?”

“The dragon” you reply in annoyance.

“Before CivSec releases her we need to do our job. While you say she didn’t do anything that’s for us to decide. Wait in this spot and don’t move, otherwise my unit will assume you’re hostile” the gazer informs you before walking back to one of the cruisers.

“Why in the name of the First were these tossers called?” you wonder out loud.

“Whoever called CivSec must’ve said there was a dragon involved. There’s no way regular officers can handle a monster like a dragon by themselves safely” Makoto replies.

“This is true” you agree, recalling the ease which Kelley recovered from her nasty time on Rasowa. Llumian medical technology worked for its dinner that day, but you doubt lesser sentients could walk off being crushed the way Kelley was. Not that you’re excusing the CTU’s behaviour … but it gives a bit of insight.

A few minutes pass before Kelley joins you in a huff “CTU is filled with annoying gits. Damn near arrested me for defending myself. They better finish up quickly because I bloody well want some lunch”

“Well, looks like we won’t be here much longer. They’re arresting your sister” Makoto says quietly.

The gazer returns with a few CTU members, with one of her subordinates busy with a scancorder “I know the assailant is your sister, but I need to ask: do you two believe this assault to have any political motives?”

“I don’t think so” reply curtly.

“That’s all then. You three are free to go”

“I might regret asking this but what are you doing with my sister?”

“She’s being taken into custody. Fifteen sentients were charmed to commit a felony. Between the emergency call and the scancorder readings? She won’t be a free monster much longer. Take care to stay on the outside of the barrier with the inujred human men, we still need to arrest them. Thank you for your cooperation” the gazer finishes, as she returns to what CivSec has to do.

“Right then. So how does the law work with this” you ask Makoto, nodding your head in Patricia’s direction.

“Two years. One year for conspiracy to commit a crime, and another for charming someone to do it. But that’s for only one sentient. Was that gazer serious about how many men she charmed?”

“I think there were at roughly fifteen men, so yes” Kelley adds hesitantly.

Makoto sighs and shakes her head “She’s going to be in jail for a while. I can guarantee that. But there’s still work we need to do involving Kurenai and I’m close to finding something. I’m not making light of it all, but need to get lunch and get back to the shrine”

“Aye. Might as well get something. If I’m going to suffer through life a little harder today may as well do it on a full stomach” you exasperate, shaking your head as everyone walks into the deli.

Lunch in tow, you walk back to the shrine with Makoto and Kelley. After you trade your shoes for indoor slippers your wife examines you with concern “You’ve been the wrong kind of quiet since we were waiting in line for lunch”

“Everything went to pot in the blink of an eye. My idiot sister decides that murder is a sign of familial affection and I damn near get arrested myself” you exasperate.

“Monsterized human women never take to it well. I wish I could say different but a lot of them deal with it poorly. The shrine has more files than I care to think of on this sort of thing, since trying to help them is one of the things we do. But I do have to stand by Minako’s decision to treat Pat as hostile. For better or worse she’s now attempted to seriously hurt … or kill you … twice. As one of the shrine’s Empresses? I can’t allow her to set foot in one as long as she lives for the attempted assasinations”

“Understandable, but still, it’s harsh. It’s my fault she ended up turning”

“There’s two more things I need to add. Sister in law or not, she wanted to harm MY husband. No monster even if they’re out of their mind will tolerate that. Now after all that’s said I’m going to be clear on this. I still agree with you. Everything about this is awful”

“I’ll work through it. Just wishing things would be different. But I’ll stew over this while eating if you don’t mind. My stomach’s going to be telling us its opinion on this soon” you groan, noticing its growl.

“Too late. Already heard it grumbling on the way back. Let’s get in, the others are probably waiting” Makoto agrees, ruffling her fingers through your hair. The pair of you join the rest and get some food in you.

After lunch, you stand in a shrine office with Makoto and Minako, with a database on a wall screen. “I admit, Fuyumi offering you the title instead of me stings. But with what you’ve put yourself through the past few months you’ve earned it” the elder kitsune congratulates.

“Thanks Minako” your wife replies.

“Any time. Fluffball”

“Argh!”

“But your tails are really soft …” you let slip with a smirk. A sharp, but playful smack on your ass catches you by surprise. “Keep that up you’ll be on your way to a tanned bottom”

A lecherous grin creeps onto Makoto’s face in response. Well, shite. Should’ve seen it coming you muse “Can we sort out the Kurenai business before you start thinking about sex?”

“Sure. Can’t start thinking about sex if I don’t stop thinking about it in the first place”

“Why do I try …” you groan.

“Because you’re a silly man” the vixen says, kissing you before turning her attention to the screen. “I can’t access all of the information on Kurenai. For Empress knows why her file information is only available to us, Fuyumi, and Kaito. Even then we need to be in Sapporo to access its contents. I don’t know how we’re storing it, but there must be a reason”

“Bloody hell if it’s not one pain in the arse then it’s another”

“At least there’s a matrix gate on Tropoce if you really need it” Minako points out.

“Can’t say I’m too familiar with them” you muse, your experience with them limited to sending parcels from Landirei.

“Or you can call in a favour from the llumian cadre, the matrix gate might not have a time slot open. But I have to go to the shrine in Coppork, the shirohebi from Makoto’s shrine is taking the priestess exam. Don’t want to hit Rociro traffic on the way” Minako says, bowing lightly before taking her leave.

You follow Makoto’s lead and return the bow, and wait for the elder kitsune to leave the shrine. “So what thoughts bouncing between your ears lass?” you query while your nine tail shuts the office door.

“Minako has a point. Llumian ships would beat out the matrix gate, it would only take two days or so if we did”

“But if the matrix gate isn’t busy it’s basically instant. Problem is it’s always busy from what I gather”

The vixen drums her fingers on her chin with the other hand pulling up a metaweb schedule “Hmm. Looks like we’re looking at up to a week if we want the gate”

“That answers that at least” you observe as you take stock of how much time you have relative to what Alex said. There’s roughly six and a half weeks left before things start looking like a dog’s dinner. Question is, how do you get to earth from here? There’s asking the llumian cadre for assistance for starters. You don’t know why they were so quick to offer help to certain parts of humanity and monsterdom though. The matrix gate is a guaranteed instant trip once you use it. Problem is you’re waiting at least a week to use it. Also doesn’t help that the star systems in your immediate area are at the tail end of Perseus’ arm. If you weren’t so bloody far from everything else you’d just hop on any old ship to get there. However, ‘any old ship’ means human and monster tech. Sure, it’s a definite guarantee but that trip will be around two and a half weeks long. You don’t want Tim having any more prep time than you’re forced to.

Hey, Peter found out a little more about Kurenai. Seems that the shrine has information, but it’s sensitive enough to be kept offline. More importantly, how will Peter deal with not being on earth to see said information?

Wait for a slot to open in the matrix gate’s schedule. It’s going to be insufferably busy but this portal type transportation is reliable beyond fault. Since the matrix gate is instant this has the chance to make up for the fact Peter may need to find another way back here.

Ask the llumians for a spot of help. Minako, and by extension Makoto, may not be best friends with llumians of importance but they are on a first name basis at least. Between that and the llumian distaste over the politics some of the universe is up to you should get help.

Get aboard an interstellar federation ship. Time may be of some concern but getting a seat on a ship is about as difficult as hailing a cab. Slow but guaranteed may be slow, but it’s also guaranteed. Not to mention Peter can always get a round trip without hassle.

Call Fuyumi and see if she can’t get the information in your stead. The echidna isn’t going to say no because Hayashi fluffballs and Chisako gachanoodles may as well be blood related as Fuyumi said. JOLLY COOPERATION would make it easier to plan the likely needed trip to earth as well.

Or if there's a SOOPER SEEKRIT OPTION X that I forgot to mention type the autism out as usual.

How long would an Ilumian ship take to get us to Earth? If it’s a shorter wait than the matrix gate I say we do our best to secure one of them. They sound like the best bet. If they’re gonna be coy with us despite our diplomatic power then we can spend a week preparing for the jump through the matrix gate. Do we have a chance to gather up some body guards in the form of friends? (Powerful shrine monsters, maybe some contractor buddies)

If this information about Kurenai is important I have a feeling someone else might know about it and I don’t want us to be caught with our pants down. I doubt fluffball or the shrine in general would mind extra security in this matter, we are the emperor and empress after all.

As an aside we also need to consider our approach on Timmy boy, don’t recall if we ever discussed it. What kind of resources or cooperation could we expect from the factions outside of our shrine and civsec (if they’re in)?

I'm liking this idea of taking the Ilumian transport more and more. I hope we can prioritize that over using the gate. I'd like to get their opinions on this whole mess with these universal state encoders. I expect they have heard of them. Perhaps they might be willing to assist us. But regardless, I'd like to work out getting Cogni to assist us in the future fight with Tim.

It's also probably a good idea to ask Fuyumi about Kurenai and see if she can give us any additional info. We should meet with her, once we arrive in Sapporo, if that isn't too inconvenient for her.

I get it now after reading their MGE entry. Fuyumi must not have been the 1st child of an echidna, because of her unusual coloring. Only an echidna's 1st child is a lamia with their distinctive appearance of bluish skin and green hair and scales. The following children have a random species and appearance, even in never before seen combinations.
