The most important part of a monarchy is finding the right person to be the monarch, how would one go about this?

Although blood is important, worthiness i more. See >>74.
If your country does not have an established royal line, look for royal lines of the people who founded it.

Not exactly, as some rulers that overthrew the last one would get too high and do weird things. Also the overthrowing is never really needed - most of them did for lust of power.
A ruler should not have lust for power, he should have lust for knowledge.

A few options:
>Let soldiers decide
Whoever can sway the preexisting military to their side takes the throne. No need for bloodshed unless the army becomes evenly divided. The monarch's expected to take charge of the army anyway.
>Elective monarchy
Like a presidential election, except electing president-for-life. No political parties, everyone an independent. Could be a clusterfuck.
>Electoral College
A body of qualified candidates chooses one of their own, like the College of Cardinals for Pope. Though that just shifts the question to who gets to be one of the cardinals…
>Existing Claim
Get geneaologists and historians to track down whoever has the faintest claim to legitimate rule over the territory you're talking about. Might turn out to be some nobody (or possibly worse, someone already king of somewhere else), but it's not that crazy, this has actually happened in the real world when nations decided they wanted a king (or wanted to change the one they had…)
>Random Selection
If you really believe the ones best suited to power don't seek it, or that people thrust into greatness tend to live up to it, this might not be so bad. For extra fun don't exclude criminals and the mentally ill.

Whoever fulfills the necessary legal criteria to seize legitimacy should be the monarch.
In general, this starts with becoming the democratically-elected ruler.
For instance, if Trump were to convince Congress to pass a resolution proposing a Constitutional Amendment to reform the Presidency into a monarchical Emperor of the United States, and gain the support of the necessary 38 states as submitted to the Archivist of the United States, then the United States would become a monarchy ruled by Trump. Likewise, if the Parliament were to transfer the Crown back to the Sovereign, UK would become a de facto monarchy again, and the same goes for other crown republics.
In cases where nations have multiple potential monarchs, the solution varies. In one instance, Brazil has two monarchical lines. One is a republican, so the Monarchists there have picked the other candidate for Emperor purely because he would accept the Crown. They wish to have him elected via referendum, in accordance with Brazilian law. This is acceptable, as one potential line is corrupted and is not capable to rule.
In another case, Russia has several contenders for Emperor: Maria Vladimirovna Romanova, who is the primary contender but often regarded as illegitimate due to the fact her grandfather committed high treason by joining the Bolsheviks in February 1917; the RFA, which supports a democratic election to determine the Emperor, (Given most of its legitimates are far too old to actually govern, with their current #1 being over 90, this means they'll probably run a younger guy.) and has the support of the political establishment, or at least the Yeltsin family, if I'm correct; and the House of Leiningen which keeps trying to purchase islands in Kiribati and shit, and is not a serious contender for the Imperial throne, despite claiming a micronation of the same name. The RFA's election suggestion works here. Vladimir Putin could become the Emperor if he had children to continue his line, but for political purposes, he doesn't.
As for France, I'd say Louis XX.
Furthermore, if monarchs who accomplish reigning status do not outlaw abortion (some exceptions tolerable), they should not be regarded as actually governing the nation.

>Let soldiers decide
This is clearly how any dynasty starts.
Later this becomes implicit and is often taken forgranted.
A state exists wherever it maintains de facto and de jeure (in fact and law) overwhelming force and the right to exercise it (created by propaghanda/media).
As a libertarian neo-feudalist (making an-cap real again), I think that when the title-deed to land is owned– not what we think of as land 'ownership' today which is really just leased/rented from the state– it is possible to declare oneself Monarch of that territory… but if you lack the millitary force to defend your territory, it may be expedient to pledge your allegiance (a mutually agreed upon contract) to another more powerful Monarch in return protection.
Alternatively, you could organize or join a convention of equals in a confederation for the purpose of mutual defense.
Personally speaking, when it comes to selecting the heir to my Title(s) I would choose from among my children. But I think there is no one method that is best for awarding/revoking Titles. An individual title could have a constitution defining the method of awarding/revoking title, or it could simply be left up to the current holder to determine the method of selecting a successor. If a Title becomes wholey subordinate to superior Title, giving up all rights, it could be dissolved a moments notice.
The reason for creating wholey subordinate titles, is to have a single individual or family resident in that territory to manage it for you. You could appoint on of your children, or a gifted administrator the title to manage said territory.
The benifits of this kind of feudalism decline when superior titles enforce more and more common laws on their subordinates. Whereas the system thrives when superior titles are 'hands-off' and only intervene when absolutely nessisary, often just replacing the Title holder. The benifit here is that an individual Title territory can be (in theory) be administered and governed (what laws are in effect) in the best way possible for the situation.

On the one hand, I want to argue how you've gotten rid of one of monarchies' greatest benefits (i.e., that you've made the system so that only the monarchs who want power are those who get it). On the other hand, you've described a system of government that–like the meme says–would literally make anime real. Goddammit.

Pretty much the Democracy that we know today. As another commoner pointed out, its the rule of elected demagogues.
Where these Politicans say anything and everything to appeal to the Majority of the people. Sterotypically, they make promises to redistribute wealth away from others to make everyone "more equal" (See every American Politican in Modernity)
Pic related: my personal favorite demagogue that (probably) would have restructured the US into a Monarchy for the Long Family…had he not been assassinated.
