Maine sheriff’s deputies unleashed a wall of gunfire at a suspect who was reportedly handcuffed and wearing a hospital gown — but still managed to jump behind the wheel of a police cruiser and drive away.

The footage shows the end of a harrowing pursuit, which involved the man engaging in a running gun battle with police that shattered peace in a rural area about 20 miles northwest of Lewiston.

Footage from the confrontation on Route 117 in South Paris shows the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office blocking all lanes as a person climbs out of a vehicle that was stopped off the road, CBS 13 reports.

As the suspect, who has yet to be identified, moves towards an adjacent squad car, officers can be heard yelling, “Put your hands up!”

The suspect does not comply and instead rushes to open the sheriff’s office SUV, triggering one officer to fire a shot.

The suspect then closes the door and starts up the squad car, with deputies firing another shot.

But once the car begins to move, the officers appear to unload their weapons at the driver as the vehicle disappears from view.

The suspect was then quickly arrested and taken to the nearby Stephens Memorial Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

His condition was not immediately clear.

Linda Marie Mercier, a witness, told ABC 8 that police had been in a shootout with the man, who was reportedly handcuffed and wearing a hospital gown.

“They’ve been shooting back-and-forth. I’m not sure if he’s been apprehended or not, but he came running out of the ditch and jumped into another police vehicle and they had to chase him some more,” she said in a Facebook post.

“Have some video it’s good up until the point where he comes out of the ditch in his handcuffs and hospital gown, but once the bullet started flying, unfortunately I duck down behind my car so I didn’t get any more footage, but you can hear it.”

The Maine Attorney General’s Office has opened an investigation into the shooting, as per state protocol for any police-related shooting.

A Manhattan prosecutor heading up the “hush money” case against former President Donald Trump was a political consultant for the Democratic National Committee (DNC) in 2018 — and once donated to Barack Obama.

The DNC paid Matthew Colangelo $12,000 in January 2018 for “political consulting,” Federal Election Commission filings show, and the prosecutor also donated $400 to Obama’s first presidential campaign in 2008.

Colangelo, formerly the third-ranking official in President Biden’s Justice Department, joined Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s office in December 2022 as senior counsel in the criminal case against Trump.

The prosecutor’s paid work for the DNC were first reported by Fox News Digital.

Bragg became the first of several prosecutors to indict the former president for alleged election interference in March 2023, charging Trump with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records about the “hush money.”

The six-figure payments were allegedly concocted with Trump’s ex-legal fixer, Michael Cohen, to cover up past affairs the then-presidential candidate had with porn star Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal.

During opening arguments last month, Colangelo told jurors that Trump and Cohen participated in a “criminal scheme to corrupt the 2016 election,” — even though the case is not federal and the payments to reimburse Cohen weren’t made until after Trump took office in January 2017.

House Republican conference chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY) thundered that the filings were more evidence of a politically motivated prosecution against Trump.

“I just uncovered that the Far Left NYC prosecutor sent from Biden’s DOJ to arrest President Trump was PAID BY THE DNC,” Stefanik posted on X. “This is ILLEGAL ELECTION INTERFERENCE.”

Colangelo previously served in the Obama administration as deputy director of the president’s National Economic Council, chief of staff at the Department of Labor and deputy assistant attorney general in the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division.

In April 2017, Colangelo also collaborated on an op-ed with then-DNC chair Tom Perez that ripped Trump for tanking efforts to automatically enroll private-sector workers in local government retirement plans.

The piece also accused Senate Republicans of “blowing up two centuries of precedent to ram through” Neil Gorsuch’s confirmation to the Supreme Court in April 2017.

Around the same time, Colangelo authored another op-ed and hosted a forum at Georgetown University knocking the Trump administration’s decision to roll back other Obama-era regulations — including a reversal of Title IX discrimination protections for students based on gender identity.

The Biden administration has since brought that Title IX rule back.

Colangelo went on to serve in the New York State Attorney General’s office, assisting on an investigation of the Trump Foundation and signing on to a lawsuit against Trump’s Commerce Department that opposed adding citizenship questions to the US Census in 2020.

Bragg’s office announced in December 2022 that Colangelo was hired to handle “sensitive and high-profile white-collar investigations,” among other duties.

The study fills in a big gap in what they call “the water story on Venus.”

Using computer simulations, the research team found that hydrogen atoms in the planet’s atmosphere go whizzing into space through a process known as “dissociative recombination” – causing Venus to lose around twice as much water every day compared to previous estimates.

The findings, published in the journal Nature, could help to explain what happens to water in many planets across the galaxy.

Study co-lead author Dr Eryn Cangi, a research scientist at the Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP), said: “Water is really important for life.

“We need to understand the conditions that support liquid water in the universe, and that may have produced the very dry state of Venus today.”

She explained that Venus is “positively parched”.

The researchers explained that if you took all the water on Earth and spread it over the planet like jam on toast, you’d get a liquid layer roughly 3 kilometres (1.9 miles) deep.

If you did the same thing on Venus, where all the water is trapped in the air, you’d end up with only three centimetres (1.2 inches).

Co-lead author Dr Michael Chaffin, a research scientist at LASP, said: “Venus has 100,000 times less water than the Earth, even though it’s basically the same size and mass.”

The research team used computer models to understand Venus as a gigantic chemistry laby, zooming in on the diverse reactions that occur in the planet’s swirling atmosphere.

They found that a molecule called HCO+ – an ion made up of one atom each of hydrogen, carbon and oxygen – high in Venus’ atmosphere may be behind the planet’s escaping water.

Dr Cangi says the findings reveal new hints about why Venus, which probably once looked almost identical to Earth, is all but unrecognisable today.

She said: “We’re trying to figure out what little changes occurred on each planet to drive them into these vastly different states.”

Dr Cangi says Venus wasn’t always such a desert.

Scientists believe that during the planet’s formation billions of year ago itreceived about as much water as Earth.

But, at some point, clouds of carbon dioxide in Venus’ atmosphere kicked off the most powerful greenhouse effect in the solar system, eventually raising temperatures at the surface to a roasting 900 degrees Fahrenheit.

In the process, all of Venus’ water evaporated into steam, and most drifted away into space.

But that ancient evaporation can’t explain why Venus is as dry as it is today, or how it continues to lose water to space.

Dr Chaffin said: “As an analogy, say I dumped out the water in my water bottle. There would still be a few droplets left.”

However, on Venus almost all of those remaining drops also disappeared.

The researchers explained that in planetary upper atmospheres, water mixes with carbon dioxide to form HCO+.

Previous research has suggested that HCO+ may be responsible for Mars losing a big chunk of its water.

In the new study, the researchers calculated that the only way to explain Venus’ dry state was if the planet hosted larger than expected volumes of HCO+ in its atmosphere.

But scientists have never observed HCO+ around Venus.

The research team suggest that’s because they’ve never had the instruments to properly look.

Fewer spacecraft have travelled to the second planet from the sun, and none had instruments capable of detecting the HCO+ that powers the team’s newly discovered escape route.

Dr Chaffin said: “One of the surprising conclusions of this work is that HCO+ should actually be among the most abundant ions in the Venus atmosphere.”

NASA’s planned Deep Atmosphere Venus Investigation of Noble gases, Chemistry, and Imaging (DAVINCI) mission is due to drop a probe through the planet’s atmosphere all the way to the surface. It’s scheduled to launch by the end of the decade.

DAVINCI won’t be able to detect HCO+, but the researchers are hopeful that a future mission might – revealing another key piece of the story of water on Venus.

Dr Cangi added: “There haven’t been many missions to Venus.

“But newly planned missions will leverage decades of collective experience and a flourishing interest in Venus to explore the extremes of planetary atmospheres, evolution and habitability.”

The head of a radical activist group who urged anti-Israel protesters at Columbia University to channel the deadly Black Lives Matter riots of 2020 is a career agitator who spent “years” in the socialist haven of Cuba, The Post can reveal.

Manolo De Los Santos, the 35-year-old leader of the Midtown-based nonprofit The People’s Forum (TPF), came to The Bronx from his native Dominican Republic at age 5 and has made a career of spurring protests on the streets of New York City.

He first traveled to Cuba in 2006 and was there as recently as March to demand an end to the US blockade against the socialist state which has been in place since 1962.

As TPF’s executive director and de facto mouthpiece — a role he’s held since 2018, according to his Facebook — the writer, organizer and public speaker is as known for his zealous support of left-wing causes as he is for his repugnant public statements.

De Los Santos, who declined to speak to The Post when approached outside his Hell’s Kitchen home Monday, has in the last year alone hailed Hamas’ Oct. 7 terror attack as “heroic,” called for Israel to be “erased from history” and eagerly welcomed the impending “defeat” of the “US empire.”

He has been a longtime advocate for Cuba, which he first visited as a teenager with a progressive religious group called Pastors for Peace and which he was later based out of for “many years.”

When he wasn’t denouncing “US hegemony” from the shores of Cuba, De Los Santos was causing trouble across the Big Apple, participating in numerous disruptive street protests and giving provocative speeches laced with incendiary anti-Israel rhetoric.

“When we finally deal that final blow to destroy Israel, when the state of Israel is finally destroyed and erased from history, that will be the single most important blow we can give to destroying capitalism and imperialism in our lifetime,” De Los Santos said in January in front of a cheering crowd in a now-viral video.

His remarks were so vicious that South Bronx Rep. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) denounced the speech as “Nazi rhetoric,” and called for Goldman Sachs, whose philanthropy arm used to direct funds to TPF, to cut ties with the organization — which also has links to the Chinese Communist Party.

“Thousands of Israelis were massacred, maimed, mutilated, abducted, raped, and tortured at the murderous hands of Hamas,” Torres wrote, referring to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

“[Hamas] espouses the kind of genocidal ideology that The People’s Forum has been caught promoting as ‘the final blow,’ which is strikingly similar to Nazi rhetoric about a ‘final solution,’” he continued.

Shortly after, De Los Santos penned a defiant missive on the TPF website in which he refused to apologize and dismissed the media’s labeling of his words as hate speech as “a propaganda trick by the apologists for genocide.”

Less than two weeks later, on Jan. 27, De Los Santos was among 10 protest leaders cops busted on a day of anarchy across the city in which hundreds of anti-Israel demonstrators descended on Manhattan, partially blocking the Brooklyn Bridge and attempting to “flood” JFK Airport in Queens.

In between street marches and railing against the evils of capitalism, De Los Santos uses his extensive social media presence — which includes more than 31,000 followers on X — to post glory shots of Hamas members accompanied by reverent missives lauding the terror group’s actions.

On Oct. 7, the day Hamas launched its bloody terror attack against Israel that killed more than 1,200 men, women and children, De Los Santos shared a Hamas propaganda video showing terrorist paratroopers gearing up for the cowardly assault against the Jewish home state.

A few weeks later as the battle in Gaza raged on, he posted an image of Hamas fighters raising automatic weapons in celebration.

“Victory to those who resist Zionism! Victory to those who fight as the bombs fall in Gaza! Victory to those who defend their people from Israel’s war crimes! Victory to all who mobilize, march & act in solidarity with Palestine! Resistance until Victory! Palestine will win!” he wrote accompanying the image.

Reached by email late Monday afternoon, De Los Santos didn’t directly address any of The Post’s questions about what if any role he played in fomenting campus unrest at Columbia.

Instead he offered a deflective statement rejecting characterizations that the campus protests were violent, blaming the police for being the true “source of the violence.”

He also praised student demonstrators for their “courage” in risking “suspension, expulsion, arrest, loss of housing and so much more.”

“They are seeing their own schools and tuition money supporting an ongoing genocide and doing everything they can to stop it.”

Former Georgia Lt. Gov. Geoff Duncan urged his fellow Republicans to vote against the party’s presumptive presidential standard bearer Donald Trump and back President Biden instead.

Duncan, 49, who was in office during Trump’s 2020 election machinations in the Peach State, voiced his deep dismay at top Republicans coalescing around Trump, 77.

“This mentality is dead wrong,” he wrote in an op-ed for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Monday. “GOP will never rebuild until we move on from the Trump era, leaving conservative (but not angry) Republicans like me no choice but to pull the lever for Biden.”

The former lieutenant governor stressed his desire to see the GOP lock down majorities in both chambers of Congress to scuttle Biden’s second-term agenda.

He then rattled through familiar grievances with Trump such as the Jan. 6, 2021 Capitol riot, election denialism, as well as his “conduct and his character.”

“I get it. No one likes paying higher taxes, and these protests are unsettling,” Duncan wrote. “Trump has shown us who he is. We should believe him. To think he is going to change at the age of 77 is beyond improbable.”

Since his ascension to power in the Republican Party, Trump has managed to overpower scores of GOP critics and even win many of them over.

Trump has taken shots at Duncan in the past and called him a “failed” lieutenant governor last year. In August of 2023, Trump suggested that Duncan shouldn’t testify before the Fulton County probe investigating the 2020 election.

The 45th president faces a now-10 count indictment out of Fulton County for alleged 2020 election tampering in Georgia. He has denied wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty.

Duncan appeared to flirt with No Labels, a group that explored the possibility of recruiting a candidate outside the duopoly to compete with the Republican and Democrat presidential nominees.

Ultimately, he declined an invitation to helm the party and No Labels has since announced it wouldn’t crown a standard bearer in the 2024 cycle.

Duncan also made waves in 2022 when he announced that he wouldn’t vote for either incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) or Republican former football star Herschel Walker in the midterm elections.

Despite his penchant for bucking convention, Duncan describes himself as a true Republican.

“Unlike Trump, I’ve belonged to the GOP my entire life. This November, I am voting for a decent person I disagree with on policy over a criminal defendant without a moral compass,” he added.

The Post contacted the Trump campaign for comment.

The Biden-Harris campaign wasted little time promoting Duncan’s op-ed, lauding him, and emphasizing that the president is welcoming disgruntled Republicans to his camp.

“Our campaign welcomes and is actively reaching out to Americans like Geoff Duncan, who put their country and concern for protecting our democracy before blind loyalty to Donald Trump and his self-centered campaign of revenge and retribution,” campaign spokesperson James Singer said.

“Lt. Governor Duncan and those who share his values of preserving American democracy, standing up for the rule of law, treating each other with decency and dignity and respect, and working to find common ground have a place in President Biden’s vision for America.”

A globetrotting jewelry thief suspected of ripping off swanky stores in Beverly Hills, Miami and South Korea is now behind bars following heists at Cartier and Tiffany in New York City, The Post has learned.

Yaorong Wan, 49, was busted in Manhattan last week after he allegedly jacked diamond rings — which had a combined value of nearly $300,000 — from the world-renowned jewelry stores, prosecutors said.

His sticky-fingered crime spree included the theft of an $18,000 watch from a London Jewelers in Manhasset on Long Island last month, according to the criminal complaints.

Authorities are also eyeing Wan — who has a red notice out on him from Interpol — for similar heists at a Tiffany’s in South Korea, an Hermes store in New Jersey and Cartier stores in Beverly Hills, Calif. and Miami, Fla., law-enforcement sources and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office said.

The NYPD’s Major Case Squad tracked Wan to a Queens apartment building on 40th Road on Friday, where they arrested him and slapped him with two counts of grand larceny for the Manhattan thefts, police sources said.

The arrest appears to have ended Wan’s years-long criminal caper, which took him halfway around the world and left his pockets heavy with stolen rings and watches, police sources said.

His wild jaunt appears to have started in September 2018, when he hit a Tiffany’s in the South Korean capital of Seoul and made off with a $330,000 diamond ring, sources said.

He took a few years off, then came to the US last December and quickly began fleecing stores throughout the country, according to the sources.

In January, he allegedly strolled into a Cartier store in Beverly Hills and left with a $48,000 diamond ring and a watch worth $10,000 that he conveniently forgot to pay for, sources said.

Then he came to the Big Apple, where he allegedly hit the Tiffany & Co on Fifth Avenue in Rockefeller Center on March 4 and the Cartier store at 20 Hudson Yards on March 12, according to the complaints.

At Tiffany’s, Wan waltzed in at about 3 p.m. that day and asked the woman behind the counter about several pieces of jewelry, the court documents allege.

He eventually settled on a diamond ring, which was valued at a whopping $255,000.

Wan allegedly held the ring, looked it over, handed it back and left the store, the complaint said.

But the ring he returned wasn’t the same one the employee handed him — even though she thought it was.

About a week later, the store was doing a routine inventory when workers found out the allegedly genuine ring was, in fact, a counterfeit cubic zirconia stone mounted on 18-carat white gold, the complaint said.

That was a far cry from the pricey original, which was a natural diamond mounted on platinum that was engraved, hallmarked and had a unique code attached to it, according to the complaint.

When investigators watched surveillance footage from that day, they saw the defendant examine the ring — then allegedly slip it into his palm in a bit of sleight-of-hand trickery and offload the cheaper fake.

Store workers had photographed the ring on March 5, and none of the engravings or hallmarkings were present, the complaint said.

On March 12, he allegedly engineered a similar magic trick on an employee of the Cartier store in Hudson Yards.

That day, Wan walked in at about 1:30 p.m. and asked to look at two engagement rings and two watches, investigators said.

The employee handed him the diamond rings, then got distracted, according to the complaint.

That’s when Wan allegedly handed back one of the rings, but slipped the other — valued at about $25,000 — into his pocket before taking off.

The caught-on-camera heist was his second big score in just eight days.

Sources said he then went to Miami, where he allegedly lifted a $16,000 watch from a Cartier store on March 24.

Then he came back to the metropolitan area, where he pilfered the glitzy watch from Manhasset on April 19 and two watches — worth a combined $17,000 — from the Hermes store inside the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford on April 26, sources said.

In the Long Island case, investigators say Wan was perusing watches at the London Jewelers on Northern Boulevard when he slid a Chopard watch into his left jacket pocket, the complaint said.

Then he strolled past the registers and out the door, according to the complaint.

When he was arrested, Wan allegedly had three watches that he stole from Manhasset and New Jersey, as well as the fake stones he used to swap with the legitimate pieces, sources said.

He pleaded not guilty at his Saturday arraignment in Manhattan Criminal Court, and a judge cut him loose on supervised release, according to the complaint and police sources.

But afterward, authorities sent him over to Nassau County, where he was locked up on $500,000 cash bail for the watch theft and an outstanding warrant out of East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Wan pleaded not guilty to a charge of third-degree grand larceny in Nassau District Court on Sunday morning, according to online court records. His next appearance is slated for Tuesday morning.

He’s also scheduled to be back in Manhattan Criminal Court on May 14, according to court records.

Neither the Miami Police Department nor the East Rutherford police responded to requests for comment Monday.

Former White House press secretary Jen Psaki defended President Biden’s irregular press conferences and infrequent interviews Monday, arguing that the commander in chief would be better served going on “The View” than engaging with political reporters.

“The benefit of the media environment right now — there’s a lot of challenges, but I’m going to start with the optimistic side — is that there are so many choices,” Psaki said during an appearance on the ABC News gabfest.

“When you’re communicating from the White House, I mean respect for freedom of speech and freedom of the press is important, but you’re also just really trying to communicate with the American people, right? So my view is he should come on ‘The View’ before he does a press conference,” she continued.

Biden, 81, has held the fewest formal interviews and press conferences of any modern president.

A tally kept by Martha Joynt Kumar, director of the White House Transition Project, shows Biden has given just 89 total interviews during his first three years in office and held just three solo White House press conferences — 33 when joint appearances with other world leaders are counted.

By comparison, former President Donald Trump had given 300 interviews and conducted 54 pressers at the three-year mark of his presidency.

“I think press conferences are important, but I also think him doing Howard Stern, that’s an interview that reached a broader audience of people,” Psaki said, referring to Biden’s lovefest last month with the former shock jock.

Psaki, now an MSNBC host, also praised Biden for appearing on the “Smartless” podcast, which is hosted by actors Will Arnett, Jason Bateman and Sean Hayes.

The president’s interview with “Smartless” — recorded March 28 while he was in Manhattan for a gala Radio City Music Hall fundraiser — wasn’t released until last week, a full month after it was recorded.

The craziest thing “about former President Donald Trump’s trial in New York is that we do not know precisely what crime Trump is charged with committing,” muses the Washington Examiner’s Byron York.

E.g., the data show that 81% of voters back letting Medicare negotiate drug prices, and among those, 72% support the use of “existing presidential power to stop illegal migrant crossings at the border.”

Notably, “the big shift toward Trump occurs precisely among those who both support an aggressive Medicare role” and the use of presidential powers to stop illegal border-crossing.

Oh, and those who back the bigger Medicare role also oppose Democratic approaches on police and climate change. “There’s a lesson there for Democrats should they care to take it.”

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology ending “the use of diversity statements for faculty hiring . . . is momentous,” cheers John Sailer at UnHerd.

Such mandatory statements force would-be hires to endorse the pernicious DEI agenda; “pushback” against them had so far “succeeded almost exclusively at public universities in red states, encouraged or enacted by lawmakers.”

But “the decision at MIT is different — reform from within, prompted by a university president alongside deans and provosts.”

“It’s very possible that more private universities, and state universities in blue states, will eventually follow MIT’s lead,” since “a significant number of faculty from across the political spectrum simply cannot stand mandatory DEI statements.”

Anti-Israel protesters vandalized a World War I memorial in Central Park on Monday and burned an American flag after a mob of more than 1,000 marchers was blocked by cops from reaching the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where the star-studded Met Gala was in full swing.

At least one America-hating vandal torched Old Glory at the site of the 107th Infantry Memorial, the base of which was defaced with graffiti reading “Gaza” in large black letters.

Others plastered the statue’s bronze soldiers with stickers of the Palestinian flag that read “Stop the Genocide. End the apartheid. Free Palestine.”

Some of the protesters climbed atop the infantrymen and waved Palestinian flags or draped them over the figures.

The anarchy near the corner of Fifth Avenue and East 67th unfolded with no cops in sight as a large police presence had mobilized about 15 blocks north at the Met to ensure one of the biggest nights in fashion wasn’t crashed by any anti-Israel protesters.

Another Central Park monument, the Civil War Gen. William Tecumseh Sherman bronze statue in Grand Army Plaza, was also vandalized Monday night.

“Free Gaza” was graffitied in red letters on the base of the memorial and a Palestinian flag was affixed to its front.

Earlier in the evening, about two dozen anti-Israel protesters were arrested near Madison Ave and East 83rd Street as a massive swarm of demonstrators marched from Hunter College toward the Met, according to police sources.

The crowd, part of a “Day of Rage” protest organized by the Palestinian activist group Within Our Lifetime, had trekked north on Fifth Avenue — blocking traffic along the way — before cops stopped them at the East 79th Street Transverse in Central Park.

“Disclose, divest, we will not stop, we will not rest,” the group chanted as they waved Palestinian flags and wore keffiyeh face coverings.

Despite setting their sights on the glitzy event — which has long been expected to be the target of demonstrations — the demonstrators could not reach the iconic art museum.

Cops managed to divert the crowd into Central Park before blocking the exits, where they remained at a standstill and confused about how to progress.

“This is an exercise in futility at this point. There’s nowhere for them to go,” a cop attempting to corral the crowd was heard telling his partner.

The protesters then filed out of the park and were within sight of the Met, but dozens of police formed a blockade — standing two cops deep — preventing them from heading north.

“Is that the Met?” one protester asked a friend. “Oh no, we were so close.”

The group tried to reach the museum again by turning down East 81st Street but was again stopped by more police barricades at the intersection with Madison Avenue.

Soon after cops met the protesters head-on three blocks uptown and began making about two dozen arrests. Officers were seen tackling at least one woman to the ground while someone chucked a water bottle at the cops.

“Who do you serve? Who do you protect?” the group shouted in a chant at the cops.

Earlier in the evening, several pro-Israel supporters showed up at Hunter College to face off with people they accused of “supporting terrorism.”

“All these people are ignorant, uneducated and blindly following each other. It feels like we’re back in World War two,” said 17-year-old Jewish Upper East Sider Elena Bakhchi.

The two opposing sides engaged in screaming matches on the campus while cops warned demonstrators that they could face arrest for “unlawfully walking in a roadway.”

Across town, nearly 1,000 pro-Israel demonstrators gathered in Riverside Park in support of Jewish students at colleges like Columbia University.

The rally coincided with Yom HaShoah, the day of Holocaust remembrance.

Jewish Columbia students denounced an uptick in antisemitism they said they witnessed on their college campus.

“Today, we stand here 91 years and three months since Hitler was appointed the Chancellor of Germany and 79 years since the last death camp was liberated. Since then, we have all had two main responsibilities. Never forget. And never again,” Columbia sophomore Elisha Baker said.

“Never forget is about the past. Never again is about today, and it’s about tomorrow. For us, this means doing everything in our power to prevent antisemitism from becoming normal in society again,” he continued. “I am here today because I am watching antisemitism become normal in my own backyard. For the first time in my life, it truly feels that never again is right now.”

The Israeli ambassador to the UN, Gilad Erdan, compared the anti-Israel protests to “modern-day Nazis” in a shocking speech at the rally.

“Words are being weaponized to spread bigotry, to incite violence, to inflame the targeting of Jews. Columbia, Harvard and UCLA are new hotbeds of Nazi-like ideology, branding Israel as the root of all evil and the Jewish people is a global scourge,” Erdan said.

He said the hypocrisy of protests shows they are not liberal activism but are antisemitic.

“Did we see encampments to protest Russia’s war crimes in Ukraine? Did rioters barricade buildings to protest Assad’s brutality in Syria? Did we see Chinese students attacked because China is torturing Uyghirs? Were quads vandalized while Iran murdered women and protesters?” he asked, before answering his own question with “Of course not.”

He called on “Jews across the United States and around the world” to divest from universities that allow antisemitism to spread, demand students who use violence be expelled, and blacklist every academic institution that shows tolerance for terror.

“This Yom HaShoah, ‘Never Again’ has taken on historic importance,” Erdan said. “Never again means taking action, and the time for action is now.”

The latest NYPD academy class will put 576 new city and MTA cops on the streets and in the city subway system – including some second-generation officers.

The ceremony at Madison Square Garden on Monday consisted of 430 new male officers and another 146 women who will now wear a badge in the Big Apple, the department said.

Police said 63% of the graduates call the five boroughs home, with 54 members of the new class having served time in the military – and bringing 34 different languages to the beat.

The graduates include 33 Metropolitan Transportation Authority officers – including at least three who received their badges from their cop dads, the transit agency said.

The academy puts would-be cops through a rigorous six-month training regimen.

Mayor Eric Adams said last month that he expects to bring the ranks of the NYPD up to 35,000 after a significant period of diminishing numbers since the start of the pandemic.

Through June 30 of last year, 648 officers had quit before their scheduled retirement dates — a 22% jump over two years earlier when 530 left the force and an 87% bump from 2020, when 347 quit.

As of last month, the NYPD had 33,695 sworn officers on the force.

Meanwhile, the city’s police union praised the new class of police graduates but said City Hall has to do a better job recruiting and keeping cops on the job.

Israel is finally moving to put an end to Hamas: On Monday, it began its long-awaited military operation in Rafah, after dismissing a claim that the terror group had accepted a cease-fire deal as a ruse.

Hamas’ political chief, Ismail Haniyeh, announced that his group had agreed to a deal brokered by Egypt and Qatar, yet Israel’s war cabinet said Jerusalem was pushing ahead with its Rafah plan anyway, calling the cease-fire proposal “far from Israel’s obligatory demands.”

Hamas was surely stalling. Yahya Sinwar, Hamas’ military commander in Gaza, knew an Israeli Defense Forces invasion of Rafah was imminent, and must’ve been trying to buy time to get himself and his leadership out of Dodge, and/or simply delay the inevitable: the fall of Rafah.

Indeed, Hamas is clearly in trouble. Its last bastion of defense in Gaza is now squarely in the sights of the IDF.

Despite President Biden’s repeated efforts to publicly deter Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from destroying Hamas in Rafah, Israel is not going to agree to any cease-fire that allows Hamas to survive to fight another day.

Bibi continues to vow he’ll pursue Hamas until it’s destroyed, no matter what — with or without a deal.

Hamas, meanwhile, had reportedly claimed the United States, alongside Egypt, would guarantee Israel would permanently withdraw from all of Gaza as part of the cease-fire and that Israel ostensibly said it would stand down after the return of all of the surviving hostages.

Neither are plausible.

Essentially, Hamas wants to go back in time to Oct. 6 and call it a war.

Again, hostages or not, Israel is not going to do that.

Hamas, as a military threat to Israel, will be destroyed and Rafah ultimately seized by the IDF.

And Sinwar, Haniyeh and even their benefactor, Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, all know that.

Netanyahu shutting down Qatari-owned Al Jazeera on Sunday was also notable from a battlefield-information standpoint.

The Israeli Prime Minister declared that it was “time to remove the Hamas mouthpiece from our country.”

Moreover, Biden’s decision to place a “hold” on US ammunition shipments to Israel last week was highly significant and foretelling. It’s strong evidence the White House, too, knew Israel was set to act.

Then came the IDF’s order telling 100,000 Palestinians in eastern Rafah to evacuate to nearby Muwasi.

The limited 100,000 figure is significant.

Israel War Update

Get the most important developments in the region, globally and locally.

It suggests the IDF is likely to take a sector-by-sector ground and air approach in Rafah, replicating the divide-and-conquer strategy it has deployed since Oct. 7.

By piecemealing its ground operations, Israel is likely attempting to temper or forestall any adverse Biden administration response, while systematically accomplishing its goals.

Biden has warned of consequences for Israel if the IDF begins operations in Rafah absent adequate plans to safeguard Palestinian civilians.

Yet, Israel is determined to defeat Hamas with or without the White House’s support; it has no choice.

Not just to wipe out the remaining Hamas cadres but because Rafah, which borders Egypt, is key to Hamas’ weapons-smuggling.

And make no mistake: The IDF knows how to prosecute this battle in ways that not only to assure victory but also minimizes civilian casualties — despite the enormous difficulty of fighting in an urban setting with more than 1 million residents among whom Hamas has fighters have embedded (if they’re not hiding in tunnels).

By needlessly emboldening Sinwar at the negotiating table in Cairo, Biden, in part, forced Israel’s action in Rafah as the only means of Jerusalem ending this phase of its wider war with Iran.

Publicly threatening Israel with sanctions on IDF units, increasingly criticizing Jerusalem’s kinetic war on Hamas and having Democrats in general — including Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) — calling for Netanyahu’s ouster are all proving self-defeating, in terms of Hamas and Iran.

Those efforts are now boomeranging on Biden.

Sinwar and Khamenei, of course are more than willing to shed more Palestinian (and, if possible, Israeli) blood to battle the Jewish state.

Rafah, consequently, is caught in the crosshairs of a perfect storm of Sinwar, Khamenei and Biden’s making.

Biden needs to wake up and read the room: Israel is not our enemy; Hamas and Iran are.

Sinwar wants his Götterdämmerung-like moment.

Khamenei views Gaza as one more front in which to try to destroy Israel.

And Israel views its war against Hamas as just the beginning phase of its existential war with Iran.

Apollo Global Management and Sony’s bid to buy Paramount Global faces significant hurdles to get the deal past Democratic-led federal regulators amid antitrust concerns, The Post has learned.

Paramount – which ended exclusive merger talks with Skydance Media last Friday – owns the CBS network, its Hollywood studio and 28 local stations – including 17 CBS affiliates in markets like New York, Chicago and Los Angeles.

Apollo, which teamed with Sony to make a $26 billion all-cash bid for the Shari Redstone-controlled media conglomerate, faces an uphill fight to circumvent the FCC’s 39% cap on the reach by local affiliates should the merger be approved by Paramount’s board, multiple sources told The Post.

Apollo owns TV channels that reach 11% of US households through its stake in cable company Cox Media Group, a media investment banker told The Post.

Meanwhile, Paramount’s local stations account for a 39% reach, according to the banker – putting the total of the combined company well above the FCC’s threshold.

“Competitors may point out that Apollo’s ownership will exceed the 39% national ownership cap, which in itself is a regulatory anachronism but is nevertheless a real thing at the FCC,” Adonis Hoffman, who served as the agency’s senior legal advisor and chief of staff from 2013 to 2015, told The Post.

Apollo, however, is banking on an arcane FCC loophole called the “UHF Discount” – which cuts in half the percentage of households counted by stations with channels in the UHF bandwidth – to get below the cap, a source familiar with its thinking said.

Under the discount – passed in 1985 and revoked in 2016 before being reinstated the following year by then-Republican FCC Chair Ajit Pai – Paramount only reaches 25% of households and Cox about 5%, according to the investment banker.

Pai pushed through the UHF Discount in 2017 days before right-leaning Sinclair Broadcast Group announced an agreement to buy Tribune Media, which without the discount would have put the combined company well over the cap.

But there is a significant chance the FCC scraps the UHF Discount because Joe Biden-nominated Chair Jessica Rosenworcel believes it is outdated, several sources said.

“The FCC created the discount, so it can eliminate it,” said Benton Senior Fellow Gigi Sohn, a progressive Democrat whose nomination to be an FCC Commissioner fell apart last year.

Sohn pointed out that there is precedent for reinstating the cap to help a merger, so it could also be eliminated to stop a deal.

“[Eliminating] the UHF discount could … be considered, particularly if there is a proposed acquisition that places the issue before the FCC by relying on the discount to comply with the ownership rules,” said lawyer David Oxenford in a blog post that did not specifically mention the Apollo offer.

Should the FCC get rid of the UHF Discount, the agency could ask for Apollo or Paramount to divest some of the channels to get below the threshold instead of outright blocking the merger, sources said.

Presently, there are overlaps in three of the markets in which Paramount and Cox serve, the banker said.

The Apollo and Sony bid could also face scrutiny from the Committee on Foreign Investment in the US (CFIUS), which might not be comfortable with a Japanese company owning CBS.

There is further worry that the Federal Trade Commission could step in to prevent Sony, which has its own film division, from scooping up a second movie studio.

Hollywood mogul Jeffrey Katzenberg said Apollo faced a “high bar” to attain FCC approval for another reason. PE firms have held broadcast licenses both for TV and radio – though never for one of the big three national networks.

“The FCC is going to allow a private equity firm to take that license? Just think about that,” Katzenberg, a key Biden advisor, said during an “Axios BFD Talks” event on Sunday night in Los Angeles:

“This is the license to operate the No. 1 broadcast network in America, which the FCC has an absolute right to approve. And they’re going to say that there’s a benefit for that being in the hands of private equity? I don’t know. That’s a high bar, particularly in the regulatory environment right now.”

Apollo, led by Marc Rowan, has already had a potential merger between Standard General and broadcast station owner Tegna essentially killed by Rosenworcel.

The firm helped finance the bid by Standard General, but the FCC decided last year not to vote on the proposed merger, leaving it to wither away.

Rosenworcel was uncomfortable with Apollo controlling Tegna and Cox, even though Apollo claimed it would be a passive Tegna investor, sources said at the time. Also, she was not keen on a private equity firm gaining such a big foothold in television broadcasting, the sources added.

Standard General sued the FCC in March, alleging the agency discriminated against its offer because it preferred to have African-American Byron Allen owning Tegna.

The FCC “seems to have no tolerance for private equity-backed media ownership, as shown by its recent disapproval — and utter disrespect– of the Standard General bid to buy Tegna last year,” Hoffman said.

“As for timing, the FCC has shown that it really knows how to slow-roll a deal. The 180-day merger shot clock, which is a guide not a rule, has been ignored at the will of the Chair. None of these signs would bode well for an easy or early approval of an Apollo bid.”

Hoffman noted that the FCC is currently trying to force Nexstar Media Group to fully divest from New York’s WPIX-Channel 11 which it was supposed to divest in a recent merger, but allegedly did not.

“It’s at least a window into the thinking of this current FCC,” Hoffman said.

Bosses at top advertising firms are facing heat over a video in which they praised TikTok in a slew of gags and comic vignettes – just days after Congress passed a bill that would force a sale or ban of the China-owned app.

The tone-deaf, 75-second video circulating on LinkedIn since Saturday shows executives from Havas, IPG Mediabrands, Horizon Media, Publicis Group, GroupM and dentsu — with each making pitches and cracking jokes on why using TikTok is the “key to scaling your brand’s success.”

In one segment, IPG Mediabrands’ Dani Benowitz pretended to be distracted by her phone while being filmed, calling audience engagement “TikTok’s superpower.”

“Of course we know TikTok is more than Gen Z — how else would do you explain that I’m always bawling my eyes out over heartwarming dog videos?” said Publicis Media CIO Shelby Saville before fake-crying into a tissue.

“We’re in media, of course discovery on TikTok made me buy 50 transparent collapsible shoeboxes,” Havas CEO Greg James said in yet another segment.

The video looked badly timed given the push in Washington to crack down on TikTok over national security concerns. Last month, President Biden signed a bipartisan bill that would force its Beijing-based parent ByteDance to sell within a year or face a total US ban.

None of the executives who participated in the video were compensated, according to TikTok.

Critics noted that the firms doubled down on TikTok even as US-based platforms — including traditional news outlets and Elon Musk-owned X — face a revenue crunch from lost advertising revenue.

“At a time where ad execs are falling over themselves to pull their contracts from social media platforms like X it seems rather hypocritical that they’re jumping at the opportunity to strengthen ties to TikTok,” said Nathan Leamer, a former FCC policy adviser and CEO of Fixed Gear Strategies.

“Specifically with a ticking shot clock on the app’s forced divestiture, why would any marketing professional be so oblivious as to lean into the data concerns or manipulation of the app’s algorithm?” Leamer added.

Representatives for the media firms did not immediately return requests for comment.

When asked to comment on criticism of the ad executives’ participation in the video, a TikTok spokesperson declined to weigh in.

“Surely, we cannot be talking about the same video,” the TikTok spokesperson said in a statement.

Production on the video took place before, during and after Congress moved to pass the divestiture bill and participants were aware of when the video was set to be published, the company added — leaving some media insiders wondering what the ad execs were thinking.

“Normally something like this would get zero attention… there’s nothing unusual about a media executive extolling the virtues of a particular platform,” one media executive told The Post. “However, with the political background, it is not the right time for this.”

Critics of TikTok have warned that the app could be used as a spying and information weapon for the Chinese Communist Party – potentially fueling everything from election interference to pro-terrorist propaganda and a teen mental health crisis.

TikTok has repeatedly denied wrongdoing and touted its efforts to build a safe and secure platform for American users. The app has also tried to rally the public to oppose the sale-or-ban bill by touting its sizable American user base and its impact on the US economy – the same points that were emphasized in the LinkedIn video.

In March, TikTok published an economic impact study from Oxford Economics that said the app had “contributed $24.2 billion to the US economy in 2023” through its collaborations with small and medium-sized businesses.

TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew has argued that the legislation would “take billions of dollars out of the pockets of creators in small businesses” and “put more than 300,000 American jobs at risk” if it takes effect.

The company has vowed to fight the legislation in court.

As of Monday afternoon, the video had garnered 400 reactions since it was posted. The “TikTok For Business” LinkedIn account has nearly 275,000 followers.

The video was another sign that TikTok “is leveraging US companies to advance the interests of the Chinese Communist Party,” according to Michael Sobolik, senior fellow at the American Foreign Policy Council.

“That’s the crux of Beijing’s malign influence within America: using American voices to weaken American democracy,” Sobolik said. “That’s what TikTok is: a CCP weapon of disinformation to divide US voters and political groups.”

“American media firms should think twice before playing the CCP’s insidious game,” Sobolik added. “It may help boost sales today, but it could irreparably damage America tomorrow.”

Embattled ABC News president Kim Godwin stepped down after she was caught “badmouthing” her new boss — the “last straw” in a “confluence” of bad decisions that included the bungled firing of weatherman Rob Marciano last week, The Post has learned.

Godwin — the first black person to lead a major network news division — resigned Sunday to end a chaotic three-year tenure marked by a slew of public missteps that led corporate overlord Disney to bring in veteran executive Debra OConnell in February.

“She was badmouthing Debra. It was the last straw,” an ABC source told The Post on Monday.

The elevation of OConnell was effectively a demotion for Godwin, who was still given a three-year extension by Disney CEO Bob Iger.

Disney is scheduled to report its earnings on Tuesday, and Iger did not want to get bogged down in questions about Godwin, another source close to the situation told The Post.

Her sudden exit followed a blistering report last Friday by the news outlet Puck that claimed Godwin was trashing OConnell to “an associate” over a recent dinner in New York.

A day earlier, CNN reported that Godwin was “in hot water” and “under a leadership review” by OConnell, who was said to be astonished by Godwin’s mismanagement of a division that includes top-rated shows “Good Morning America” and “World News Tonight.

“They decided to pull the trigger on her Friday night,” the second source said. “They negotiated a settlement.”

Financial terms of her three-year deal or her payout were not made public.

ABC News declined to comment. Godwin did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

The source told The Post that a “confluence” of events that included the Marciano saga and negative feedback from fellow black employees about their boss played a role in Disney sharpening the ax.

“Debra already knew about Kim was trashing her,” the source said, adding that what upset top brass was learning that nobody in the building supported Godwin.

The source cited Puck’s report, which included interviews with black journalists at the network who were worried that Godwin would “use the race issue to insulate herself from criticism or frame the narrative around her seemingly inevitable departure.”

“Race in the workplace is so nuanced that it can be easily weaponized by all sides and bad actors of any race,” a black ABC News veteran told the outlet.

“Disney fell into the trap of the soft bigotry of low expectations and appointed someone everyone knows is unqualified to do the job… Now [they] are worried that firing the first black woman would be an act of racism, when she is simply bad at her job.”

The National Association of Black Journalists came out with a full-throated defense of Godwin on Saturday. The organization claimed Godwin’s supporters inside the network had been silenced.

“Those supporters have told NABJ that they see the attacks, perpetrated through media reports, as ‘racially motivated’ or in reaction to her not being in what some in the industry call the ‘good old boy network’ of players,” the organization wrote in its press release.

A source with knowledge said the press release rankled top brass, who expedited the date of Godwin’s exit.

Godwin also allegedly said in several staff meetings that “black people don’t watch the news,” and complained that in the wake of George Floyd’s murder at the hands of cops, news networks had “overcompensated for a lack of diversity in the leadership ranks.”

“It’s quite the opposite,” the second source told The Post. “It shows a fundamental lack of knowledge in the audience and that’s troubling.”

“On the bright side, the long national nightmare is over.”

Employees are now bracing for more restructuring after Godwin’s departure, with one source adding “the worst of it is yet to come.”

As previously reported by The Post, some sources are pointing at the former president’s top lieutenants, Jose Andino, the vice president of the office of the president & process management, executive editor and senior vice president Stacia Deshishku and executive vice president Derek Medina.

“As we talk about the decline of news, watching these three for the past three years is like watching ‘The Lion King’ and the three hyenas picking up the carcass of Mufasa,” a source said of the three lieutenants.

“Mediocrity hides in the shadows of ambiguity and in this case, it not only hides, it thrives in the ABC News C-suite,” the source added.

In recent days, the source said, Godwin’s bad decision-making returned to haunt her. Marciano, a former “Good Morning America” weatherman, was ousted amid alleged anger issues.

A year earlier, Marciano was “banned” from “GMA’s” set after he allegedly made a colleague feel uncomfortable. Instead of firing Marciano then, Godwin moved him to “World News Tonight” and had him send in reports to “GMA,” a move that prolonged the problem, sources said.

The move was reminiscent of Godwin’s mishandling of the relationship between “GMA3” hosts TJ Holmes and Amy Robach, who were allowed to remain on the air even after news of their romance became public.

OConnell has also reportedly been shocked that Godwin has failed to replace the network’s head of talent, Galen Gordon, more than a year after she had fired him. She also was not happy to see ABC News lose its Washington bureau chief, Jonathan Greenberger, to Politico just months before a historic presidential election.

Independent presidential hopeful Robert F. Kennedy Jr. landed a celebrity endorsement Monday from embattled Kevin Spacey — who hailed the independent candidate as a “loyal friend.”

Spacey, 64, is facing fresh allegations of sexual misconduct from multiple men in the upcoming documentary “Spacey Unmasked,” which drops Tuesday.

Spacey made the endorsement while reposting a video cut by Kennedy’s campaign of the candidate reading dismissive and derisive headlines of himself.

The two-part British documentary, “Spacey Unmasked” will feature the accounts of 10 men, nine of whom purportedly have not publicly told their stories before.

None of those men were connected to the trial that took place in a British court last summer during which the Oscar-winning actor was ultimately found not guilty.

Those 10 individuals’ stories span multiple decades and involve alleged interactions that occurred in London, New York, and Los Angeles.

Some of those incidents allegedly occurred at parties and on the set of “House of Cards,” the hit Netflix show that made Spacey even more prominent in the political world.

Spacey has directly denied those allegations.

“I’ve got nothing left to hide,” Spacey told former British journalist Dan Wootton during a lengthy interview last week.

“I take full responsibility for my past behavior and my actions, but I cannot and will not take responsibility or apologize to anyone who’s made up stuff about me or exaggerated stories about me.”

In addition to his legal victory before a London jury last year, charges were dropped against Spacey in an assault and battery case out of Nantucket and he prevailed in a $40 million sexual misconduct lawsuit back in 2022.

Spacey publicly condemned the UK’s Channel 4, for the upcoming documentary, arguing he wasn’t given sufficient time to rebut the accusations against him.

“I will not sit back and be attacked by a dying network’s one-sided ‘documentary’ about me in their desperate attempt for ratings. There’s a proper channel to handle allegations against me and it’s not Channel 4,” he posted on X.

“Each time I have been given the time and a proper forum to defend myself, the allegations have failed under scrutiny and I have been exonerated.”

Spacey has admitted to what he characterized as consensual relationships and flirting with younger men but denied illegal activity.

A Florida congressman apologized Monday for invoking an insensitive stereotype in a joke aimed at Republican South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem and North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un.

“Why am I getting the feeling that she wanted to eat dog with Kim Jong Un?” Democratic Rep. Jared Moskowitz wrote on X in response to a clip of Noem promoting her upcoming book on “CBS Mornings.”

Noem’s book includes a false claim about a meeting with the North Korean leader and a true anecdote about her killing her “untrainable” 14-month-old hunting dog.

Moskowitz was called out by Politico reporter Nicholas Wu, who noted the Florida Democrat was “using a stereotype here about Asians and dogs.”

“I made a joke about 2 specific people. No one else,” Moskowitz wrote in response to Wu’s tweet.”However, I would never want to be insensitive and feed into a stereotype.”

The congressman also deleted the X post.

“I took the post down as I didn’t want it to be misconstrued and offend the broader community,” Moskowitz told Politico. “I condemn those stereotypes and would never want to feed into them.”

The House of Representatives’ only two Korean American Democrats thanked Moskowitz for deleting the tweet and apologizing.

“While we appreciate our colleague standing up to GOP extremism, we cannot perpetuate harmful stereotypes in the process,” Reps. Andy Kim (D-N.J.) and Marilyn Strickland (D-Wash.) said in a statement. “We thank Rep. Moskowitz for apologizing and taking down his tweet.”

In March, the congressman posted — and then deleted — an image on X of President Biden, wide-eyed upon encountering Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) as he prepared to deliver his State of the Union address, alongside a photo of “Euphoria” star Sydney Sweeney in a revealing outfit.

The juxtaposition of the photos made it appear as if Biden, 81, was staring at Sweeney’s cleavage.

Hochul, speaking at an on-stage forum in California Monday, stuck her foot in her mouth while trying to explain how she wants to create a diverse workforce in new areas like artificial intelligence.

“Right now we have, you know, young black kids growing up in the Bronx who don’t even know what the word ‘computer’ is,” Gov. Kathy Hochul blabbered into a microphone Monday.

“They don’t know, they don’t know these things. And I want the world opened up to all of them,” she continued.

“Our children are bright, brilliant, extremely capable, and more than deserving of any opportunities that are extended to other kids,” Reyes added.

“Our children, far from being underestimated, are the epitome of brilliance, resilience, and untapped potential,” Assemblyman John Zaccaro (D-Bronx) wrote in a statement.

“They are not only capable but deserving of every opportunity that their counterparts are offered. It’s disheartening to witness such a portrayal that undermines their abilities and aspirations,” he continued.

One Bronx pol coming to Hochul’s defense was Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie (D-Bronx) who called her words “inartful and hurtful.”

“While the Governor’s words were inartful and hurtful, I don’t believe that is where her heart is. I firmly believe she wants to see all of our students excel,” Heastie said.

“Working with Governor Hochul, I hope we can redouble our efforts to bring greater access to technology to our kids in the Bronx. All our students deserve an equal chance to grow and thrive,” he added.

Hochul made the remarks at the Milken Institute Global Conference Monday where she was primarily discussing her $400 million Empire AI initiative that recently passed as part of the state budget.

“I misspoke and I regret it,” Hochul later told the Post in a statement. “Of course Black children in the Bronx know what computers are — the problem is that they too often lack access to the technology needed to get on track to high-paying jobs in emerging industries like AI. That’s why I’ve been focused on increasing economic opportunity since Day One of my Administration.”

The governor touts the broad partnership between universities and the state as a way to build New York’s tech sector and keep colleges competitive as industries develop.

A spokesperson for Hochul didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

A career criminal was arrested Sunday after he allegedly slugged a woman in a Brooklyn subway car in a random attack — but was back on the streets the next day thanks to New York’s lax bail laws.

Michael Crosland, 68, was hit with multiple charges after he allegedly launched an assault on a 39-year-old woman aboard a Q train at the Stillwell Avenue station around 7:30 a.m., according to police and a criminal complaint.

The suspect allegedly punched the victim multiple times in the right shoulder and kicked her several times in the stomach, the complaint states.

Following the attack, the maniac set some papers on fire inside the subway car before igniting a blaze in a platform trash can, the complaint states.

The victim told The Post she was on the way to the gym when the brute came out of nowhere and screamed, “Hey, get the f–k out.”

But she and another woman on the train were unsure if he was just joking.

“After a couple times, he said, ‘Get the f–k out of here,’ we thought he was just trying to play around, you know? So we ignored him,” the victim, who wanted to remain anonymous, said.

“And then he started throwing kicks. Yeah, he was kicking me in the belly. He was throwing kicks and punches. Like three kicks, four kicks, and I’m looking at the lady like, Hey, this is serious, you know? He’s not playing.”

“She got scared and she said, ‘This guy’s possessed,’ you know?” recalled the victim, who credits a heavy jacket she had on from leading to injury.

The suspect was charged with third-degree assault, third-degree attempted assault, two counts of attempted arson and two counts of disorderly conduct – all misdemeanors.

Crosland, who has at least another 25 arrests under his belt, was cut loose during his arraignment in Brooklyn court Monday and given supervised release because none of the charges were bail eligible, sources told The Post.

The victim, of Brighton Beach, said she’ll likely forgo the train at the Stillwell station going forward because of the chance she’ll cross paths with Crosland, who lives in Coney Island.

“There’s a possibility he’s gonna remember me,” said the victim, who moved to the Big Apple two years ago from Oklahoma.

“If he went to prison, it would probably be a good favor for him,” she said, adding that the suspect encouraged straphangers to call the cops and didn’t resist arrest. “I think that he wants to go to jail also.”

Most of Crosland’s prior arrests date back decades and mostly involve drugs, sources said.

His most recent past arrest was in August 2009 for unauthorized use of a vehicle. He was also busted for assault in Brooklyn in 1999, according to sources.

A House education committee investigating antisemitism on college campuses will hear testimony from Northwestern and Rutgers University presidents on May 23 — with the panel’s chair citing “gravely concerning actions” that have enabled anti-Israel demonstrators.

The House Education and Workforce Committee announced the hearing would address “Stopping Antisemitic College Chaos” with Northwestern President Michael Schill, Rutgers President Jonathan Holloway and University of California, Los Angeles Chancellor Gene Block.

Block had previously been invited as a panel witness alongside Yale University President Peter Salovey and University of Michigan President Santa Ono.

“Yale and Michigan are by no means off the hook,” she added. “Presidents Salovey and Ono will be required to appear before the Committee for transcribed interviews at a later date or risk deposition and subpoena.”

The university north of Chicago caved last week to demands from anti-Israel protestors who erected a tent city on campus — one of dozens nationwide calling for their schools to divest from Israel.

Schill conceded that Northwestern will now give full-ride scholarships to five Palestinian students per year and faculty posts for Palestinian academics.

Protestors have been seen wearing clothing bearing the image of a Hamas terrorist — and displayed signs with their president, who is Jewish, shown with devil horns and blood and saying, “I [love] genocide.”

On Friday, three Northwestern students filed a lawsuit alleging that their school had failed to protect Jewish students, National Review reported.

An orthodox Jewish professor of music at Rutgers also told Holloway and university chancellor Francine Conway in a Saturday letter that she was leaving as they have allowed antisemitism to run rampant “from the classroom … to the highest offices at the university.”

“Throughout this year, I have found it difficult to breathe. I have lost my taste for my job; the joy that I used to feel in working at Rutgers has disappeared,” wrote Rebecca Cypess, who has accepted a job as dean at Yeshiva University.

She told the administrators that “all I do is confront antisemitism,” as demonstrators have been observed shouting “Hitler would have loved you” at Jewish students and calling for an intifada.

The face of Jewish freshman Rivka Schafer was also featured on a poster urging students to vote “yes” on divesting their school from Israel — which Schafer decried as an act of “unabated antisemitism” in an exclusive interview with The Post.

California Highway Patrol officers raided an anti-Israel tent encampment at UCLA last Thursday, firing smoke bombs and rubber balls as they clashed with the protesters.

At least 132 of them were arrested.

A Morning Consult poll last week showed that 76% of Americans support law enforcement cracking down on the encampments — and nearly half want to ban campus “pro-Palestinian demonstrations” entirely.

Hamas has endorsed the protests for being able to “refute the Zionist narrative” — more than half a year after its terrorists invaded Israel and killed 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and 33 Americans.

The House Education Committee previously questioned Columbia University President Minouche Shafik, who cowered when asked about antisemitic slogans being used by protestors and admitted to going easy on faculty members who back Hamas.

The testimony has led to a House-wide crackdown on antisemitism in higher education spearheaded by Speaker Mike Johnson.

Johnson (R-La.) told The Post in an interview last weekend that Republicans would not stand on the sidelines and allow “evil” to continue.

“I think we need accountability from top to bottom,” he said. “The idea that some of these professors would be involved in this is outrageous, and I think they need to be called to account and of course the students as well.”

An aspiring doctor shoved into a Louisiana lake by friends who claimed to not know he couldn’t swim has made a remarkable recovery — and now his family is planning a legal action over the near-fatal incident, The Post has learned.

Christopher Gilbert is talking to his family and eating again less than a month after doctors described him as practically “brain dead” and put him on life support machines, according to family attorney Claudia Payne.

The 26-year-old has since been taken off life support, but is still recuperating physically and working on memory loss problems, Payne told The Post.

Gilbert spent about ten straight minutes underwater after a friend allegedly pushed him off a dock at a Farmerville restaurant on April 14 — with the group of friends bafflingly failing to pull him from the lake as he was submerged.

He might have died had it not been for the heroics of Dawson Foust, a 20-something restaurant patron not connected to the group who dove into the water to make a rescue.

Glibert’s family is now planning a civil suit against that restaurant, alleging it failed to properly restrict access to the lake despite serving alcohol.

The restaurant, identified in reports as Rhett’s Tails and Shells, declined to comment when reached by The Post.

His family is also seeking an arrest of the woman who allegedly pushed Gilbert — and thinks cops are letting the friends slide because they are all white and Chris is black.

“Had Chris, a black male, pushed a white female into a lake, he would be arrested,” Payne said, adding that the family doesn’t want any outsized persecution of the woman, but just for the letter of the law to be followed accordingly.

“I’ve defended alleged criminals with less evidence that they’ve made arrests on,” Payne said.

Farmerville Police declined to comment on the case, citing the ongoing investigation into the incident.

Exactly what happened the day Gilbert ended up in the water remains unclear. Initially, Gilbert’s friends told his mother Yolanda George that her son had fallen in — before allegedly switching up their story and admitting to pushing him during “horseplay.”

The friends also allegedly insisted they had no idea Gilbert couldn’t swim — which the family doesn’t buy.

“Everybody knows Chris can’t swim,” his mother told KSLA. “He’s always joking about it.”

Heart-pounding footage shows the moment highly trained NYPD detectives climbed over a glass wall to rescue a distraught woman on the edge of a 54-story rooftop in Manhattan last week.

The dramatic rescue of the 33-year-old woman took place last Wednesday at a Midtown building on East 29th Street.

When members of NYPD’s emergency service unit (ESU) responded, they were initially separated from the woman by a glass divider, forcing police to undergo a rope operation to reach the victim, bodycam footage shows.

The ESU team received a call around 3:10 p.m. about a woman who appeared to be ready to jump from the ledge of the 54-floor building, police said.

The video posted online by the NYPD shows at least two ESU members holding onto the woman’s left arm through a slight opening of the seven-foot high barriers.

The footage then cuts to an officer tethered to a rope jumping over the glass wall to join another ESU member who was already assisting the woman on the ledge.

The two ESU detectives then hoisted the woman above the glass wall while police waited on the other side to grab onto her, the footage shows. One of the rescuers reassured her, “You’re OK.”

The woman was taken to Bellevue Hospital, authorities said.

“When the public needs help, they call the police,” the NYPD said in its social media post. “When the police need help, they call ESU.”

“Thrift Shop” rapper Macklemore has declared that he’s not voting for President Biden in the 2024 general election because of the commander-in-chief’s support for Israel’s war against Hamas.

“The blood is on your hands, Biden, we can see it all,” the 40-year-old raps in “Hind’s Hall,” a song released on Monday by the Seattle rapper.

“And f— no, I’m not voting for you in the fall,” Macklemore, whose real name is Benjamin Hammond Haggerty, continues.

In the song, released on the Grammy-Award winning rapper’s Instagram account, Macklemore expresses his strong support for the anti-Israel protesters that have disrupted numerous college and university campuses across the country for the last several weeks.

The song’s title is a reference to Columbia University’s Hamilton Hall, the building that a mob of masked protesters broke into and occupied until they were forcibly removed and arrested by NYPD officers.

The demonstrators dubbed the building “Hind’s Hall” – in honor of Hind Rajab, a 6-year-old Palestinian girl who was killed in the Middle Eastern conflict – when they took over the structure, after previously camping out in front of the Ivy League school for almost two weeks in protest of Israel.

Clips of several other politicians, including Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky,), Rep. Jim Banks (R-Ind.), Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Westchester County Executive George Latimer, who is running against far-left “Squad” Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) in New York’s 16th District Democratic primary, are used in the music video for “Hind’s Hall.”

Numerous supporters of the anti-Israel protests were pleasantly surprised by Macklemore’s new song.

“This is very powerful. Thank you for creating this,” Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein wrote on X.

“Never been into Macklemore’s music until today! Free Palestine,” one person tweeted.

“Sucks it had to be Macklemore to say it but i’m glad that someone is,” another individual posted.

“Crisis among Biden staffers when they learn they’ve lost Macklemore,” an X user joked.

However, not all were impressed with the tune.

“Congratulations, Macklemore read a Reddit page and said, I can make a song out of every single buzz word. Also not voting for Biden. Great call. Go back to the thrift store,” read one snarky tweet.

“I wish Macklemore had thrown some jabs at Hamas,” another person opined, noting that there are no references to the terror group responsible for the Oct. 7 attack on Israel in the song.

“Supporting terrorism through rap,” another disappointed listener chimed in.

Macklemore indicated that all proceeds from the song will go toward the United Nations Relief and Works Agency, or UNRWA, once it’s up on streaming platforms.

UNRWA has faced allegations that 12 of its employees participated in the Oct. 7 Hamas terror attack on Israel — with some kidnapping and killing Israelis – and that roughly 1,200 of its employees have ties to Hamas or Palestinian Islamic Jihad in the Gaza Strip.

The shocking claims, first reported by the Wall Street Journal, citing an Israeli intelligence dossier, prompted an internal UN investigation and donor countries, including the US, to temporarily pause funding.

Macklemore’s Biden diss track also comes as the president has faced protest votes in several states over his handling of the conflict in Gaza.

In the battleground state of Michigan, 100,000 uncommitted ballots were cast in the state’s Democratic primary in March.

In Minnesota, nearly 19% of Democratic primary voters casted uncommitted ballots, for a total of more than 45,900.

In Wisconsin, more than 48,000 “uninstructed” ballots were cast in the state’s Democratic presidential primary, also in protest of Biden’s response to the Middle Eastern conflict.
