Charles is beyond pathetic.
His whole persona and self crafted image is taking the high road, but that doesn't work when you play footsie like you see in this tweet.
Charles used to go on spiels about circumcision and Edward Bernays. Really? Is that where the real hatred should be placed, the real issues? The problem with Charles (and his fans, obviously) is his low IQ limits his level of understanding of… anything. He was always playing along awkwardly with Sam. And when the moment for free association came, where you're left with no research or outside influence and you have to plumb whatever is lurking around your subconscious on-the-spot, Charles always floundered like a dumb, dead-eyed fish on land trying to figure out what was happening. When it came to spontaneous, he could only give the most surface level stuff (Circumcision, Edward Bernays lol) because that's the glass ceiling of his intellect.
There are cringe elements among MDE and the fan base, but once you see it you can only stand above it. You're playing on their level when you use them, and typically it's not even them that you have issue with. In the case of Chuck it's his scorned, regretful ex-Sensei dynamic going on. Chuck never got the Jewish issue or any of the other issues. He is literally too dumb to hate. He can only hate a vague father figure (Sam) who couldn't protect him or provide for him the way it was supposed to pan out with the whole MDE [AS] budding celebrities.
Charles was never on board because he is mentally incapable of being on board. If anything this is an indictment on Sam just as much for keeping him around. You could see Sam's awkwardness whenever Chuck went free-style, free-association, like a dad watching his child with the training wheels off, knowing full well the kid is about to crash and eat shit but you still want to see them learn to ride.
Charles spent months concocting a persona of beneficent detachment. It is all dishonest. Spite is understandable, anyone of that age has ex-friends you really hate. But to be so two faced about it, to claim "I will never talk about it again after this" time and time again and then take feminine Sniper shots, ankel biting for years after the fact. Charles is not only shallow, not only a disappointment, but he is petty. Fuck the guy honestly.

This resonates with what I see. You have to take responsibility for your life, even the results of your associations. If Charls feels that Sam screwed him over, he needs to talk about it and move on rather than letting it stick around. Maybe he saw indications that Sam was a shithead but he stuck around him because he thought he could become famous. That's naive, and I don't feel like Charls has admitted to himself such possibilities. You can tell the relationship between Sam and Nick isn't all hunky dorey but Nick is able to forgive and move on with his life because he's more of a man. I still like Charls though.
