being a web dev my guess is their server stopped hosting, so they had to make their own server or something but they dont have enough to support images so they just made it so you can't host images until you're in the thread/image itself by requesting it from the user. the user is probably proxy host therefore you must join 8chan and give it users or donate or you will see 404. something like that
