In the future I would clarify this point. I assumed you were saying the paywall was tied to the game, and not shitty ISP practices in general. I looked it up and saw a bunch of articles talking about how using a torrent and a VPN can circumvent throttling. In that regard I understand why you would torrent something even if it's free. However I think that begs the question as to how you would play online without triggering your ISP? Does using a VPN get around that as well?

Reassess your risk vs reward parameters. A company is not going to load up, or allow one to load up, malware into their downloads. It would be a massive PR nightmare.
I'll explain PoE since neither of you can do any research:
