I was wondering about the spin of the spirals formed when water goes down drains. If the water spirals in one direction going down in the northern hemisphere and the other direction in the southern hemisphere ,then what happens in between when its about equally far between the poles?

I was reading stories about unusual rainfalls. Sometimes it rains down strange substances and animals;
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rain_of_animals
I wonder what those animals were doing up there and if any of them survive the fall.

A lot of what they talk about in movies that you may think is make believe fantasy
is actually true or has some truth to it. Those things also provide inspiration to
innovators so they might be more likely to make tech previously only found in sci-fi.

A flux capacitor can be either a magnetic flux storing device or an electrical capacitor which is enhanced with magnetic flux to contain more charge

And now you know why the sky is blue;

Its because the atmosphere has just enough
opacity to split the light into different colors.

I know its just movies but they'd already gone back in time and changed things for the better before they went to the future in the back to the future movies.
Which might have changed things so they had flying cars and hoverboards in that future. Maybe they wouldn't have had that in 2015
if the past hadn't been changed first. Just like how by giving the younger Biff a future almanac drastically changed things.
Its stuff like that which most people don't think about.

Do you think that the future of everyday transport will be in the air? I know a common theme in many science fiction is flying cars, but do you think that one day that's how people will actually commute?

Good to see that /hover/ is back.
I know before that you said I could just post pictures of things like helicopters, I actually think helicopters are pretty interesting, but they're not very practical. You can't really have one at home to use everyday.
I think it would be cool to have a really small one that you could easily keep at home and not have it barred by a bunch of legislation.

That depends where you live
There are almost no roads in Greenland so they use helicopters instead sometimes
Maybe things will also change in the future so that people wont be as tied down by rules and legislation

Ever been to Greenland?
Honestly, I don't think things are be going to get better anytime soon over here in regards to rules and regulation. Even so, it would be pretty impractical for me at least, I mean I don't even have much use for a car, let alone a helicopter.
I think stuff like flying platforms are good in condensing it all in a neat package, but they never really seemed all that safe to me. I'm also horribly afraid of heights

No but I've seen a lot of things about it
Maybe air cushion hovercraft might be more your thing then, I've seen some vids of people making them with vaccum cleaners, blow dryers and leaf blowers
It might be fun to make one sometime since they seem to be easy to make.

Fair enough.
Yeah, I've heard that they're not too difficult to make, but from what I remember in Top Gear with hovercrafts, they didn't end up working all that well. Then again those 3 always did manage to screw everything up.
I'm off for now, talk to you later.

Okay
You might also like quadcopters or other small remote controlled craft. Those can be used inside if they're small. Air cushion hovercraft are great because they can work on land and water, but not so great when its windy or very hilly as they can be difficult to control and tend to slide away
Here are some links to build RC ones;

Maybe quadcopters would be interesting, they're fairly small so they wouldn't take up all that much space, and it would always be a good idea to try and expand my electronics experience.
Just out of curiosity, how durable are the cusions of hovercrafts when going over things, they won't get torn or anything?

That just depends on the material used to make them
The skirt can be made of polypropylene which is used in construction bags that can carry heavy rocks without tearing

At some point crop circles and cattle mutilations were associated with aliens and ufo's. The crops circles because of the way in which the crop stalks were unnaturally bent and the large intricate patterns in the crops. The cattle mutilations because of the way the cattle were found, marked with an unknown substance which glowed under blacklight and the efficiency of operation, near which no footprints were found.

Apparently those boards had a type of lenticular covering for the background surfaces or that's how they were supposed to be, replicas and stunt boards more often only had printed images without the lenticular effect.

Those are called surface mount parts, they don't have pins that go through they board and just get soldered (like glued) on top of it
In recent years we've been seeing more embedded components, which become a part of the circuit board (as in embedded inside it), but those are more difficult to get at for repairs, might be more practical for disposable circuits
