Same here. My grandfather was an alcoholic, I have an uncle who used to be an alcoholic and another one that still is, and my brother is an alcoholic. I wouldn't want to risk becoming an alcoholic myself, aside from that I prefer to keep a clear head at all times.

Yup. That's why I don't want to risk it. What's more is that it isn't just my father's side or my mother's side of the family, it's both. So if I started drinking I would almost certainly fall into the same pattern.

Same here, family has quite a few alcoholics that can't function without liquor and I really don't want to what to add to that count. That and I never felt the need to drink and I can't stand the taste. Same with drugs, I never felt the need to do them.

I used to smoke a ton of weed before I became a hikki. It was the only reason why I suffered a minimum wage full time job for a year. It was my main source of escapism and on my off days it's all I would do. Woke up, smoked, spent all day holed up in my room while continuing to smoke all day long until I went to sleep. Eventually I started to get panic attacks no matter how little I smoked and that's when I stopped.
Nowadays all I do is drink once in a while on "sepcial" occasions or when I think I deserve a reward or something sometimes still for escapism .
I'm actually quite drunk today while playing Overlord and occasionally checking on threads here and on /v/. Today is a good day.
Point I'm trying to make is that it's fine in moderation (duh), but I sympathize if it's something you'd want to avoid entirely due to family members being alcoholics.

Agreed. As I said in another post above, I prefer to keep a clear head. Even when life gets bleak and I get depressed, I'd rather weather the storm consciously. Although it hasn't really helped me get ahead in life, I still feel like I'm just a little bit stronger for it.
Also, to anyone in this thread who does use drugs or alcohol, I don't mean to put you down in any way. I can fully understand why someone would want to have a drink every now and again to make life a little more bearable. It just isn't something I've ever wanted to dabble with, personally.

It honestly seems like the only escape from being a NEET is drinking and or smoking.
I can't even say it's the Neetdom since I drank even more and smoked heaps of weed when I had a job.

I smoke black and milds, those long cigarillos? Usually you see ghetto trash smoking them? Yeah, I've come to enjoy them. They burn long and the deep takes make me feel numb for a bit.
I can't smoke weed since I have no money, which sucks.
You're right about the drinking. I should stop, but it's the only thing that keeps me happy sometimes. I don't wanna get fat though.

Very unhealthy, to replace a bad habit/addiction…fill the space with a good habit/addiction. Anything that won't kill you before your time. Do you know that humans can live to be 120 years old and not be sick it they do it right? Some Monks have lived to almost 150 years, amazing.

I will. Thank you for telling me what I had to hear. I stopped smoking cigarettes. I started smoking weed instead, but one step at a time, I guess. I've also stopped drinking.

Because it's the only one you have, if you don't take care of your body now
you will suffer when you get old.
I've smoked all of that stuff including opium, tobacco is poison and not good,
cannabis and the poppy are medicine, that is the difference. Very small amounts
of alcohol won't hurt you but most people can't stop until it harms their life. I
still smoke my medicine when necessary for health there is nothing wrong with
that. I can cure almost anything with the right combination of herbs.

i wish i could drink. i used to drink really heavily from 20-22. it was some of the most fun i had in my life, being drunk. i loved it. my mom and dad have both had problems with drinking but i never drank so much that it fucked up my daily life.
but it's just not possible anymore. the hangovers are too much. if i try to drink like i used to, for two solid days i am completely incapacitated. not only do i experience overwhelming physical pain and discomfort but there is this emotional devastation that comes with it. like all of the regrets and mistakes boil up to the surface and scream at me internally. i can't shake the feeling, like my life has been a complete waste and all my ambition and hope for the future is eradicated. that is the anxiety, which is agitated and restless, making my heart pound and my thoughts race uncontrollably. but there is also the 'depressive' side of the hangover, which is just unmitigated sadness. not pessimism, or anxiety or worry, just sadness.
i have no idea how people bear it. whenever i see videos of people guzzling down booze i immediately think 'ah well, they must be younger, the hangover has not entered their life yet.' but if they are older i am totally baffled. how can people tolerate it?

Whenever I drink, I make sure I drink a lot of water with it as well. That way I rarely ever get a hangover, and when I do it's mild.
I'm talking out of my ass here, but I always viewed being hung over as being very dehydrated. a quick search in my preferred search engine partially confirmed this, but there's a bit more to it than that.

It also depends on the quality of what you're drinking. Generally speaking, cheaper booze contains more contaminants that aren't healthy, which produces a headache.
It's worth spending some time trying yourself through what's available to see which brand of the cheap stuff is the least shit.
