It's not nearly as bad as it sounds. Lots of enlightening details.

This actually clears up a lot of things, and it explains the persistent vitriol that's been coming from these IRCfags and revoltards. It was all about you from the very beginning of this board's inception, not the purge or your moderation practices.
Chances are, they don't give two fucks about your moderation practices so much as the fact that you own the main GG imageboard instead of them.
They've probably been thinking about forming a competitor board like revolt for while after /gghq/ was formed, but they didn't do it until they had a chance of getting users to switch over (which they attempted when you did the purge). I wouldn't be surprised if the shitposting prior to the purge was their attempt to market revolt to the anti-moderation crowd once you finally cracked down on them.
This is coming from a guy who supports the idea of boycotting devs who caves into SJWs and alter their own games as such–These revoltards tried to appeal to us by allowing for boycotting discussions, only to lure us into a board that does nothing but bitch about this place. Glad I didn't make the switch.
Ultimately, this just reaffirms the fact that you shouldn't be giving these imbeciles even an ounce of your attention. They're just petty assholes that want control of this board.
Now here's an even bigger question: What is it about Gamergate that drew in these guys to begin with?
You could assume they're trolls, which to an extent, they can be, but the way they operate seems needlessly complicated to be a practical troll OP. Some say they themselves are SJWs, but I'm doubtful: If they're SJWs, why would they spend countless hours on streams and IRC chat rooms talking about how they politically disagree with SJWs?
If the IRCfags have deeper personal motivations, that might explain it: They (or at least a majority) are probably driven more by IRL politics than by video games.
How many of these guys have been drawn into GG as a result of hearing it on a chan site, as opposed to hearing it from Youtubers who talk nothing but politics (like Internet Aristocrat or King of Pol)? How many of these guys have been exposed to the chan sites for the first time as a result of GG?
I used to keep up with many of their streams before Zan became a prick. I'm sure you know they like to go off-topic A LOT: How often have you seen these guys spend their time on these streams talking about non-gaming issues like "cultural marxism", political bias in non-gaming media, or liberal/SJW influence in universities? How many of them believed S4T's Common Core crap?
I can even recall on one GG stream where Zan spent 30-40 minutes bitching about how the Wall Street bankers/CEOs fucked up the economy in 2009. Holy fuck, he sounded like an emo douche that day.
I think that if the IRCfags controlled all outlets of GG, they could push some kind of extreme-libertarian sociopolitical narrative that's anti-SJW/media beyond just video games or games media. If this is the case, then seeing a veteran from /v/ as the BO for the main GG board would definitely cause a lot of butthurt, because they know he'll likely care more about video games instead of politics.
Even though /pol/ is our ally, I think we as GG could've done a better job of keeping a degree of separation between vidya and RL politics. It's one thing when SJWs or game media tries to push politics into our games, it's a different matter when we gamers try to expand into politics ourselves. We'd just attract opportunistic assholes that couldn't give a shit about games if they had the choice.

Not quite. I'm pretty well convinced by both the evidence and various conversations that they started all this with good intentions.
Their idea to push a boycott didn't rely on the boycott actually having an effect on sales. Rather they wanted to use it to take credit for sales slumps that were already going to happen, like the Black Friday dip in sales last year that resulted from the Gamers Are Dead articles. They wanted to push it to give #GG credit for it as a way to make us bigger and get the dev communities to notice us. Not a bad idea, but one that was presented poorly at the time IMO. Had I known that was what the goal really was, I would have backed the boycott idea personally. Opposition chiefly comes from the idea that we don't have the numbers to actually damage a game's sales, so boycotting sets us up for failure and gives aGG ammo - but in this specific context it probably would have worked.
"#GG Illuminati" is just a meme. To most of them. An in-joke that got started because they were a little club of guys who owned so much of #GGs infrastructure. The problem is that several of them, at various times, have tried to take the meme into reality.

Up until January or so, the two sides generally worked in parallel without knowing about eachother. The IRC guys forgot all about /v/ as 8chan's hidden headquarters, and /v/ forgot all about the IRC guys, calling #Luminati a tinfoil meme from KoP.
When GGHQ came along, the two got put at odds because the IRC guys were used to no moderation and being able to shill their ideas on the board as anons, and because it was /v/s influence that stepped on their dick and made this board successful when /gg/ was originally at the top. To quote one /v/eteran when GGHQ came out on top: "Did they forget we were here?"
Since then its been a cycle of butthurt with the leaderfags at the top wanting to get rid of this board, /v/, and me so things could go back to the way they liked it before. Everything since has spiralled out from that. A lot of them are just there to meme and shitpost and don't take the #Luminati shit seriously (i.e. "Triangleposting"), but the handful that do are the problem.

The IRCfags' lack of experience with chan boards is telling. On the other hand though, I have still some serious doubts about the IRCfags' intentions since the previous two board owners who fucked up their respective GG boards were both closely associated with them. Even if you do back down like they want you to, what have they done to reassure anyone that whatever BO they want to put into power won't destroy the board like the previous ones did? Despite the fact that Niko and Blade really made a lot of anons distrustful towards BOs sabotaging their own boards, the IRCfags are still essentially demanding that the BO come from their group and not anywhere else, even though the previous two that were associated with them had fucked everything up?

That's a pretty good description, actually.
When half/v/ first migrated here, we had a big debate on whether we should use /v/ for GG discussion or to make a dedicated board. In the end we decided to do both. A dedicated and public board to serve as an info dumping ground and honeypot for shills and trolls (hence /v/'s old habit of calling the /gg/ board /honeypot/), and a megathread on /v/ where the real work would happen, tucked away safely beyond the bump limit and out of sight. GGHQ was different. When I made it my intent was to try and keep the shills and trolls at bay so the board could come into its own, and also to mend the rift that 7 months of divide-and-conquer had placed between /pol/ and the rest of #GG. I wasn't going to let the board be a honeypot any more, but a proper #GG hub for all the anons here.
Because the threads were small and tight-knit we had a retarded fast reaction time to HAPPENINGs, and clerics from /v/ used to post on the /gg/ board, /pol/, Twitter, and KiA to keep people coordinated. We were the think-tank, the go-betweens, the couriers, and the messenger boys for the rest of #GamerGate until SkyNet came along. Before I started doing ad updates in January, that part of /v/ was my primary job. You'll probably remember my giant walls of redtext explaining #OP ideas appearing on the board every so often back then.
Many of the ones involved on the IRC side came from either /pol/, /b/, or both. Zan, notably, is an anti-censorship /pol/ack according to some info. That's part of why this board's style put such a burr up his ass. Anything that isn't /b/-style unlimited free speech might as well be Karl Marx's personal board to him. Between that and banning him several times, its little wonder he hates me.

Ayytism is the reason. The IRC guys were just as susceptible to burning out as the rest of us. Blade was the owner of /gamergate/, with Drybones, _Arcon and possibly Thidran himself as moderators. Over time Blade came to resent the strain that #GG put on him, and he started to hate his own board. Meanwhile he had buddied up to Ayyteam and decided to do something "fun" by leaving and torching the place on the way out. He did this without the permission of Drybones and the others, but it was already too late.

Some do and some don't. This is where you have to be careful - not everyone in their group is part of the… whatever you want to call it. The little mini-cabal at the top trying to call the shots that was originally made by Baconfromhell and Thidran. Just like us they've had people come and go, burnout and quit, new people come in, owners of things change hands, etc.
John Kelly, Thidran, and Zan are the ones who most staunchly think they have to be the ones in control. Drybones to an extent also. A lot of the others don't seem to think they could do any better than we've done and don't have a dog in the fight. s8tan is notable for this.
The problem is really that they're just like us. They have an infrastructure like a formal organization, but nobody has any control over anybody else. One faggot can go on a doxing spree, but he dindu nuffin because he's a chill guy in the chats. This is compounded by their habit of inviting in anyone prominent who can keep their mouth shut about the group - "just to hang out." Full disclosure, I was once offered an invitation and declined it, citing my promise to the board. Their rationale for taking over is the same as revolts, and not by coincidence. GGHQ lost a bunch of users, and that's the only proof they need.

/v/ didn't know. Fuck, I didn't know. These guys love using Triangleposting to laugh the whole thing off as a meme, and after they burned KoP with it, nobody took any claims about the IRC groups seriously. We just ignored them, and it took the vocaroos being leaked to get people really digging into it for the first time. Yes, apart from the supportive anons here, I've been dealing with it alone up until now.

I just want to point out that there's a lot of GG people on the Rizon network, and many of them have nothing to do with the autism of a certain few. I am an image board user first and foremost, but I idle on #burgersandfries and various other channels just so I can keep tabs on things actively happening and perhaps get involved in the next hot writing project.
Please don't turn using IRC into some sort of boogeyman. IRC is a great tool for organizing certain projects, the "dossier" of last year being a prime example.

S8tan is a troll and by his own words in a few of the circlejerk streams, wanted to make friends with groups like gayyteam, speaking of them as a collective himself, and not wanting to expose their sabotage attempts. So I am not surprised that he would sugarcoat and rewrite history.
Sad though, since S8tan is capable of being rational and making good points, due to a lesser abundance of aspergers than the other burnouts in that chat, but with this point, its obvious he is merely trying to troll, and ignore history.
I also remember the boycott spamming. I was all for boycotts until I recognized that S8tan had only gotten the idea from a disingenuous person that he himself claimed was part of "ayyteam" and that they were not really serious about the boycotting issue, they were just purely using it as a hotbutton to cause divisiveness over, and S8tan either didn't
realize at the time or was also in on the fraud.
Either way, it was made quite clear in one of the pastebins posted about these burnouts that they would attempt to "play their cards" right and use anything they can to cause divisiveness here. That they were merely flooding the board with the same exact boycott topics, bumping off operation topics, and then merely using them as trojans to push "rulecuckery" accusations whenever the excess copy topics were deleted, made them all too obvious.
I distinctly remember their topics consisting of of some of the dumbest reasons too. Like the Obsidian boycott they kept spamming and wanting us to do. They wanted to rally a boycott around Obsidian because of the game Pillars of Eternity, not due to corruption, not due to nickel and diming, not due to any gameplay issues, but because one stupid poem was removed, that was only put in there because of a backer and later removed due to an agreement to do so from the same backer and having an optional mod for it instead.
Practically a non issue despite some tranny hambeast crying about it.
Its like these spergs were trying to create drama, then we had similar clone topics like some retard reposting a topic to boycott the likes of some mobile Final Fantasy game, Final Fantasy Mevius, because the faggy protagonist's clothes were made less revealing, despite no proof of SJWs demanding he be less revealing(as if they care about dudes having revealing skin, let alone looking like effeminate fuckboys anyway).

Thidran either apparently thinks he can just pretend some of us have not been paying attention, or that he can just act like he knows more than he lets on.
I don't know why Thidran also thinks the possibility of an anti-GG being a part of some meta group like the fools who identified as gayyteam, would be at all enlightening. Ayytism didn't exactly love GG either, and played both sides so finding "pros" or antis among them is nothing groundbreaking.
