No.11547
The structural weaknesses inherent in a centralized discussion board like 8kun have already been seen. There is a stronger alternative up and running already: Aether.
* distributed not centralized
* engineered to resist censorship
* supportive of Free Expression
* AGPL licence / Free Software
* Users can impeach and replace mods
* Ephemeral (posts disappear after 6 months unless archived)
* can't be blocked by DNS (uses client)
* Has been active years
Investigate Aether for yourselves, verify it is a strong platform for communication, post something funny, report back to the community:

Anything that requires you to make an account or download special software is gay. The ideal is a decentralized version of 8kun.

If you want pretty looking and modern GUIs, there isn't really an alternative to porting webdesign to the desktop. Especially on GNU/Linux, GTK and Qt is just not there yet.
>function of looks
Doesn't matter among normies, if it's nice it has a better chance at overshining alternatives. If it's popular, the network effect takes place.

Is downloading the only option to use it? How about a web app?

pic related. There's no commitment to free speech here. Whatever technical merits the project has will be strangled by future development.

You know, not all software has to have updates all the time right? Those with sufficient stability need not be updated in years.
