I used to have such tendencies in my teens, I remember trying to learn walking digitigrade and didn't wash my hair or buy new clothes because it was "against nature" and only made by with the bare minimum to not attract vitriol from society. It's escapist behavior - your life is being driven in a bad way by something beyond your control (overbearing parents and school bullies in my case), so you create an inner world where you're free from your troubles and can "be anything". Surely your stance toward legit furry kids isn't the same. As an adult person that struggles with the inherent infantilism of the furry fandom, I've ultimately concluded that I should worry less about myself so much and to rather cherish my inner child by indulging in it (which I haven't yet, but I'm optimistic about it). Thoughts like this legitimately helped me fight my depression more than any pill or therapy session I took.

That representation naturally only extends primarily on the Internet, but the Internet is basically synonymous with home, for me. The term goes, "Home is where the heart is," and for me that can be anywhere as long as I have a personal computing device, an Internet connection, and a little bit of privacy or autonomy. However, I've met a lot of furries for whom fursonas aren't such a deep spiritual connection for them, but rather an escape, or a tool for sexual gratification, or simply something aesthetically pleasing. I don't consider these people any less furries, but they're often the type that will have several OCs, and one may primarily represent themselves but they don't fully identify with it. It's just a cool character (to them) in a cool scene. I don't disparage them for this, as it certainly takes a lot of introspective soul searching to identify with something so inhuman and know why that is, and from there dig out all the superficial parts of it - and for all of us, we have superficial mannerisms that often is better to embrace than cut out, so it's a whole lot of who actually cares outside of the self.
As a note about cheetahs, they're actually classified as the same group as housecats. I think they're the largest of that classification but there are a couple of other decently sized cats - which is why they don't have that ambush instinct you talk about. However, they are still somewhat solitary, and particularly are very anxious and struggle to bond with others.
For the violence aspect that you touch on, I think most people, for practicality, just wave it away as something that gets "humanized" out of anthropomorphising their characters. Even though humans are still violent, we aren't actively in a pred/prey kind of society that would exist in a beastman world. For the record, I love settings that properly touch on it, and I highly recommend the comic Beastars if you want to see more of it, but it's too distracting as a theme when I just want to be a cute magical wah tbh.

I think I'm a little bit confused about this violence thing. You're approaching this considering us as humanity? I think it comes down to connotations. We as a society have a general agreement to avoid violence as much as possible (which leads towards glorifying what cases of it are acceptable) because many issues can be solved without violence - but a lot of when violence is justified doesn't connotate as violent behavior, like anything self-defensive to protect a family is often seen as reasonable means.
I think mostly we are in a bit of a weird spot as to what our society holds as common values, given that we're still only a hop away from when black people were slaves and Jewish people were turned into pizza. We've got a great history of violence and while we try to preach non-violence, we've not yet moved far from violence so it's still around. I don't really care either way, though, and honestly I don't see much of that cultural indoctrination you're talking about. While there's some non-violence preaching, there's also a lot of glorification of violence. It's just something where people as a mass are contradictory about, like sex positive vs sex negative.

What's the stereotype that you're even really thinking of? Within the fetishized part of the furry fandom, the stereotypes of each animal are way wild, and can basically be summarized as "extreme slut if a popular artist drew a lot of them bottoming, huge power-top otherwise".
If you want to make your fursona mean a little bit more to you than just for sexualization and aesthetic, then you can get into animal spiritualism, which is still pretty generic and vague like horoscopes. Bears, for example, are very one-size-fits-all as an animal totem, being a symbol of strength and upcoming change and strife.
Personally, I think the appeal of aesthetic is a strong enough draw to base your character on, and it's okay to refine upon it going forward as you find more what it should mean to you. I also think the main way to make a poor choice of a fursona is to jump on a bandwagon for meme purposes (sergals, protogens, etc). When the meme dies you're fursona won't represent you as well as you thought it once did.
It's only as complicated as you want it to be, to be honest.

That's sort of what I meant about stereotypes. Those all exist within a vacuum contained largely within the fetishistic side of the furry fandom, which imo also coincides with the side you want to interact with the least. Dogs, for example, are symbolically more about loyalty and protection, and wolves about family and trust. The stereotypes only really exist in the context that you want to see them in, and if you want your choice in species to mean something seeing them in a context of a fetish is not going to produce anything satisfactory because there's more to you as a person than, for example, being an introverted girly trap cat.
I can also see a little bit of bias, by the way, but don't worry - birds are a great choice. I think dragons are a bit overdone but they're a strong creature and appealing for many reasons, so it's understandable.

Wolves are a lot more about family bonds and loyalty to blood, but coyotes symbolize, simplified a bit, finding optimism amidst the negativity. (a lot of tones of seeing the humor in life, and finding the means to survive and adapt to what life delivers). Wolves are symbolically hard-up on that blood bond, but coyotes more represent a 'wise fool,' in a sense - which is something you can extrapolate into that starterpack, where they come off as foolish for those stereotypes but can still deliver good life advice, even if it comes off as bad advice at first.
Personally I think they're far better off than hyenas in the current state of fadsonas.

I did a quick sketch of my Fursona. I'm, well, I think a Rat would suit my personality, sexual preference, and generally what I am.
I actually tried to go with actual Rat/Mouse anatomy that is actually humanoid, rather than slap large rounded ears and say "ITS A RAT CAUSE I SAY SO" . And yes, that's why it plays a 3 stringed thing cause anything with claws and bigger than 3ft tall would probably destroy the strings or vise versa
