I think OP has a problem with his personal dogmas. You see, there's a difference between the personal gain of "Doing stuff to satiate your ego's attention span" and the personal gain of finding self-actualization/enlightenment.

It's like the whole problem of sin being used as something to fear, hate and destroy, rather than being a mistake to learn from.

This. It's said that God already knows our needs and will provide them without having to ask. I'm not wealthy. I could ask Clauneck for money, but that's black magic and I'd feel as if the money was cursed. My way has me trying to get rid of excess material possessions in preparation for more of a digital nomad retirement. The less you have, the less you have to worry about. I will pray for others though, those who may lack the spirituality needed to make a powerful prayer. By helping others with my prayers or if I'm able to channel God's love, it's a good work and may bring me blessings. I do tend to be what many would consider a "very lucky" guy. I may have plenty of wants, but I have everything that I need. That's how I operate. Less sense pleasures and material "stuff" is how I am trying to separate my ego and reach a higher level of self actualization.

A local hospital has a volunteer program called "No One Dies Alone" that would allow me to sit with dying patients. I think it would be a good place for me to practice my skills. By learning various religions, I'll be able to converse with a wider variety of people in a way that understands their view of God. By learning how to vibrate my aums accordingly, while silently praying, humming, meditating with these patients, I hope that I can ease some of their fears or alleviate some pain at the time of their death. It'll be interesting to see how it turns out and I believe it will give me tremendous spiritual growth… and maybe it'll help someone else out too. The point being, by helping others, I make myself stronger.

The plan is to download the pure tones into my mp3 player and label them by their uses. If someone has death bed guilt, or needs love, healing, or they're frightened of dying, I can select the appropriate tone and aum/hum softly in meditation with them as they die. With enough practice, I may learn the proper tones by heart without the use of a mp3 player and ear buds. The same way a trained singer knows the tonal scale.
