Hey /film/, Anyone in the same spot here?

>be 23 year old me

>Bussiness Developpment Manager at family owned consulting firm

>Good pay, get to boss around customers and be a lazy cunt

>boost the company's revenue

>father is ecstatic, wants to give me the commands in 10 years

>don't want to be shitty industrial managment consultant

>father gets GOAT idea and offers to pay more studies

>always pais studies on my own

>insists and wants me to chose, hoping for industrial managment shit

>gonna go for Ecole de la Cite Cinema et Television instead

Opinions /film/,do i let a bright future slip away and spend my last days in a ragged apartment just to do what i want or follow father's will and forget my selfish dream?

My honest opinion:

If you have even the slightest interest in a real career, study for it, and do the film thing at your leisure. Your quality of life will be much better.

You want to go here?

> Contact with the film industry and professionals is constant thanks to the school's location at the heart of the Cité du Cinéma.

The networking aspect is more beneficial than the studies IMO if you want work in this field. What specific job do you want: editing, directing, writing?

> The courses are free of charge. No academic qualifications are necessary for admission. The purpose? Giving talents from all horizons a chance to express themselves to ensure the diversity of movie output tomorrow

That is surprising. So what would your expenses be: rent, a camera, other supplies? You should buy a camera anyway.

I tend to agree with >>7687 in that you shouldn't discard a stable career, even if it's a little boring. But if your career would be to work for your father, maybe the job will always be there as a backup plan? If you have always lived in the same place it's good to move away for a while.

Going for directing and screenwriting

anons over from /tv/ gave me great advice about how to plan the next 5 to 10 years

http://8ch.net/tv/res/433390.html#q433390

a double degree is the best choice IMO now

\dude seriously, take over your family business. you clearly don't understand how lucky you are to have such an opportunity.

try to be honest with yourself. you are 23 - you don't know what you're doing, trust in the wisdom of your father for now. if you still want to make films ten years from now, you will have access to such resources as will allow you to do so, not to mention an invaluable skill set that will allow you to easily gather more resources if needed.

you don't have any reason to listen to a bunch of words on the internet, but a good relationship with your father and the monetary and social skills that would come from taking that position will be more valuable than anything you could learn in art school

to say more, people have said in here that the networking aspect of film school is the most important part. this is true, i'd say.

if you are a business man, film people will WANT to know you because maybe you'll fund their project, or get them involved in a big budget project, etc. you'd likely meet more skilled and important people this way than at film school (the main kind of person you meet there is other beginners just things to consider, if you haven't already. remember you have a long life ahead of you

Thanks beautiful anon, guess that seeing it more as business and less as art is the way to go.

I learned that networking is the key to all business and might that road to achieve my goals

Thanks again friend-o

I mean, don't just make a decision from what I said. make sure you carefully consider both options and try to see how each would pan out over the years compared with what your desires in life are. I'm just giving you some food for thought, it's what I would do. give yourself a lot of time to mull it over

I like what one person said in that /tv/ thread

> Few things annoy me more than movies where there is a father depicted as an asshole because he's providing his son with a way while the son wants to be a flaky artist dreamer.

This trope might make a good story but I agree it's unrealistic - poor life advice. I'd rather see people with different occupational backgrounds making films. If everyone is a starving bohemian artist you'll see the same sort of ideas over and over.

Do not pursue film unless your dads spielberg. Go buy a camera, teach yourself to write and network with other people in your city. If you can make enough noise with a low budget approach, you'll get noticed a la Shane Carruth.

Unless this is something you just have to get out of your system and if that's the case, maybe your dad will hire you back in five years when you're broke and haven't done anything.

I am very interested in ethical situations in specific conditions. It could be a school or university or a business model. I recently read a cool text https://paperap.com/paper-on-enron-the-smartest-guys-in-the-room/ which has a lot of options for the development of events. A business partnership is a series of disputes and compromises. I think that controversy gives rise to truth and this is a fact. This is reminiscent of the old meetings of enterprise shareholders who argue about the allocation of investments. A person has a choice, and we empathize with this choice, but we always represent our interests. Students studying marketing or business are required to read this text.
