Now that Britannia has finally shown some backbone, how about suggestions of lesser known UK gems to remind everyone that British culture has been pretty damn cool

maybe this isn't "lesser known" but I had a lot of fun watching it

it's probably better than My Fair Lady (based on the same story)

I haven't watched a lot of UK films from the 1930s so I'd like other recommendations

Some really 'lesser known' ones off the top of my head:

-A Cottage on Dartmoor (The best British silent film - Absolute must see)

-The Living Dead at Manchester Morgue

-The System

-I'll Never Forget What's'isname

More well known:

-The Abominable Dr. Phibes

-Theatre of Blood

-Peeping Tom

-Night of the Demon

-Brief Encounter

-All 'Ealing Comedies' - especially Passport to Pimlico

-School For Scoundrels

-The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner

-Billy Liar

-Saturday Night, Sunday Morning

-The Devils

-The Ipcress File

-Blow Up

-Kill List

Nice list. I didn't know about that silent film.

Passport to Pimlico reminded me of Genevieve, made by the same director but outside of Ealing

It's a charming technicolor comedy about racing antique cars

Which other Ealing pictures do you like? Passport to Pimlico was quite charming. The style of comedy was different than I expected. Instead of getting laughs from sight gags or endless punchlines, the comedy came from characters who were suddenly in a funny situation.

Also the line about "We've always been English..." was fantastic.
