ITT: Low-rated films you actually like. Based on the IMDB rating or some other aggregate measure.
Why do you like them, and why do you think the masses hate them? And how low can you go ratings-wise?
Hilariously bad movies like The Room or Troll 2 don't really count since most people watch them ironically.

The Loss of Sexual Innocence - IMDB 5.4/10, RT 47%
Perhaps people were turned off by the odd structure or the degree of nudity. I like Mike Figgis' experiments with form (like Timecode). This one plays out like a dream at times, with perfectly chosen piano pieces by Chopin and Schumman fading in and out.

Dr. Goldfoot and the Girl Bombs - IMDB 3.9/10, RT 0% (based on 2 reviews)
Humor is subjective and I found this quite funny. I watched it as part of my Mario Bava completism and was pleasantly surprised.
I think people rate this poorly because they may have watched a different movie. The English version focuses on 60s heartthrob Fabian … yawn. The Italian version Le spie vengono dal semifreddo is the way to go, with mostly different scenes featuring couple of wacky Italian comedians hamming it.

Equilibrium-IMDB 7.6, RT 38%
The fact that The Matrix went down in history as the definitive cyber-punk dystopian future action sci-fi movie while Equilibrium got swept under the rug makes me want to rip my dick off.
Better cast, better plot, better setting, better dialogue, better action sequences, no bullshit sequels.

Child of God - IMDB: 5.5/10 RT: 38%
As a Cormac McCarthy fan, I quite enjoyed this adaptation. I thought that it captured the bleakness and sheer depravity of the book rather well. I heard a lot of people say that it didn't represent the book very well but I didn't see theri point. Scott Haze also does a killer job That pun was totally intended playing the books main character.
I think a lot of people got turned off to it due to the sheer freakieness of the film. The violence is a bit gratuitous and the "sex" scenes are not pleasant.

Only God Forgives; IMDb 5.8/10, RT 40%
I study the Bible very thoroughly, and I have to say that this is one of my favorite allegorical films; Very Old-Testament-like. The acting is wonderful and the cinematography and lighting is beautiful.
A lot of people seem to have an issue with the glaring lack of dialogue in the film, but I'd say it really doesn't need any more than what's already there. The story is told very visually, even if the visual elements move slowly as well.

Very good character study and beautiful cinematography. I don't understand why this movie wasn't praised by critics.

>>3219I wholeheartedly agree on Only God Forgives. I think most of the critics who bashed it were captive of the cynical, narrow-minded dialectics from which they tend to approach cinema. Actually, it is one of the few films released recently that has a dream-like quality, full of nuances and connotations of underlying primal forces, brillianty depicted.
Another Refn work that is underappreciated is Valhalla Rising, which is (I think) his only masterpiece so far.

Pussycat, Pussycat I Love You - Imdb 4.7, RT unlisted
A "zany" comedy I watched because I was interested in 60s/70s movies. I don't remember much but I did have a fun time it.
I think it's low rated because it's a sequel to What's New Pussycat?, which must be a lot better. So most people had different expectations for it. I haven't seen the first one and didn't even know this was a sequel.

Rhodes of Africa (1936)
I don't visit imdb ever since they killed their forums, but I see from archive.org this rates 5.7. No rating on other sites.
I believe this film loses points for painting a complimentary picture of a colonialist who's since fallen into ill repute. There's a 1996 miniseries about Cecil Rhodes which rates 8.1—it would be instructive to analyze the differences. I still enjoyed this one because I didn't know the history of British and Dutch colonies in South Africa.
The cast is strong, led by the always entertaining Walter Huston. However my favorite character was not Rhodes but President Paul Kruger of Transvaal (aka the Boers). The real Paul Kruger was quite a character too—a man who believed the earth was flat in the Current Year of 1890. In the film, Kruger just wanted to smoke tobacco and read Scriptures while looking out over his bucolic farmland. His tranquility is shattered by Rhodes who crashes onto his property with talk of northward expansion and progress and profit. Kruger wants no part of it. Undeterred, Rhodes charges ahead toward the land which became Rhodesia.
The film's action sequences felt like typical Hollywood fare. In fact I didn't pay attention to the opening credits so I thought it was a US production (despite the staunchly pro-British perspective).
I think Rhodes of Africa would make a good prequel to Zulu, as it outlines the relative positions of the British and the Boers. All in all it's no worse than a random John Ford film.

Is this Barry Levinson's best film? I think it is. And honestly one of Robin Williams' best also.

The Bling Ring and Noah are pure кино. Both for too many reasons to type out. But the former is great satire and the latter is one of the only good and accurate biblical films, its batshit and should be.
