In my Marketing class today, the professor showed an outdoorsy Northface ad and observed their customers buy their jackets more for fashion than functionality.
This student responded that he wears the jackets to look great around campus and "Northface is the Gucci of outdoors apparel" to which several students emphatically agreed.
Everyone here wears Northface jackets & backpacks, too, and maybe that's why in addition to campus hivemind.
