I can't believe I haven't seen a thread on this already. In July, researchers in Sierra Leone discovered a new strain of Ebola. They have named her Bombali Ebola. She travels by bat, so bush meat buyers beware! It is unknown yet if she is able to infect humans, but with a little encouragement I'm sure we can get her to try her best!

Attached is the research publication associated with the discovery.

Good Luck Bombali-tan, you can do this!

I wouldn't really say it's a new sister, since it is still a strain of Ebola. What's interesting though, is that it was discovered the same day as that eclipse. Our goddess has a plan.

I was wondering what the canon is regarding the family? Should different species of virus within the same genus be considered sisters? If that's the case then Ebola is one of quintuplets and Marburg has a twin sister.

The Virus Girls (later VirusPop) canon is that Marburg, Ebby, and Lloviu are all sisters, the same as Dread's characterization. This doesn't rule out other sisters, they just aren't featured in our stories.

I suppose I was wrong to term it a sister with these things in mind. What I had in mind was this picture here where the different forms of Ebola are called sisters as well. Not sure how we can get it all to jive, but I'd like it to.

I don't know. The way I see it is, each species of Ebola is another way for Ebola-chan to ennact her love in the world, With each species serving a specific function/purpose. I assume itd be the same for the other virus girls.
