Then you did something wrong. If there was eye opener period in my life then it must've been highschool/college time. After 1 year in this meatgrinder => complete drop to 0 in motivation, urge to participate in public matters, negative attitude towards pseudo-achievements such as degree, good job, owning some shit, saving money. I literally just fucked around with friends in our practice room with other kids from different schools and even art and tech schools. What you had in your pockets, you spent it all that day. I have to admit we had problems though, especially when someone forgot to buy booze or some drugs even though he promised he will. Only reason why I got out of that crap was because I almost died once and after that I became huge pussy.
I don't understand how you can come to school and be like "jeez bruh I really want this degree and this way of life lmao". I've seen those people, parts of the machine, how they used every situation to climb on my back, their fake smiles and daily psychological pressure; and I got so depressed when I thought this will be rest of my life - working 9 to 5 in some shit job, for nothing, in best case scenario feeding kids which will hate me, fuck that, I wanted to off myself every day and that was my life since I was 15 until I learned that there is future without all this crap. On edge of society, very likely homeless and without any stability but it's better than this shit. Fortunately, so far I was the luckiest piece of shit walking on this planet.

I don't really care about degrees as such, I just want to actually contribute to society.
It appears that building a network involves being a socialite, which in this country is quite expensive, and I don't want the inflated lifestyle.
Many of my classmates at my previous college, had parents who always worked, so they didn't really know them that well.
I'd prefer subsistence to a workaholic lifestyle, but that's not really an option unless I get very creative.

I'm playing the long game here so I don't think your argument applies. First humans were isolated family groups barely capable of foraging for food. Then we realized we could accomplish more by forming tribes of many family groups and gathering/hunting food together. It was hard, and it took thousands of years for us to learn how to work better together but we did because it was more efficient and we could accomplish more. Then, those same tribes learned to federate into states for much the same reason. We are within a few centuries of modern states coalescing into a few or even one global government should the economy not completely collapse into pre-industrial conditions (which is a possibility.) Assuming the state exists then, it too will disintegrate one day as it is compatible with true liberty and humans can accomplish more in a state of liberty than in a state of oppression. For the same reasons evolution pushed us towards the state it will pull us away from it. The trend of history is very clear, black, white, yellow or whatever identity of oppression people cling to will vanish. I acknowledge cultural clash. Instead of taking a fatalistic approach to it and giving into the idea that we're different enough to warrant fighting one another for all eternity/living in paranoid isolationism (which isn't scientifically valid) I take a more realistic approach and work with the historical trend.

All the major media and tech corporations are controlled by an owning class of hyper rich individuals as are the vast majority of political offices.
